I know that stupidity knows no boundaries, and there are always some people who are ready to proof this fact. If they know how deep in trouble they really are? And the goal they try to reach with the kidnapping is a bit of a mystery to me. If I must guess, they want to get the Amanians to leave. But they can´t be that stupid to think this will work. Even if they don´t know about Lord Irmo´s command to Laurendil and Manwen to return and the ensuing maiar, it must be clear to them that the local officials will help the delegtion.
But the Maiar are a nice extra. I guess there were a lot of volunteers after the request was out. They sound very eager for a little action. As does Glorfindel and some others.
And I don´t doubt that Eönwë is very busy at the moment. One can only hope that no-one says something he regrets later.
Finrod is absolutely right about the waiting being the hardest part. And it does apply to a lot situations in live. Waiting for up-dates for example.
Author's reply
Hi Hel. We will see in the next couple of chapters just who the kidnappers are, what they hoped to gain from the kidnapping and why. I am glad you like the Maiar here. Yes, I imagine there were several arm-wrestling matches and coin flips all over Aman when the call went out. *lol* Anyway, an update is on its way and may even be there by the time you read this. Thanks for reviewing. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to let me know what you think of the story so far.

Hi Fiondil,
The pot is almost too thick to stir right now!
I think that Glorfindel's question to the Maiar might be insolent yet it is also pertinent to the situation--you never quite know what their presence bodes. But direct, yes. He knows them well enough by now. I suppose in other circumstances he might be willing to practice all proprieties, but not now!
Thanks Fiondil. I'm glad I'll know--soon--what happens next!
Joanne
Author's reply
Hi Joanne. Yes, Glorfindel is indeed insolent, but he's on familiar terms with most of these Maiar, haivng spent many weeks being trained by them, so he allows himself a tad more familiarity towards them than other elves. And you will see what happens sooner than you think. Now that we at least have the house computer back online (still waiting on the wireless so I can use my own laptop), I will be able to post stories at my leisure and not all at once.

The plot has been thickening steadily since the progress set foot on Tol Eressëa, but in this chapter it just about curdles...
Assault and kidnapping is definitely not a smart thing to do in the vicinity of people like Finrod and Glorfindel. Even more so when you kidnap friends of theirs. And when one of the kidnapped is a pregnant elleth ... nope, I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes for all the tea in China.
So Finrod is going to show them the ... error of their ways. (Imagine that spoken in a properly doom-laden voice)
And since Irmo evidently likes his people getting kidnapped about as much as Finrod does, and arranged for reinforcements ... yes, I am definitely looking forward to the next chapter(s).
I suspect that the ones who are going to have to explain themselves to Námo may well be getting the better part of the bargain, since I expect nobody – from Manwë on down – will approve of those who want to bring war to the West.
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. I definitely don't want to be in the kidnappers' shoes myself when Finrod and company finally take them. However, things are never quite so cut and dried where elves are concerned. We will learn in the next couple of chapters what is really going on.

This is getting so good. (Rubs hands together) I can't wait to find out what happens next. Seeing two Maiar on each end of the ravine will blow the captures minds. They are so in trouble. Good for Alassiel, the shield maiden of the elves.

Waiting is always the hardest part. And now to learn what this group thinks it wants! What a thing to do--to take a group of unarmed folk, one ill, from their rest! Gaack! And am glad these warriors were sent along with them! This will be a surprise for the kidnappers.

Indeed, Larner. We will learn what it is all about in the next couple of chapters. Not everything is as it seems on Tol Eressea.

Hi, Fiondil,
I'm behind on my reviewing again but I have been really enjoying the direction this story is going. This chapter, I understand exactly what Finrod means at the end about the hardest part - WAITING for the next chapter (or the ambush!). Please keep up the good work.

Thanks Rick. I'm glad you're still enjoying the story and like the direction it is going. Hopefully I will not disappoint.

Laeglîr’s people remind me of the Hobbits; caught up in their own little world with not a care of what goes on beyond their borders.
So they think their progress is moving along nicely, do they? Why do I have a hard time believing this? I just know someone is going to throw a “monkey wrench” into their plans.
Author's reply
Hmm.... I never thought of that, but I think you're correct that they do have a hobbity outlook on life. As for the "monkey wrench"... one monkey wrench coming up. *LOL*

Just what do these people think they are doing?! They hadn't better hurt Manwen, or the baby, or a lot of people, including a few Valar are going to be very unhappy with them!
Yae for Mair being there when you need them, even fighting on incarnates terms they are still very impressive! Lets hope they don't break the baddies too much during the ambush, though I am sure they want to pound some of them into the ground!

