Llinos · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Very Old Friends

Now don't you know it's rude to whisper? This means Arwen and Pippin will eventually have to share this intelligence with us all. They do realise this I hope. You should blame the beta, because there is an old adage which goes, "personally, I blame Marigold". That generally covers everything. What I find most astounding is how Errol eventually ended up in a boot sale in Wycombe and that Marigold found him and sent him to you so he could tell you about his adventures! A well-travelled rabbit indeed! (PS So you see Marigold IS to blame! Again!)

Author's reply

I was actually surprised to find that Pippin knew how to whisper. I did think he'd be loud enough so that we might over-hear. I knew Arwen would be no help here. Elves are very good at whispering. I wonder where that adage started? I was thinking of blame President Bush because I enjoy blaming him for everything. I don't know how you do it, but you're right again. Marigold did *find* TBR and mail him here, didn't she? Oh, and is the adage 'blame the beta' or 'personally, I blame Marigold' because blaming the beta could put you at risk.

Well you know I never even ask for directions, let alone follow them. It's why I get lost a lot. Also, I've never met or been introduced to the Velveteen rabbit so, if he's not already, he can get stuffed. The prologue overall was amusing in its impertinence and for that reason warrented a second read, together with a prolonged chuckle. I dread to think what might happen if you reignite your creativity - a very nasty conflagration I should think. I'm standing well back.

Author's reply

The title of this prologue would have only served to make me read it just to see why I wasn't supposed to do so. (Clever of the writer, wasn't it?) I'm thinking of calling my next fiction: "Don't Read This No Matter What!" You can do the beta because I know now that you'll just go ahead and read it anyway. If I recover I promise to warn you so that you have time to get as far away as possible. I am glad you enjoyed the prologue and I do thank you all of your help with this. Your encouragement went a loooong way toward getting this written. Oh, and the Velveteen Rabbit was a bit stuffy.

PIppinfan1988 · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

*sniff, sniff!* I just LOVED every bit of this wonderful tale -- and most brilliantly told, too! You're a natural born storyteller. And you did fabulous with writing the Elves -- enjoyed your OC hobbits as well! I have never read the Velveteen Rabbit, so I recognised nothing from it. I adored Errol's first moments -- his new "beginning", if you will. I know he'll be safe and loved much while in Arwen's possession. Now...I have some other questions regarding Errol, but I need to do some research first. I'll send them your way as soon as I know what I want to ask. ;-)

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think I was born naturally or I was according to my mom but I don't know about the storyteller part. The elves got help for Llinos which was very much appreciated and those children were human children. I didn't say and I should have done so but this happened close to Rivendell and so there were no hobbits about. This, believe it or not, was a hobbit free chapter! Send all of the questions that you have. I may just pass them on to Knitted Merry because he seems to know more about Errol than I do. : ) Thanks for reading!

Andrea · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

I am an Elvish Rabbit. And he can be proud of it! It's a good thing that he cannot remember what happened before. Poor little rabbit. But fearless Arwen saved him and I can very well imagine that she frightened those naughty little boys (which are mankind I'd say). But now you raised at least two further questions. What name did Arwen give her rabbit and how did he come to Pippin? I would love to read more about Errol's history! P.S.: I'm honored to read that Merry the Mag contributed bits of his enormous wisdom to help writing this story :)

Author's reply

I do think that it's all Errol recalls, being among the Elves and being Elvish. I can understand his wanting to forget the rest of it. Errol seems to be keeping his Elvish name a secret but it is bound to come out at some point. There is a bit of a gap filler that needs doing so that Errol's time with Arwen and his time with Pippin get connected. I'll have to work on that. I am very glad you enjoyed this and I hope to have more stories from Errol before long. If you will read Llinos review of this chapter you can see a bit more of Knitted-Merry's contribution to all of this. He does his own bit of gap-filling and explains a bit more about Titch. I do wish he'd write more, don't you?

Andrea · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 0: Skip this and go to chapter one

Well, of course I didn't follow the directions ;-) And I found this disclaimer and prologue very creative, so no need of strong medications! Now on to the story :)

Author's reply

Somehow I didn't think you'd follow the directions. You read no matter what and I am very pleased about that. Hope you enjoy the story!

Larner · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

Ah--how satisfying! Poor little bunny--but now he's a Elf's bunny, and is beloved as it ought to be. It does sound, however, as if these children were Hobbit children--so sad to think Hobbit children could be so naughty! Poor Titch--hope he grew into a responsible adult!

