Ah, the vagaries of youth! And Eowyn was willing to experiment with this new attraction she wields? And he was willing to follow her lead, at least. Very funny and charming.

Oh my, but this is charming! And full of humor to boot. ...the Lord Éomer merely hit me once (although I did see three of him for a moment)... *giggles* Mice idea that there should have been a time when she was carefree and happy and a true teenager (giving brother and cousin quite a lot to do...). Would you mind if I translated this delightful little piece into german? This is my site: http://www.cuthalionsbogen.de/home.html Cúthalion

I'm quite late in replying to this, aren't I? And yep, that was my point exactly. Eowyn can't always have been angsting around the Meduseld, she had to have acted like a normal teenage girl at some time! And she probably got very frustrated with that brother and cousin trying to stop her fun.:) I'd be delighted if you'd like to translate this into German! Would you mind e-mailing me at Edorass at AOL.com?

This was a most charming story! Though I wonder what Eomer had to say to Eowyn after he sent your minstrel packing. Very nice and evocative use of language, I felt like I was sitting across from your protagonist in an inn somewhere sharing a pitcher of mead. Edlyn

I think Eowyn probably learned some very bad language from her angry brother. :) And from her angry cousin, too, come to that. Thank you!

Hi Edoraslass! I really enjoyed reading this... to see Éowyn so innocent and carefree (before the days of the Worm), and Éomer playing his big brother role to the hilt (though showing some mercy by not breaking the minstrel's fingers). I really got a nice sense of the minstrel's personality and history, too... nice bit of characterization! Well done! - Barbara

Thank you! I really do like to play with Eomer and Eowyn as the siblings they are - I think they'd have such a strong dynamic.

Well - that was very kind of Eomer! Simply to satisfy himself with one blow and the suggestion that the minstrel should remove himself from Edoras ... very reasonable. It's good to think of an ... experimental Eowyn, cheerfully investigating the joys of kissing in the days before the shadows bore down on them all. And a minstrel probably isn't a bad choice of partner - at least he is definitely not expecting to use her as a stepping stone to influence and power!

Author's reply

*snort* Oh yes, Eomer's very reasonable in all things. :) And yep, I do like to think of a happier, more carefree Eowyn, not as burdened and cold as she becomes in later years. Thanks!

*grin* Poor nameless musician. I can imagine in later years, how he would feel to hear of her deeds in the War! Eowyn must have driven Eomer to distraction in those years...I wonder how many black eyes he left resignedly in his wake?

Author's reply

I can imagine in later years, how he would feel to hear of her deeds in the War! Now why would you go and put that idea in my head? :) I'd think that after a couple such incidents, Eowyn would get much, much sneakier. You'd have to, with Eomer and Theodred watching your every move!

Oh, poor lad. Forced to travel on, like some knight on errantry, with only his Lady's 'favour' to give him comfort. Great mood setting Edoraslass.

Author's reply

Heee - I'm sure he saw himself as a bit of a martyr, too. Thanks!

meckinock · 21 February 2007 · Chapter 1: The Promise in Her Eyes

This was so much fun! What a nice glimpse of a younger, more playful Eowyn. And I loved it that she managed to slip the minstrel her handkerchief.

Author's reply

Keeping up with teen-aged Eowyn would have been quite the task, I think. That minstrel had no idea. :) Thanks!

Oh my. What a wonderful picture of Eowyn, on the verge of womanhood, full of passion and life and playing with fire.

Author's reply

I like to think that she did have some time of being a normal, teenaged girl. What a handful she would have been! Thanks!
