AACK! Absolutely not! No! No killing Aradunnon! *plugs my ears and closes my eyes* LALALALALALALA

Author's reply

LOL! Keep singing to yourself. Aradunnon is in a lot of trouble. Thank so much for the review--you cracked me up! :-)

daw the minstrel · 20 April 2009 · Chapter 8: Battles joined

I loved the moment when Thranduil wonders if he's capable of ordering orcs to be driven toward where his wife is. That village must be inhabited by determined elves. Actually, it was interesting that Thranduil doesn't know the details of the way orcs have been battled here. He must trust Aradunnon to deal with that completely. Tulus! He's certainly surprising the children with his commanding presence. When Galithil notices that Anastor and Noruil are booking it toward the flet, he might learn something. For once, they're doing the right thing. Remember that bloody orc sword, Galithil? Aaaand a cliffhanger ending. What fun.

Author's reply

Poor Thranduil--he's in for a rough next couple of chapters. I think given that Thranduil has had Aradunnon for so long, it has likely been a long time since he directly involved himself in the command of warriors. But once he has time to think about this particular tactic, he's not going to approve of it much (or at least hopefully that conversation will make the final cut because I like it). ;-) Galithil is young and invincible. Remember that feeling? But yes, you are so right. If even Anastor thinks it's dangerous/stupid/scary, it is. That cliff hanger was just nothing but gratuitous meanness, wasn't it? ;-) I couldn't help myself. Thanks so much for the reviews. I appreciate them so much!

perelleth · 18 April 2009 · Chapter 99999: Cast of characters

Very useful! I had forgotten that Engwe was Oropher's brother! And I had the notion that Maidhien was younger than her brother, but there it says she is Anastor's twin? As I said, a very useful reminder of who's who!

Author's reply

Yes, these character lists can be very helpful when you've got so many to keep track of. I even lose track of some of my smaller characters and have to look up their names sometimes. Too darn many warriors! ;-)

perelleth · 18 April 2009 · Chapter 7: Waiting on the edge

I'm sorry I am late. This was very exciting! First Dolwon and Dannennion are finding themselves confronted with their kin's stubborness, which they practice only too well. And being forced to draw example from the king and Aradunnon to convince the stubborn settlers? That must have killed them! The poor spies are amusing, torn between remainig or going to help the king and his brother.. and then finding themselves with LEgolas where he was least expected and in more danger!! At least they now could made up their minds. BUt I reallyliked the effectthat the NAzgul had on the elves. It was very believable, frightening, paralyzing, numbing. Dreadful! BUt now you have me most worried abouth galithil and MAidhen!!!!

Author's reply

No worries. With school and work, I was much later posting my update than I had intended. :-) I'm glad this chap came off as exciting and I hope the rest do as well. The action picks up from here on out quite a bit (I hope). :-) And yes, I rather like to think that D&D were choking a bit on their own words having to deal with Selwon. Turn about is fair play and all that. ;-) As daw mentioned, the Nazgul are a great enemy. Paralyzing, for those who never have seen them certainly, seems to describe it really well. What a horrible thing to face in an otherwise well planned battle. You should definitely be worried, I'm afraid. Thanks so much for the review. I really appreciate them!

Fantasia · 6 April 2009 · Chapter 7: Waiting on the edge

Marti, she has been hiding for a lot time, this is not the best moment for her to show up. Legolas at least is close to the spies, but where are the other children? so,let me see, Orcs, Nazgul, Marti, spies, traitors, missing children, rescuers....it is a recipe for disaster, I'm "waiting on the edge" for the next chapter. What is wrong with Dannenion and Dolwon? Were they really trying to help Thanduil? I guess that they really can see the danger and at the end they do care for thier people or it is another trap... Thanks, Fantasia

Author's reply

Hehe! Yeah, this is bad timing all around, isn't it. Definitely a recipe for disaster and we shall have one. Now that's an interesting question about D&D--and that's the reason why I left that conversation in the chapter. You have to wonder what D&D are really about. Just themselves? The southern forest? Is it just Thranduil they hate? How they'll finally turn out is something you'll have to wait to see. But that is a good question. :-) Thanks so much for the review! I appreciate them so much!

ziggy · 6 April 2009 · Chapter 7: Waiting on the edge

Oh this is so well done- the confusion and the waiting, the tension. Brilliant!

