And being someone who lives for libraries (and bookstores), I can totally agree with the last sentiment. LOL Lovely little vingnette, Shirebound. Love the deviousness of Lord Elrond. He is more than a healer of hröar but of fëar as well. I bet he purposely brought books written in Westron just so Bilbo could open his school. I suspect some of the elves who sailed with the Hobbits and know Westron will end up becoming teachers themselves with Bilbo as the headmaster and Frodo as the librarian asking the 'students' if they have a library card. LOL Looking forward to seeing these tales continue.
Author's reply
Thank you, Fiondil. Healing takes place on many levels, and Elrond had a lot of time to contemplate this trip West and its consequences -- not just on the hobbits, but on the residents to whom these small folk would be quite unusual neighbors.

LOVELY! I love old books, libraries and elves, so what a wonderful combination! I also appreciate that Elrond was thoughtful enough to allow Bilbo and Frodo to keep the books nearby, they need the attention.
Thank you for this delightful scene.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Gershwhen. Aren't old books lovely? I hope future generations will continue to appreciate them.

Perfect therapy for Frodo Baggins--giving him a library to guard and parcel out! Ah, how delightful!
Author's reply
I think he and Bilbo could be quite content in a situation like this. :)

“Doing your best is all anyone can do, ever in their lives,” Elrond said gently. “I see you are learning this most difficult of all lessons.”
Wonderful! I'm glad that Frodo is finally learning that particular lesson :)
And I would like to see Bilbo teaching the Elves Westron. That would be funny, indeed.
Author's reply
I think that would be one of the biggest lessons for him. :)

More, more, more! I've had to tear up my library ticket since discovering LOTR Fandom. The fines got too much!
Author's reply
Glad you enjoyed this, harrowcat! :)

I love it when a fic shows the lighter, more sparkly side of Elrond, instead of the more usual presentation of dignified ancient wisdom. He is wise, but there is such joy and caring in the way he goes about bringing the hobbits into the life and society of their new home. (Perhaps he's been affected by his association with hobbits!)
Author's reply
Perhaps he has been! After all, Bilbo had been living in his House for many years. I suspect that Elrond's joy in being reunited with his wife (and possibly being able to reunite with his mother) must have had a lightening effect on his spirit.

What a wonderful notion - Bilbo and Frodo as Elrond's librarians on Tol Eressea!
Author's reply
Thank you. Once this idea took hold of me, it just wouldn't let go. :)

Greetings Shirebound,
I can just picture all those lovely elves lounging about on the lawn reading. A very good strategy, Master Elrond. A wonderful tale, this. Can I get a library card?
Blessings,
Alassiel
Author's reply
I can picture it, too. I like to think of the coming of mortals to the West as a positive experience for everyone. :)
