Sucking a snakebite and cleansing the blood via leeches--two procedures that aren't much used any more, thank heavens, although they have their place, I understand.
Poor Frodo! Now, what is keeping poor Sam?

It was indeed brave of Aragorn to suck the poison out. Only one tiny cut in his mouth would have been enough to poison him, too.
But it was even braver of Merry to offer to do it in his stead. Wow! I love Merry in this story!
And how Boromir obtained those leeches! Oh my!
Last but not least: the cliffhanger! That one really took me by surprise. What on Middle Earth could have happened to Sam and Bill? Knowing you, I'll expect the worst - to be on the safe side ;-)

This is another wonderful chapter. I'm as grossed out by the leeches as Pippin. The mental image of Boromir's arm being covered in them just about did me in,but it was a very brave and noble thing for Boromir to do. As awful as the leeches are, I am glad that Aragorn had the presence of mind to think of using them if they can help Frodo. Now I'm worried about Sam and Bill. What's keeping them?

You know, I don't get much time to read fanfic these days, but I always enjoy your pieces. I've held off reading this one till there were a few chapters to read, because I know how you are with cliffhangers, but you still caught me with one! Argh!
Excellent, exciting story, that keeps the reader glued to the page - and a brave, mature and noble Frodo - just the way I like him! *Grin* The only problem is, now I have to wait for more chapters!

Oh mercy! What an exciting and tense chapter! I loved the way some of the company knew what Aragorn was going to do, and tried to advise against it.
And the description of Boromir gathering the leeches from Pippin's POV was done beautifully--the combination of revulsion at the means, and yet hope that it would work came out so well!

Oh my! And no catching our breath so it seems, with Sam appearing to have perhaps gone missing now.
Dear Pip, for all his discomfort and queasiness he went after Boromir, offered him a hand up. He's doing well! All of them are.
Very well done indeed, Budgie!

This story is so suspenseful. The excitement does not stop. You do a wonderful job of keeping the story moving. Your depiction of the characters is very true to their characters. I was relieved that Frodo had been found, but how will he be saved from the poison? You do intend to save him, I hope. Please?

Dear Budgielover,
This story is awesome. I actually read your stories and write my own on Fanficion.net, but I hoped that if I sent you a message here that I could mentally prod you into writing the next chapter before I cry! This story is so good, and poor Frodo! *hugs Frodo* I hope they can save him. Please write more soon!

Oh NO!!!!
I think I have asked this before, several times. You are not writing an AU story, are you?
If you don't, there will be a way to save Frodo from dying. But I just can't see how! The poison is already in his veins. How to get it out?
I'm just taken with your Merry, trying to protect both, his older and his younger cousin.
And Pippin saving Boromir - just wonderful!

Those water goblins surely are nasty creatures. Are you suggesting that Gollum has become one of them over the years? Well, similar living conditions, long enough time... I guess it's possible.
I love how you portray Boromir. And Legolas. And Gimli, too. But now it's time for the King's hands to become hands of a healer, eh?

No . . . no
He can't die. Nope. Sorry Budgie.
"Gandalf was kneeling in the dirt, tears shining in his eyes, his arms wrapped around something which left mud-caked smears on his robes, but there was nothing in his hold."
Wonderfully said!

Why do I find myself chuckling as I reach the end of the chapter? No, it's not because I'm enjoying Frodo's peril, more that I seemed to hear in the back of my mind a combined chorus of "AUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"
I expect it's the readers who waded through a very visual, tautly written chapter, full of lots of great details.
And would this be a bit of foreshadowing, coming back to bite us when the poison's been dealt with and the reader begins to relax?
But he has other evil things under his command. These will be drawn to the power of the Ring.
(Re-reads mental note to self, written while reading an earlier Budgie story: Never, *never* relax until you see the "complete" sign on the summary and you're reading the final chapter... and even then, you never know...)

Whoa! I hope you are not going to leave us too long with our breaths suspended! Very taut, tense chapter. I liked every part of it. Frodo's trying to escape, being smothered by orcs, Merry's trying to get quickly started on the business of a search, using Sting as a torch, all the wonderful nuances that made this chapter so exciting. Now - I'll not sit quietly and wait.....

I so like that part about being without supper far to long. A little food always helps, but first you must find the hobbit.

Oh, boy, Frodo lost and being crushed by goblins? You sure are rough on Frodo ;) But you always make me fret while reading your stories. They were SO close to each other!! I guess the Ring saved him but now I'm guessing it is going to prove a hinderance to his being found.
I do love the interaction you write for the Fellowship. I especially like how you are transforming Gimli into a "mother hen". It must be odd for him to care so much for the hobbits. But I always wondered about that because of his comments about Pippin at the end of Return of the King, he really does become quite attached I believe, and you show that wonderfully.
I hope they find Frodo soon! He is in for a rough time witht he poison and the hunt just to find hime. Looking forward to more!

“Dead,” the goblin repeated, its voice slowing. “Soon. Very soon. Speared. Spear poisoned. Soon dead.”
Oh my!!!
Not only unconscious and drowning (again) but also poisoned? They will have to very quick to find him still alive.
Somehow I have the feeling that Merry and Gimli make the perfect search party.
And I agree with the others: Merry is great in this chapter!
“He would,” said Merry wearily, but a hint of pride wove through his voice. “Be courteous to orcs, he would. Probably gave them a bow. Ridiculous Baggins.” Abruptly Merry sat down and cradled his head in his arms, his shoulders shaking.
Perfectly written, really!
