That was an interesting start. Sador is becoming good in being diplomatic. He is even able to lead other elves who are older (if only a bit) and animating them to be more tolerant. But I was a bit surpises at Mardillë´s reaction concerning the clothes of the Tol Eressean elves.
I wonder how long Morcocáno will sleep on the couch for his behaviour. Nelluin looks like she has a lot of control over her husband. At least as she is in hearing range.
Author's reply
Hi Hel. Sador is becoming quite the diplomat and will prove an asset to Finrod and Arafinwë when his training is completed. Mardillë may simply be a bit snobbish in comparison to her sister. We all have our little failings and none of us, even the best of us, is perfect in every little way. But at least she, unlike some, is willing to be taught differently, hence her re-examining the embroidery on Alphedis' gown and appreciating it for its beauty and complexity even if it isn't something that would have been done by an Amanaian embroideress.
I imagine Morcocáno will be sleeping on the couch for a night or two at least. *grin* Some husbands never learn.

Very interesting that the Reborn can identify other Reborn. I wonder how Arafinwe will use this info later. Sador is very sweet to go and talk to the other Reborn who were stnading around uncomfortable in the crowd. I like the lessons he is trying to teach to Rumilion(sp?) and his cousins.
Morrocano is just plain not nice, is he? I love it that he is afraid of his wife and meekly follows her out of the party. She sure put him in his place. ha! Can't wait to see what happens next!
Author's reply
I have no idea if Arafinwë will use this info later, Ellie, but hopefully he will use it wisely if he does. It's interesting how a minor character can take over a story even peripherally. Sador was never meant to be anything more than a foil against Glorfindel but he crept into my soul (and everyone else's), very much like young Vorondil. Now he's as real to me as Glorfindel or Finrod, perhaps more so because he came out of my own creative spirit whereas Glorfindel and Finrod and the other canon characters are borrowed.
Morcocáno is a piece of work, that's for sure, but we will see him in a better light later on. He's not all bad, just tortured.

It was nice how Sador got his fiends together with the Reborn, Definitely shows promise as a diplomat!
It certainly didn’t take Morcocáno long to start making trouble! Good that Nelluin was there to stop him - even though he had evidently tried to order her to stay in Avallonë.
Morcocáno will clearly have to make a real effort in order to get off the couch and back into Nelluin's good graces. Yet even so, I think that she will want to keep her husband on a very short leash from now on. ;-)
Author's reply
Sador has been taking lessons from Finrod, that's for sure, Sunny. *grin*
Morcocáno is just one of those people, but that's not to say he doesn't have his good points. We may even see some of them along the way. Nelluin is nobody's fool and is wise to her husband's ways. I'm sure she will indeed want to keep him a short leash, at least for the time being.

Why some are so insistent on being troublemakers no matter what the circumstances and the warnings to behave I don't know, but I've certainly met enough of them in real life!
Sador does do well to seek his reassurance privately.
Author's reply
Some people are born troublemakers I think, Larner, and I've certainly met enough of them in real life as well.
Sador has been remarkably mature through much of this story, but he is still young enough to crave reassurance every once in a while. Actually, I think we all crave that, no matter our age. A pity that there aren't enough people like Arafinwë in our own lives to give us the reassurances that we need.

Let's hope Nelluin can keep Morcocano under control, that ellon is trouble, both he and the other like minded members of the delegation. I would be very surprised if the Valar do not have a couple of Mair on him and his fellows, they won't stand any nonsense either!
Atar Arafinwe knows just what to say dosen't he, Sador is still so very young after all.
Lynda
Author's reply
We'll see about Morcocáno in future chapters, Lynda, but he's not the only elf who's likely to cause trouble, just the most visible (and vocal). Arafinwë is an atar after all, having raised four elflings already, so he's sensitive to how elflings and near-elflings feel. Sador is indeed very young in many, many ways, even though technically speaking he is considered an adult, so he needs the occasional reassurance from someone sympathetic to his situation and Arafinwë is the logical choice.

