I am so glad that there is going to be more of this. I love Bilbo and Frodo together and I adore that dog! Also, it's a happy post quest for Frodo!

Author's reply

Thank you. I've been dying to expand on this idea, and hopefully I'll soon see where it's going. And oh yes, MY post-Quest Frodo will always be happy!

Eek, missed this one the first time around! I'm always interested to see other authors' perspective on this topic--and I haven't seen very many! Cool! Love the doggy. Already. I like gold-colored dogs LOL ~~~{~@

Author's reply

I love imagining Frodo with a dog (no big secret)! :D

Larner · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

How on earth did I miss this? What a wonderful gift for Frodo in his healing and to serve as a companion in his new life! And Bilbo now knows Frodo is well guarded as well as befriended.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner. Even from my first reading of the books in the late 1970's, I wondered if Frodo would ever find peace and healing. I'm just compelled to keep exploring this theme (from my own fluffy POV of course)! :D

Baggins Babe · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

*squeeeee!* A new Shirebound story! And what a story - how perfectly wonderful to see Frodo already healing. Mellon is certainly a bit larger than Scamp (!) but still as loving to Frodo. He has a real guardian in this delightful and loving hound. Can't wait for more!

Author's reply

Thank you, BB! I'm a little nervous because usually I know where a story is going before I start posting it -- but this one is just going to unfold "exactly as it means to". *sigh* I just can't seem to let the poor lad go anywhere without a dog, can I? :D

Gentle Hobbit · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

Ahhh. That's lovely. I'm looking forward to further stories of him with Mellon. I love how you describe that bond, and the feeling of safety and excitement that Frodo feels through, and with, the dog.

Author's reply

Safety is such an important issue! From the day Frodo inherited Bilbo's ring he was never truly 'safe' (which will be discussed a bit in chapter 2). I'm so glad you're enjoying this.

Antane · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

How good to see that he awakes in the West joyful! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I agree! *grins*

shirespirit · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

This is beautiful. I can't wait for more! “Bilbo?” “Yes?” “Don’t ever stop calling me that.” “I promise,” Bilbo said, wrapping his arm around Frodo’s shoulders. “My dear lad.” Loving it :D

Author's reply

Thank you, shirespirit. Frodo truly deserves a peaceful, joyous "second chance" at life.

harrowcat · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

Oh my! Oh wow! What a treat Shirebound. Frodo and his gentle giant of a dog. Wonderful and delighful reading. I can't wait for more!

Author's reply

Thank you for your enthusiasm! That means so much. :D

Andrea · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

“Everything will be fine now, my lad,” the old hobbit whispered in satisfaction. “You’re going to be all right.” Awwwwww! I read this in your LJ some time ago, and I loved it. A wonderful idea to use it as a starting point for a brand-new Shirebound Story ;-) "Mellon" is a suitable name for that dog (or hound?) and she showed that she liked it immediately. Now I'm looking forward to reading about more adventures of Frodo and his new friend :)

Author's reply

Thank you, Andrea. I'm not even sure where this story will go, I just knew I had to finally start posting! :D

Elwen · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

I can't think of anything else to say but, "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww".

Author's reply

Gentle healing peaceful sweet fluffyness! I just can't enough. :D

SurgicalSteel · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

Oh, so lovely and gentle. My favorite bit? Frodo begging his beloved uncle to 'never stop calling me 'my lad.'' Just gorgeous!

Author's reply

Thank you. I do adore it when Bilbo says "my boy" or "my dear lad". He spent most of his life living alone, with no one on which to lavish his love.

Queen Galadriel · 23 September 2006 · Chapter 1: In the Meadow

Oh, lovely! Yes, I know Mellon will be true to her name. How wonderful that Frodo has a hound of Orome for his friend, and I'll bet, protector if such should be needed. I can't wait to see more of this! God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Thank you, QG. I'm looking forward to seeing where this story wants to take us.