Author's reply

Thanks! I'm glad the confusion everyone is feeling came off ok. And that it seemed tense. As many times as I've read this, I'm too close to it to see any of that stuff any more. Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them! (And thanks sooo much for the PM about the formatting at FF--as soon as the stupid site lets me in, I'll fix it. It says its offline right now.)

Sulwing of Mirkwood · 5 April 2009 · Chapter 7: Waiting on the edge

Oh great! But what happened to Galathil if this is already Legolas? Not to mention Anastor and Noruil. And what WERE DnD doing and why? I say it again, I think Dolgailon is really very cool. Oh, yeah, and the Nazgul looks like it is going to be difficult. I'm very interested to see how everybody is going to get out of each situation! I really can't make up my mind about Dolwon and Dannenion. Good or bad or misguided or what? What they were, have they changed? What they are, will that change? You enjoy keeping everybody guessing, don't you? ;)

Author's reply

Well, those are exactly the questions I was hoping you'd be asking yourself, so good! :-) I'll just leave you with them for the next few days (and for the last ones, for the next few stories). Yes, I do enjoy keeping people guessing. Bad author! ;-) You know, if I start chatting, I'm going to say too much, so I am just going to say thanks so much for the wonderful review. :-)

Sulwing of Mirkwood · 5 April 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Ohhhh no! This chapter was so aptly named! Sometimes I despair completely of Galithil's sense. Poor Maidhien. The whole thing with that guard must have been like one of those nightmares when you know you have to do something but things keep happening to keep you from doing it...

Author's reply

I think there are going to be a lot of people, Galithil included, that are despairing of his sense very soon! :-) Hehe! You're right! That's exactly the nightmare going on here, wasn't it?! Yuck! Well, the nightmare is going to get worse--it's going to turn into the one with orcs in it! Thanks so much for the review!

daw the minstrel · 5 April 2009 · Chapter 7: Waiting on the edge

Well, well. Dannenion and Dolwon meet someone even more stubborn than they are. Under other circumstances, that could be amusing. But not with orcs sweeping down on the village, and the kids all headed in this direction. Loved watching Dolgailon control all those elven warriors with a flick of his arm. Too bad the Nazgul interfered with the trap. It's always been interesting to me that the Nazgul's primary weapon seems to be terror. Tolkien was clever about that. You're being very cagy about the identity of the spy. :-) Glilavan maybe? I'm not sure.

Author's reply

Yeah, even though I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked, I couldn't resist giving D&D a small taste of their own medicine. Maybe it will give them something to think about. I love the Nazgul (love to hate them...you know what I mean). I agree Tolkien had a really good idea with that. Elves seem to deal with it better, and so do seasoned Men, if you look through LotR. But people who have never seen them--at least at first, that is a whole different thing. :-) I'm being mean with that spy, aren't I. Well, you'll see next chapter. :-) Thanks so much for the review!

perelleth · 4 April 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

OK, I'm shaking my head here. A half truth is always worst than any other thing. The pot stirred is terrible! Right until *that* conversation Galithil was ready to remain. THe pot stirred and now he forgets what he said about being a silly thing and runs after the bad guys...with LEgolas on tow. I really admire you. I could not be writing all that, and I am having trouible reading and stopping myself from guessing what horrible things are going to happen. :-( Thrnaduil's surprise at the true state of the forst was very teling and I really like to see Dolgailon back. BUt all this has the marks of a great and kind of sorrowful confclit brewing. More, please.

Author's reply

Poor Galithil. He needs to know the whole story, that's the truth. He could deal with not being allowed to go just for the adventure of it when his father saw through that. He could deal with Anastor and Noruil calling him names. But put not knowing the whole story about Maidhien's parents on top of all that and it was just too much for him. And horrible things are going to happen because of it--some will be immediately obvious and others obvious only later. A few people here and there have commented they are glad to see Dolgailon back and I'm glad. He'll have a pretty big role in this from here out. :-) Thanks so much for the review, Perelleth. I really appreciate them! :-)

Dot · 2 April 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Please don't fire me as a reviewer! I'm so sorry I've got so far behind but I wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I'm reading and very much enjoying the story. It makes my day when you update. I'll get back on track again soon, I hope, but I didn't want you to think I'd just abandoned it. I really am sorry. This latest chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I'm half afraid to see what happens next, yet dying to know!

Author's reply

Hehehe! Dot you are awesome. No worries. I'm glad you are reading, but never feel pressured to review. It takes the fun out of reading. :-) I adore your reviews (and everyone else's) but I definitely know how RL demands absurd amounts of our precious ff time. ;-) The rest of this story should be pretty action-packed (or at least I hope it comes off that way), but it should make you happy to know that there will be no more eight-legged evils. ;-) In this story, anyway. Thanks so much!

