Armariel · 21 September 2010 · Chapter 1: "Meant To Be"

Very cute story! Like the unexpected point of view. ~~~~{~@

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Armariel! I'm glad you enjoyed the story of Tulip's "birth". She is rather bossy and insisted on telling it from her point of view. ;-)

Virtuella · 5 May 2010 · Chapter 21: A Dragon Tale

A most interesting and insightful account of the origin of dragons! "He killed the snake to examine how it was made." This simple sentence expresses powerfully what's wrong with the likes of Morgoth.

Virtuella · 5 May 2010 · Chapter 22: The Light

This is beautifully done, the way the past and present are woven together.

Antane · 3 February 2010 · Chapter 22: The Light

What a lovely story! Love esp. Manwe's words to the Mariner about Sam and the the last sentence the most. That was neat! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Antane, for reading and commenting on this story! :-) I like the last bit a lot myself. I think Earendil would be pleased that he is still helping those who battle evil in Middle-earth.

Larner · 1 February 2010 · Chapter 22: The Light

Again, such a beautiful moment as Earendil and Sam share that moment of renewed hope, and Sam finds it in him to pass on the strength it renewed in himself to Frodo for the next day's weary journey. Lovely!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Larner. :-) I put a lot of research into this because I do not know the Silmarillion at all. I have owned it for many years but have only read it twice and didn't get much out of it either time. It's encouraging to know my research paid off.

Baggins Babe · 3 November 2009 · Chapter 21: A Dragon Tale

Poor dragons, twisted and infected by Morgoth. I feel quite sorry for them. Yew is a very hobbity dragon now and I think he is fond of Pippin and his family (restraining himself from roasting the cat must have taken a lot of control). I still think an AU story in which Paladin brings out the family dragon to deal with the ruffians would be a winner! ;-) A lovely look at the origins of the fire-drakes, Pearl.

Andrea · 2 November 2009 · Chapter 21: A Dragon Tale

So, although Morgoth had only the darkest intentions when he created the Dragons, he made a grave mistake. And the Dragons were able to reproduce far away from the control of the Dark One and retain at least a few good "lizard qualities". It's like in "Jurassic Park": Nature always finds a way! As for Yew being a hobbity dragon: I think you're right :-)

6336 · 31 October 2009 · Chapter 20: A Stone's Throw

I can understand Pippins frustration at being teased so unmercifully, but I do think he let his frustration go a bit too far! Makes you wonder how the Quest would have gone with only 7 Walkers, or did Elrond send a couple more elves or dwarfs along? Would Boromir have survived at Amon Hen, who roused the Ents, was Eoywin able to defeat the Witch King on her own, did Faramir survive? Inquiring minds want to know! Lynda

Author's reply

Oh my! I'm afraid you'll just have to wonder. I have no intention of rewriting the entire story of LOTR in an AU without my dear Merry and Pippin. :-) This was just a wee response to what I took as a challenge to write "the impossible" Merry and Pippin story. I'm glad it got you thinking, Lynda, and thank you so much for reading and commenting! :-)

Larner · 31 October 2009 · Chapter 21: A Dragon Tale

So, this one was tucked in earlier in the series. Almost missed it here. Interesting to read the history of dragons told by a young dragon himself. And Yew appears to have taken on characteristics of the family that has taken him in. Most interesting!

Author's reply

My mistake on the chapter listing. Making it the correct number totally went by me. I'm so glad you enjoyed this, Larner. :-) Yes, I do think Yew is becoming a rather Hobbity dragon. LOL

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 30 October 2009 · Chapter 21: A Dragon Tale

Hi Pearl, Lovely new story! I enjoyed this look at Yew and his ancestors. Well done! (I'm sorry I can't be more eloquent, but it's getting late and I need bed. I appreciated being able to get to this for my bedtime story though! *grin* Oh, by the way, just wondering why this is numbered as a second Chapter One instead of at the end of the chapter list?) Well done, I loved the story! More Yew soon please! Kaylee

Author's reply

Thank you, Kaylee! I'll at least be finishing up the main Yew story. If there will be anymore after that . . . I have no idea. Someone else pointed the chapter thing out and I've fixed it. Thank you for finding this anyway.

Larner · 30 October 2009 · Chapter 20: A Stone's Throw

So chilling--and plausible! And how horrible Merry created the mocking rhyme! And no wonder Pippin was never the same! Poor children, both of them!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner. This is the sort of thing that does happen, a child does something that they don't realize can injure or kill their friend. This would have been a tragic event for everyone, so I'm glad it is totally AU.

Lindelea · 20 August 2009

What fun! Thanks for the footnotes, too.

Author's reply

Thank you and you're welcome, Lindelea. :-) I'm moving this out of Pearl's Pearls because it is going multi-chapter.

