I love the chemistry between these two!
Author's reply
Thanks. Would this be the type of chemisty that involves a lot of explosions? Haleth
aelfwine · 24 July 2011 · Chapter 3: The Finder Finds a Name
This is interesting . The irrisistable object meets the imoveable force LOL.
Author's reply
You know, that's a perfect way of describing the situation. Thanks!
aelfwine · 24 July 2011 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
How old is she? Why didn't she want any mirover? Why is she so stuborn? I would think she would appreciate the help.
Author's reply
No one's really sure how old she is; even her. Most people would be very grateful for the help and very happy to be alive. This one sees things in a different light. Thank-you for reviewing.
aelfwine · 24 July 2011 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
Great start . One question . Was "sent to make certain heeded the Judge's call" A typo? I thought there should be a (she) in there somewhere?
Author's reply
You are absolutely right, thank-you. I've fixed the mistake. Thanks for reviewing and for letting me know about the error. Haleth
Medea Smyke · 2 March 2009 · Chapter 4: The Beginning of a Difficult Relationship
"In a state of abject horror, she pictured the rest of her life as one, long, frustrating negotiation with a polite, seemingly naïve, utterly implacable Elf." ROTFLMAO!! Haleth, I am enjoying this immensely! She's such an endearing, crabby little woman.
Author's reply
Thanks Medea. Poor Haleth. She just wants to be left alone in her bitterness, but no, that was to much to ask. Now she's got this..this...incredibly good looking, pesky Elf dogging her steps (or anticipating them.)
Medea Smyke · 2 March 2009 · Chapter 3: The Finder Finds a Name
All right, now I want to know what he's doing there in the first place.
Author's reply
That's a very good question, isn't it?
Medea Smyke · 2 March 2009 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
"Please bury my boots with me." She just makes me laugh so hard! And I love how stubborn she is about dying and how stubborn he is about her not dying. Hehe.
Author's reply
And I love how stubborn she is about dying and how stubborn he is about her not dying. It becomes a recurring theme. She thinks she's about to die. He saves her. she wishes she were dead and considers murdering him. They have an interesting relationship.
Medea Smyke · 2 March 2009 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
"It seemed like an extremely inauspicious way to make someone's acquaintance." LMAO! Haleth, the characterization of those two is such a hoot.
Author's reply
Thank-you, Medea. Inglor has a talent for understatement. He even manages it when he's (relatively speaking) alone.
Elflingimp · 22 December 2008 · Chapter 4: The Beginning of a Difficult Relationship
Thank you for this chapter I find it highly amusing that Haleth as she calls herself was out foxed by Inglor, you have made her and him so mysterious as to who and how they came to be, Thankyou for letting us see how they met but darn it I want more, as I always do, they are such good characters they alsmost seem real. Hugs The Imp and Merry Christmas
Author's reply
Thank-you, Elfingimp. I hope your Christmas was merry. Sorry about all of the annoying mystery. There are ideas for a few other stories. I just need to get out the cattle prod of encoouragement and write them properly. Thanks again and I hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year. Haleth
curiouswombat · 22 December 2008 · Chapter 4: The Beginning of a Difficult Relationship
I only discovered Haleth and Inglor on the site a couple of weeks ago, and have so enjoyed both stories about them. They are both such well drawn, and believable, figures. I'd love to know why the arrow has to go to Cirdan... and whether it is related to the mention of them burning one of his ships. There isn't another story that I've missed somewhere, is there?
Author's reply
Hello and thank-you for reviewing, curiouswombat. There isn't another story that you've missed, but now that you mention it there's another one that could be written. Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth
perelleth · 22 December 2008 · Chapter 4: The Beginning of a Difficult Relationship
LOLOL. I really love these two, and the subtle, insidious ways in which you manage to foil Haleth's stubborn attempts at rejecting help. Inglor is like doom, and he is going to be her doom from now on, but I wouldn't mind doom having such a pleasant appearance. And I love how you manage to convey her deep weariness and yet her stubborn refusal for things to be different. The image of Haleth preparing to go away on her own while at the same time already missing the brief span of companionship and warmth , and that making her lonelinesss even more piercing was very moving. Sigh. I really hope that this particular muse keeps knocking at your door. I cannot tell you how much I love the stories about these two.
