Baggins Babe · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 18: R: Like a Radiant Radagast
I've always loved Radagast's character - probably because he is in tune with Nature and wild animals. I've often felt that his task was to help heal the damage done by Sauron, and this was a wonderful moment - one I'd love to see you expand on some day *hint, hint*
Author's reply
That's the same thing I've often thought about him--Yavanna *had* to have had a special reason for choosing him--and I don't think he was a "failure" in the sense that the blue wizards or Saruman were. Jodancingtree has already expanded wonderfully on Radagast's character--have you ever read "Following the Other Wizard"?
Baggins Babe · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
Aaawwww! That is so cute - they are charming, aren't they? Children of Yavanna, most definitely. I don't know how you do it, Dreamflower. You have risen to these challenges with incredible skill.
Author's reply
Thank you! I love challenges--they make me have to stretch for things I wouldn't otherwise try.
Larner · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
Yes, if they have a special Vala for their patronage, for Hobbits it must be Yavanna; and I certainly agree that they are charming.
Author's reply
I am quite sure of it myself! They seem so in tune with the things that are important to her. And as for charm, well, we know all about that--they've certainly charmed *us*, haven't they? ;-)
Pearl Took · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
Hehehehe wee new hobbity creatures :-) :-) This is cute, and I like that a Valar can catch yawning :-)
Author's reply
They are quite new in this! And yawning is the kind of thing that is contagious for *anybody*, LOL!
harrowcat · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
They do grow on you don't they?
Author's reply
They do indeed! *grin*
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
That was just *too* cute!! I mean, really - you don't intend to expound on this wonderul tale?? This was a mere teaser for me. Again, most excellent. :-) PF
Author's reply
I may at some point in time. But this was just a drabble incorporating one of my own crackpot theories about hobbits.
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 24: X: Like Excruciating Exertions on the Way to That Crucial X
Poor old Bombur, lol. His friends losing thier grip on the rope was a little spine-chilling. That was a lovely filler for The Hobbit. PF
Author's reply
Well, since we *knew* he'd make it, I had to put in a *little* suspense! I wish more people wrote gap-fillers for The Hobbit!
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 23: W: Like a Wet Warg
Holy cow, you're *good*! I don't think I could ever get under the skin or into the deepest thoughts of a warg and take on its character. Very excellent indeed. :-) PF
Author's reply
Thank you! I never would have thought it either, without the prompt! It wasn't easy!
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 22: V: Like a Visiting Varda
Wow...that was excellent and *so* well written! :-) I've heard of Iorhael but never Perhael - that sounds rather nice and fitting for Sam. Now...wouldn't you just love to write something like this on the lines of Pippin and Merry arriving in the Far Green Country? (hint, hint!) PF
Author's reply
Perhael was Sam's Elvish name, as given in the "Field of Cormallen". Hmm...well, only problem with that is that I'd have to write them dying, and I'd really rather not go there!
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 21: U: Like Unsavory Urges in Umbar
omg...I guess they didn't have the FDA back then, lol. Yikes, just the thought of food poisoning and *then* seasickness to top if off is retched. Ooops - did I spell that wrong? =:-D PF
Author's reply
*giggle* Probably not in Umbar, anyway, LOL! "Wretched" is how you feel, "retch" is what you do when you feel that way! 8-D
PIppinfan1988 · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 20: T: Like a Turgid Turgon
Faramir - bless his heart. With that seemingly endless line of stewards and kings, I wouldn't want to have been in his or Boromir's shoes memorizing their names and various aspects of their rule. It was nice to see Frodo cheer up a bit at the mention of ale. :-) PF
Author's reply
You have a point there! Faramir has learned a *few* things about hobbits, after all, LOL!
GamgeeFest · 1 April 2007 · Chapter 25: Y: Like a Yawning Yavanna
Aw! It seems that no one can resist the charms of hobbits, not even one of the Vala.
Author's reply
Well, no! Of course not! And she'll see that they become even *more* charming!
GamgeeFest · 31 March 2007 · Chapter 24: X: Like Excruciating Exertions on the Way to That Crucial X
*snerk* Poor Bombur! I love all his thoughts as he's being hulled up the mountain cliff, and I'm glad his final wish will come true. :D
Author's reply
Yes, poor fellow! But I am sure that he was glad to do just that!
GamgeeFest · 31 March 2007 · Chapter 22: V: Like a Visiting Varda
Now that's an eye-opener and no mistake! A visit from Elbereth - I'm surprised Sam managed to stay coherent. I can see all his years spent as Mayor and raising 13 children has prepared him for just about any surprise. And I'm glad he's finally able to drop the "Mr." off of Frodo.