Author's reply

Errol did have a rocky start of it but I do think it turned out well for him. Oh, and those were human children. I really should have said so but didn't. It would seem that Errol was with the big folk for a time. This happened near Rivendell so no hobbits were about. To answer your question about Titch, look at Llinos' review of this chapter. It seems that Knitted-Merry has done a gap-filler within the review and given us a bit of news about Titch. It's very good. Thank you for reading and reviewing.

Larner · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Very Old Friends

I thought I recognized this! And I'd love to know the name myself! Heh!

Author's reply

See, a prologue that folks aren't supposed to read and a first chapter that is a repeat! I really do need medication for something. But it's summer so a repeat or two is to be expected.

Larner · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 0: Skip this and go to chapter one

Oh, I'm so glad to get more information on our beloved Errol! Love the non-creative creativity of the prologue! And I don't listen either, do I? Heh!

Author's reply

Personally, I only hear the voices inside of my head. Listening can be over-rated. Hope you enjoy the story.

shirebound · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

“No, much remains of what he was, in fact most of the original toy was saved,” her Ada said. “It has just been improved upon and cleaned and repaired. You know what? That's how I imagine Frodo's healing in the West. *beams*

Author's reply

Elves healed Errol and we know they healed Frodo too. I love that about Elves. They always make things better. : ) If Errol had stayed with the Elves then he might have sailed too. Then again, he'd probably have stayed with Arwen in Minas Tirith. Thank you for reading.

shirebound · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Very Old Friends

“Well?” Merry insisted. “His name is Errol,” Pippin said looking slightly cheeky. Young or old, I like my hobbits cheeky!

Author's reply

Me too. I can't imagine them any other way.

Dreamflower · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

Oh, GW, what a delightful "nearly beginning" for Errol! Arwen is such a brave little child, and I can easily see her being furious at seeing the poor little toy being misused. I just love the way you've characterized her in this. I feel bad for poor little Titch, though. Clearly he did love his rabbit too. Big brothers can be such bullies sometimes. I'll bet Bob and Fred will think twice about doing that sort of thing to him anymore, though! They might be afraid his Elven guardian would return. It would be nice to see more of Errol's early adventures with his little Elven mistress... And I'm still wondering how he fell into hobbit hands. Hmm...could Bilbo have brought him to the Shire after that incident with the dragon? or...???

Author's reply

I'm so glad you liked it. This one has been a very long time in coming. I was supposed to write this ages ago but for some reason the story got all stubborn on me. I'm glad you enjoyed Arwen. My experience with Elves is very limited so I wasn't certain that the Elves would turn out well. Llinos helped a great deal there. Knitted Merry has revealed a bit about Titch in Llinos' review of this chapter. You should read his gap-filler because it will clear things up for you. I felt better after reading it. I don't know if I will be able to write more about Errol's time with Arwen but I have thought about it... I do still need to get Errol to tell me how he wound up in the Shire. I know how Pippin comes by him but I have no idea about the rest. I'm thinking of asking Knitted-Merry is Errol refuses to talk about it. Your guess about Bilbo might just turn out to be part of it all. Thank you for reading and I am looking forward to more "Road To Edoras" so don't spend too much time reading. hehehe

Pathvain Aelien · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

Huzzah for Errol! Loved the story. :)

Author's reply

Well, hello stranger! It's so good to hear from you again. I hope you are well. I love it when you review because you were one of the very first people ever to review anything of mine. You encouraged me a great deal when I was just beginning to write. I thank you for that and I'm glad you enjoyed this. Errol is very glad too and sends hugs.

Marigold · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

Thank you so much for writing this for me! I have been waiting to read this story for ages and I am so chuffed that you wrote it for me for my birthday! I think you did a marvelous job with the characterisations, especially Arwen. You write elves with the same skill that you write hobbits! I'd like to see more stories with Arwen and Errol! I am so glad to finally know just how it was that Errol became Arwen's rabbit! Thank Errol for me too, and thanks to Llinos for the beta! Hugs!

Author's reply

Hullo there! I do hope the birthday was a good one and that you got lots of presents and cake and maybe some pop tarts? : ) I'm so glad you liked this. It took its own sweet time turning up that's for certain. I will have to do some thinking before I write more adventures for Arwen and Errol and I will have to research Elves or perhaps I can get Llinos and Errol to research the Elves? Thank you for all of your support and for keeping me in line with the stickses. You are a wonderful friend. Errol is very pleased that you enjoyed your birthday story and he sends a hug. Happy Birthday again, GW PS Did you read KM's story about Titch?

