Celeste Lucretia Black · 10 May 2021 · Chapter 2: The Barrow of the King
Oh, Merry... Wow, this was a wonderful chapter! There really should be more stories centered around Merry... Keep up the hard work!
Author's reply
Thank you for your comments! I'm delighted that you're enjoying this. "Guarding the Shire" and "A Matter of Time", two of my very early stories, also highlight Merry. :)
Celeste Lucretia Black · 10 May 2021 · Chapter 1: Written in the Heart
I love Sam! He's just so polite! Sometimes it's ever so amusing the way he adds Mr. to everyone in the fellowship. Why, Theoden? Why did he have to kill you? Why did you have to die? *Sobs*
Author's reply
I love Sam, as well. He's such a dear and humble hobbit.
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
Good story! :-) Thanks for writing, I enjoyed it!
Author's reply
Thank you so much. This story started out as a one-chapter fic, then somehow grew and grew.
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 7: The Sands of Time
I'm still trying to find out what 'the Mark' means. Heehee... :-)
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 5: The Sundering Seas
I can't imagine it, this separation. Too much to comprehend is very correct... Glad that Merry is feeling better. :-)
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 4: Clearing the Air
So, right. I'm trying to picture Arwen having a smoke ring blowing contest w Aragorn -- and you're totally right, it's just not happening... :-P I liked the conversation about Gimli and Legolas -- just everyday friends talking about everyday things.... 'Gimli's all excited about seeing some caves again, and Legolas doesn't want to go but can't get out of it...' :-)
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 2: The Barrow of the King
Uh oh...well, what's going on here? Poor Merry... :-(
Author's reply
Dear Merry will be comforted and healed soon enough. I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
PSW · 3 December 2015 · Chapter 1: Written in the Heart
'... and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king: the lord of a fell people.' Maybe my favorite line about Eomer in the books. Funny to compare their ages to the hobbits, who always seem young because of their innocence. But, I suppose Men grow up a bit faster than hobbits, too. Enjoying!
Author's reply
It was interesting to learn that Eomer was so young, at least through hobbit eyes.
Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
That was a lovely read. My reviews may seem repetitive, but I did indeed like this story. It touched me very much, and I like your title. It fits perfectly. Wonderful job!
Author's reply
Thank you so much! I'm very happy you enjoyed this. (If Faramir is your favorite, another story of mine you might like is "Reunion in Minas Tirith".)
Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 7: The Sands of Time
Ah, so Legolas was made to eat his words after all! ;) I really like the way your words flow, and how enjoyable it is to read this story. The Glittering Caves of Aglarond sound beautiful.
Author's reply
Thank you. How I wish we all could truly 'see' all these places for ourselves.
Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 6: Journeys of the Heart
Pippin's Standing Silence, a custom he had learned from Faramir (he did, didn't he?) was an especially nice touch, I think. I'm a Faramir nut, and I'm glad that you've kept him very in character. Preserving old customs would be just like him.
Author's reply
Indeed, Faramir's influence is far-reaching... even into the heart of a young hobbit.
Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 2: The Barrow of the King
Oh no... did the Witch King leave so heavy a mark on Merry? Once again, I love the dialogue. The hobbits are very in character-- you've managed to capture them perfectly. Merry's grief was also touching.
Author's reply
I greatly appreciate your kind words. I love writing dialogue, especially when it comes to hobbits.
Violin Ghost · 11 April 2007 · Chapter 1: Written in the Heart
Lovely. You write beautifully, and I like the dialogue between the hobbits and Eomer. The "ceremony" was very... meaningful too, and your description of Rohan breathtaking. And now, I shall go to the next chapter!
Author's reply
Thank you, Violin Ghost!
aprilkat · 8 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
I had to laugh at the Hobbits bequeathing the best of the Shire to those poor Rohirrim - their cuisine! Perfect. What a good way to end, everyone trying to tie up their loose ends, finding resonance with each other's experiences (Ring/Palantir addiction, the two noble Hobbit knights, "I had to ask one more time") - and then back to Bilbo, where it all began...
