Oh dear! Water goblins! Never heard of them before. But if Bilbo knows about them, surely Gandalf does as well! It's just typical of Frodo to treat his enemies respectfully, even if he's nearly unable to manage a bow. But unfortunatley he found out very soon that his captors are only interested in food! I really hope that Aragorn and Boromir will rescue him very soon! Frodo is unarmed, so what should he do against those goblins. Maybe he could use the Ring? But I'm not sure if he would do that!

Whoo hoo! Does happy goblin dance! I just was looking for this tale the other day - wondering if I had missed an update... but no! Here it is. A great chapter too. Boromir and Aragorn swimming to save Frodo. Legolas trying to plan what next. The Hobbits frightened and Frodo in incredible danger. Lots of tension here - thanks so much for the update!

Dreamflower · 4 September 2007 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Oh dear! Poor Frodo! Just meant to be meat on the menu! I do hope that Aragorn and Boromir hurry up--I'm not supposing this bunch of orclets will be planning to waste a lot of time fattening Frodo up! Very wise of Gimli to keep the other hobbits busy--they are not going to be very good at waitning around for long. Hopefully Gandalf can keep them in check. I do hope we find out what happens next soon!

Poor Frodo, ONLY being intended for Goblin supper is not good news !The others are very brave in their rescue attempts.

eiluj · 4 September 2007 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Water-goblins: now *that's* something (technically non-canonical) that I find entirely believable for Middle-earth. [Don't mind me, I've just returned to reading ff.net after an absence of a couple of years -- the general AU-ness has increased by a factor of ten, and ... well, I'd rather not think about it. How wonderful to be here instead, reading the good stuff!] Poor, poor Frodo. Wet, freezing, sick, bleeding ... and about to be eaten! But how very refreshing that *this* batch of Budgie-monsters isn't interested in the Ring.

Lindelea · 4 September 2007 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Ah. Have been waiting for an update to this one. I love your little details, like the black specks in the water, and Aragorn's practicality (They have their uses) and Boromir's (I suggest we ask the last survivor). Ai, poor Frodo, seems to have landed in dire straits, indeed.

grumpy · 29 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Somebody seems to have snatched a hobbit. This will not do, the fellowship is suppose to have four hobbits, not three and a wet one running out of air. Hopefully Frodo does not have to hold his breath much longer.

Queen Galadriel · 26 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

*squirms* Oh, that's a horrible cliff-hanger! Where are they going? Why are they packing up? Who's got Frodo? Is it really Gollum? Somehow I doubt it. Do Gandalf and Aragorn know what/who it is? When are they going to find him?! Anxiously awaiting another chapter... God bless, Galadriel

harrowcat · 26 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

I agree with you that the Company really shouldn't have let Frodo in that water but, as this is pre-Hollin and Moria, how were they to know? I'm one of those silly people who, when I am watching a film and the hero goes underwater, holds her breath in sympathy! Bit difficult when you are reading and have to wait for updates!

Pearl Took · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

You've killed Frodo! Is there any more that can be said? Well, being it's me . . . I don't blame Pippin for being frightened of Gollum. MEWD!

Linda Hoyland · 24 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Poor Frodo! It does indeed sound as if Gollum has caught him. This story is very exciting and I look forward to more.

Andrea · 24 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Wow! You're doing a great job here, Budgielover! Of course Merry would try to accompany Aragorn and Boromir, and Gandalf would stay him. Pippin's guess or better fear that it might have been Gollum is very plausible. Although, I have to agree with Merry. Aragorn said "they"! So, who are they??? I suspect that I have to wait a while until I get an answer to this particular question ;-) And thank you very much for showing also Frodo's point of view in this story. At the moment it is filled with pain! Poor Frodo! But he's Frodo and he won't give up that easily!

Agape4Gondor · 24 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

WOW - where did you find this story? Was it in Tolkien's Unfinished Tales or something? Seriously - you write so very well, and the characters seem so close to Tolkien's, that one would think you 'found' this little tale and were posting it for our edification! Excellent tale - excellent chapter.... NOW - how about saving Frodo so I can go back to a normal life?

Agape4Gondor · 24 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

This was a great chapter! I'm shivering myself! I loved Aragorn and pipe - and what might the Hobbits have done to his weed! Very nice with Gimli 'immovable as a pillar' I love Sam's comparing the boulders to something Bilbo's trolls might do! Nice touch! Good chapter all the way around and the tension built up was great! Can't wait to read the next chapter.

