OMG that is sooo sad I'm crying inside! I expected Merry, but not Pippin that was a very good story!

Pearl Took · 1 June 2007 · Chapter 4: Merry

*sigh* Beautiful. Thank you so much.

Author's reply

Thank YOU so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's sad, but at the same time lovely, I think. At least they weren't separated for very long.

Antane · 30 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Merry

Very good protrayal of their love for each other. Love the idea that Merry is Pippin's first memory and it was love at first sight for them both and that they died more or less together. Just as FrodoandSam were one, so were MerryandPippin. We should all be so lucky! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. My opinion is their bond is even stronger than Frodo and Sam's, but they ARE my favorite hobbits! Thanks once again!

Grey Wonderer · 25 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Merry

That was very well done. *sniff, sniff*

Author's reply

Thank you, GW! I almost left it complete where Merry took his last breath, "leaving Pippin alone and bereft". But I just couldn't end it there, it was too gut-wrenchingly sad. So I eased Pippin's pain by letting him pass on as well. Thanks for commenting!

elanor winterflowers · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Merry

A sweet consideration of the last day--Pippin did well, and bravely!

Author's reply

Thank you, Elanor! I can't imagine what Pippin was going through, it must have been very difficult. But he stuck it out, which is what friends do for each other.

Larner · 24 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Merry

I can't see these two long surviving one another any more than I can see Frodo and Sam doing the same. And they knew the joy of reunion at the last before Aragorn could join them. How joyfully they must have welcomed him....

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and commenting, Larner! I agree, I don't see Merry without Pippin or vice versa ... as unhealthy as that might be according to today's psycho-babble!

PIppinfan1988 · 14 May 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

Wow...I almost lost it when Merry knelt beside his bed and wept for Estella and his lonliness. Very heart-wrenching! Yes; Pippin and Merry are brothers of the heart, never to be parted, not even in death. How I love these two! PF

Author's reply

They are my two favorite hobbits :) Thank you for your comments .. I wrote this chapter first, actually. It kept poking at me until I wrote it down....and then the first two chapters were written afterwards. There may be more to come!

PIppinfan1988 · 14 May 2007 · Chapter 2: Saradoc

This is precisely why these two are best friends. :-) Always there for one another in each others' time of need. The death of one's father always weighs heavily on a son's heart, and I can see how Merry truly needs his Pippin right now. Wonderful tale. :-) PF

Author's reply

Thank you! I couldn't really write from personal experience, since I haven't lost a parent yet, but I have been there for friends who have. Thank you for reading and commenting.

PIppinfan1988 · 14 May 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

That was truly beautiful. I know Frodo's leaving had to hit them both hard, and this was one very lovely perspective. PF

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I haven't looked at this story in awhile, and I forgot how angsty it was. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Pearl Took · 1 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Saradoc

And Merry will, I'm sure, be there for Pip when he becomes the Took and Thain. Well done, PipMer :-)

Grey Wonderer · 27 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Saradoc

That must have been very difficult. Merry is mourning his father and suddenly he is also in charge. Good thing Pippin is there for him at this point. Difficult decisions about running Buckland would have been very hard to deal with while Merry was struggling with his grief.

Grey Wonderer · 27 February 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

Very touching. This is a very interesting look at their friendship from all of the hardest moments in Merry's life. Do you plan to write one that looks at it from Pippin's most difficult moments too? (hint)

Grey Wonderer · 27 February 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

I enjoyed this very much. I like the fact that Pippin says things straight out when talking to Merry. So very like Pippin. It also speaks much of their friendship that he is able to do this without making Merry so angry that they lose thier friendship over it all.

Larner · 26 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Saradoc

Oh, yes. The future Thain and the new Master, each supporting the other, Merry receiving from his cousin the love he can give, the reassurance Merry needs. And it will be all right.

SlightlyTookish · 18 February 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

Both chapters are lovely. I'm very fond of seeing Pippin in the caretaker role, as well as Merry receiving comfort for a change. I'm so glad they both have each other.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed them. I wasn't thinking when I just posted the first chapter at Took Talk..I completely forgot it would just lead to both chapters anyway. Duhhhhh!!!! lol Thank you for the comments!

Pearl Took · 3 February 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

These are good :-) I love Pippin getting to be the strong one for Merry sometimes.

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl! I think they really show how Pippin has matured through time, to be the caregiver once in awhile.

Daynawayna · 31 January 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

AGAIN with the tears.. and right off the top of the page you hit me with SOBBING HOBBITS! What am I going to do with you, PipMer? :) Another lovely angstyhobbitlove story, written just right. Poor Merry tho'... he loved his 'stella, didn't he? ::sad sigh::

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Daynawayna! Again, a great compliment, to have made you cry...;) This part of the story wouldn't let me rest until I had written it down; I'm still not sure what THAT was about, but I must have had some angst hidden in me that needed to be let loose!

Daynawayna · 31 January 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

Thaaaaat's it... go and make me cry at work. LOL :) Sobbing hobbits do me in every time! Poor Merry, so stoic and so sensitive too. I'm glad he's got Pippin to help him through this. Now to see what the next chapter brings.... :) God bless, Dayna

Author's reply

Hi, Dayna! I'm so glad my story affected you in this way...no greater compliment can a writer get than to be told he/she made someone cry! LOL. I'm glad you liked it ;)

elanor winterflowers · 30 January 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

How very sad! It's hard to think of two such good and elderly fellows being torn by such painful grief, isn't it? The description of the disarray in Merry's room was particularly good: the visual counterpart of his state of mind. Pippin was right to be uneasy about that! I liked the reference to Crickhollow, too; a nice bit of shading there.

Author's reply

Thanks, Elanor! Yes, it was quite sad, but I feel it was quite realistic. Losing a spouse has to be one of the worst pains there is, aside from losing a child.

Larner · 30 January 2007 · Chapter 3: Estella

Yes, they truly need one another now, and Pippin's doing exactly the right thing.

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes, Pippin will always be there for his Merry.

Larner · 30 January 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

And they need one another. Yes, a horrible thing to think on--I'm getting ready to really rejoin life and get married, and the one I've always felt was my older brother has chosen not to be there. How can I be happy with him so broken? Yes, they'd be there for one another--always.

Author's reply

Hi, Larner. Wow, this story really parallels your life, doesn't it? I'm sorry to hear about your friend; I hope he finds happiness, and that you will find it too, regardless of what he's going through. Thank you for the comments!

Antane · 28 January 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

Thank God they did have each other - bad enough they lost half of their heart, it would been terrible to lose both halves. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you, Antane! Stories like these are hard to write, but somehow writing them helps me come to terms with issues in my own life. Glad you liked it!

elanor winterflowers · 28 January 2007 · Chapter 1: Frodo

A sensitive portrait of Merry in distress, shrouding himself in thought and silence, with traces of bitterness leaking out around the edges. I have always worked on the assumption that loss was particularly difficult for Merry. I think you captured him very well! Nicely paced, too. And I love the little exchange at the end: "What would I do without you?" "Starve." "Git." :D

Author's reply

Thank you, Elanor! I was hoping I hadn't switched too abruptly from sorrow to jesting, but you know that hobbits are known for making light of serious situations, so that's what I went with.