Atar Fiondil,
Well it looks like the rumors have come true; Laurendil and Manwen have been kidnapped, just not by the Amanians. And they're not the only ones to be taken either! Glorfi and the Maiar will be most useful here, and of course so will Finrod, Alassiel, and all the others they took with them.
Now, if those other elves start killing anyone or even pretending to, they will regret it...Actually no matter what they do they will regret it, there's Maiar after them and a bunch of angry royal or almost royal elves *grin* So they're doomed *shakes head at them* What did they think they were doing, kidnapping Laurendil and Manwen "back" from the Amanians? And death threats if they were followed? Oh, sure, the Feanturi and the other Valar will take that really well. Not. *wry look* So...what happened next? Oh wait, that's for next week...*sighs* Well, I hope my lecture test goes well today, I got a 95 on yesterday's vocabulary so we'll see! :)

Hi Fiondil,
Well, the intrigue continues.
It seems to me that the Progress is walking through a hornet's nest no matter what they do or don't do. There are too many factions with their own agenda for this to be a truly safe venture, albeit many of the parties may be persuaded to open up a bit to some of the other groups of elves. I'll be waiting anxiously to see how you resolve this part of the story.
I'm still hankering to know what's going on in Glorfindel's head. He's doing a good job of keeping Sador out of trouble--and quite a chore that's proving to be. But we don't hear much from him, and I'm sure he's making some sort of plan for after the Progress. Of course, who would he confide in? Grrr...but I really do have a lot of patience, and the suspense keeps me reading! *grin*
Yes, things have been a bit too quiet. I can feel a slow smolder starting within Morcocáno. Only time will tell, I know! I just hope nothing, and no one, is irrevocably broken...
Thanks Fiondil!
Joanne
Author's reply
Hi Joanne. GLorfindel is keeping things close to his chest for the nonce, knowing that the Progress takes precedence over personal agendas, but as soon as it is over with (and that will be soon enough) he will break away to do his own thing for a while. At any rate, we will see shortly what sort of hornet's nest the Amanians have actually walked into.

Well, what I can possibly say? Although, in my own way, I did give Ingwe and Arafinwe the benefit of a doubt. "lol" You know, I cannot pretend to be trustworthy about those matters, I'm already too "prejudiced", to say so, for that. But...me and my obsessions aside, some thoughts like the ones I expressed are very like to arise in the minds of the Tol Eresseans. And rightly so, in my opinion.
I completely agree with the fact that Elves are not humans and they shouldn't be treated as such. Still, the Amanians' rights to interfere and to help the inhabitants of Tol Eressea should be earned, in my opinion, not to be taken for granted. Yes, even the initiative to help, from my point of view. Because it was a time when help from the mainland was sorely needed by the newcomers and I really don't know whether they received it or not. If they truly were left to fend for themselves as the poor (and tainted) relatives, then we have a problem and I don't think the race would make any difference in this case.
This time, I do not accuse either Ingwe or Arafinwe (I wouldn't have had any compunction to say it loud and clear), I merely say that it may be a volcano simmering below the surface on Tol Eressea. And perhaps, not entirely without reason.
I'm still expecting to be proved wrong and, in the meantime, I would prepare myself for a memorable review. Guess why? "lol"
Author's reply
Actually your points are well taken and probably close to what happened. Why there was no help offered in the beginning or if the help was offered, why it was rejected, is something that will need to be addressed eventually. I think the fact that there was a lack of clear leadership among the islanders have made the situation fuzzy, to say the least. I get the impression that it was only when Laurendil came there and saw what was happening that he decided to take charge of the situation, hence the embassy and from that all else has flowed. Even Sador said that Tol Eressea was an explosion waiting to happen, and so you are not too far wrong there. Just what kind of explosion and in which direction remains to be seen.

