I really liked this one; you've captured Sam's essence perfectly.

Author's reply

Thank you; I tried. :-)

Pearl Took · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 5: The Great Caradhras Coverup

Aw! That is soooooo wonderful! Dear Gandalf :-)

Author's reply

He loves those hobbits. :-)

Bodkin · 3 April 2007 · Chapter 5: The Great Caradhras Coverup

Ah! Sam is such a loyal and supportive friend. I'm glad to see Gandalf appreciating him - and keeping him warm.

Author's reply

Sam is always so busy giving TLC, it's about time he got some!

harrowcat · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 5: The Great Caradhras Coverup

I love the title that goes with this Rowan! *g*

Author's reply

Oh good...I was a little afraid it might be misleading and people might think it was a spoof or something.

Larner · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 5: The Great Caradhras Coverup

Oh, how very sweet and typical of each of the three of them!

Author's reply

Thanks!

Larner · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

Once he can gripe, he's definitely doing better! Heh!

Andrea · 2 April 2007 · Chapter 5: The Great Caradhras Coverup

Wonderful, Rowan! The characterisation of the three companions was perfect. "Loving defiance" - That's what Sam tries to do all the time and what makes him well-loved among his friends and among us readers! Thank you!

Author's reply

He certainly knows how to get his own way with his master when Frodo is in one of his stubborn moods! :-)

demeter d · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Peter Jackson Product Placement Moment #1

A spot-on spoof of those Geico ads!

Inkling · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 4: Son of My Heart

I like that this alludes to the selfish streak I've always seen in Bilbo as he's portrayed in LOTR, if not always in fanfiction.

Author's reply

Thank you! A lot of people don't get that about Bilbo, that he *does* have a selfish streak along with his kindness and generosity. I wanted to do a slightly different take on his adoption of Frodo, that it started out as his solution to the S-B problem (though he believed he *could* come to love the boy), but turned into so much more for him.

Bodkin · 24 March 2007 · Chapter 4: Son of My Heart

Just what both Bilbo and Frodo needed!

Author's reply

You got it! Not to mention that Bilbo's choice of heir also happened to be crucial to the fate of Middle-earth.

Larner · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 4: Son of My Heart

Oh, how wonderful and appropriate a prize for our Shirebound. Yes, that's our Bilbo, loving his lad so.

Author's reply

I'm not sure why, but these familial emotion things are my favorite thing to write. :-)

Larner · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

Oh, yes, I can see just that complaint having been made! Alas, he must feel ill at all.

Larner · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Peter Jackson Product Placement Moment #1

Oh, but that is good, Rowan! I like it!

Author's reply

Coming from you, that is especially gratifying. :-)

Bodkin · 22 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

Of course medicines must be nasty. You don't want to encourage people to enjoy being ill!

Author's reply

Never thought of it like that. :-)

Bodkin · 22 March 2007 · Chapter 1: Pervinca's Gift

Pervinca knows something is up! I love the sibling relationship between her and Pippin.

Author's reply

I love stories about family relationships, period. :-)

Andrea · 20 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

Merry shrugged. "It must be because they love hearing their patients moan about it." Now, that's the kind of answer I would have expected ;-) However, Frodo was satisfied with Merry's explanation, despite sticking out his tongue. He's definitely on the mend! Thank you :)

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)

Pearl Took · 20 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Peter Jackson Product Placement Moment #1

Absolutely laughing out loud!! Perfect!! This is perfect!!

Author's reply

*blinks* Wow. Thank you!

Queen Galadriel · 19 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

Aw, these are all lovely! The first one got me all teary-eyed, the second...ROTFL! I love it! And the third is just sweet! :) Poor Frodo! :) God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Aww! Glad you enjoyed them!

Lindelea · 19 March 2007 · Chapter 1: Pervinca's Gift

This has been gnawing at a corner of my brain all morning, until finally I had to dash off a drabble with "the return". May I post it and link to this chapter as its inspiration? Thanks, Lin

Author's reply

I am honored. :-)

Grey Wonderer · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

I agree with Frodo. Why does medicine have to taste bad?

Author's reply

Damn right! They can put a human on the moon, but... (grumbles)

Grey Wonderer · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Peter Jackson Product Placement Moment #1

LOL Now that was funny!

Author's reply

Thanks!

Grey Wonderer · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 1: Pervinca's Gift

I love this. It's such a complete brother/sister thing.

Author's reply

For some reason, it's family emotion scenes that always seem to get me the most, and what I always seem to go back to writing.

Lindelea · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 1: Pervinca's Gift

Aww. And he might never come back. And that's not the half of it. I'd love to know what became of that handkerchief. And to be a fly on the wall to see the scene with Pervinca and Pippin, when Pippin returns, to fetch archers to help throw the ruffians out of the Shire.

Author's reply

Hmm, I know a hint when I hear one. :-) Maybe someday...ya never know...

Lindelea · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 3: On the Taste of Medicinal Draughts

I've often wondered that, myself. And my characters seem to be of the same mind. (Excepting the healers, of course, who are often apologising that the draught doesn't taste worse. Not as bitter as it might be, but then we were pressed for time. *g* Thanks for the smiles this evening.

Author's reply

You're ever so welcome. :-)

Lindelea · 18 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Peter Jackson Product Placement Moment #1

I thought perhaps they'd be drinking The Real Thing in the celebration scene, or proclaiming that Things Go Better With Coke. (Or Pippin might have muttered to himself, creeping away with the Palantir, You only go around once in life. So grab for the gusto! Have wasted way too many of my formative years in front of the boob tube.

Author's reply

Me too, obviously. :-)
