This was delightful! Another attempt at Sam that you succeeded at, I see. What a cool older brother, to look out for Marigold like that. And my goodness, didn't Pippin's parents teach him how to be polite? Sigh...
Wonderful job, GW!

Thank you! I do love Sam but he worries me when I write him. LOL
As to Pippin's manners? Well, I guess he just hasn't got any just yet. Maybe the Gamgee's should take him in and work on him a bit.

Oh, dearie! That was one of the sweetest stories I ever read.
Beautiful and soooo lovingly written.
I love Frodo how he soothes Marigold, Merry and Pip are priceless and Sam, good old Sam. He's simply a dear!

awww sweet! Pip was adorable here and i couldn't help laughing at him with the "cake, cake, cake" demands lol!
and i loved the last line of having Frodo saying that Sam doesn't know how to be selfish... indeed he doesn't...
And love the comforting Frodo in this too--glad that Sam liked the cake at the end of Marigold's efforts. =)

Thank you for the review and I am very glad you liked it. Pip was a little stinker in this one but he did know what he wanted! LOL And I do think that Sam spends far too much time thinking of others to ever be selfish!

· Chapter 1: Sam's Cake
Hehe, what a delight....I was chuckling and giggling through the whole thing! So Sam had his cake and ate it too? Good for him! Dialogue was marvelous throughout, never too cutesy and totally consistent. And yes, Sam doesn't know how to be selfish...and I positively love that line "Nothing was more interesting then watching someone eat something dreadful." ROFL!!!

Loved this, especially the final line that let us know that Frodo understood what Sam was doing. Thank you!
Author's reply
Yes, even it no one else got the point of it all, Frodo knew what Sam was up to. I think they always understood each other and that is part of what held them together. Thank you for reviewing!

I do so love your hobbits, GW. Merry is priceless and Pip is such a naughty little lad. Bad cake!!! Bwahahahaha!!!
I wonder if Frodo did manage to get all the jam out of Pip's hair? I hope he gave that task to Merry.
Sam is such an adorable hobbit - unselfish and thoughtful, a wonderful brother and friend.
Author's reply
Thank you!
I think Frodo probably had Merry to help with the washing up of Pippin. Now trusting the two of them alone at that point might have been a big mistake. hehehe
There is no one like Sam!

Sam *is* a sweetie, isn't he? I probably went home and had the biggest stomach ache in his life, lol. I just adore Merry and Pippin -- and of course, Frodo, too. This was a lovely story!
Author's reply
So glad you liked it! I wanted a bit of Sam for Gamgeefest and I always worry when I write him. It is good to hear that it turned out right! Thank you!

Hehehehe! Oh, I loved this GW! *hugs tightly* Merry is just his obnoxious self and getting into trouble with everyone, Pippin is so sweet and rude at the same time, Frodo is as always diplomatic, and Sam is just the perfect big brother to eat that awful cake and spare the others from suffering. I bet I know who will be helping Marigold with the cake she'll be making for Frodo. :D It's just perfect! Thank you so much! ;)

I am so glad you enjoyed it. I wanted something with Sam in it for your birthday and I just knew he'd be one of those who was grateful for whatever gifts he might receive and that he wouldn't let anyone upset his little sister! Glad you liked it. Maybe Marigold can bake Merry a cake too. (Without any help.) LOL

“I didn’t do anything!” Merry objected. “Why does everyone always think it’s me when most of the time it’s only Pippin?”
LOL!!! I just love your Merry, Grey Wonderer!
I would have liked to have such a wonderful big brother as Marigold! Instead I was always the big sister (or cousin) ;-) My brother is eight years younger than me, the same age difference as between Merry and Pippin :)
Author's reply
Thank you. Between them, I think little Merry and little Pippin must have been quite a handful. So, were you and your brother this much trouble? LOL Thank you for the lovely review.

This is so funny and sweet. Sam is such a wonderful brother. I hope Frodo is going to be able to get all that jam out of Pippin's hair.
Author's reply
Thank you! I like writing them all as children. I think Frodo will manage but he might want to make Merry help under the circumstances. LOL

*grin*
This is hilarious, GW! Poor Sam! But at least Marigold was happy, and Merry was entertained!
And who knows, perhaps Sam's good example was why Pippin was so careful, years later, to not hurt anyone's feelings when he ate his coming-of-age cake!
Author's reply
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Sam did have a tough time in this one but he was gracious enough to save Frodo when Marigold offered to cut him a slice of the cake! I guess Sam figured that Frodo had enough trouble dealing with Merry and Pippin.
You may be right. Sam might just have set the proper example but Pippin's cake was at least tasty! If it weren't for the jam I think Sam might have been in big trouble! LOL

(pouting) no prologue to comment on!
(breaking into wide grin) I grinned and chortled all the way through this story. Your Merry is a terror, and Pippin seems to be a terror-in-training. LOL!
Frodo took his free hand, the one he wasn’t using to comfort Marigold, and rapped Merry on the top of his head. (and Merry's response! and Merry rapping Pippin on the head!)
And that bit about watching someone eating something disgusting being the most fascinating occupation in the world...
D'y'know, we still talk about the "Great Salt Cake" that resulted when one of the young hobbits locked herself in the kitchen to bake a birthday cake for mum. Reading the recipe (1/2 tsp salt) she said to herself, 'That's not nearly enough!' and so she put, I don't know, a Tablespoon or two? And then to complete the ruin, she made up her own frosting recipe. Since we didn't have enough icing sugar in the pantry she added flour to thicken it. Um...
Author's reply
I was tricksy this time and put the prologue right in the story. Thank you for reading and I love your cake story! That must have been a cake to rival little Marigold's efforts. So were you like Sam or Merry? Did you eat it or did you have enough jam to cover the taste? LOL
I can imagine Hobbits being interested in the eating habits of others and young lads do enjoy something more if it's a bit gross, don't they?

· Chapter 1: Sam's Cake
Now, you make the real birthday cake and you don’t have to worry about spoiling it because you’ve practiced.”
Marigold smiled brightly. “I’ve made all the mistakes in that one!”
How sweet is that! What a diplomat. And speaking of diplomacy and quick thinking...
“Do you want some?” Marigold asked.
Frodo looked as if he might choke but Sam spoke up at that instant. “If you don’t mind, Marigold. I’d like to keep the rest ‘o this fine cake for a snack later on.”
Frodo's right, there isn't a selfish bone in Sam's body. And of course your Merry and Pippin are as delightful as ever. The little rascals.
Author's reply
I don't write Sam often but I do adore him. He had to have been one of the most selfless hobbits in all the Shire. He was loyal to those he loved and I think he must have been a rare friend indeed!
Frodo did do a good job with his diplomacy but he needs to spend some time giving instructions to the rest of his relatives. LOL
So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

“No, no, no, no,” Pippin said shaking his head. He pointed a finger at the cake and said, “Bad, cake!”
This had me laughing out loud. That lad must have a sensitive nose! LOL
Wonderful fun as always, GW :-)
Author's reply
I decided that for once there might just be something that Pippin wouldn't eat. LOL Glad you enjoyed it!
