Hi Fiondil,
Sorry I havn't been reviewing lately R.L. has been a bit hectic.
I feel for Glorfi, I used to get motion sickness as a youngster plus I suffer from 'good old fashioned sick headaches'(direct quote from my Dr.!) so I know just how he feels, you just want it to end!
Hm, so he now has a companion, just who or what is he, not what he appears to be that is certain!
Gee what an original name for a dog!
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi, Lynda. Don't worry. I quite understand about RL. I'm glad you were able to find the time to leave this review. As to who (or what) Mánatamir is for real will be revealed eventually. He may be exactly who he says he is, though. And hey! Cundu may not be original but it's a good name none the less, far more original than Vorondil's horse being named Rocco. *LOL* Thanks for reviewing, Lynda. I appreciate it very much.

Here I am Atar Fiondil! It has been too long *hugs* I've been reading all along I promise, it's just that I've had ick computer problems/lots of school issues making reviewing difficult.
YAY Glorfi is going to find his answers! But who is this ellon with a dog? *suspicious* My money is on him NOT being a real ellon at all. Orome perhaps? Ulmo? Hm. He did say Ulmo. Maybe he was teasing Glorfi. Or, or or!!! *giggles* Maybe...maybe he's /Earendil/ in disguise! yes! after all, he's a mariner. Why not? And who else would know how to find Elwing's tower?
...'kay, maybe I'm too hyper to make sense. *lol* but I was just thinking that maybe it might make some sense. After all, with Glorfi usually the most insane things happen so why not that?
(I know, I know, as a Teler he'd look nothing like Earendil, but that's why I said a disguise. Or TILION! yes a Maia, why not. :) Hee, I'm starting to sound like I used to when I first reviewed your fics. *lol* sorry for the insane hyper-ness.)
(Oh and I hear you're back states-side now! how are you doing???)
Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta, Atar Fiondil.
Kaylee
Author's reply
Hi, Kaylee. Well, as to who Glorfindel's companion truly is, that remains to be seen and of course I refuse to say either way if any of your guesses are corect. *grin*
I'm glad you are still reading and enjoying this. Review when you can and don't sweat it.

I feel so sorry for Glorfy with his seasickness. I guess elves aren't invincible are they?
I am very curious about his new friend. I think it is a maia or a Vala in disguise and it seems he may suspect such a thing as well. At least the guy is good with fire on wet days. That could be handy! And a traveling companion could be just what Glorfy needs right now. Of course you are going to make us wait and see...
Author's reply
No, they're not invincible, Ellie, and a hero without some flaw is rather boring, isn't he? *grin*
As to who Mánatamir is in truth, whether an Elf or Ainu, we will find out soon enough and I promise not to make you wait too long. *grin*

So Glorfindel isn’t a sailor. Fair enough – there must be _something_ at which he is abysmal. But I hope he won’t stay _quite_ so hopeless in a boat. Or else there might develop an AU where Glorfy can’t stand the idea of tossing his cookies all the way to Ennor.
But we all know he _did_ cross over, so I suspect he will have thoroughly stocked up on ginger in various forms before his voyage ;-)
The first Interesting Thing has happened – Glorfindel has acquired a sidekick for his journey north. I assume he is really an Elf – while the Valar are likely to keep close tabs on him still, any Maia watchers are probably more likely to float around unclad. Then again, given the Valar and their interest in him, I suppose anything is possible...
Author's reply
Well, he wasn't seasick crossing the Bay of Eldamar or sailing around Tol Eressëa the way Beleg was, so I suspect that as long as there's no major rocking of the ship he's fine. *grin*
As to Glorfindel's new traveling companion... we'll learn more about him in future chapters.

Privacy is a nice thing but those two overdo it a bit. I wonder what the reasons for this hiding is. They must be really good the Valar aid them that much.
I ask myself if Earendil remembers Glorfindel from his childhood in Gondolin and his death at the flight? And if he is glad to see him again?
Author's reply
As to why Eärendil and Elwing desire privacy and how Eärendil will react to seeing Glorfindel again will be revealed in later chapters. First though, the ellon has to actually *find* them. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Hel. I much appreciate it.

Huh. “We don’t know exactly where the tower is located.” And the conditions imposed on those who went there to build the tower.
It makes me wonder just who was behind those conditions - and why. Whether it was Eärendil and Elwing who wanted to protect their privacy, or the Valar who decided on it for their own reasons.
It also makes me wonder just how interesting the journey north is going to be.
Author's reply
As to who was behind the conditions... that may (or may not) be revealed in time but I suspect that Eärendil and Elwing truly wished for privacy and the Valar helped them to achieve it. And as for Glorfindel... just how interesting the journey north will be remains to be seen.

