Delightful. I enjoyed seeing the twins young.

lovely! i haven't read a peredhil fic of yours for a while :) it's lovely to see the family all together and enjoying themselves, Amroth's tale is indeed tragic; i wonder whether Glorfindel will ever recall his words when Amroth and Nimrodel are lost? i love the way you write the twins, stubborn fast Elladan, and calm, gentle Elrohir; they are in many ways each other's opposite. Galadriel's mental note to address the twins in 'reverse' i thought was both amusing and insightful. they are always referred to as 'Elladan and Elrohir'. it must get irritating! rofl @ Glorfindel and Elrond! at least the Slayer didn't gloat (too much) about his Lord's lack of condition :) point taken, back to the training fields! i have amusing images of the pair of them 'bumbling around' as you say, to give the others chance to evade them. sweet! Oh, just something; Elrond is always referred to as 'Noldor', but he actually has more Sindar in him than Noldor. not sure what that makes the twins, though. Elrohir's question about how can they all be half-elven was amusing! after all, it confuses just about everyone, i think! any chance of any more of the Family? pleeeeeease? thanks for a great fic :) J xx

That was lovely, all way through! I loved each moment you captured here. The cute, the humourous, the irony, the sweet, the profound, and the protentous. Especially, "maternal omniscience" and "two sons at one time" and "take part in the dance" and "He was." and "at heart, a pair of Galadhrim" and certainly that last unexpected shiver. Thanks for continuing to present these birthday fics. Each one is gem. Happy Birthday to Nilmandra!

wow, this is a really wonderful story. One can really sense the love all of them have for each other, even as they lovingly jibe each other about their closeness to the trees (or not :) ). The fact that all the adults are in conspiracy to make the day as fun and rewarding an experience as possible for the twins gave a perfect sense of gentle irony. I especially liked how you managed to incorporate more than just a family outing - from Elrohir's references to racial rivalry to Galadriel's foresight at the end - it really adds depth! I shall also add to the well-wishers: Happy Birthday, Nilmandra!

Very nicely done, Bodkin! I love how deftly you portray, in few words, the complex relationships between all these people who so clearly love each other... not to mention the relationship each has (or doesn't have) with the forest.... But the last line gave *me* the shivers. Only you could go so effortlessly from one young child portentously imitating his father, to a foreshadowing of the end of Galadriel's millennia of exile. What a surprise! Thank you -- I really enjoyed reading this! And Happy Birthday, Nilmandra! - Barbara

She shivers, does she? The family foresight has its disadvantages, I'd think. Alas for all the pain and loss they must undergo before that day comes when all indeed go home once more; yet that homecoming is, I think, the more joyous in the end. Lovely family day indeed; and am so glad father and daughter are keeping the twins on such an even keel. Thank you for this one. It's so wonderful to see you posting once more!

– may the Valar take him back to Aman, where he belonged - poor Elrond... Lovely tale -

This was delightful! I love the little twins and the thoughts of their elders. Poor Amroth. Poor out of shape Elrond, too. I like Celeborn's pride in the little ones.

First, the most important thing - Happy Birthday, Nilmandra! I'm sure she's elated with this gift - all her most beloved characters, playing hide-and-seek in the woods. It makes me wish I were with them. There are so many wonderful little details in this story I can't possibly remember them all, but Celebrian's insight into Glorfindel and Elrond doing paperwork when he's supposed to be playing were especially delightful. And I loved Celeborn trying to turn his grandson into one of the Galadhrim, and Galadriel's deliberate bestowal birth-order equity (begone, "older twin!"). It was all wonderful, Bodkin.

Thanks, Bodkin! There is so much that is wonderful about this - the description of Celeborn as a "deep forest pool: still and calm and hidden"; Celebrian's relationship with her father and the trees; all of them believing they would get the better of Elrond in this, though I think he might surprise them in a pinch, and Galadriel's noticing of things so small as remembering to switch the order of their names as well as the big picture of life in Middle-earth. And Glorfindel and Galadriel thinking of where and how far they had come. The little tiwns are, of course, completely adorable in their differences and similarities. Thanks for this - it fits my idea of a perfect day.

Such a lovely family day indeed. I like the way the fun with the children propels the story--while the more somber undercurrents take second place for once. I do love your elves, especially your Galadriel, who seems a much warmer person than she is often portrayed in fic, without losing a speck of her dignity. And I also liked the little discussion about Amrothos and Nimrodel--a very nice little sidelight!

I enjoyed all of this, Bodkin, especially the little sidetrip on how the twins could be half elves. LOL. That always puzzled me too. I liked the way Elladan realizes too late that he shouldn't have revealed he and his brother have been running through the trees. I also like Elrohir's tentative exploration of the trees' voices. But the last few lines gave this depth. Where is home and who gets to go there?

This is delightful Bodkin. And the ending...wow!

Yes, we all have to go home eventually, don't we. Lynda

Well I sat down at my computer to see what the weather was this Sunday morning and I got The New Chapter story alert, I clicked on it and meant only to check it out and come back later, but got so caught up in the story that I forgot about the weather which I think is a great compliment to you! I loved that it showed how this family had progressed and Glorfindles insight about Amroth and his love, it was simply too good. Thanks Bodkin it was delicious!
