· Chapter 28: An Unwelcome Visitor
Could it be that Indis has a premonition of the evil Curunir will release over Middle-earth? It would be wise of her to keep him away from Faramir. Already Théoden is falling under his spell. How sad.

Oh. no. Now Saruman will find that his spell is no longer in place, and try to retaliate.

Good grief - you are right. Must keep Faramir away from the nasssty wizard!

She would do better to seek that protection from Mithrandir than from Curunir, of course. Vile thing!
Author's reply
She sent out many messages looking for Mithrandir - and here he is in Imladris waiting for Aragorn! Vile nasty wizard is Curunir....

I can picture Faramir running into Eomunds arms as clearly as though I was standing there! Great chapter! Update soon please!
God Bless!

I could too - astounding how awesome Eomund is - I have definitely fallen in love with the Rohirrim... I'm wondering how much of a part he will have in this tale though... Sadly, I don't think a lot... but the Muse can surprise me -
I didn't see the wizard coming!!!!

So Faramir is restored to his people, come home to Minas Tirith, and who is that lying in wait? If it's Saruman, Indis needs to whisk the kid away before Whitey lays one pale finger on our little Steward. I hope that Saruman isn't hypnotizing Eomund. Ichh. Where's Mithrandir when we need him, eh?
Good chapter; but it looks like there is more danger to come.
Author's reply
I agree with you about hiding Faramir, Raksha! And yes, though I was surprised by the Muse myself, there is more danger to come.
Thanks for continuing to read!

Bless Targon's sweet heart! Cookies! *LOL* :D It didn't say, but I can imagine that they were hot and chewy just in time. The bit about Faramir and the rabbit is very interesting and funny. Last, but not least, so happy to have our little steward home. Your A/N at the end of this chapter is especially heart warming. Love and hugs, Neilia
Author's reply
I know we kind of missed the reuinion with Targon and the cookies, but it was too touching and too sad to relate.... The rabbit - now Faramir was really surprised by the rabbit - but I think that lesson will come in handy when and if he and Aragorn get together in the Spring....
Loves and hugs right back!

Welcome home Faramir. Let the celebration begin. It is sorely needed. Targon would be a wonderful squire for Faramir were he not dedicated to being a cook. That does not mean he could not be a loyal friend.
Tari
Author's reply
You know... when Faramir came back from the Mering... it was a very quiet affair - not too many had known of the dire straits the lad had been through... so it's fun to write a chapter of joy and celebration for the people of Gondor... they really needed one!!!
Targon is hopelessly in love with cooking - he wouldn't leave it for the world... but having a cook for a friend is a good thing - especially if you like his cookies!!!!

I so pray it is Gandalf that is beside Eomund! And all realize that his adventure has benefited the child! Wonderful!
My stepdad's mother was afraid if she told us we were having rabbit we wouldn't eat it--apparently that was true of the cousins. I just thought rabbit was stringy in coparison to chicken, myself. Meat was meat! Bless your mother!
Author's reply
Well, thankfully Sam had no such compunctions about coneys!
Alas, I do not think it is Mithrandir..... but it's great having Eomund back!

Cookies for the returnee! Works for me. Oatmeal raisin is good but chocolate is better. LOL Targon is adorable. He can take over my kitchen anytime he wants. Others might look down on such a friendship between Steward and cook's apprentice but Faramir is smart to make friends with Targon, however lowly his station might be at this point. If your best friend is learning to be a cook, you will never lack for cookies. *grin*
Author's reply
I would LOVE having a cook for a friend.... I don't think Faramir would ever have... or in my tale, will ever have... a problem with 'class' - the boy/man is too humble to think he is 'better' than others... though this could present a problem later on in life...

Faramir is finally going home. I think there might be some serious celebrating in Minas Tirith. This seems to be the beginning of the strong friendship between him and Aragorn. I shall miss the twins, though. They were a big help.

Glad to see Faramir finally reunited with Indis. It was very nerve-wracking, wondering if he would make it back alive.
So what's next for our littlest Steward? Can't wait to find out.
BTW, it's 'peeked'; the other kind has to do with reaching the crest of something. *grin*

Faramir is cute here; a kid's gotta go when he has to go; but he's trying to be very grown-up and he's naturally considerate of others.
And he's finally on his way back home, with some very happy Gondorians.
I hope you write the story of Faramir meeting up with Strider for that special training they planned; that could be a lot of fun.
Author's reply
There's a few scenarios left before we finish this part of the book... I think you'll enjoy...
Happy Gondorians! Doesn't happen to often, does it?