Larner · 20 August 2009

And we eagerly await the next chapter! Come, Muse--do your work!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) I'm moving this to my regular story list as it's going muti-chapter. See you there!

PIppinfan1988 · 8 February 2009 · Chapter 19: Changes

This is a lovely story -- and without realising it, there's a lot actually going on inside this tale. Each is seeing the poem from his own perspective and how it fits into the puzzle of time, or better yet, *their* time. I rather liked Pippin's; his perspective would often lead him back home, to the simple and beloved things closest to his heart. And yet each one's perspective had hope. I liked that. :-)

Author's reply

Thank you, m'dear Pippinfan :-) I'm so glad you enjoyed this. It was one of those fun stories that just came to me in one piece. Thank you for reading it :-)

Andrea · 7 February 2009 · Chapter 20: A Stone's Throw

My god, what a tragedy! But from my point of view, this is absolutely in-character. I'm just glad that this never happened :)

Author's reply

I'm glad it didn't as well, Andrea! Thank you for reading and I'm glad you felt it was in character :-)

Garnet Took · 6 February 2009 · Chapter 20: A Stone's Throw

This gave me cold chills. What a devistating AU.

Author's reply

Thank you for being brave and reading this, Garnet. It would have been horrible indeed.

Larner · 6 February 2009 · Chapter 20: A Stone's Throw

Ah--indeed a sad AU, and especially knowing neither of these will be going with Frodo when the time comes! Fascinating might-have-been!

Author's reply

Thank you for reading this Larner. So many things could have happened, but hopefully not so extreme.

Larner · 29 January 2009 · Chapter 19: Changes

I love this realization of the changes going on in the world as seen by these three within Fangorn! Peaceful, thoughtful, curious but for the moment passively accepting until all reports are in and action is needed. And Pippin is beginning to truly see the world through the eyes of others, and appreciate other points of view, I think. Love it!

Author's reply

Thank you so much Larner :-) The Hobbits had a lot of time to contemplate what had been happening to them, and others, while they were on their way to Treebeard's home. And, of course, Ents are usually long, slow thinkers anyway. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

eiluj · 28 January 2009 · Chapter 19: Changes

I liked how Treebeard realizes the so-young hobbits yet have a certain racial age to them -- and trust him to recognize their earthiness! Meanwhile practical Merry determinedly counts trees to keep the dark possibilities from his mind. And Pip luxuriates in a series of reassureing and quintessentially hobbity memories of home -- and simply refuses to consider any dark future.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, eiluj :-) I found myself drawn into the song and the setting and this was what came out. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Andrea · 10 January 2009 · Chapter 18: A Simple Task Gone Awry

“Using ‘bloody’ again, sir?” LOL!!! Somehow I like a swearing Ringbearer! Maybe it's because he seldom looses his temper. And I liked Gandalf here! He would make a good Sherlock Holmes ;-) Thank you for posting!

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and responding, Andrea :-) I like a Frodo with a bit of grit, I'm glad you did too. I agree about Gandalf.

Sunny · 10 January 2009 · Chapter 18: A Simple Task Gone Awry

"Then I will retire to my chambers with a novice level book of instruction in doing proper examinations of patients." *giggles* Usually, when Aragorn is depicted doing something healerly, he tends to be described as the second best Healer ever. The best, of course, being Elrond. Seeing him screw up is, ahem, unusual. :-)

Author's reply

Very true, but no one is perfect. If Frodo isn't, Aragorn needn't be either. ;-) I'm glad you enjoyed the story, Sunny!

Larner · 10 January 2009 · Chapter 18: A Simple Task Gone Awry

I love this--shades of trying to put a simple bench together! Heh! Poor Frodo--not precisely the handyhobbit here, between lack of experience and missing a finger!

Author's reply

I'm sure the missing finger didn't help. I think most of us see him as not very handy with tools, other than the ones used for writing ;-) Thank you, Larner!

Larner · 10 January 2009 · Chapter 17: Yule-Tide in Beorn's Hall

I so love the thought of Bilbo watching the changes made in Beorn's customs and hall. And the gifts are so perfect! Go, Bilbo!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner :-) Hobbits love gift giving, as we all know. I figured Bilbo wouldn't pass up an opportunity like that one.

Larner · 21 November 2008 · Chapter 16: A Lesson in the Library

No, one cannot run away from oneself, and so Pippin will find. Joyous to read this again. And Pippin doesn't realize he's met a bit of family history here! Heh! His own adventure proved a good experience for him--for the most part. I'm glad Mr. Boffin suggested that Pippin's would come when its time was right.

Celeritas · 20 November 2008 · Chapter 16: A Lesson in the Library

Fun stuff, incorporating both recent and distant Tookish history (though now I have to wonder just why Basso left)! And I was tickled that I was able to catch just who Pippin's visitor was! ~Celeritas

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed it, Celeritas :-) Good for you for catching that!