Golden · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

Very nice! :) Finally a new story from you! I am not an experienced elf-reader *g*, but for my feeling you wrote them very well and I really enjoyed the story. Wow, Errol is really very veeeery old! I just wonder, when Pip has died in Minas Tirith ( like you wrote in that other great story) does Arwen then again keps Errol or does Errol finds an end with Pippin, sleeping forever in his Tomp? Happy Birthday from me too Marigold! Hope you have a great day! Hugs, Golden

Author's reply

I am so glad that you enjoyed this and that you liked the Elves in it. As you know I mostly write Hobbits and stuffed Rabbits so the Elves were something new for me. Errol is very old and I think that is why he has so many stories to tell. As to what happened to Errol when Pippin was gone, if you read "Freddy and The Thain's Rabbit" the answer to that is in that story. You may be surprised. Take care, Golden and thank you for this lovely review! GW

Mum's the Word · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Very nearly the beginning

What a wonderful story of Errol's nearly beginning! I loved brave Arwen, mischievous brothers, kind and fatherly Elrond -- and of course the star of the show. Arwen was curious about mortals even at this age, I see. And I know she'll love and care for Errol for many years. The cruelty of the older mortal boys, though upsetting, was well written. I'm sure we all know boys who act that way. I'm sorry the younger boy had to lose his beloved pet/toy, but we'll hope that he gets over the loss as well as Errol seems to have done. And now ... Now Errol has a new, Elvish name and a new, Elvish nature -- and who knows what adventures he may have! Hugs, Mum

Author's reply

Hello, Mum! I've eaten all of the brownies now so I am full and happy. Thank you. So glad you enjoyed Arwen and the twins and Elrond. I am not at all experienced in writing about Elves so it is good to know that someone enjoyed them. If you will read Llinos' review of this chapter you can find out a bit more about Titch. Knitted-Merry has written a bit on that subject in Llinos' review and I think you'll be pleased. Hugs to you from Errol and me! GW

Mum's the Word · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Very Old Friends

Oh, I remember reading this earlier! I loved it then, and even more now. If Errol was once Arwen's, and is of Elvish make, that explains a lot about his character. Well done, GW!

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed this little repeat portion of the story. Having been among the Elves would explain a bit about Errol. Thank you for reading!

Mum's the Word · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 0: Skip this and go to chapter one

Get well soon, dear GW! I understand that large quantities of poached fish will help stimulate creativity. That's what I've heard, though I haven't actually tried it myself. But it might help. Oh, but I have baked fresh, fudgy brownies. That should help, shouldn't it? Hugs and brownies, Mum

Author's reply

I want the brownies. I think I can be well again if I have lots and lots of brownies. As to the poached fish, well...pass the brownies will you, Mum?

PIppinfan1988 · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Very Old Friends

I remembered this entire scene while I read it, and I loved it -- all over again! I do love your Errol series and I'm so glad you're updating to it. Happy Birthday, Marigold! p.s. my own wicked taskmaster will be screaching my name soon, so if you don't see a review soon after this one, then that means I'll back later after a day of hanging on a fanfic cliff wondering how this tale is going to come out!

Author's reply

I had planned just to post the next chapter and leave this bit out but it's been a while since Errol turned up in a story and so I thought he might need a bit of a set up before going on. Anyone stumbling in here on accident might not have a clue what was going on in the next bit. Yes, I do hope Marigold is somewhere having a lovely birthday. Well, this isn't a very big cliff. You can probably let go and not fall more than half a foot. I do hope the wicked taskmaster is out sick or something so you can relax.

PIppinfan1988 · 27 June 2008 · Chapter 0: Skip this and go to chapter one

I thought it was as entertaining as ever! And very clever, too! But, yeah, wicked taskmasters and OT have a way of wreaking havoc on my Muse, too. Btw...with the exception of one instance, Elves are not found in any of my stories, either. :-P On to the story! :-)

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed my prologue. I am certain that Elf people everywhere are tearing out their hair and wailing just at the thought of this but I had to do it. Errol insisted and someone we know mentioned stickses! Thank goodness Llinos knew a thing or two about what elves might say or I'd have been in very big trouble! Until now the only Elf I've written seriously was Legolas. You and I have to get out more.
