Oh Hi, I'm so glad that you have posted. So glad that you let us know about Kaimelas, He is alive! Thanks!!! Good that legolas was able to talk with his father. So sad that he is so ready to sail. I think that his faith in mortals is gone. Hmmm, what about Legoasl and Durfinwen, his new mercer-princess? I don't know why, but I can wait to see the reunion of Tamin and Faramir's son, so many changes had happened. And Legolas and Faramir. IF I recall, Eowyn was expecting..... Thank again for posting and I hope that RL is less caotic. thaks to your betas too.

I can't believe I started this fic two years ago. It's appalling how long it's taking for me to finish it! Real life is just as chaotic as ever, but my heart seems to be settling down. Chapter 33 is at the beta's being prepared, and Chapter 34 is in the works. I am determined to finish this. Thank you for being so faithful, and I apologize for how long it's taking me!

eliza61 · 19 November 2009 · Chapter 32: The Healer

Oh, how sad. What a wonderful interaction between father and son. A rare glimpse into what must be an extrodinary relationship. It is very nice seeing your Thranduil express exactly how a father would be feeling at seeing his child in pain. King or no king. Well done!

Thank you, Eliza! It's with dismay I realized tonight that I posted the first chapter of this fic two years ago. I cannot BELIEVE how long it's taking me to finish it. Rest assured, the next chapter is at the beta's, and I'll post it as soon as I get my go-ahead. Thanks for sticking with me! On to the next!

CandissD · 18 November 2009 · Chapter 32: The Healer

wonderful chapter! Thank you for updating. I loved the chat between Thranduil and Legolas, although it was sad toward the end. Can't wait for another update :)

Thanks for your review, Candiss! It's shameful that it's taken me over two years to get to this point. I think my beta, Nieriel Raina, has it right; we should never post a WIP ... it's too hard on our readers. Chapter 33 is at my beta's and will be posted as soon as she clears it, and I'm working on Chapter 34. Thanks for being such a faithful reader!

This chapter almost makes the long wait for this story to finally meet it's conclusion. Although I haven't been leaving reviews I have been paying attention. Hi Niri, it has been far too long since I heard from you, but I digress. I too hope you do something about the possible paring of Legolas and the new discovered princess. Your amazing talent keeps growing, and I sense we are close to a wrap up of this wonderful story.

Naledi · 18 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

I was so happy to see another chapter of this wonderful tale. I just loved the moment where Thranduil suddenly senses Legolas. The reunion was touching. Finally there's someone here that Legolas doesn't have to be strong in front of.

Calenlass Greenleaf · 17 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

I haven't forgotten this story. I just...erm, haven't reviewed? Anyway, I'm still following this, and I like what you're doing with it. :) ~Cal

Nieriel Raina · 17 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

Ahem... *taps microphone* Is this thing on? Oh, good. You already know how much I LOVE this chapter. The ending was perfect, I adored seeing Glóin riding behind Thranduil mirroring Legolas and Gimli, and the developments with Bard are very interesting. And you certainly know how I feel about Legolas/Durfinwen. *pokes your muse* However, comma, I do believe there is something very obviously left out of this. WHAT ABOUT KAIMELAS????? *glares at Le Rouret* *taps fingers* *points at desk* Next chapter, here, ASAP! *g* Thank you for another splendid chapter, meldis! NiRi

ninqwestilmen · 16 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

I don't leave reviews as often as I ought to, but the thought of Gloin taking hold of Thranduil on a racing steed was just too delightful to let pass without letting you know how much I appreciated, and enjoyed, the shock and sheer audacity of such a senario. *snicker* :D

Calenharn · 16 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

Almost forgot! Orcrist! DUH - I should have known. Beautifully done. Great to see the Dwarves' excitement over it...

