BL . . . you have excelled yourself. This is amazing. I found myself racing through the text to find out what was going to happen next. So many wonderful details . . . Gandalf's staff . . . the curtains . . . the movement of Frodo's flesh as Elrond's fingers slipped inside. This story is a keeper.

Elwen, these words coming from the author of "Tolo Dan Na Ngalad," which I have read possibly 20 times and several times during the course of this story, are words that will be treasured in my heart. Thank you.

Ren · 27 February 2004 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Wow. The first chapter, and this is shaping up to be one of the best fanfics I ever read. Ever so descriptive, throughly believable, the emotions are real...absolutely loving it!

grumpy · 13 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

hi there, love this story, liked the story of Pippin in the kitchen. everybody here is great the hobbits, Lord Elrond, the twins, Arwin, and Aragorn with his badges of honor. looking forward to more

Hai · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

I hope your next chapter is soon!! I can hardly stand to wait and find out how things go! I liked the story about Pippin waking Frodo up! A bit of a light story to help make everyone a little happier. This amused me to know end "Against the overwhelmingly odd, anyway,"! And all the hobbits reactions to Arwen coming in! Looking forward to more, make it quick! Thank you!

Lossenchristal · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

Finally! Great chapter, and all the more, because now I KNOW that you are going to get to the Important part in the next one! I can't wait! Please hurry! Namarië, Lossenchristal

shirebound · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

"...It puffed up out of the fry pan and flowed out onto the stove and over the stove and onto the floor and across the floor and…" "I think they have the idea, Merry," said Pippin stiffly. What a wonderful story! Leave it to Merry to keep them all diverted. But... Budgie! I know you have a lot going on in your life right now, and it's beyond selfish of me to say this, but... I can't bear the suspense! Update as soon as you can!

LKK · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

TBC I hate those letters! I hope the next chapter comes soon. The story of why Pippin is not allowed to wake Frodo up was a nice diversion, but please, please, get that shard out of Frodo soon!!!

fliewatuet · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

I should try to remeber to never read a hobbit-centric fic on an empty stomach. I would have been content with just a slice of bread, an apple or a bit of oatmeal, but once I read your description of all those goodies delivered for the Hobbits for breakfast, I had to run to the bakery myself for rolls and pastries and other such things. Again, I loved the mixture between lightheartedness and darkness in your story. Though it becomes more and more difficult for the Big People to cheer up the Hobbits, they still manage to distract them from time to time (and Aragorn's apparently somewhat battered face seems like a nice starting point for a talk about matters less serious). But my absolute favourite part was, after all: "Estel told me they were honorably won," came Arwen’s sweet voice from the door, "defending himself against overwhelming odds." The effect that her entrance had on the half-dressed hobbits was astonishing. Sam threw himself under a divan, struggling to don his breeches. Pippin, shirtless, yelped and tried to hide behind the washstand. "Against the overwhelmingly odd, anyway," remarked Gandalf acerbically. That bit just made my day (which had barely started by the time I read this). fliewatuet

Even though I know everything will be ok in the end, this story has me so anxious for more! I love the way you manage to work in comical elements into such a dramatic and sad story (Merry's story about Pippin's mis-hap in the kitchen was delightful!). Please continue soon.

Anso · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

Thank you for yet a wonderful, exellent and exciting chapter. I allways look forward to your updates.

Cuthalion · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

"Take your position, my children. We begin." And you stop???? Want to kill your readers, hmm? No, honestly, this is thrilling and fine and the story with the sweetcake is a true relief in all that sadness and fear and... please go on. QUICK!!

Grey Wonderer · 12 February 2004 · Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve

I am so nervous! I feel like I am watching surgery! Is that supposed to happen? This is so very good. I loved the sweet cake story. Started this chapter laughing and now I am a bundle of nerves. Is that fair? Hope there is more soon.

Cuthalion · 7 February 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

I'm just found this story here, and now I'm sitting on the edge of my chair with shaking hands and... please update soon! Of course I know the story and I also know he will survive, but you have a very artificial way with cliffhangers... Thank you, I love this story and I can't await what happens next!

Bluegrass Elf · 17 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

This is a great story!

