So happy to see this update! I went back and read the prior chapters to get caught up. I love this story!

So happy you are enjoying it!

I was happy to see this! So wow, things are getting grim -- but if anyone's equal to the task they are. I'm glad to see Radagast getting in on things -- Thranduil must have known him a lot better than any of the other Elves... Thanks for writing!

Author's reply

I wanted Radagast to seem a bit more useful than people generally give him credit for. Thanks for reading!

Stunning! I have been too long away, called by many concerns. But I have begged a little time. I will need to go back to read the chapters before this one. Tonight, however, this is enough. It tells me that I am in for a rousing read. It's good to be back.

Author's reply

Thank you! It's great to have you back!

I have really liked this series ... You've really brought Thranduil out as a sympathetic, interesting, believable character. Thanks so much for the time you put into this...

Author's reply

Thank you! It's been a personal twelve-year epic for me. (Really? Wow, just did the math.) I'm always so happy when other people can enjoy it.

I loved it!! Though I hoped Lin would live it is still gr8! Poor Thranduil!

Anonymous · 9 June 2014 · Chapter 20: Hopeless Courage II

I was super excited to see this update. I have read each chapter of this series and I can just *feel* how Thranduil has grown from a youth of Doriath to the stubborn King of Lasgalen determined to defend his people or die trying. I have to admire him and his determination to persevere despite the odds against them. This ellon has survived kinslayings, marching across Beleriand in the dead of winter without any provisions, The Last Alliance, the death of his father and wife...I found the line where you talked about all of that preparing him for this moment very touching...it is so true! I can not wait for more! I am also enjoying THe Red Winter! Thank you for continuing!

I have been looking forward greatly to this update and I have read your story a couple of Times entirely the last year. A fantastic take on Thranduils family and the Elven king is very human in many ways with a good heart and not flawless. I love your Thranduil and his Queen and legolas. I especially enjoyed the chapters in Ost en edil. Gwaelas is my second favourite besides the king. Such a good friend with a quiet strenght that is healthy for Thranduil .I can see all Whats happening in front of me as I read. One of my best fanfiction ever truly.:)

Author's reply

Thank you! I hope to have time to update more often. :)

Zardi · 18 May 2014 · Chapter 20: Hopeless Courage II

Oh my gosh, an update!!! You have no idea how thrilled I was to see this. (Or maybe you do know, since I pestered you a few times.) This chapter led to several revelations for me, first and foremost being that Tolkien really missed some fantastic opportunities with the character of Thranduil. The bits Tolkien did give us are fascinating enough on their own, but he inexplicably neglected Greenwood and its people in favor of telling us more about the Noldor. His missed opportunity is our gain, and you have taken full advantage of it. I have also finally realized that Elrond and Galadriel can't help Thranduil, even if they wanted to, because the rings have made them weak and I think they know it. Any strength left to the elves lies with Thranduil and his people. Thank you for making me love them all the more.

Author's reply

I know, right? I treasure every little canon reference to Thranduil, few and far between as they are. Thanks for reading! I probably never would have gotten through this chapter without some prodding. :)

Zardi · 17 May 2014 · Chapter 18: The Darkest Night III

I can't figure out how to respond to your response, so I'll leave one here. I am thrilled to learn that you are working on the next chapter! I hope your muse will stick with you now. I can't wait to see how Thranduil handles the council in Imladris. He will want to stick up for his people, which hopefully will force him somewhat out of his pit of grief. I also look forward to seeing him let Legolas back in. He at least already realizes that he has not been considering how Legolas must feel (not that anyone blames him much), but obviously they got interrupted by his trip to Imladris, so I look forward to seeing them together again. I came back to re-read this chapter because, despite how full of pain it is, there is also so much love amidst everything that I get the warm fuzzies from it. If there were a new chapter, though, I wouldn't have to re-read. *coughs gently*

Zardi · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 19: Hopeless Courage

Please, please get over your writer's block soon! This story is too masterful not to be finished. Lindoriel's passing was one of the most poignant scenes I have read in fanfiction. You made me feel Thranduil's emptiness and despair, and Legolas's loss not only of his mother, but also of his father's guidance. They need each other. Don't make them keep waiting ;)

Author's reply

Thanks to you, I've resurrected the next chapter! I actually wrote several paragraphs last night, which is sort of a record lately. Stay tuned; I'll try to work on it some more today. :)

Zardi · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 14: The Storm Breaks

This chapter almost left me breathless. I really, really hope she isn't going to die, that she will just have to sail for Valinor. Poor Thranduil. Rarely does fanfiction move me as much as this chapter has!

