Minerva Organa · 19 May 2009 · Chapter 15: Elrond's Decision
Oh, very well done! I have always wondered what that encounter would actually have been like, not just in words but in the emotions of the two of them. I enjoyed this a lot! =)

Elflingimp · 19 May 2009 · Chapter 36: Elrond
Ah That was so good and so painful for them both. I liked the part about Aragorn leaving Elrond The Palantir in the end so he could possibly veiw M.E. again, by the way that would make an excellent story in itself wouldn't it? (Hint,Hint LOL) Hugs The Imp
Author's reply
Hi, Debs, good to hear from you again and glad you enjoyed that. I do hope that was the reason Elrond took the Palantir with him and I'm sure he would only have taken it with Aragorn's blessing. Hint, hint? Umm. you've got me thinking!
shirebound · 19 May 2009 · Chapter 36: Elrond
Ohhh, Elrond acknowledging Aragorn's great heart even as his own is fracturing. through all your many trials, you lost neither hope nor humanity, and in all your years of sacrifice and service, you never once allowed your goal to become your master. What finer tribute can a man -- or king -- ever have? And Aragorn's love and respect for Elrond just shines here.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Shirebound. That line really sums up Aragorn for me; I'm pleased you approve.
Tracy Hughes · 14 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
I'm just now reading this chapter and wanted to tell you it gave me chills. I really enjoyed it. Thanks again for another great chapter.
Author's reply
Thanks, Tracy. I'm so glad to know you'll still sticking with this story and very pleased to know you found this one chilling [in a good way, I hope!]
RS · 13 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
Wow, Nice! Right next to the White Tree! Very appropriate! Hope the guards know enough to give their king and new queen some privacy! The word inhibited is not in their dictionary! It's been a long time coming for these two...no one in Arda would have stopped them! I can't seem to wipe this big smile off my face! Well done!
Author's reply
I'm so glad you can't wipe the smile off your face - I couldn't when I was writing it! Yes, it's been a very long time coming and there must be some perks to being the king! Thanks so much for your review, RS. I really appreciate it.
Estelcontar · 13 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
What a most wonderful and moving chapter. I just loved to see Aragorn happy, and successful. As usual, you managed to show us very clearly that mixture of anxiety, expectation and happiness he must have felt during his first days of kingship. I'm sure that he felt hopeful for the future and certain of his success, but I'm also sure he must have been a bit worried by the enourmous and difficult task facing him. And you showed that very clearly, as you also showed his pleasurable expectation of Arwen's arrival. The second part is just marvelous. You did a great job of portraying Aragorn and Arwen's joy. And I loved the ending. You have the knack of painting with very vivid colours and a very delicate hand physical longing and physical love. It was a beautiful scene, in which we could feel their love for each other, and their bliss in each other. It was a stroke of genius to make it happen under the White Tree. The White Tree always meant so much and symbolized so much hope for Aragorn and his line that it was just perfect that Aragorn and Arwen had their first night of love under its protective and welcoming branches. Well done indeed.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Estelcontar. It was wonderful to finally get to this scene, so long has it been in coming! His new role must have felt very strange to Aragorn at first but of course everything would have fallen into place with the arrival of his queen. And I'm so glad you enjoyed that last part. It just felt right to me too!
Larner · 13 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
Yea--let them rejoice in one another, and find fulfillment indeed! The joys are balanced with griefs, and the griefs with joy. So it ever is.
Author's reply
Yes, isn't that just so. Thank you, Larner.
Linda Hoyland · 13 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
I'm pleased you included a scene for Aragorn and Faramir and it is always lovely to see Aragorn win his lady at last.
Author's reply
I hoped you would enjoy seeing Faramir. Thanks, Linda.
Raksha The Demon · 12 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
A lovely correspondence between the power of the young White Tree and the rise of Aragorn and Arwen's long-deferred physical love. And a Faramir cameo, too! Nicely and romantically written.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Raksha, it's a pleasing parallel, isn't it? And Faramir had to get a look-in in this story somewhere.
shirebound · 12 May 2009 · Chapter 35: The White Tree
He still marvelled that this was an actual, real ‘White Tree’, a living scion of Galathilion, itself an image of Telperion, a line that had survived from the depths of Ages past. In Minas Tirith, the emblem of the White Tree was to be seen everywhere; on every heraldic device; on every suit of armour; above every doorway in the citadel, as well as above his own throne, but no one in the city had ever seen an actual, living White Tree before. Isn't that wonderful? What a glorious and inspiring event to describe. I feel as if we've all been waiting for this lovely chapter, not just Aragorn and Arwen. Beautiful.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Shirebound. This was one of my favourite chapters to write. As you say, not just for Aragorn and Arwen, but for the pleasure of sharing that feeling of hope that Aragorn must have had and the wonder of the White Tree was a large part of expressing that.