Fantasia · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Never review it before, but I'm reading and for a long time...Poor Galithil, he only gets the half truth of all the events and everyone wants him to behave right, if they take the time to really talk to him, they will save themselves a lot of problem...After his Father telling him that he can not fall in love with Maidhien (BTW, he only opened his eyes, he was just blissfully ignorant that he was in love with her) and no one telling him what her father did, his logical reaction is to find out and head straight to danger, taking Legolas along with him...it is just a big misunderstanding and miscommunication mess.. How old are Legolas and his cousins if we compare them with Humans? I was glad to see Dolgailon, you don't write too much about him, and I remember him in your previous stories, when he wasn't married and got in trouble (don't remember now, but something about men in the forest and they sent him with his Aunt to apologize and almost get kidnapped in their way back) I also remember how betrayed he felt because Tulus's son, well I just wanted to say that I like his character and story. Keep posting, this is getting very interesting…Thank you

Author's reply

Wow it is fun to have reviews from new people! You are very right that the best way to get Galithil's cooperation is by giving him the whole story. He's not the type of person that reacts well to anything less. As we see here, because he really didn't even intend to go south, but he did it to find out about Maidhien's parents. Poor thing. This is one misunderstanding that people are going to pay dearly for. Legolas and Galithil are 34 and 35 respectively, so I imagine them around 13/4, more or less. Still the age where kids definitely don't make good choices consistently, but old enough to be learning to be adults. I'm glad you like Dolgailon. He will have a bigger part starting here, as you'll see. He will continue to play a part in GlÌlavan's betrayal. That story line is coming back to haunt us soon. Thanks so much for the review! That was a great surprise. Made my day! :-)

CandissD · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

I love this story! I cannot wait to see what kind of trouble they get into now. Poor Legolas - tried to get help and no one would listen so he went after Galithil himself.

Author's reply

I am so glad you are enjoying it. They will definitely be in plenty of trouble. Poor Legolas indeed. He truly does have the best of intentions here and things are just not going to work out well for him. Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them!

Elena Tiriel · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Oh, my... what a mess! I really wouldn't want to be Hallion right then, nor that guard at the front gate. If they had only listened and taken Legolas and Maidhien seriously.... And you know, I meant to ask you about that cave.... Maidhien is better at keeping the royal secrets than Hallion could ever have imagined. And Thranduil is in shock. And just realized that sending their wives to the villages was Not. A. Good. Idea. I guess reports just don't have the same impact as seeing what's going on yourself.... And the Orcs are massing.... Has anyone told you lately that you are cruel to your characters? - Barbara

Author's reply

Yes, this is a real mess isn't it? I definitely agree with you about being Hallion and that guard. I would not want to face Thranduil when this is all over. Some of the parts of Part Four, when the kids are still younger, that I didn't publish yet also involve Galithil making naughty use of that cave. I'll eventually clean some of those up and post them too. But yes, this was one of the worst uses of the cave, though it comes up at in at least one more critical juncture. Secret doors are great fun. :-) Thranduil is really shocked at seeing this area. I had fun imagining how someone in his position would react to seeing the results of his decisions and the ruin of someplace once so important to him. It must be horrible. But yes, this is a bad time to have the inexperienced in the south. Definitely a bad time. Has anyone told you lately that you are cruel to your characters? Hehe! I am only getting started! Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them!

Gwynhyffar · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Wow, Elliska. I hope you don't make us wait too long for an update! During the last chapter I was thinking what a stick-in-the-mud know-it-all Legolas was being. Now I'm thinking what fools he and his cousin are! Hopefully all the kids will survive to face their parents' wrath.

Author's reply

Hehehe! Legolas has had it with getting in trouble with Galithil but that isn't going to keep him from diving in after him (and paying the price for it). Poor kids. They really made bad choices this time. :-) And as for updates, if I leave the next few chapters as they are split up right now, they are all awful cliffhangers. Sorry! :-) Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them and I'm glad to hear from you.

daw the minstrel · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 6: Poor choices

Oh excellent. I've been watching for this all day. Boy, you could see Galithil's good intentions crumbling from the start. And he's like a bad angel, perched on Legolas's shoulder and whispering temptation in his ear. Of course, even when Good-boy Legolas intends to do the right thing, he gets drawn in. I like the little notion you slip in that Galithil sees himself and Legolas as less skilled with weapons than their mothers are. It's also an interesting tidbit that Aradunnon never punishes Galithil for missing lessons. I guess he sets priorities, and that's not one of them. It must have been really shocking for Thranduil to see the terrible changes in the forest and then the old capital. And that doesn't even touch the bad news about orcs massing to attack the villages. Did the Wood-elves feel some resentment that Angmar's evil was just pushed along to them, do you think? Hurry, Hallion! Hurry, Amglaur!