Humor in the midst of battle. That is amazing and probably helped them stay calm and focused. At least I had hoped it would, but still so many were lost.
The dear twins, in spite of the fear of being killed, stopped to help. I would have expected nothing less from them. Now, Faramir can go home (I hope).

And so the lost has nearly been found or should I say brought to the attention of those seeking for him. I'm glad Elrohir was willing to follow Elladan's lead. It will save endless time of traveling with a small child and now the elves and Aragorn can be on their way back home knowing Faramir is safe. Good chapter, Agape. I loved the banter between Valanestel and Borondir. *grin*
Author's reply
Thanks much. I so like writing battles - but this one seemed very different. 'Course, when you have a character like Valanestel, it's pretty easy!
I'm sure Elrohir bit his lip and obeyed. When in the field in the midst of what may be enemies, one must obey the senior warrior and without hesitation.
Glad the Muse finally told me what was happening! I certainly did not want another Orc-infested chapter. Quick and lethal........

Denethor taking the boys camping and fishing is a comforting thought. I prefer to think he was not always harsh with Faramir, but spent happy times with him also.
The twins shine once again, like the stars they are watching. I’m sure Imrahil and Finduilas would have taught Faramir the Elvish names for the stars.
As for Aragorn; he is a typical healer, refusing to admit his wound is not healing.
Tari
Author's reply
The Denethor whom I love loved Faramir - so fishing would definitely be on the agenda... at least once in awhile.
As for the twins, they are special, aren't they!
And Aragorn, as we all must in the face of the truth, will acquiesce to his brothers.

It's a pleasure to see Faramir having such a good time with his new friends. I like the interplay between the Peredhil and the boy and "Strider". It's also an effective counterpoint to the agonies Listowel is suffering due to Faramir's loss. She, and others, are going to be so thrilled to get him back alive and well! (at least I'm assuming alive and well)
Author's reply
Thanks, Raksha. It's nice to find Faramir with friends... Listowel had to finally 'do' something herself. She really could see she was not gaining the respect of her men - and that was the other reason that Indis sent her to Osgiliath. Both still have much to learn.
Grateful for the review!

<<<<“It is past time for bed for this little one,” Aragorn said in Quenya.
“I am not a little one and Anor just set.”
Aragorn looked at the boy in surprise.
“Amma has been teaching me Quenya. I am to be Steward and must know the tongues of the land.”>>>>
I love this exchange - Faramir is most winning (to me) when he shows his strength and grit; and he is showing all that and more here. I've also often thought that as a child Faramir might well have been a bit of a smartass; and that reining him in as a precocious kid would not have always been easy. And that's how he comes across here - a very strong, smart, unusual, kid; but still a kid.
Author's reply
Thanks, Raksha. The boy stood up for himself and I was a bit surprised. The damage done to him during the coup was great. Now that the spell has been lifted, I think his healing will progress at a quicker rate. Especially with two Elves and an erstwhile Ranger to help him.
Thanks for the review!

Awwww. What a sweet chapter, full of warmth and friendship. And, two of my favorite Elves are still in it. Faramir couldn’t be in better hands.
I can just see Aragorn gritting his teeth in frustration. Having to be carries on a litter would be a bit degrading for him. Glad he listened to his older brothers.

Faramir a squire for Aragorn? That sounds like a good idea. He would be even more prepared to be Steward when the time comes.
Aragorn and Elrohir wrestling. I love it.
I hope there is no third wizard. One of Curunir is quite enough. Of course, there is always Sauron (shudder). I certainly hope they find a way to break the spell put on Faramir. He's had so much to deal with in his short life.
Tari
P.S. I posted this comment on your other site too.
Author's reply
I'm pretty sure the spell is now broken. It is up to Indis to figure out how to keep another one from being laid upon anyone in the Citadel. As for Aragorn and Elrohir - I think Aragorn's ankle is going to 'bite' him for this moment of fun....
