Such a good story and familylife and how they play off against each other. The way the family and others around them handle things is so good. The incident tirned very serious indeed. This Uruin plant reminds me of a very large plant here in Sweden that can grow several meters high if left alone. Its very magnificent and alluring to Anyone of any age that sees it. Im sure you have it where you live too as its rather common. Its called heracleum mantegazzianum or giant hogweed, bjornloka in Swedish. Its looks draws especially children to touch it with very serious consequenses almost like those of those that Celeborn experiences. Just very little of its juices or a mere touch against its leaves causes burns and blisters of astonishing magnitude and I would not be surprised if a suface toucher by it would also burn skin! Here theyre considered a pestilence and if you see one you should contact local authorities to have it dug up. I saw those outside a preschool nearby and I ferevently hope noone of the kids were hurt by it before it was removed😢😱. My friends 10 yearold son was burned before she saw it on her property.😔 You have reminded me again to keep a lookout for hog weed in these parts which I thank you for and for the awsome story . I love your stories, so wellwritten and warm !best regards from Sweden

I just realized, elves don't ride with saddles, so their prank could never be done. Interesting story though.

Agape4Gondor · 17 February 2008 · Chapter 3: Glorfindel
Good chapter - these two little ones definitely needed a down-dressing! But I was a little shocked at the way Glorfindel did it. One small correction - PJ used the wrong terminology in the movie and perhaps that is where you came up with hannon le - it is really 'le hannon.'
Author's reply
*chuckles* Yes, well...that was the intent! The leap off Aragond was inspired by my own leap from a high bridge (12 meters - or 40 ft - high) into an icy, deep river in Spain. I was traveling with a group on what was intended to be a 'survival, trekking and canyoning' trip, and on our first day we had to learn how to 'jump down properly' into water from a greater height, so as not to land on either belly or other sensitive body parts. For ALL the members of the group involved it took QUITE some overcoming of inner fears before taking that first leap! It was my interpretation that Elves - and elflings - would not experience such a deep (truly, I believe it is in humans biologically programmed) sense of alarm upon registering such a height below oneself. Us humans (in the group) had to overcome not only our fears, but also the body instincts to cling to the bridge even after the mind and heart had found resolve to jump! Building on that interpretation, I felt that with Elves having less 'fear of heights', little elflings would have to learn a lesson or two in being careful. Glorfindel's way to do this might not have been the usual way. :) I saw this as a combination of Glorfindel's inner pixie and the commander's need to thoroughly train his charges. However - I did take the twins being elflings into account. I could not ever imagine Glorfindel doing this with a human child (say Estel). :) Regarding your correction: Thank you! I am glad you were willing to let me know! Hmmm...but from the Sindarin course I used , I had understood that both are possible: 'hannon le' and 'le hannon'. I thought that if using the informal form of 'you' (ce) this would make either 'cen hannon' or 'hannon gen', the c of cen turning into a g as a result of lenition (soft mutation) following a verb. But by all means, I might be wrong! I am only an amateur - hobbyist user of Sindarin. :) Would you be willing to explain in more detail? Thank you for your three reviews! Best wishes, and have a wonderful week! Esteliel

I was quite impressed that Elrond stayes with his sons until the clean-up was completed. I was most impressed that he not only stayed - he helped. Very nice chapter and I like the creativity with the plant's properties.
Author's reply
Thank you! I felt that, not only would Elrond want to make certain the work was done properly. He also would have wanted to support his sons through this arduous task. I believe his intent was not to 'make them feel miserable' for 'punishment', but to teach them through experience just HOW careful you must be with Uruin, and HOW resilient the remnants of Uruin really are, and HOW much of a job it is to remove all remnants of Uruin after a spill. In later life (which, as we all know shall be a long one) neither of the twins will ever be attempted to carelessly wipe the table after the use of Uruin and then assume it 'will be enough'. He also hoped that it would thoroughly convince them of the importance not to spill any Uruin! I believe that their morning spent cleaning the apothecary was a far better way to get this message across, than any spoken words could ever have. Onwards! Author Reply: *snort!* Perhaps make that 'tempted' instead of 'attempted'. :) It's late!
Agape4Gondor · 17 February 2008 · Chapter 1: Uruin
Unfortunately, this sounds exactly like something the young twins would attempt. I don't blame them, sadly, for the temptation would be too much. Elrond should have his hand slapped, however, for not telling the boys all the properties of the plant.
Author's reply
Hi Agape4Gondor! Wow! So glad to see you reading this story and actually taking the time to leave a review for each chapter you read! Thank you! *chuckles* Yes, perhaps Elrond does deserve to have his hand slapped. However, when Glorfindel stormed in, he was mid-sentence to do JUST that! :) He DID tell them not to touch anything. Frankly...should have been enough, eh? Onwards to your next review!

The prank went so terribly awry. So many people hurt, but Elladan and Elrohir only meant to avenge their Daerda! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Author's reply
Hi Mysterious Jedi, Oops! Oh dear, sorry for another late reply. At the moment I feel the same as you: I can't wait to see what happens next. I have an idea, of course, but I still have to write those scenes. ;) Good to hear from you. Thank you for your review! Esteliel
esmeelf · 8 November 2007 · Chapter 10: Reaping What You Sow - Part 2
Hi Esteliel I've just read the whole of this story so far in one go and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I couldn't help but be amused by the mental image of Celeborn sitting in the stream trying to cool his backside! Great writing and lovely characterisations! I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens next. Cheers, Esmeelf

This is really gotten my attention. I am enjoying it very much. I am feeling some apprehension for the twins, but on the one hand they do need to be punished somehow.

Thank you for your review, Idril Celebrindal! Ah yes, the elflings must learn that some things are out of bounds... lol! Have a wonderful day! ~Esteliel
Kitty · 19 October 2007 · Chapter 2: The Task
From the pedagogic POV, the twins had to be punished for their disobedience, but from the emotional one, I still felt sorry for them. I can just imagine how boring lessons with Erestor are in comparison to archery with Glorfindel or one of his warriors! And to wipe the floor in this way *is* boring. But Elrond is right, it was necessary. And now I am so curious what they have in mind!
Author's reply
So true, it really is boring. However, Uruin is a 'dangerous' herb, and apart from punishing his sons, Elrond also meant to instill on them just how risky the spilling of even a tiny bit of Uruin can be. However, I would never wish this on a human child. When I wrote this chapter, I kept in mind that Elladan and Elrohir are elves, which means that they do have a little more patience and endurance than human children. Otherwise the punishment would have been a little severe, don't you agree? ;) Thanks for your review! ~Esteliel
Kitty · 19 October 2007 · Chapter 1: Uruin
Huh, where did you go? When I returned to read the multi-chaptered story, I was rather surprised to see all the stories gone. Glad you uploaded them again. Poor little elflings! Of course they should have listened to their Ada not to touch anything while he was away - and of course they couldn't resist. I can *so* see how fascinating this stuff is for them. Err ... why do I have the feeling Glorfindel could end up with bright red hair?
Author's reply
Glorfindel with red hair? lol! That is an interesting thought! Will it happen...? Just you wait and see! Thanks for the review! I've sent you an email explaining where the stories and I had 'gone' all of the sudden. LOL!