Linda Hoyland · 6 May 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
I love the way your portrat Halbarad here. His loyalty and courage is truly awe inspiring.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Linda. I feel we know Halbard well, even though we see him so briefly and his courage and loyalty are certainly what speak to me.
Linda Hoyland · 6 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
It was a desire to read about this scene which first caused me to write Tolkien inspired stories!I loved the scene for Aragorn and Sam.
Author's reply
It is fascinating to learn of the things that start us on our way. I'm so glad you enjoyed this, Linda. Thanks you for reviewing.
RS · 5 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
Hi! I've been keeping up with the story but have not left any reviews as I have been scrambling and lucky enough just to find a computer that works so I can print the updates. It's so frustrating not leaving any reviews as each chapter has been so emotionally charged and I would have like to have given you my first reaction to each one...but alas. This reader has felt all the emotions that your characters are going through. I have felt fear, pride, exhuberance, determination, and, most of all sadness. I'm still recovering from Halbarad's chapter. You know when you feel the color leave your face and you feel cold and your head starts to tingle and feel lightheaded, and a sudden fear and terror strikes at your heart? That is what I felt when I read Aragorn's resolute that he will die in this battle...and his thoughts on Arwen, always on Arwen. And then I felt chills go up and down my spine when reading the destruction of Mount Doom. I wanted to clap my hands and jump up and down. Your description of Aragorn's healing of Frodo and Sam was beautiful. It just made everything better. I could not have read a better gap filler than this! Thanks!
Author's reply
It's lovely to hear from you again, RS, and to know you are still reading especially as your computer is giving you such problems. Wow, perhaps this chapter should have come with a health warning, or at least a note advising that the reader be seated! I'm delighted you enjoyed this and thank you so much for your kind words.
Dreamflower · 5 May 2009 · Chapter 18: All that is Gold
This is utterly wonderful! You have captured Bilbo beautifully, and I find this particular version of the beginnings of his friendship with Aragorn utterly believable and genuinely touching!
Author's reply
I am so thrilled to hear from you, Dreamflower, thank you for leaving a review. And I'm very relieved you liked my take on Bilbo. He's such a wonderful character, I so wanted to do him justice. Those few lines on FOTR don't give us much to go on but I feel sure there was a great friendship here between these two very different heroes.
Estelcontar · 5 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
You've done it again. I really, really enjoyed the The Hands of The King. The glimpses you give us of Battle Of The Morannon are so vivid, it highlights and gives great immediacy to the plight, self-sacrifice and determination of Aragorn and of the Army of The West. The healing of Frodo and Sam is very poignant, and moving, and I'm glad you showed us how much it must have taxed Aragorn's strenght. After all, he had to spend his all after some very harrowing weeks of worry, toil and gruesome fighting. "The bitter determination that can only come from one facing certain death who will remain defiant to the end." What a wonderful sentence! It's so very like Aragorn, as is also his fear for Arwen's fate. This is a lovely gap filler that I really enjoyed reading.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Estelcontar for your thoughtful review. That day must have been a huge emotionally roller coster for everyone but probably Aragorn most of all. I wonder if he had a moment to fully realise the implications of all that had happened as he struggled to save Frodo and Sam. I'm so pleased you enjoyed my take on it all.
Larner · 5 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
Indeed, he did put forth all of his strength to call the two of them back. But now that this debt is paid as much as is possible, it is up to them to heal as they can. A wonderful retelling.
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner. This was such an important scene it's hard to believe it received only a couple of lines in the book.
shirebound · 5 May 2009 · Chapter 34: The Hands of the King
But as he looked at Strider, he saw the love and compassion in his eyes and he knew he spoke truthfully. Yes, of course he could trust Strider to lead him to Frodo. Sam slowly got to his feet and walked towards him. He took his hand and allowed himself to be led far away from the entrance to the Halls of Mandos. Ohhhh, I love this chapter. I think it might be my favorite one of all. What an incredible event, fulfilled by such incredible people. And I'm ever so happy Aragorn got to be tended a bit after this in my own fic. :)
Author's reply
Thank you, Shirebound, I so hoped you would enjoy this chapter. There really are too few hobbits in this story! And yes, I think Aragorn was more than ready for some TLC himself and was no doubt very grateful to you for providing some.