Dreamflower · 24 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

The reactions here are so very true to the characters. I love that Gandalf, along with the other hobbits, cannot take his eyes off the rescue attempt. Merry's attempt to go with them was very much our Merry--and I think only Gandalf could have stayed him. Pippin's worry about Gollum brings out the first thing anyone would think of--good way to do it. Yes, I can see that Gollum would have frightened a young hobbit far more than dragons or trolls. And I love Gimli's practicality here. He's just as worried as everyone else, but he's not going to let him keep from doing what needs doing. Poor Frodo--that glimpse at the end--of course his parents would have been on his mind...

Larner · 23 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Gollum perhaps? Or a grindlylow? (Have I been thinking too much of Harry Potter, I wonder?) Now, will the Men find the opening and be able to pursue him?

Elflingimp · 23 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Ewww! Your descriptions are so realalistic(did I spell that wrong?) I loved the ones about the Hobbits bones, I got a real visual with that one 'come to think of it this whole chapter was very visual!

Lindelea · 23 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

p.s. forgot to say I loved this: Seeing the frightened face tilted back to look up at him, the wizard gently tugged Pippin’s hair in apology. Your characterizations are so deft! Your characters say and do just what I'd think they would. The fact that the pipe still had glowing coals underlines how quickly disaster struck. Whew!

Lindelea · 23 July 2007 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Ok... I was wondering if we'd hear from Frodo, or if we'd simply share the viewpoint of those searching for him. The answer came in the last seconds... though, as I expected, not much of an answer. Hmmm. So much fun to speculate. Who? What? Why? Where? (reminds me of seeing a Stephen King interview, have I ever told you about that? He talked about this story he'd never been able to write, not yet, anyhow. Someone goes into a ladies' room at an airport. A long time later, her husband asks another woman to check on her, to see if she's ok. Neither come out. The husband asks airport security. A female security guard goes in. She never comes out. He said he hadn't figured out where to take the story from there...) Anyhow, it sounds as if you have this firmly in hand. Fastening seat belt and getting ready for the ride.

Lindelea · 23 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

O hurrah, a Budgielover story I've not seen before! You have some gorgeous descriptions and turns of phrase, as always. I particularly liked this one: stone-sewn landscape My goodness! No vegetation, no life in the lake... I should think a Ranger would be more cautious. Augh! Something's taken Frodo! (Shades of the garbage chute monster in the original Star Wars movie... I first began to feel its stirrings when Pippin went after something moving and came up with a stick. "There's something alive in here...!" "Nonsense, kid, it's your imagination...") Looking forward to more! (Hurrah for time for reading!)

Queen Galadriel · 20 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Oh, no! You can't leave them under the water! Where has Frodo gone? He can't still be under there or he'll be dead! *catching breath* The discussion between Boromir and Aragorn of the Hobbits' "secret language" had me laughing. I never thought of that consciously, and at first I was just as baffled as Aragorn. As usual, I love your characterizations, and I cannot wait to see more of this!!! God bless, Galadriel

Elemmírë · 11 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

An onimous beginning for a very onimous setting ... and the Frodo angst begins in chapter ONE!!!! Love it already, Budgie! It's great you're back and writing again! ~Elemmírë~ p.s. I'm very nearly inclined to agree with Eiluj about there being two groups in Middle-earth ...those whom Budgielover has incited to kidnap Frodo Baggins, and those who haven’t -- yet I must add a third group, however, those who love and care for Frodo dearly and wuld sacrifice anything to protect him. :)

Author's reply

And I agree with both of you, Elemmírë. As the writer, I have the enviable position of belonging to all three groups. All this shifting back and forth between mental viewpoints ... my goodness, that explains a lot about my choice of story lines, doesn't it? :D

grumpy · 10 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Oh good another story by you, I love your stories, and look you have already lost a hobbit. Very careless of you. But at least everyone is getting wet, except Gilmi, who is a very smart dwarf.

Author's reply

Hullo, Grumpy! Yes, this story started off faster than I usually do - Frodo being lost/kidnapped/taken in the first chapter. I usually prefer to have more characterization and humor (a.k.a 'relax the reader') before WHAM! But this one just wouldn't wait... heh heh heh

Elflingimp · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Alright! what have you done with Frodo?,you better cough him up right now or else!LOL. Good start to the story will be waiting unpatiently for more!

Author's reply

Hi, Elflingimp! How have you been? Funny you should choose the phraseology 'cough up'... Yes, funny indeed... *grins*

Linda Hoyland · 9 July 2007 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

What a treat to find a new story from you and what an exciting start !

Author's reply

Greetings, Linda! Thank you, and I hope you find the rest of the story equally exciting. This is going to be a fun one ... for me, anyway. Frodo may beg to differ... *grins*