Author's reply
Thank you, Aprilkat. I do try to tie up loose ends whenever I can. Lucky Rohan, getting Shire recipes to help in their post-War healing!
julchen11 · 7 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
Oh sweetie, I can't believe the story is over *sigh* Happy Ending, I love happy endings. it's a wonderful story, my dear. Thank you for sharing, can't thank you enough. Lots of love and hobbity hugs Julchen
Author's reply
I agree about happy endings! I think 99% of my stories end happily. Thank you very much, dear Julchen. *lots of hugs for you*
AspenJules · 6 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
*sigh* I've kind of been putting off reading this last chapter... to make it last a litle longer. But I finally have a little uninterrupted time and read it. It's so good! I love the fond, slightly funny farewell. As dreamflower said, it was emotional without being maudlin. Favorite lines: “They really need them,” Frodo said firmly. “I don’t wish to disparage the cooks at Meduseld, but...” “And better dressed,” Pippin grinned, straightening Frodo’s velvet tunic. and finally The hobbits embraced him, then stepped back and bowed in unison. “None of that, you rascals,” the King chuckled. “Go on, now.” “We’ll miss you, Strider,” Sam said for all of them. “And I will miss you,” Aragorn said fervently. Oh... and just about every other line, lol. Wonderful. I'm just glad I have a new Quarantined story to look forward to... and talk over with you.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, I really appreciate seeing the lines you enjoyed. And I can't wait to see *you* in person! :D
Baggins Babe · 6 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
Drat! The story ends - it was such a lovely tale and I've enjoyed every word. *sigh* Parting from Aragorn must have been very difficult for the hobbits and is one reason why I like to write about them keeping in touch. Thank you for this, Shirebound. Another wonderful visit to Middle-earth.
Author's reply
Thsnk you, BB. How I love writing about our hobbits. And I always bounce with delight every time *you* gift us with another wonderful visit to Middle-earth! :D
Althea · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
I'm sorry to see this end. I enjoyed reading it very much.
Author's reply
Thank you, Althea. :D
Linda Hoyland · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
The Hobbits parting from ARagorn must have been very hard. When I first read the book,it was an edtion without the appendices to tell me that threeof them remain friends with Aragorn for always, This has been a most enjoyable story, thank you for all the pleasure you give !
Author's reply
I didn't know there had been any editions without the Appendices! They really enhance the story, and fill in so many gaps. I'm very happy you enjoyed this.
Larner · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
So--Rohan needs new recipes, does it? Interesting! And Frodo and Sam refuse any further honors heaped on them. Yes, typical of them, I'd think. And am so very glad Merry doesn't regret swearing his fealty to the Mark. Now, indeed, to go home. Lovely tae, Shirebound.
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner. Yes, it's time for our hobbits to finally head for home.
Bodkin · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
A hard parting. Not, perhaps, quite on the Arwen/Elrond level, but then they could all hope to meet again in the not too distant future. I'm sure the ... nutritional information ... will be of great benefit to the inhabitants of Edoras. And perhaps the hobbits have a duty to visit regularly to ensure that their teaching is reinforced. So sad that their time together is ended, though - and that they will never really be together again. Although there is hope. At the moment, anyway ...
Author's reply
There is always hope, especially in the imaginations of fanfic writers. Yes, the hobbits definitely felt duty-bound to impart all the ... nutritional information ... possible. :D
lbilover · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
I feel sad and glad at the same time. Frodo and Aragorn had to suspect that they would never see each other again. But the joy of returning to Rivendell to see Bilbo must have tempered the sorrow for Frodo. This was a beautiful story from start to finish. Thank you so much!
Author's reply
There's so much loss -- and so many goodbyes -- in the larger Tale, I'm just compelled to lighten the mood anywhere possible. Thank goodness for hobbits. I'm very happy you enjoyed this.
Grey Wonderer · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
That was lovley! I enjoyed all of it. The recipes were a very cute touch. I imagine that Hobbits have tons of great recipes. Thank you for a very enjoyable read!
Author's reply
I'm so happy you enjoyed this. Even in chapter 1 the hobbits were dismayed by the lack of (cook)books in Rohan, and they were just compelled to help out a little. :D
Pearl Took · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 8: Epilogue
A good ending, my dear friend! I don't know if I read the other two stories you mention - I'll have to check it out ;-)
Author's reply
Thank you, Pearl. It's always strange to write "The End"!