Baggins Babe · 2 May 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
One of the Shirefolk here again (I like that term). I meant to review this the other day but had to dash off to work. This made me cry (not a frequent thing). I have always felt for poor Halbarad, supporting Aragorn all that time and not living to see the final victory. His love for his Chieftain is so strong that he follows him knowing it will mean his doom. *sniffle* Wonderfully written, as usual. The role of the standard-bearer has always been a risky one - King Charles I's standard-bearer was killed but would not let go of the King's standard even after death. When it was recaptured his hand was still holding it, although no longer attached to the rest of him!
Author's reply
Hi Baggins Babe, it's great to see you again. I might be a ranger writer but I have a big soft spot for the Shirefolk! I'm so glad you enjoyed this. It is as if Halbarad willingly sacrificed his own life for Aragorn and I too find that very moving. I didn't know that about Charles 1's standard bearer. That is so sad; thank you for including mention of it. PS The next chapter contains hobbits!
Larner · 28 April 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
The greatest of tributes from the brother of his heart, who has shared as much of his labors as possible in the past sixty years. Wonderful and moving!
Author's reply
Thank you very much, Larner, I'm so glad you enjoyed this.
Minerva Organa · 28 April 2009 · Chapter 3: Son of Arathorn
I always wondered how exactly Elrond came about deciding when Aragorn was ready...this was very well done. I like Estel's reaction--very pensive, but still hopeful and proud. And that last scene with Gilraen was great!
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Minerva, for your review. This was a surprisingly complicated chapter to write as there were so many emotions to deal with but I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Elflingimp · 28 April 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
Arg! You made me cry, it's so sad that Halbarad has to die (sniff) he was such a true brother to Aragorn. Hugs The Imp
Author's reply
Well I'm sorry I made you cry, *hugs* back, but thank you very much for telling me!
Estelcontar · 28 April 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
It's funny how Tolkien told us so little about Halbarad, but we all assume (at least I did from the first time I read LOTR), that he and Aragorn were very close and loved each other very much. Maybe it is due to Aragorn's happiness when Halbarad arrives, and because it was he that Aragorn chose as companion during the palantír ordeal. It just goes to show how Tolkien can show you things through slight details like these. Your chapter is a lovely and poignant tribute to Halbarad of The Dúnedain. I loved the way you let us see through Halbarad's eye how much Aragorn grew and how much his people loved and cherished him. Their friendship, love, loyalty and respect for each other shine here. Well done indeed.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Estelcontar, for your review and your very kind words. It is extraordinary how Halbarad has grown out of so few words in ROTK yet, as you say, the strength of his friendship with Aragorn is obvious, such is the genius of Tolkien!
shirebound · 28 April 2009 · Chapter 33: Halbarad
This is a beautiful and inspirational tribute to Halbarad, and really brings everything back to the beginning. Well done. And so at last you can throw away your disguise and as a king you will ride to the White City, though you have ever been a king to those of us who know and love you. *sigh*
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Shirebound. This was the first chapter I wrote that had Halbarad in it and all the others sprang from it as his part in Aragorn's story demanded to be told!
Linda Hoyland · 24 April 2009 · Chapter 32: The Black Ships
Another part of Aragorn's life that truly amazes me. A very vivid and spine chilling rendering of this remarkable ride.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Linda. Yes this was another largely unsung moment of his.
Baggins Babe · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 32: The Black Ships
Another chapter where I felt I was there. I have always wanted to read more about these events and you have answered my curiosity perfectly. That was a terrifying moment when the Dead tried to overtake the Grey Company *shudder* There was so much to take in - I loved the Twins acknowledging their little brother as Isildur's Heir and a worthy king, and that bit of foreshadowing over poor Halbarad. I can't wait for the next one.
Author's reply
I'm so thrilled you're enjoying this story. Yes, this was another chapter I felt was crying out to be written as I so wish the Professor had given us more than the brief account supplied by Legolas and Gimli. Thank you again for reviewing.