As usual, I have a few not-so-pleasant comments in regard to everyone’s favorite Elves.
“He is High King of All the Elves, after all.” After all, indeed. “lol”
“Yet, Tol Eressëa is considered a part of Eldamar.”
Well, someone could say to Ingwion that his father choses to act like the High King of All Elves only when it suits him. Likewise, Arafinwe might be suspected of having a personal agenda since he’s just remembered that Tol Eressëa is a part of Eldamar . One might ask why they didn’t come to say things like those in the beginning, when they set foot on an empty island to be treated like pest. Indeed, they weren’t supposed to infect the oh-so-pure inhabitants of Aman with their …presence. Hallowed land, that’s it.
I surely can understand Morcocáno’s point of view. They have built for themselves a home and a lifestyle without anyone’s help (or I am mistaken? Did someone from Aman help them or they had to fend for themselves? If so, my apologies. If not….”frustrated sigh” For a reason, I cannot give them their proper medicine. All of it, I mean) and now some Amanians think they have the right to interfere only because they’re called Noldoran or Lindaran. It doesn’t work that way, in my opinion. And…why do I have the feeling that the things would soon blow up? Very soon. Well, if the author agrees, “lol”, the sooner, the better, in my view.
Author's reply
Well Sitara, you don't seem willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt or an even break. *LOL* I won't defend either Ingwe or Arafinwe. Elves work on a different level from Mortals and their priorities are different. At any rate, you are correct that things are going to blow up very soon and in an unexpected direction. *evil grin* So, stay tune!

Oh, dear... Here Morcocáno has invited the Amanian kings (and their entourage) over to wine and dine them, as well as the very top skimmings of Society in Avallóne (to witness him wining and dining the Kings, of course), and here he doesn’t get anything back for it!!
The Kings – and the other _real_ notables from the mainland – squander their attention on nonentities, while _Morcocáno_ has to put up with being seated across from the unimportant Sador.
Then there are gatecrashers – who are then invited to join the festivities by the Guests of Honor!!
Let us hope his wounded pride doesn’t turn Morcocáno into an enemy. (And the Amanians’ dismissal of Avallóne as the possible future capital would certainly not help with that btw... not to mention the voting!!)
“Let us hope we do not encounter any major problems in Kortirion.”
Why do I get this sneaking feeling that this hope will not be realized?
Author's reply
We will see in a few more chapter just how Morcocano deals with all of this. His pride and more has been wounded and he does not like what he is seeing. There are some surprising developments coming up in the next couple of chapters.

Glad Sador got that out of his system and made his peace with the Nandor. It seems they're not so bad, after all ;)
Morcocáno obviously wasn't too happy that the Nandor included themselves in the party and the Amanians even welcomed them. To be honest, I enjoyed his discomfort, after he was so discourteous and quite arrogant. I know, I am a bad girl, but that one is really a bit too full of himself!
“Let us hope we do not encounter any major problems in Kortirion,” Olwë rejoined. Hmmm ... why do I have the feeling that remark is calling for a disaster in Kortirion? Or am I becoming too suspicious?
That chapter was interesting, and fun as well. Though I think Tavrobel will be much less of a problem than Avallónë ...
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. We will see how Morcocano reacts to all that is going on soon enough. He is obviously not pleased with the way things are going and I think he will show his displeasure in some manner unbefitting an Elf-lord.
As for being too suspicious.... not where I am concerned. *lol* But we will see how things turn outin Kortirion once we get there.
The people of Tavrobel seem less pretensious than those of Avallone so they are more willing to look at the broad picture and work for the benefit of all, not just for the privileged few.

Aahh, the plot thickens! Some unexpected guests to stir the pot--one wonders if the Valar gave the Nandor a nudge...
Good thinking on Finrod's part to present the progress so, or at least in seems that way at this point.
I was glad to see Glorfindel take Sador in hand. And-I've one thing to say to Glorfindel: "No matter what you say, I don't think you're easily confused at all!"
'Nuff said.
So now it just remains to be seen how adding the Nandor to the luncheon mix turns events. In a way it's too bad, because I would like to see how what those in the Progress did at the lunch influenced relations with the locals, especially the leaders. But getting the locals to know the Nandor is a worthy cause also!
Thanks Fiondil!