Author's reply
I think you are quite right about his years as Mayor, and as patriarch of the Gardner brood would have made a good deal of difference. And it hardly would be fair to Frodo if he continued to be formal, when they are the only hobbits there!
AspenJules · 31 March 2007 · Chapter 24: X: Like Excruciating Exertions on the Way to That Crucial X
Hmmm, I seemed to have missed this one in your lj, so I thought I would just review it here. This was excellent. Poor Bombur, he's going to be black and blue by the time he gets to the top, but you did a wonderful job taking the few statements made about his excruciating ascent and making it into an extremely credible story from his viewpoint. LOL... figures he'd worry about the supplies before himself! If he makes it up, he wants to be sure there'll be enough! hee!
Author's reply
Yes, he'll be banged and bruised--but at least he won't be a dragon's appetizer! I'm glad you thought it seemed credible--I'm sure he would have be scared to death. Well, there is that--and that if the supplies went up, he could postpone having to go up himself. But fortunately for Bombur, Thorin had his priorities straight!
Bodkin · 30 March 2007 · Chapter 24: X: Like Excruciating Exertions on the Way to That Crucial X
Poor Bombur! What a good interpretation of the title! Mind you, I feel sorry for those on the other end of the rope - dragging Bombur up a cliff can't have been a picnic. But at least they escaped the dragon's wrath. For now.
Author's reply
Yes, poor Bombur! But you are quite right, of course! You'll notice that they got Bofur to the top a lot more quickly, LOL! And they are left, more or less, safe in the tunnels, thanks to the excellent Burglar Baggins! For now.
Bodkin · 30 March 2007 · Chapter 23: W: Like a Wet Warg
No downs without an up! Brother is dead - long live the new Boss Warg. But he'll do better to avoid those dangerous two-legs - despite the attraction of the sweet scent of power.
Author's reply
*grin* I think the new Boss Warg has a healthy respect for the wholeness of his own hide! He'll remember how this encounter ended.
Bodkin · 30 March 2007 · Chapter 22: V: Like a Visiting Varda
Goodness. All it took was a visit from Varda - and Sam's managed to drop the Mr. Very impressive meeting! (Although I suspect Sam was secretly probably more thrilled with meeting Frodo again after all these years.)
Author's reply
Well, I think it helped him make his mind up. I'm sure he'd known Frodo would prefer it, and I think She helped him get his nerve up. And yes, I do suspect you are right.
Queen Galadriel · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 24: X: Like Excruciating Exertions on the Way to That Crucial X
Oh, poor Bombur! I think this is the first fanfic I've read from his POV. Aw, the profession of a toymaker suits him somehow. :) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Well, there really is precious little fic from The Hobbit, so that would not surprise me! I'm glad you think he'd make a good toymaker--I used that in my contribution to Gayalondiel's group story "Yuletide Tales"; it just seemed to me that it would suit him for some reason.
Queen Galadriel · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 23: W: Like a Wet Warg
Ooo, chilling! Very interesting to do a story from the POV of a warg. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Well, there's a first time for everything, LOL! I don't think I'll do it again, though!
Queen Galadriel · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 22: V: Like a Visiting Varda
Aw! :D Wow! A beautiful, lyrical description of Varda and of her voice. And I love it that Sam has finally decided to try to let go of unnecessary honorifics! *grins* (My mind goes back to the "proper" challenge of A New Reckoning.) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Thank you! I thought that She might help Sam be willing to let go of the honorific, finally. After all, "my" Sam allowed Goldberry to teach him to swim finally! So if a Maiar could do that, how much more of an effect would a Valar have?
Queen Galadriel · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 21: U: Like Unsavory Urges in Umbar
Oh my, I have a lot to catch up on! School. But now it's my spring break! Oh, this is hilarious! LOL! I love healer Aragorn. :) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
I love healer Aragorn too--but so often when he's in healer-mode, it's all angsty. I liked the idea of it being a bit humorous for a change, LOL!
Raksha The Demon · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 23: W: Like a Wet Warg
A wonderful Warg's eye view of the Fellowship. Poor "Brother". But the idea of a Ring-bearing Warg is scary indeed.
Author's reply
Thanks--it was kind of hard to get into a Warg's head! But the idea of a Ring-bearing Warg is scary indeed. I don't think the wargs really knew it was The Ring, but they knew the smell of power, and like any of Morgoth's creatures, would be drawn to such evil. And I imagined the leader of the pack devouring it much like Carcharoth devoured the Silmaril--but with a somewhat different effect!
Anonymous · 29 March 2007 · Chapter 23: W: Like a Wet Warg
I've been following all of these pieces, and this is by far the creepiest! I love it!
Author's reply
Thank you very much! 8-)
