Boromir's fan · 18 March 2010 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

What an extraordinary good fic! Please, continue - hopefully your muses will come back soon! I am certainly looking forward to a new chapter of this!

Esquire_of_Rohan · 26 October 2008 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

This is good so far. Do write more soon.

Author's reply

Thanks for letting me know that you like my story so far, Esquire of Rohan :-) Unfortunately, I am suffering a severe case of writer's block that lasts for more than two years, and while I am still willing to finish this story some day, it won't be any time soon.

Merilwen · 20 February 2008 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

Great story! I love the way you handled Gimli and Legolas's reactions to Boromir's betrayal, and also the conflicting emotions Boromir felt-resentment that they should treat him like that, but also knowing he deserved it. Eomer was also very well done-he's my favourite male book character, and you handled him stupendously. Do try to keep the interrogation chapters under four...please? :-) Keep up the good work, and please update soon!

Author's reply

Thank you for your review, Merilwen. I hope it will help to beat coax my recalcitrant muses back into cooperation. I am currently revising/rewriting the part of the story that is posted so far, so updates might take another few months. But I am still working on it, so stay tuned (though I do have five rather than four interrogation chapters planned >:-))

Anonymous · 5 October 2006 · Chapter 9: The Flight

Hi. I really enjoy your story. It's nice how you parallel the book. Did notice one typo. In the last sentence of the fifth paragraph from the bottom, you typed "waver" instead of "wafer".

Author's reply

Thanks for catching that typo. And thanks for taking the time to review :-) Doomed to Live is undergoing some major rewriting at the moment, so I'll fix it when I post the revised version.

Tardolien · 6 December 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

Pleas, write!

Author's reply

Uh, I am doing what I can. However, real life has other plans for me *big sigh*. Maybe, one of these days, I can acutally stay at home on all the overtime I've worked these past weeks and get some writing done. Anyway, I take it that you kind of like my story? Thanks for the review:-)

Timmy2222 · 28 July 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

RL should come first, and I hope everything works out as planned. Best wishes for you! But - really - truly - Interrogations III is planned? Gross! Do you keep in mind that poor Aragorn, y'know, that's the son of Arathorn, is the heir of the throne of Gondor? And that he should reach the end of this story and be still able to climb the steps and receive the crown? I mean, without him either being carried up or climbing on all fours? LOL! -- Sorry for that rambling. I look forward to the next chapter... yes, I do *vbg*. Timmy

Author's reply

Thanks for reviewing AGAIN :-) RL has turned my world upside down (in a literal sense - that's what moving does to you). Erm, yes, Interrogation III is planned ... as is Interrogation IV ... unless I find a more fitting chapter title, which I doubt ;-) And who said Aragorn will reach that throne in the end? *fliewatuet slinks away, cackling manically*

Timmy2222 · 25 July 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

Wow, that was a tough one! And a good one, too. I marvel at your style, fliwatuet, giving the reader so much information and detail without ever overdoing or boring him! Great job here. My favorite lines: a) 'To admit defeat was bad enough; he would not let Borsúk see the extent of it.' = Excellent summary of the king's bravery faced with the terrible odds. b) '... the Orc had taken hold of his hair again, a habit he found rather annoying, for Borsúk stank.' = You managed to slip in a little joke inmid all the horrible things that are done to Aragorn. Yet, honestly, fliwatuet, this was a deep grip into the 'Aragorn-torture' chest, ey? Calling this 'interrogations' (euphemism of the day), I'm quite interested in what part two will hold in store. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Timmy

Author's reply

Thanks for the praise! Its wonderful to hear from you again. BTW there will also be a chapter 'Interrogation III' *evil smile*, but it will take a while until it will be finished. Real Life (TM) is keeping me busy. If I (and my readers) am lucky, I'll have the next chapter ready by the end of September :-(

Mordaen · 17 July 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

This is so good! Please write some more!

Author's reply

Thanks! I am working on the upcoming chapters, but Real Life has a busy summer planned for me, so don't expect any updates before the end of September.

ROMAragorn · 20 June 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

I love this story. Aragorn - angst/torture.... I love it...lol Please please UPDATE soon. I am growing rather impatient.

Author's reply

Thanks for the review. I fear I have to try your patience, though. I will be quite busy this summer with travelling, moving and having guests, so it might well be September until the next chapter is ready. So don't hold your breath ;-) fliewatuet

meckinock · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

Yay, glad you finally posted! I really liked the interaction between Ugluk and Borsuk. Ugluk seems definitely the more practical one. Don't hurt your captive to the point where you'll have to carry him! I don't think there's going to be much left of Aragorn to take to Saruman; I hope Legolas and Gimli catch up with him soon. It looks like Gandalf to the rescue; maybe he can help them out a bit.