Author's reply
Thank-you, perelleth. Inglor as Doom. I'm not sure if he's Haleth's Doom as much as he's her Fate. Doom sounds so grim while Fate lets you take your chances. Yes, she's stubborn. He's equally stubborn; he just expresses it differently. All the best for the new year. Haleth
ziggy · 21 December 2008 · Chapter 3: The Finder Finds a Name
Brilliant! I love this combination- Haleth is soooo grumpy! And Inglor just sweetly impervious. I am intrigued by the Arrow - and I love Haleth's overly dramatic self-importance too. Made me laugh.
Author's reply
Thank-you, Ziggy. Haleth isn't used to interacting with people on anything more than a very superficial level. She's probably hoping the grouchiness will drive Inglor away. (Fat chance of that.) Haleth can be a bit over the top in a noble suffering/get the job done kind of way. She's probably just been alone too long and is taking herself too seriously. That's about to change. Thanks again for the review.
perelleth · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 3: The Finder Finds a Name
Ah, I was wondering about the rest of the tale! I love Haleth's quiet stubborness, even hen she is owns and less that fit! Poor Inglor can't even guess what he has dragged home. What I like most is the amount of implie infomration in the pauses and what is not sai. You eave us wit a glimpse of secrets and buried layers n noth of them in a very subtle manner. I really love these two characters.
Author's reply
Thank-you Perelleth. Haleth is stubborn. So is Inglor. She just doesn't realize it yet. Neither of them really knows what to make of the other just yet. For whatever reason, Haleth doesn't entirely trust Inglor. He arrived at a very critical moment and it probably seems like too much of a coincidence for her to simply accept him. Thanks again. Haleth
Elflingimp · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 3: The Finder Finds a Name
Thankyou for the chapter Haleth!, I wondered where you had gone, and also I was glad to know somewhat of her heritage, that was very interesting and mysterious, as usual you give hints but don't tell everything to keep us intrigued(and believe me I am dying to know)Well written and now I hope another chapter will be coming, also I am glad I wasn't sick while reading this because I think it would have made me feel sicker LOL! Hugs The Imp
Author's reply
Thank-you for reviewing, Elfingimp. Sorry for the long delay between chapters. I'll really try to get the final chapter up soon. Thanks for the comment about being happy you weren't sick while reading this chapter. I was really trying for drowning-in-her-own-lungs misery. Haleth
perelleth · 1 June 2008 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
I had somehow missed this! I love the finder's sceptic frame of mind. She would never have imagined Mandos' Halls would be so aromatic. LOLOL! that was fun! And you make me wonder.. Did we ever get to know the tale of Haleth's boots, or that is another tale waiting to be told? Also, her sentence got me thinking "It shall be needed later.." Let me think: we have a sword, the black arrow, later a palantir... is Cirdan building a museum? no, I' joking, but i'm seeing intersting threads all aroudn taht I ahd not glimpsed earlier. NAd other thing that I like in this tale is that they both gain a kind of mithycal quality. Well, we know Inglor has it, but Haleth being called The finder, she knwoing things Inglor does not know, her determination to retrieve the black arrow and her knwoing that the time of legends is passing... well that gives the whole tale an extra depth that is very much welcome. But poor woman, to feel so wrteched and being cared after by such a wondrous creature! No wonder she hates her own vulnerability and his more than perfect innocence! I love these two characters.
Author's reply
It's taken nearly half a year for me to reply to your review. I can only beg your pardon. The poor Finder has a very literal way of looking at the world. She'd really, really like things to go her way, but fate keeps stepping in and stomping on her expectations. You'd think she'd get used to it. Is Cirdan building a museum? ROTFL!!!! I can just see the newspaper article. Mithlond, long the Elvish centre for shipbuilding, has fallen upon hard times now that most of the Elves have sailed for the Blessed Realm. Faced with declining revenues from ship building, Cirdan had decided to expand the local economy to embrace tourism. To that extent he had hired the services of a professional collector to find various and sundry artifacts for the tourists to gawk at (and spend their money while doing it.) It is extremely undignified to be cared for by another, particularly when one is proud and if the Finder is anything, she is proud. Thanks again.
vampfan30 · 24 May 2008 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
It's so good to see Haleth & Inglor again! what can I say, there's no telling what they will get up to & I'm definitely looking forward to it....
Author's reply
Thank-you, vampfan. I hope this story doesn't disappoint, even if it is taking me nearly forever to write.