Zardi · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 6: The Golden Years III

I have read "I Return," and really wanted to know what had broken the engagement. It looks like I might be finding out soon. Poor Legolas. I am feeling bad for him already.

Zardi · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 5: The Golden Years II

Well, I'm sort of sad that you skipped Legolas' entire childhood in this story. Thranduil did so well with Amroth that I was looking forward to seeing him with little Legolas. Legolas does make a charming "teenager" though. :D

Author's reply

Yeah, sorry about that. The prospect just seemed exhausting. Maybe I'll supplement with little one-chapter scenes from Legolas' childhood. :)

after spending the past week reading these 3 stories...you had me in tears by the end of this chapter. so touching.

Agape4Gondor · 30 October 2012 · Chapter 18: The Darkest Night III

I have nothing to say. You've said it all. Great chapter, as always. Potent with grief. I am glad to see Thranduil coming to his senses. Poor Legolas.

Agape4Gondor · 30 October 2012 · Chapter 16: The Darkest Night

I hadn't seen that you updated. I've missed quite a few chapters. Glad I found this. Well, not really. Such a tragic, heart-breaking chapter. I'm at the library cause I lost power at home due to Sandy. I'm sitting here fighting tears. Beautifully written.

Author's reply

Thanks so much. :) I hope your power comes back soon! It seems we were miraculously spared, despite being in the thick of the storm.

demeter d · 29 October 2012 · Chapter 19: Hopeless Courage

"He would never abandon them". Trust DUTY to be able to break into the grief and pull him back to where he was still needed. Sometime after this, when Elladan and Elrohir lose their mother, they lost themselves for a time in revengeful orc hunting. They were, after all, just Imladris's "princes", if you will, not its's primary ruler. Thranduil can not afford to do that. Although, cutting that orc to ribbons must have worked off at least a little frustration! I liked the moment between Thranduil and Celebrian. I think too many people forget that she was Celeborn's daughter, and as such gave to her children threads of several elven lines besides just their own father's Noldor. As such, Arwen was able to leave for her mortal children a heritage from many elven houses.

Author's reply

So glad you liked it. And thanks for reviewing! :)

aiholic · 12 September 2012 · Chapter 18: The Darkest Night III

Simply marvelous I love your characterization of Thranduil and his arrival for the conference will definitely be storm. Waiting in anticipation for the next chapter:D

Author's reply

Thanks! Sorry for the delay, but real life has been unusually demanding.

Aiwen · 22 April 2012 · Chapter 18: The Darkest Night III

I'm glad to see that you are still working on this. It is quite the epic story!

Author's reply

Thanks! For a while I was wondering if I hadn't bitten off a bit too much with this story. Pressing on . . .

Mereyom · 19 April 2012 · Chapter 18: The Darkest Night III

This is poignant. Your realistic description of Thranduil's emotions surely hints at personal knowledge. So sad for the elves that they have all eternity to live with their loss. I love your description of the men, such a sturdy race but such short, painful lives. Yet, the Woodmen must endure only a short time before they are reunited with their loved ones. I think the men have the better gift.

Author's reply

Sometimes I think so, too. I tried to describe everything I was feeling when our newborn son died in the hospital, so I'm glad it seemed to ring true. Thanks for reading and leaving lovely reviews!

mereyom · 17 April 2012 · Chapter 16: The Darkest Night

And the entire forest shudders at that cry of anguish! I knew it was coming, but Lin's death is so heart-rending. Maybe Radagast will have some skill to relieve th pain in Thranduil's heart.

Author's reply

Thanks. :) My husband is deployed, and I was thinking a lot about him when I wrote it.

Agape4Gondor · 7 April 2012 · Chapter 15: The Challenge

You just write the best chapters. It was great seeing Lin charge into the fray in the last chapter. But to see the cost of it. Poor Thranduil. I love the length of your chapters. They are chock full of stuff. I had not expected to see Mithrander (what a neat way to give him his name!) I had hoped he or Radagast could give Lin a few more years. Alas, it does not seem to be. A great story.

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm determined to (finally) have this finished before "The Hobbit" hits theaters, so full speed ahead. :)

CandissD · 6 April 2012 · Chapter 15: The Challenge

another great chapter! I loved the dialogue between Thranduil and Lindoriel, it is very moving. Also, very nice the way Mithrandir appears! :) can't wait to read more

Author's reply

Thanks! I know my husband has been waiting for Mithrandir to appear for quite some time. :)

Sunny · 22 March 2012 · Chapter 14: The Storm Breaks

Your stories are nicely plotted, but there are times when I find it hard to connect with your main character, though it is easy enough to connect with Thranduil here. Lindóriel's death was quite well managed - I had been slightly curious about how you were going to do that, once she had fulfilled her function.