Author's reply

Hi, meckinock! Borsúk thinks he's cleverer than Uglúk and he sure has his own thing going. But I think this chapter showed why Uglúk is the boss. And as far as Aragorn is concerned, I can assure you that there is enough left of him. He has to last for a while :-) (and that's all I will say about his fate for now) Thanks for the review, fliewatuet

AM · 14 May 2005 · Chapter 11: Interrogations I

A rather perfect day: I'm finally (after 6 months) off that cliff plus I had the sadist in me fed. The future sure doesn't look good for our dear ranger. Please tell us what everyone else is up to.

Author's reply

Good. Now you only need a little patience until your arms return to their former lengths ;-) As for Aragorn's future: it does not look good indeed. But your inner sadist will have some fun.

AM · 7 May 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

Just read the preview for Chapter 11 - YES!

Author's reply

Hmm ... I certainly didn't expect to find a review *here* for a chapter that isn't yet posted. I am glad, however, that my choice of preview was to your liking :-)

Thorongirl · 2 May 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

Actually *looks around* this is viggomaniac from "the other site." Will you be updating soon? I love this story. (How do you like my new "original" name?

Author's reply

Nice name :-) And yes, I will be updating soon. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depends on the point of view), my beta-reader suggested some changes to the next chapter that I thought were a pretty good idea. Unfortunately, they required some additional text. But most of that is already written. So I hope that I'll manage to post within a week (depending on my internet connection and the weekend weather ;-)). Patience, love! fliewatuet

emn1936 · 18 April 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

I just discovered this story and am completely hooked! I'm looking forward (hopefully) to another update soon. Is there a way to be notified when an update is available?

Author's reply

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know that you enjoy my little tale. I hope that I'll manage to post the next chapter by the end of the months. BTW, storiesofarda offers an author notification feature. Go to the 'Reader' menu after you have logged in (third link from the right on top of the page). Below the list of your reviews there should be a link named 'Request Note'. If you click on it, you get a drop down menu from which you can select an author. If you select an author, you will get an email whenever that author updates one of his/her stories. If that does not work for you, drop me a note and I'll send you an email whenever 'Doomed to Live' is updated.

meckinock · 23 March 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

Hey, I'm so glad you updated! I really enjoyed the character interactions in this chapter. It's interesting to see how the Three Hunters might have turned out with a slightly different character composition. Boromir is intriguing; it's interesting to see how he gets along with Legolas and Gimli. Gimli is a hoot; and Legolas is very distinctive. Sorry to hear it'll be another two months before you surface again, though.

Author's reply

Hi, meckinock! Thanks for the review. And I am glad that the chapter worked for you. Tweaking the original text to fit the different characters was a major pain. I try to work steadily on the next chapter and so far, it is behaving well ... Cheers, fliewatuet

Raksha The Demon · 22 March 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

This story is certainly a page-turner! Take all the time you need to update, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Author's reply

Hi Raksha! Welcome on bord and thanks for letting me know that you like my story! Cheers, fliewatuet

AM · 22 March 2005 · Chapter 10: Meetings and Partings

Jumping up and down for joy at the update but stomping my feet and screaming in frustration at the (again) evil cliffie. Thanks for filling us in on the Three Hunters and really looking forwards to Boromir meeting Grima. " ... the grey cloth that had caught in the branches, torn and bloodied, a forgotten banner, the remnant of a lost battle that fluttered in the chill easterly wind." "But where are they now?" My question exactly ... If, at some point in the future, you hear a very loud shriek, it is me falling from this cliff that I've been clinging to for the last 4+ months - I'm holding on by my shredded finger nails, have some pity. But truly, whenever you get to it, I'll be here.

Author's reply

Hi, AM *waves* Thanks for the review! I, too, am looking forward to Boromir meeting Grima, though I have no idea about the outcome. Boromir has proven to be one unpredictable fellow. As for my cliffies: you know that story from the Silmarillion about that poor Elf that got chained to a cliff? Now you have some first-hand experience on how he feels *bveg* Or you'd have to take it from an athletic point of view ... But I'd rather not have you let go, so I'll try to hurry. Cheers, fliewatuet

Anonymous · 22 January 2005 · Chapter 9: The Flight

More, please; and soon!

Author's reply

I am working on it :-)

Timmy2222 · 13 November 2004 · Chapter 9: The Flight

Really, a wonderful chapter. I could feel the tension rise the moment Aragorn felt himself pressed betwen two enemies... and not knowing the outcome. I'm glad you don't make a superman out of the ranger. Merry and Pippin are enjoyable too, and I hope they will escape. It does not look like Aragorn will after all. Or maybe the Riders from Rohan appear at last? They announced themselves for quite a long time! Keep on the good work! - T.