Neilia · 23 May 2008 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
This is extremely intriguing. I will be following it avidly. More, please. Hugs, Neilia

Elflingimp · 23 May 2008 · Chapter 2: A Fleeting Disappointment
I wouldn't want to be in Haleths shoes right now with the way she feels, once again your descriptions are so good I could almost feel her pain. The black arrow now has me wondering why it is so important? Why it must br given to Cirdan? Inglor is his usual sweet self and I am sure Haleth will be taken care of, very good chapter the only thing that will make it better is another one! LOL! Deb
Author's reply
Thank-you, Elfingimp. Before antibiotics pneumonia was very often fatal. It's hard to imagine how horrible it would feel. You'd almost drown in your own lungs, especially when lying flat. Somehow, somewhere, Inglor learned enough about mortals to keep her propped up so she could breathe. There's finally another chapter. I apologize for taking so long to post it. Haleth
Bodkin · 5 May 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
An auspicious meeting. With one good at turning up at the nick of time - an another who will struggle through, it would seem, just about any adversity!
Author's reply
Thank-you, Bodkin. Inglor does seem to have a keen sense of timing. As for the other, she's either too stubborn or too unimaginative to ever give up. Either that or she thinks she's working towards something.
daw the minstrel · 14 April 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
What a compelling character, or rather pair of characters, woman and elf both. And Bard's arrow! It never occurred to me to wonder what happened to it after it killed Smaug. An intriguing beginning.
Author's reply
Thank-you, daw. I'm happy that you found the characters interesting. It was an interesting exercise to write so much without using proper names. Thanks again. Haleth
perelleth · 12 April 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
I so love the irony embedded in your writing! HAleth is perfect in her single-minded duty, a life, one supposes, devoted to similar adventures that might as well found a less than glorious end there...except for this chance encounter that is somehow going change all. It is comforting that their fist meeting is marked by what will become the rule. I so love that image of her body hitting the gunwale and this saving her life, while the elf wonders how so much water could fit inside her chest... and HAleth giving him other things to think about before collapsing again in her graceless manner. Their opposing personalities are a perfect match. I'm looking forward to the rest of it!
Author's reply
Thank-you, perelleth. Haleth can be a little determined. Poor thing. She doesn't have the first clue what she's in for. I couldn't figure out how to save her after she breathed in the water. Originally Inglor gave her mouth to mouth resuscitation, but that seemed too modern for even the Elves to have. The modified, unintentional Heimlich manuoevre seemed a slight bit more likely. Thanks again. Haleth
Elflingimp · 11 April 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
Ahhh! Haleth again and sweet Inglor? Yes I think so,anyway she was always doing things to him, your descriptions of Haleth rowing out to where she was going were right on the mark, I could almost hear it, I can't wait for this tale to go on! I love your stories as you know and still hope you may take a shot at doing Wandering in Mandos Deb
Author's reply
Thank-you, Elfingimp. Poor, sweet, long-suffering Inglor. It's interesting paddling a boat at night in the wilderness. The quiet is so immense that the water dripping off the paddle seems loud in comparison. Thanks for the vote of confidence for Wandering in Mandos but I think it drifted so far away from canon that it was more an original story with Tolkien's names stuck to it. It would probably work better if I just changed the names and made it entirely original. Thanks again. Haleth
TithenFeredir · 11 April 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
Oooo, very interesting. This is the first meeting of Haleth and Inglor? I remain curious about Haleth's past. So, if it's her I hope you give a few more hints about that. I'm also wondering why the black arrow is worth dying for. What an eerie picture you drew of her dive in the dark. The image of Smaug's rotting, jewel-encrusted corpse as the object of her search was surprising and very effective. Well done! ~TF
Author's reply
Thank-you, TithenFeredir. Yes, this is the first meeting between Haleth and Inglor although they haven't introduced themselves yet. I really can't take credit for the description of the dragon, though. Tolkien painted a vivid picture of Smaug's corpse rotting in the lake and I used that.
FreelancerofArda · 11 April 2008 · Chapter 1: The Black Arrow
Ah, so that's how everything started! It seems that Inglor is always having to rescue Haleth, though. :-) From the first time they met, to the days they spent lookking for the palantir. FoA
Author's reply
That does seem to be the way it is, doesn' it? I'll have to change that. (Which means I'll just have to write more stories where it doesn't happen. Author Reply: Where are my manners? Thank-you for reviewing and thank-you for the idea.