Pearl Took · 16 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

As always, there is so much depth in your chapters, in the events and in the characters. You are so good at showing our hobbits as both tender and tough. And I loved the hobbit fare that was served to Aragorn and Glorfindel, lol! And thank you for a Pippin who isn't too childish or vague. Your Pippin is properly young and innocent. Wonderfull!!

fliewatuet · 16 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

I'm really sorry that I am so behind my reviews, but be assured that I am still following your excellent story (and will continue to do so). I loved the way you lifted the tension in this chapter with a hint of humour, namely Glorfindel's and Aragorn's reaction to the rather ... eh ... mushroom-centric (is this a word?) dinner. I could well imagine that one inhabitant of Rivendell or another would get fed up with mushrooms in the near future.

Hai · 15 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

Poor, Merry! I guess that first encounter with the Ringwraiths would be a terrible memory! I liked the little converstaing between Aragorn and Glorfindel, I wonder what did happen to the ninth Rider? Are you going to go into that or leave our minds to dwell on it? Even though it was just in passing I liked the discription of the dwarves! Looking forward to more, thank you!

Author's reply

Hi, Hai! I wanted to answer your question on the ninth Rider. I covered that in "Recovery in Rivendell," around the 31st or 32nd chapter, I think. I have more fun in tying my stories together; pulling an element from RIR into OOAK. Though keeping straight what happens first can be confusing... Thank you!

LKK · 13 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

I don't know how long I can take the suspense of Frodo's illness. Yes, I know Frodo recovers. But even still! You present such a suspenseful, worrying tale that I fear for the ring-bearer even while I know what will ultimately happen. A sure sign of your story-telling abilities. I hope chapter twelve arrives soon! LKK

Lossenchristal · 13 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

Ok, are you just putting it off? I love your story, but will you please finish it! I want to know what happens! But thanks for another good chapter. Looking forward eagerly to the next one!!! -Lossenchristal

Kit5 · 13 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

Certainly a Merry-full chapter, though not a merry one. (sigh) The conversation between a homesick Sam and Merry was heart-tugging; at this point, they thought they had done their part and gotten the Ring to the Elves. Little do they know. Thank you.

Grey Wonderer · 13 January 2004 · Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven

He leaned against his cousin, his anchor in this uncharted sea of Big Folk and unfamiliar things. I love that line! It is so perfect and so descriptive. The rest of the chapter is wonderful, but I kept reading that one line as it paints such a vivid picture in my mind. You have such a way with a phrase!

fliewatuet · 2 January 2004 · Chapter 10: Chapter Ten

I must apologize that I am somewhat slow and sloppy with my reviews, but I am still following your story. That was quite a nightmare you put poor Frodo through, and I dare not think about what he still has to endure until the shard is finally removed. And that Elrond and Gandalf have to use the Ring itself to keep up Frodo's strength is quite strange. On the one hand, it allows the Ring to gain further influence on Frodo. On the other hand, this power of the Ring serves to destroy it, in the long run. My feelings are quite ambivalent with regard to this point of the story, but that's exactly what I enjoy about it. So even the One Ring is not purely evil in this moment. Another point I really enjoyed was Bilbo's remark to Aragorn's explanation of his bruised face;-) Happy New Year, fliewatuet

Pervinca · 31 December 2003 · Chapter 10: Chapter Ten

Oh, wow! Please update soon! I'm on the edge of my seat here! This is such a good idea, because we don't really find out how Frodo's friends coped during that time.

Hai · 30 December 2003 · Chapter 10: Chapter Ten

Eek! Poor Frodo! All those who care for him want to help him and he only saw them in nightmare form! Terrible! I do hope he will be ready for the shard to be removed, surely he will be! Por Bilbo all being angry yet eventually understanding! A cure possibly worse then the disease! Looking forward to finding out how and when that cursed thing is removed! Thank you for filling in some of the gaps with this story! Looking forward to more!

Nilmandra · 30 December 2003 · Chapter 10: Chapter Ten

Gandalf's reaction in the last chapter, and Bilbo's in this are just masterfully done. You capture Bilbo magnificently - he is just like we saw in the books and I swear I can hear Ian Holm saying the words. So practical, so hobbity.