· Chapter 95: Glorfindel in Alqualondë
So, did the following mean that Manwe asked the Lindar not to go or did it mean that, even though invited, the Lindar did not attend? I'm sleep deprived so sorry for a stupid question.
"Certainly when the Light went out and the Calacirya darkened it was a frightening experience for us all, for none of us went to Ilmarin at Lord Manwë’s behest, so we were unaware until well after the fact of what occurred..."
Poor Glorfy just doesn't get any breaks, does he? Of rouse he has to go to a hidden place and who knows how long it will take him to get there...not fair.
I wish the Valar would just tell the poor guy what he wants to know, but I guess it's journey and not the destination, huh? I fear a long and lonely time for him.
Author's reply
According to the Silmarillion, when Manwë invited the Eldar to a feast of thanksgiving five years after Fëanor's exile in the hope of healing the breach among the princes of the Noldor, the Lindar, having no thought for the doings of the mainlanders, could not be bothered to attend, thus when the Trees died and the Light went out, they had no idea what happened until much later.
Indeed, the journey is more important than the destination and it is how we journey that shapes our character. As to how long and lonely the journey will be for Glorfindel... that remains to be seen.

So they all have their own plans and projects after the council is postponed. Hopefully not for good.
I wonder if Glorfindel gets the answers he seeks or if the answers he finds will be what he imagined them to be. I fear he will be a bit disapointed in the end.
Varda´s reaction to holding the council in Ilmarien was . . . interesting.
But I think if she orders them to clean their shoes before entering, they will shurely follow the order. But nice to know how much the Valar meddle with the lives of the elves again.
Author's reply
The council will go forward, I think, though perhaps not in the way it was first envisioned. We'll have to see. Whether Glorfindel gets the answers he seeks also remains to be seen. And I'm sure no one in his right mind would argue with the Queen of Stars about wiping their feet on the door mat unless they truly have a death wish, in which case, Námo will no doubt be happy to reserve them a room in Mandos. *LOL* Thanks for reviewing, Hel. I greatly appreciate it.

Isn't it sad that some of the Elves on Tol Eressëa are so hard hearted. They really did it this time. Who knows what will happen to them next; they might even experience a visit from some of the Valar. That would shake them up a bit.
Author's reply
Yes, it's very sad. Unfortunately, Elves have very long memories. As to what will happen next, that remains to be seen but a visit from some of the Valar isn't outside the realm of possibility.

· Chapter 94: Going Separate Ways
So Glorfindel is finally going to find answers, or at least some. Good. And I was glad the others took his plans as they did; I was a bit worried they would protest, and he would not have taken that well.
Finrod did a great job as big brother, but I guess Arafinwë is right; Glorfindel is growing up, and Finrod has probably to adjust to that change in their relationship. Though now I am wondering what the poor ellon will say when he finally learns that Glorfindel will return to Middle-earth. Somehow I think Finrod will not be happy, even if he has had some centuries with his gwador until then.
Varda's reaction to the idea of the council held in Ilmarin or Valmar left me laughing. Most of these children are adults, after all. And tracking mud all over the place *snort* First, that's unlikely, and second, it would take only a second for the Valar or Maiar to remove that, so what's the problem?
Like the idea of inviting the people of Angobel, council or no :-)
Author's reply
Well, they did protest at first but they knew they couldn't keep him from going if he was set on doing so. He won't find all his answers but he may find some of them.
As to how Finrod will react when he learns what the Valar want of Glorfindel... that remains to be seen. Unfortunately, I'm not sure he will take the news very well. He's had this dream of never being separated from Glorfindel again and we all know that that dream will not become reality for a very long time.
Varda is being Varda here. She likes things nice and neat and having a bunch of Elves messing up the place just doesn't appeal to her. She'll come around eventually, though. *grin*

A nice time of transition here. Yes, Glorfindel returns to his own, as do the others. And Varda complains about possible mud? Heh!

Yes, this is definitely a transitional chapter for everyone now that the Royal Progress is over and Glorfindel is ready to strike out on his own to seek answers to his questions while everyone else gets back to their own lives. We'll see how it all turns out eventually.

And now I understand that life in Alqualondë - and ponts further north - is going to get interesting. ;-)
Varda sounds like a collector with a house full of the most delicate china and crystal, who is asked to be hostess for a preschooler's birthday party (lots of little kids on a sugar high - merely imagining it is exhausting!)