Calenharn · 16 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

At last! ;) While Legolas seems to be correct in his estimation of Bard's fear of Thranduil, it fortuitously seems that Bard himself (all unknowing) may have done Legolas and Tamin a favor here. He (and his Council) can scarcely complain about Tamin's actions re Renna given his command to torch Esgaroth. (Unless he/they have it in their head(s) that by sheer dint of her "royal personage" Renna is worth more than the town and people of Esgaroth put together - a loathsome concept which I hope Thranduil and Thorin promptly stomp on if it raises its head.) Poor Tamin! He has certainly lost innocence during the course of this (mis)adventure. He has also, however (as Legolas observes), become "a strong and tenacious young fellow", one with a great passion for justice (or, at least, a great passion to see Evil defeated and punished). His willingness to take the responsibility for Renna's death was very adult. He is going to make a fabulous knight - if he lives so long! Poor Legolas, too. He has had so much to deal with, and through it all has had to be strong and hold both himself and his little group together. (The burdens of leadership...) Once there were others to share the mundane responsibilities (food, shelter, etc.) and to deal with the sticky issues of war and justice, his griefs (at least, the grief over Bandobras) became like raging water bursting through the crack in the dam. Thankfully Thranduil is there to support and comfort him. (At the minimum, he can give him some respite - and hopefully keep Meivel away until Legolas can evenhandedly deal with him!) Now (joining the clamor) - what about Kaimelas?!!!

CandissD · 16 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

Well worth the wait! I love this story and oh, poor Thranduil finding out at the end that Bandy was not with them! Please update when you can!

Fantasia · 15 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

I'll second the previuos review, your story has helped me in bad times, so I hopre that it helps ypu as well. I really love this story and loyally wait for an update. You can add me to the listof the people that want to marry Durfinwen and Legolas. So Maivel is there, but you are very cruek and didn't tell us Kaimelas fate. So I suppose that Ithilien elves are there too. Is Faramir there? Poor Tamin, he has become a man, I mean an elf. Thanks

annajane · 15 September 2009 · Chapter 31: Fathers and Sons

Oh, how I love this story. I don't even mind waiting for updates (much). It's just so good. I am sorry that whatever is going on in your life ... is. Hope it provides some cheer to know that when things are going badly at this end, your writing is one of the things that takes me away from it. Many thanks, always.

Naledi · 6 August 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

As much as Renna deserved to die I can't help being concerned that it was Tamin who took her life. He was such an innocent I'm sure it's going to come back to haunt him. I'm glad to see Durfinwen is showing signs of accepting her heritage though. Wonderful chapter as ever. I'm sorry to hear real life has not been kind. I hope things get better soon.

eucalyptus · 4 August 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

To Shlain: When Durfinwen says, And I – wretch that I am! I was his beloved – I, I! But he was not mine – not mine.” ...she is saying that while Belias loved her, she did not love him. And when she says, "In vain did I tell her I was but your mercer and you but my lord; that we had never lain together, despite the one who desired me most" ...she is saying that Renna came to believe Durfinwen was Legolas' beloved (and vice versa), even though Durfinwen denied it and said she and Legolas had never lain together, despite Belias' affection for her. This is why Renna stole Durfinwen's hair and dress and wore them herself. She believed it would help her gain Legolas' affections. I think I've got that right. Perhaps someone else can jump in if I've got it wrong?

eucalyptus · 4 August 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

Oh my word. Well, before I forget, I hope everything is okay, Rouret. It is wonderful that you share your talents with us but I would hope we wouldn't put pressure on you to update when you have more pressing things to deal with. Most of us have followed you long enough to know that isn't your nature to abandon a story you're writing, so I trusted you'd be back sooner or later. So, I was all set to gush over the Legolas/Durfinwen-ness of this chapter, but then Tamin killed Renna(!). And I guess I can't get over it quite like. It is deeply sad to see him lose the light which made him so special. There might not be a lot of sympathy for Renna, but you can't help but wonder what this might mean for Tamin too, given that he has become in some ways the opposite of what he was when we first met him. It's terribly tragic. Perhaps he has gone too far the other way. Thank you for the update, and for yet another exciting and unexpected turn of events. I am very much looking forward to the next update.

Shlain · 4 August 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

PS: I'm still against the Legolas/Durfinwen romance. She loves Belias and eventhough he is dead his soul now waits to be reborn in the Undying Lands. It would seem so unfaithfull and as though her love was shallow. I'm up for a Durfinwen/Belias reunion in the Undying Lands. Maybe a short little story like the lieutenant and the huntsmistress, mmm? Keep up the great writing.