So the Nandor habe decided to take part in the live of Tol Eressëa. The reaction of the other elves will be interesting.
I wonder why Laurendil and Manwen should return to Aman that fast and so suddenly and what ulterior motives the Valar have now. Why not let them stay until the origins of the rumours are found?
But I´m glad that Beleg and Sador are better after their crisis.
Watching the Amanians showing off their finery and in the same time ignoring protocol and seating precedence was fun. It will be interesting to see how long the Tol Eressëans need to recover from that.

We will probably learn the reason for Laurendil and Manwen's recall to Lorien eventually, though I make no promises. *grin* I'm glad you enjoyed the Amanians snubbing the Tol Eresseans. I'm sure it will take awhile for the Avalloneans to recover from the shock. *grin*

Nice details about the "sidestepping diplomatic nonsense" in Tol Eressëa. Avallónë will be the biggest problem for the Kings, it seems. So it was fun to watch how the Amanians decided to solve the problem and to make an impression on tle locals. All of them in full pomp must be a sight to behold :D
And it was fun to watch how the Tol Eressëans reacted to the seating order. I am not entirely sure if it is good to annoy them, but on the other hand they should know that they can't force the kings to do anything. Really curious how that's playing out.
Ha, and now the Nandor are turning up! That was unexpected. I take it they took Oromë's words to heart to not isolate themselves any longer; though I have to say they chose an interesting moment to change that ...
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. Glad you liked the "sidestepping diplomatic nonsense" as described in this chapter. The Amanians are obviously good at putting certain pretensious people in their place it seems. *grin*

Loved the way they were teasing Beleg in the beginning. But then things went downhill. You know, I can understand that Laurendil and Manwen didn't take it well to be called back. They would be probably more willing to go if someone would bother to tell them *why*, instead of just ordering it. No wonder they feel used and manipulated. Thinking back over the story, the Valar have been interfering a lot, indeed.
As for Sador, it was a bit surprising how he reacted, as he has always been so quiet and easy-going. But on second thought, I guess it's not really so surprising. There's been happening too much and that was obviously the last strain. I hope he will recover soon.
Author's reply
Sador has actually been too quiet and easy-going considering all that has happened to him lately so this explosion was probably long overdue. Laurendil and Manwen will no doubt come around once their initial anger passes. We will see how it works out in later chapters.

Hello livi. "Elf, Interrupted" takes place around 504 of the Second Age.
I do have a story with Eärwen and Amarië which you can read on this site called "The Findarto Diaries". They are not major characters though but they do play important roles. I have no plans at this time to write stories exclusively about them.

I feel like starting to cheer everytime I see someone giving the Valar what for, even if a little bit. “lol”. However, yes, I do appreciate their gentle care for Sador and for anyone else could be the recipient of their soothing treatment. And yet… Arafinwë’s reason and I quote “I know the Valar do not do anything without purpose” doesn’t work as well as he and the Valar themselves would want to. This argument is successfully working only in one case. In the case of The One, I mean. No Vala can make this claim, not unless they’d want another disaster upon their hands.
I hope Sador’s situation would get better and that means, in my opinion, for him to find some traces in regard to his family. As for Laurendil and Manwen….my insane urge to see Irmo defied in his face (he knows why “lol”) notwithstanding, I have to grit my teeth and admit that, as long they have taken an oath of apprenticeship, they both are bound to obey their master. “sticking out her tongue at said master”
Author's reply
*grin* I can just see you gritting your teeth, Sitara, as you write that last sentence. Anyway, you are correct on several accounts. While the Valar do not do anything without reason, it does not necessarily follow that the reason is legitimate or even wise, yet they can only do as they do in trust that in the end Eru will make it all come out right. That, essentially, is our own hope, is it not?
And Laurendil and Manwen I think realize that their oaths will force them to obey, though they need not like doing so (do we always enjoy obey our elders or superiors?). We'll see how it all works out soon enough.

I guess that put the Tol Eressëans in their place, maybe even knocking them down a peg or two. Hopefully they'll learn something from this experience. Setting up a government is hard enough without some people lording it over others.
It looks like this luncheon is ending up on a different note than what was planned. Can't wait to see what happens next.

The people of Avallone are a bit snobbish, more so than other Tol Eresseans, so the Amanians were in their right to be even more snobbish, at least to a point. We will see next week how the luncheon turns out.