That the Gathering will be interesting I have no doubt. But one is wondering what catastrophe happens this time.
The joining of the elves of Angobel and from the farming comunities was surprising. As was the number of the members per delegation.
The idea that Arafinwë,Ingwë and Olwë preside together over the council is good, as none of them can lead a delegation but need to be involved as initiators. And in this position they can also lean back an watch.
I´m very curious what the next chapters will bring.
Author's reply
As for any catastrophe, Hel, you'll just have to wait and see. *grin* As for the number of delegates... well they didn't want to be outnumbered by the Valar. I'm sure that the three kings will be more than benchwarmers in this council. I doubt if they will take a back seat entirely. Too much is at stake. The next chapters will hopefully prove exciting reading for all. Thanks for commenting, Hel. I appreciate it.

A single typo (that I'm sure you meant to change, just forgot).
"Vandacalimë leaned passed her husband and gave her son’s arm a gentle squeeze. "We have every faith in you, yonya," she said with a smile. "
I suspect that you actually meant "past" instead of "passed".

I expect the upcoming council to prove interesting.
I look forward to reading about the communities that decided to join with the Angrobel community - if they are "supposed to" be looking to one of the towns for representation, and why they feel that they are better off to form a delegation with the miners.
I also suspect that the Reborn Council will come as a surprise to the other delegates. And I also suspect it is likely that at least _some_ will see it as at least an insult. Morcocáno who instigated all the trouble in Avallonë comes to mind.
Seeing just how the Reborn Council will impact on the conference should also prove interesting.
No bets about who that weird group sharing the boat with the Nandor is!! :-D
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Hopefully readers will indeed find the Council interesting. There are a few twists and turns in the story that I hope will prove surprising to many. The Reborn will certainly play a significant role in the Council and of course Morcocáno will cause trouble, though it won't be entirely his fault. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. Fiondil, I was just thinking if the elves living in Elwing and Earendil community should not be there as well. I know that hey are very isolated, but they are in Valinor after all.

Hi Fantasia. Thanks very much for letting me know how much you love my story. I really appreciate it. While it is true that Eärendil and Elwing's community is a part of Valinor, they are not a part of Tol Eressëa and that is the main focus of the Council. However, that is not to say that they might not have a role to play in all this. Time will tell.

One thing struck me about this: "Sorondil and Oromendil are always coming back with wet tunics." Does that mean the other elflings don't get to play with, I mean help with the therapy of the Reborn? I am sure they want to get in on the fun as well!
Author's reply
Well, we know that Lindorillë is acting as Finrod's secretary and eventually she will become his squire, though he will not accept the Life Oath from her. Eruanna and Veryandur I think are considered too young to *safely* interact with the Reborn in the same manner as the two ellyn. Not that they and Lindorillë don't 'play' with them, but they are not part of the 'therapy' aspect. You will recall that Sorondil and Oromendil were orignally thrown in with the Reborn on the recommendation of Master Meneldil as part of their own therapy after the shock of seeing Finrod disappearing. Eruanna ended up taking embroidery lessons from Elindis and then continued them with Indis and I think she will eventually gravitate towards being a student of Vairë rather than Irmo and Estë. Veryandur is often playing in the dirt, I mean, working in the herb gardens so I think he will eventually grativate towards being a more traditional healer or perhaps becoming a student of Yavanna or her sister, growing and cutivating the medicinal herbs needed in Lórien while not necessarily having any direct dealings with those who are Reborn or come to Lórien for whatever healing they need.

Now Vorondil knows who are his family and that the young elf is his nephew. The development was faster than I thought it would be. But as he still not really remembers his family the coming out of the whole truth is postponed.
I like the idea of Vorondil becoming a scout in the new lands.
Author's reply
Hi, Hel. The development only seems fast because you are seeing it occuring in a week's time in real time but in story time several weeks have actually passed while Vorondil Jr is healing and regaining his strength. Also, Finrod seems to think that sooner is better than later for what they all know is inevitable. And you are correct that the whole truth has only been postponed. Hopefully, by the time that happens Vondo will feel more secure with his family and they will be able to help him accept what is.