I hope Glorfindel will find some of the answers he needs, he won't get all of them, just enough for him to have more!
Why is Varda getting her knickers in a twist over the Children having their Council at Ilmarin, I don't think a lot of the Council members would be comfortable having it there. Valmar is a possibility or how about Lorien, don't think that would go down too well with Este though!
I think they should pick a spot in the middle of the Calacyra and hold it there, the watch Mair should be able to keep them under control!
Lynda
Author's reply
What Glorfindel may or may not find remains to be seen, of course, but I think he will find enough to satisfy him for a little while.
As for Varda's objection to having the Elves in Ilmarin or Valmar for their council... in my short story "All the Tides of the World", Manwë reflects on his spouse's obsession for clean floors, an obsession he has never understood and wisely does not try to. Just one of those quirky things.... *grin*

Hm ... it rankles that they have to leave in secret, though I have to agree that it's the sensible way. The danger of more trouble when crossing through the city would be too big. So, in the end, I was glad all went smoothly and they got on board and out of the harbour without any problems. I just hope Thorongoron will understand. It's not his fault that things went so bad, after all.
Really look forward to know how things will proceed from here!
Author's reply
Hi, Kitty. Hopefully Thorongorn will understand and things will work out. I'm sure it rankled with many that they had to, in a sense, sneek away, but at least it all worked out. As to how things will proceed from here... that, of course, remains to be seen.

· Chapter 92: To Keep Estel
Well, I had known the Elves can be devious, but not *that* devious! Never thought the Kings had that planned out. You've totally surprised me, Fiondil! After thinking it over, it might work, yes. Or at least I hope it does.
While the people in Avallónë and Kortirion need a wake-up-call (or at least most of them), I am glad the Kings are willing to act differently about Tavrobel, Angobel and the Nandor who have proven to be mostly more sensible. While removing some of them to the mainland, it would probably not solve the problem with all of the others. So I hope they will come to their senses. Even more so as these common Elves with Ailinwë appear to be much more nice; I was glad they were allowed in.
Ailinwë's story was touching. It must have been a comfort to Finrod to know that he even under these circumstances gave hope to the other prisoners in Tol Sirion. Hearing it from Námo is one thing, but to learn of this sort of experience is another matter altogether and probably much more impressive.
Author's reply
I can't believe I missed responding to this review of yours, Kitty. Sorry about that. I hope there aren't any more such, it's very embarrassing.
Anyway,I will merely state that all you say about this chapter is true, especially Ailinwë's story. It was something that Finrod (and others) needed to hear.

Clever means of escape they came up with. Things were getting way out of hand. I just feel sorry for Thorongorn. I hope Finrod did get a message out to him so he'd understand. An interesting chapter, but I see the potential for future issues with the so-called leadership of Kortirion--and, sadder, a possibility that Thorongon being put in a position where, if he truly does feel betrayed by the Amanian trick, to where he will be less supportive of Finrod. I would hope that friendship would prove stronger than politics, but... we'll see. Too bad that Finrod wasn't able to at least leave a note with Meriel to give to Thorongon, letting him know that it wasn't meant to be a personal affront.
My laptop is still in the shop, so my reviews will continue to be dependent on getting onto someone else's machine, but I had to let you know that I was very pleased to get to read the new chapter!
Author's reply
Hi, Rhyselle. I'm glad you are able to get online occasionally I and hope you get your laptop back soon. Hopefully Thorongorn will not feel betrayed, though no doubt he feels hurt. Finrod did, of course, write a note to be given to him by Meril (that's never explicitly stated but it did happen) explaining what was happening and why. Hopefully that will make things better between them. We will have to wait and see what happens next.

Forgot to mention that I really liked the story Finrod was told about the influence his song of power had on the other captives. It had to have made him feel that his suffering and his feeble attempts at standing up against Sauron were worth it and brought some amount of good. I also think that news had to have had an impact on those Amanians around him. Finrod is such a cool elf... I'm glad you showed him some well-deserved gratitude.

· Chapter 89: Table Talk
I have to agree with the Elves as far as children are concerned. I believe they are a gift from God for however long either the parents or the child lives.
No one person can "possess" another, no matter how much they might want to.
I believe Galahdwen's attitude is merely a protective sheild. She does not want to be seen as vulnerable.
Author's reply
I agree about the children. I like the Elves' attitude in the way they speak about family members as having been added to them by Eru. If more humans had that attitude maybe the level of child abuse would drop.
I think Galadhwen's attitude is indeed a protective shield. She epitomizes, I think, that Simon and Garfunkel song 'I am a rock'.

Oh, sneaky, very sneaky! I wonder if the people of Avallone knew just what Morocano was up to when he 'attacked'?
It seems the people of Kortiron are not of the same mind as their leaders, just who elects who in the town councils and guilds?
Perhaps the Kings should look to the population as a whole, of Tol Eressea for the members of the council and not just the, so called, leaders?
Hope this makes sense, still a little sleepy, didn't get in until very early this morning, inventory! Retail, ah, what a life!