Author's reply

Thanks for the review! I always love to hear that people agree with my version of Aragorn. Yes, he is not superman, though he has some superhuman skills. But he is very determined and has much experience in getting off his butt even if the whole world is standing up against him.

grumpy · 13 November 2004 · Chapter 9: The Flight

Great chapter, I like how you have written all the characters. I liked how in the middle of their escape they almost a discussion about knives. Glad they got away, well hopefully the hobbits did. Things did not look good for Strider.

Author's reply

Thanks for the praise. I am glad that you like the interlude with the knife. Pippin decided to be just Pippin in this scene. And I agree, things don't look good for Strider. But saying more would give away too much, and I love leaving my readers dangling off cliff-faces *eg* fliewatuet

Golden Elf · 12 November 2004 · Chapter 9: The Flight

I'm really enjoying this story. It has great description of the trials of everyone, not just our favorite Ranger and Elf. You are doing an amazing job projecting their pain and burning desire to save the hobbits. I can't wait for the next installment. Thanks for such a great read!

Author's reply

Thanks for the lovely review, Golden Elf. I hope I'll get another chapter up before christmas, but I won't make any promises. Real Life can be a hazzle at times. fliewatuet

AM · 12 November 2004 · Chapter 9: The Flight

Still doing happy dance! Read this chapter twice as I am absolutely enthralled by your writing. Only found two things to improve: * " ... numbed his entire right side and robbed his breath, and as his world tilted and began to spin. He did not notice that Merry severed the bonds about his legs ... " -> " ... numbed his entire right side and robbed his breath. As his world tilted and began to spin he did not notice that Merry severed the bonds about his legs ... " * " ... for he did not take care to conceal his tracks, on the contrary. He made sure to leave footprints ... " -> " ... for he did not take care to conceal his tracks. On the contrary he made sure to leave footprints ... " Please update soon. If you don't, my fingers will give out and I'll plummet from this cliffie.

Author's reply

Hi, AM. Thanks for the lovely review, and the suggestions. Hmm ... (visualises AM hanging on the side of a cliff) ... I think I should try to hurry up a bit ... or do you think I could get away with simply admitting to being EVIL and leave it at that? *ducks flying objects* Hang on, fliewatuet (cackling manically)

meckinock · 12 November 2004 · Chapter 9: The Flight

I'm so glad you updated. I really love your characterizations. Aragorn is so stalwart and determined, and the hobbits are so brave. I really like how the orcs each have their own individual motivations and personalities and conflicts. Orcs can so easily turn into one-dimensional all-purpose baddies, but yours really come to life. I hope you update again very soon. I wish I didn't have to wait two chapters to find out what happened to Aragorn or how he, Merry, and Pippin fare in the upcoming battle.

Author's reply

Thanks, for the lovely review, meckinock. I am glad that you like my Orcs. Not that I intended to write that much about them in the first place, but Tolkien made it quite clear that they do have their own agenda and are not just some nameless evil minions, so I tried to stick to that. And I must admit that I often spend more time pondering about the motivation of the bad guys than the motivation of the good guys ;-) And I, too, hope to update very soon, but I fear RL has other plans for me ...

Timmy2222 · 5 October 2004 · Chapter 8: Cold Comfort

Oooh, oh, this is getting worse... I am shaking my head in awe how Aragorn had managed to remain conscious AND on his feet with that severe injury. But the breaking of the collar bone will not be easily mended. Aragorn was right with his order to tell the Hobbits to escape alone if a chance occurs; he won't be with them, I fear. Again a wonderful display of how the characters interact - their bravery and companionship under the worst circumstances. Looking forward to more. - T.

Author's reply

Now, I will neither ease your fears nor confirm them. Only that, yes, Aragorn's sword cut won't be easily mended. He still has quite an adventure ahead of him. I hope you won't have to wait too long for more. The next chapter is basically finished, but there are some pieces that still suck. I hope I'll get them polished soon ... fliewatuet

Timmy2222 · 5 October 2004 · Chapter 7: The Falling Leaves of Lórien

Ai, poor Aragorn! It is admirable at least that he kept on his feet for so long. As the tension is rising, I wonder where this plot might lead to (guess: Saruman revealing his power and knowledge; the Company's attempt to rescue; Merry and Pippin's deeds to come), and I look forward to read more. - T.

Author's reply

I only hope that Aragorn's stamina does not seem too unbelievable. As far as rescue-attempts and the like are concerned, you'll have to wait and see ... fliewatuet
