That was beautiful.

Many thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Oh, this is beautiful. I love the way Imrahil guides Legolas to the right conclusion even if Legolas wants to deny it. It is a painful self examination for Legolas, and I credit Imrahil's skill in getting Legolas to the right point without antagonizing him.

Thank you so very much for the review, and I'm glad you liked the direction the story took. I figured it would work better to have Legolas come to his own realization rather than having Imrahil spell it out for him. It would mean more to Legolas that way. And Imrahil strikes me as too much of a politician to come out directly to a fellow ruler and explain exactly where he went wrong. This way seemed more effective all around, so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks again!

Really lovely tale. I loved Imrahil's 'voice' - and I would love to think that Legolas - now that he has made his decision, might 'gift' his little craft to one of the children of Dol Amroth, for no ship should just sit in a cradle.

Many thanks for the review, and I'm glad you liked Imrahil. He's easily one of my favorite characters, so I'm glad he came across in a way that others enjoyed him, too. As for the fate of Legolas's boat...who knows? I hadn't given it much thought, to be honest. I'm pretty sure he's going to take her out at least once, but after that, I don't know that I had envisioned anything. Possibly Imrahil will find it a good captain. :)

Redheredh · 4 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

it was Imrahil that drew me to this story, actually. He is one of my favorite characters, and you did him proud in a pointedly short piece. How appropriate to have an elvish prince of the sea enlighten a elven prince of the wood! I liked that very much. :) I can see where Legolas, after his remark in lotr about the Prince's heritage, would listen harder to Imrahil than most mortal sailors. And, Imrahil's connections to Amroth gave him a basis to illuminate his observations, which Legolas could fortunately connect to. I liked that very much too. :) However, one of the best things is your writing itself. It makes a good scene, interesting situation, and clever plot even more enjoyable to read. You did your usual talented job. I liked that very much, and look forward to more. :D ...about Imrahil that is... ;)

Author's reply

Hey Redheredh, Oh, it's very good to hear from a fellow Imrahil fan, and even better to get your feedback on him. I'm grateful that you approved of his characterization, so thank you very much for those comments! And I'm grateful that you felt there was backing in canon to support a discussion like this. It's one of the reasons I made this the setting that it was, but just because I think there's canon basis doesn't mean that there actually is. I tend to read things into it that sometimes aren't there. :) Anyway, thank you so much for the kind review! I really appreciate it!

elliska · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

I really enjoyed the depth of characterization that you accomplished in a short dialogue, the reference to Amroth and Nimrodel and the interaction between Imrahil, Legolas and the sea-longing here. Very enjoyable!

Author's reply

Many thanks, Elliska! I'm glad you enjoyed the characterization, as it was definitely a driving force in writing this story. It's always good to know that one of the reasons you write the fic ends up being something that others enjoy, too. Then it really feels worthwhile. So thank you again, and I'm thrilled you enjoyed it!

docmon · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

The final product looks terrific! I really like this conversation between Legolas and Imrahil. And I particularly like the character of Imrahil. So intriguing, I want to know more about him! (no, no, that's not a nuzgul... shoo!) docmon

Author's reply

Hey! Who said you could go nuzgul siccing!? Bad Docmon. Very, very bad! Anyway, if the final product looks good, it's because of you. So really, all these reviews are yours, too. Thanks!

Naledi · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

I loved the way that Imrahil used the boat to bring Legolas to a deeper understanding of his conflicting desires. I particularly liked his reference to Amroth's fate, especialy as it was Legolas himself who told that tale to the fellowship.

Author's reply

Hey Naledi, First of all, thanks for the review, and I'm thrilled you liked the inclusion of Amroth's story. I've got a soft spot in my heart for him and the parallel between his stay/go mentality with Legolas's own desires was too much for me to resist. Especially, as you said, since it was Legolas who shared Nimrodel's story with the Fellowship. Thank you again!

ellie · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

Beautiful! Wonderful story and lesson for Legolas to learn. I think it's great that Imrahil is the one who teaches it.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for the review, Ellie! I've always been drawn to the tragedy of Amroth and Nimrodel. Couldn't tell you why, I just have. And this seemed like a good place to it to make an appearance, so I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks again!

meckinock · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

A nice exploration of Legolas's struggle to reconcile where is is and where he is going. I really liked the portrayal of Imrahil here. He's such an intriguing character, and you've really made him come to life. The sea, too, was a well-developed character here. Beautifully done.

Author's reply

Hey Meckinock, Huge thanks for the compliments about Imrahil's character. There were a couple of factors driving this story to completion, and he was definitely one of them. I've always been intrigued by him as a character, and I wanted to get it out in the open a bit more. So I'm VERY glad you liked the characterization. Coming from one of the great characterization authors, that's quite the compliment! Oh, and the sea, too! Bonus compliment. You've made my day!

Gwynhyffar · 2 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

I really enjoyed this. Imrahil showed his wisdom of more than just the sea in his talk with Legolas. Well done.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for the review, and I'm glad you appreciated Imrahil's wisdom. His few appearances in RotK portray him as a pretty good sounding board as well as a prudent ruler, so I hoped to bring some of that across in this story. It's good to know that it worked. Thanks again!

Larner · 1 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

I had wondered why Legolas was having this talk with Imrahil, as he wouldn't have sailed until many years after Imrahil's death; now I understand, and I love the moral drawn from the story of Amroth and Nimrodel. How very true.

Author's reply

Hey Larner, Actually, I was wondering why Legolas was having this talk, too. :) One of the driving points for the story was the fact that I wanted some one-on-one conversation with Imrahil from an outside perspective, and Legolas felt like a good foil to me. And by the end of the first draft, I had some nice dialogue but it never actually went anywhere. So I was asking myself the same you were wondering. Thankfully, I think it has a point now, and I'm glad to see you found something in it to make it worthwhile. Thank you very much for the review!

Jay of Lasgalen · 1 March 2008 · Chapter 1: Seaworthy

I'm so glad to see you're still writing! Legolas's emotions are so complex here - his instinct to follow the call of the gulls warring with his desire to stay with his friends. It seems sad that his work over the last five years is for nothing if the ship is not seaworthy - but perhaps he has learned a far more important lesson. And we know he will build a ship and sail eventually. **Cough** How about an update on 'Fear No Darkness'? I still want to know about Elrohir! Jay

Author's reply

**Offers cold remedy for suspicious cough** Hey Jay, First of all, thank you for the review. I'm glad you caught the complexity of the emotions. I wasn't sure if that was going to come across or not. And I wasn't entirely sure that the point to the whole thing was clear, so it was good to hear it in your review, too. As for other WIPs...well, I promise I haven't given up on them. But I keep jumping from one to the other and I'm having trouble building momentum on any one of them. I'm leery of posting new chapters right now until I can get several ready and then post in reasonably quick succession. So I'm working on it! But it might be a while...
