Wherever the prompt may lead indeed - are you going to follow these up with fuller stories? It's not nice to leave us all on these cliffs you know! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I don't know as yet, Antane. This is for the Henneth Annun list's annual Advent Calendar challenge, which I've not done previously. As this year's theme call for ficlets each containing the previous elements plus one more daily, I'm trying to keep them to a hundred fifty words. How I'll do that when I have twenty-four elements to work into the final story I DON'T know! I may find myself dropping out eventually, of course. Maybe I'll find one of the ficlets calls to be written out, but then maybe not! Don't know as yet what the future might bring.

Oh, a brilliant plan! Was your prompt "bottle" or "battle plan"?

Author's reply

Yesterday it was bottle; today it's bottle and wharf. Apparently this is going to be additive this year! I don't know how much further I'll be able to follow this when it's additive. Interesting concept, to add another element each day!

Cairistiona · 2 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

I can't imagine how hard it was for the Hobbits when Frodo decided to sail with the Three Keepers. This captures their sense of melancholy very well, but also shows their ability to keep on living life with a sense of joy. Nicely done.

Author's reply

For all the joy they have in the life they live, a piece of each one's heart had to have sailed with him, after all.

Cairistiona · 2 December 2008 · Chapter 2: Battle Plans

Ah, I want to see the fight!! Very well written ... you managed in a very few words to convey the tension of those moments before a battle. Well done!

Author's reply

Thanks, Cairistiona. Was trying the Henneth-Annun list's Advent calendar prompts this month, and apparently it's an additional element every day. So now bottles and wharves will be appearing in every story somehow! GAACK!

Virtuella · 2 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

*Sigh* You know, this is really nice, it is melancholy, but not too much so, and truly heart-warming.

Author's reply

Thank you so, Virtuella. And there's nothing wrong with moments of melancholy from time to time, as long as it doesn't become overwhelming. There is joy here, but the fulness of Sam's joy is never quite reached while he must be apart from the brother of his heart. I think. Had it not been for Frodo, it's likely Elanor would not have been born, and Aragorn would not have thought to give the Westmarches to the Hobbits, most likely, had he survived to become King, of course. And this is in sight of the Sea. Part of the hearts of all three of these went there with Frodo, after all.

inzilbeth · 1 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

Perfect! I doubt Frodo was ever far from any of their minds.

Author's reply

Oh, I agree, Inzilbeth. He was always a part of them now.

harrowcat · 1 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

Perfect Larner. These two know Sam even better than his family about this.

Author's reply

Oh, indeed, in some ways; but then they share the same experiences as he does far more than his family does. All three of them have an important part of their hearts dwelling to the West, after all.

shirebound · 1 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

I like the idea of these three being there to dedicate the new smial, and together remember their beloved Frodo.

Author's reply

I can't imagine Elanor would agree to have the dedication of her new home without Uncles Pippin and Merry being there; and I can't imagine the three of them being that close to the Sea without having thoughts about Frodo. Am glad you and I agree! Thanks for the feedback.

Antane · 1 December 2008 · Chapter 1: The Dedication

I shall raise my glass of orange juice to our dear ones since I don't drink anything stronger. :) To Frodo! And to Sam and to Pippin and to Merry! And everyone else! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I may get into the Chardonnay later tonight, and will second your toast. To the whole of the Fellowship!