Shlain · 4 August 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

I'm a little confused. I understand that Durfinwen and Belias were beloveds but what does she mean. Did Durfinwen and Belias "lay" together? Is that what she meant or did Renna use her power to convince Belias to lay with her? And what did Durfinwen mean when she said Belias was never hers; that she loved him but he not her? I may just be reading things wrong. Can anyone help me out here? And to Le Rouret on the tough time she is going through: Dont worry for this too shall pass.

Jay of Lasgalen · 31 July 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

Ohh ... I'd glad that Renna's dead, but not that it was Tamin who killed her - I think this will come back to haunt him. And why has he kept the dragon's fang? What is he going to do with it? I liked the false password - what a clever idea!

Fantasia · 31 July 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

Le Rouret, glad that you are back; I've forever waiting for your update. First, I hope that whatever is wrong in you life has been resolved. I have to laugh about your muse watching "Whose line is it anyway? I often watch the show when I'm down... Well, you really don't disappoint, this was a great chapter. At the beginning I was glad that Durfinwen seemed partially recovered, the same with Legolas and Tamin, love the fight between them, I'm with Ve's father, are we sure that Renna was not right about those two? For a moment I was thinking that Tamin was too enamored of her and the dwarves, what a bunch of delightful gallant knights are they, precisely what she needed...Let me stop a moment and mourn Belias, poor Belias, loyal to the very end... And then, Renna is in the picture, what a terrible set back, I suppose that is good for them to confront her, but that was awful....Tamin just did what I'm sure I could have done, too much stress and grief for someone so young to handle, but I only think that his innocence is forever lost and no a Little One anymore, such is the price of war... Durfinwen or Anorien? That is the question...so she is royalty.... Thanks to your beta and I don't need to tell you how much I wait and anticipate your updates...just for the records even if at this point it doesn't matter anymore, this is certainly not a "romantic tale", I want Durfinwen and Legolas together... Thank you

CandissD · 31 July 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

A great chapter! Thank you for updating! :)

Cerencae · 30 July 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

"Facinorous hedgehog"--I like it, too. I don't even know how to review this chapter; it is just so fantastic. I love how you take us through such high and low emotions in every chapter. The contrasts between the little jokes and the absolutely horrifying events of the story are just glorious. Speaking of contrasts, I love that, while the story is wrapping up and heading toward its conclusion, Legolas is more out of control than ever. He can't help Durfinwen, he's still far away from Erebor, the plot was apparently way more complicated than he thought (Ushtak! and Renna!), and Tamin--Oh Tamin!--has had a bit of a breakdown. That was heartbreaking by the way, but beautiful. Anyway, my heart is overflowing with joy from this wonderful, fabulous, amazing update.

Calenharn · 30 July 2009 · Chapter 30: The Hundred

Whoa. Just.... Whoa. What a contrast between Malbeach and Renna. (I was somewhat surprised that they didn't at least pile some stones upon Malbeach... his grief/guilt/repentance seemed to have warranted more than just leaving him to rot - that is not an action that I would have ever expected from Elves. (Yeah, they were hungry/exhausted/beaten/grieved - but they managed for Bandobras.)) Renna was absolutely vile. Poor Dúrfinwen... She was doing so much better, and now I have to fear that Renna's vile (there's that word again - can't find one better) threats will bring it all back fresh to her memory again. Not to mention the chance that the audience of Dwarves heard... *cringe* Poor Tamin, too; innocence lost. I hope nobody has any stupid ideas of punishing Tamin for this... Justice was served even if the protocols weren't followed. And I have to fear for Legolas' sake - he seems to think that Kaimelas is doing fine as (val)ambassador. I hope that when he meets up with the Elves, that Kaimelas is still among the living; poor Legolas really has had horror upon horror piled up (and is no doubt blaming himself for Tamin's actions, in addition to Bandobras' death), and I hate to think of the added burden he would bear with blaming himself for Kaimelas' (possible? probable?) death. Best wishes for things to improve in your personal situation, and thank you for updating.

still love this story...but when are you going to update? please don't abandon this story it is to good

Author's reply

Don't worry - I haven't abandoned this story! I'm going through a "personal crisis" right now, and finding it difficult to focus. The next chapter is in the queue! Thank you for your patience.

rick · 2 June 2009 · Chapter 29: Justice and Mercy In Like Measure

I have enjoyed the entire excellent story so far & sure wish you would write faster & finish it because I feel like I'm clinging to the cliff by my fingernails! Keep up the good work.