Oh, this was just so lovely! :) Uncle Vondo still has a long way to go, and, unfortunately, some rather unpleasant revelations to come in his future, but it was great getting to see this first true reunion.
It occurs to me that his inability to remember Calalindale might be a true mercy, really. (And I admit that I'm a tad curious to know how she is doing in her apprenticeship... and if she will ever allow the rage and hate that caused her to damage young Vorondil's fea the way she did to eventually leave her.)
And I liked that little revelation of Findarato's, about the South being gradually opened to the elves of Aman to explore and eventually settle.
Thanks for giving me reason to smile this morning. Well done!
Author's reply
I'm glad you found this to be a lovely chapter, Rhyselle, and a reason to make you smile. Vondo does indeed have a way to go and everyone else is holding their breaths over what he learns about Calalindalë. I don't know if she is redeemable. The Valar haven't told me. I suspect that she's undergoing intense counseling with Nienna as well. The Valar do not give up on the Children easily. Look how many chances they gave Fëanor.
The idea that the southern reaches of the continent will be opened to the elves to explore and colonize is something that was mentioned in passing before but obviously Finrod is already planning ahead and possibly recruiting those who will be in the vanguard of the exploration. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Finrod wants to be at the head of the first expeditionary force. *grin*
Thanks for taking the time to review, Rhyselle. I greatly appreciate it.

· Chapter 118: Uncle Vondo
So now vondo as been introduced to his family, and I must say I think it went rather well. It was rather smart of Finrod to engineer that introduction via Vorondil and the elflings – with attendant elflingish reactions and remarks. And Narmolle, who gets lent to a new person. And it is very clear that Veryandur is going to be a loriennildo when he grows up :-)
I suspect Vondo has already realized that there is trouble in the family – the only explanation he has gotten so far is Finrod’s “it’s complicated”. And I think nobody is going to be in a hurry to say much more on the subject any time soon. He will have to find out about things eventually, but hopefully the inevitable storms won’t be too bad.
"But you’re not _my_ Uncle Vorondil." A wonderful little quip!
I did sniffle a bit over the ending of the chapter.
Author's reply
Yes, Finrod was being rather sneaky and clever to have the revelation come from the elflings rather than from the adults. Vondo's own emotional immaturity makes it easier for him to relate to the elflings more than to the adults. While he may be emotionally immature yet, Vondo isn't stupid, so he obviously knows he's not being told everything and that has to rankle, but he also knows that some things he needs to remember on his own... or not. When and if he learns about Calalindalë it is hoped that the love he has for his nephew and his brother will help him get through whatever sense of anger and/or betrayal he might feel, if he feels these at all.
Glad you liked Finrod's little quip. He knows just what to say and when to say it.
I think you're right about Veryandur. He'll make a very good Lóriennildo.
Thanks for reviewing, Sunny. I greatly appreciate it.

Well that is Vorondil Sr. taken care of, he has met his nephew, has an idea of what he wants to do with his life and he has met the rest of his family, quite a lot of things have happened. Time for dinner!
Strikes me that Lorien can be quite soggy at times, Este must have an endless supply of hankies up her sleeve or in her bra or tucked up the leg of her knickers!
An enjoyable chapter, a good way to begin the weekend.

So, Vorondil doesn't think he will do anything elflingish, does he? Those are big words for a Reborn who still hasn’t reached his maturity. Why don’t I believe him?
I don’t think he was quite ready to find out he has a nephew. Will this speed up his recovery, or slow it down? Questions, questions, questions. I guess we’ll have to wait until next week for the answers.
Author's reply
Actually, you'll find out the answers to your questions sooner than that, Tari, as I post a new chapter on Mondays and Fridays. Finding out he has a nephew when he doesn't even remember that he has a family will be traumatic but I think Vorondil Sr will adjust quickly enough. The Reborn are forced to adjust to so many different situations as they learn to integrate themselves back into elven society, that it becomes second-natured for them.

I finally had the time to catch up in this story. My reminders went back to the beginning of 2009. I have to say I loved to be able to read so many chapters in a few sittings. Now that I have caught up, I have to wait for each new installment like everyone else ;) and to top it off, I managed to have kind of a cliffhanger as the last released chapter.
So the two Vorondil's met, and I want to know how this plays out. What is the purpose of the meeting? Vorondil the older is clearly not ready for the outside world. By seeing him together with Vorondil the younger, I get a real feeling for how difficult it must be for the families of the Reborn to welcome them back into the family. They are Reborn and at first nothing like the people they knew before they lost them.
Author's reply
Hi obsidianj. Glad you were finally able to catch up with your reading. Sorry about the cliffhanger but as I post twice a week, you won't have too long of a wait. *grin*
We'll see how the reunion with Vorondil Sr and his family plays out in the next chapter. I am glad you are able to see just what a difficult time the Reborn have in being accepted back into their families when they are not quite who they were before they died.