Author's reply

Hehe. Poor Galithil. This time he even admits what he's doing is stupid and he's still going to do it. :-) I can't criticize him because even now I open my mouth in meetings and say stuff while my mind is saying, 'shut up, you are causing trouble.' I guess I identify with Galithil sometimes. :-) I like the little notion you slip in that Galithil sees himself and Legolas as less skilled with weapons than their mothers are. I think the one thing Galithil is honest about is his weapons skills, since that is so important to him. And he would know his mother's skills fairly well--he's seen her gaming with his father often enough. The problem comes in not being able yet to accurately estimate enemies' skills, since he hasn't seen them. He's going to. It's also an interesting tidbit that Aradunnon never punishes Galithil for missing lessons. I guess he sets priorities, and that's not one of them. Hehe! With a kid like Galithil you'd have to pick your battles, I think. ;-) I think if Thranduil went south into the part of the forest that Sauron damaged, especially areas where he remembered living, that would have to be really difficult. I enjoyed thinking about what his reaction would be. Did the Wood-elves feel some resentment that Angmar's evil was just pushed along to them, do you think? Oh wow, I definitely think so! I mean, canon says the Witch-King shows up in Mordor years after Fornost falls (ten, if I'm remembering right w/o access to my books right now). Canon doesn't really say where he went in the interim, so I'm taking some liberty here assuming he went to his master in Mirkwood. But I would really be peeved about being the guy who had Sauron and now the Witch-King moving in. I'd be really bitter if my village was moving because of that. We'll see a bit of that growing, definitely. Thanks so much for the review daw! :-) I appreciate them so much!

Sulwing of Mirkwood · 22 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Bad Influences

Hey, this chapter was great and there wasn't even much action! I love Dolgailon! He's so cool! All I want to know is how Anastor, Noruil, Galathil, and Legolas (and Maidhien?) are going to try to sneak south...because I imagine that is coming up in the future, though some may go less willingly then others or only to keep trouble from happening. I still like Aradunnon, but he conducted his fatherly conversation very badly indeed. And I am becoming a Galathil/Maidhien-in-the-future shipper! Parentage isn't everything...besides I still have a secret hope for the two D's anyway. Oh, the anticipation...

Author's reply

I still like Aradunnon, but he conducted his fatherly conversation very badly indeed. LOL! I mean, this is Aradunnon here--giving advice on women! How could that possibly go well?! :-) Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! But seriously, in addition to being a total lost cause with women himself, Aradunnon also totally hangs on to grudges (after all, he still completely distrusts Tulus and he's the only one that appears to have repented) and Maidhien is Dannenion's daughter--no way is Aradunnon ever going to be convinced she'd be an appropriate family member. He's too stubborn. And I am becoming a Galathil/Maidhien-in-the-future shipper! Good, *sly-smile* because it is very central to the future plot. besides I still have a secret hope for the two D's anyway. Even bigger sly smile, but no more hints on that--it's too important. All I want to know is how Anastor, Noruil, Galathil, and Legolas (and Maidhien?) are going to try to sneak south... Oh you'll certainly see eventually. If I can ever get a chance to edit the next chapter. ;-) Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate it so much!

perelleth · 21 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Bad Influences

Wow, this is heralding BIG Trouble! And I really like the relationship between Galithil and his father, and that his father has not given up his old gaming habits, despite Thranduil's frown! As i said before, this part of the family is very charming, and to me far more complex because none of them seem to have reached the level of self control that Thranduil exerts, so they are all more prone to trouble! BUt i'm really worried. Galithil is heading for trouble and not exactly knowing how to rein in his emotions, his feelings, his motivations, all good and bad. And he has rescued Maidhien twice (I really loved the detail of ARadunnon with the llittle girl... bet he would have loved to have a little girl of his own.. :-) And I ahve to laugh at DOlgailon know9ing about the tapestry... and THrnaduil using the secret entrance. Sigh. A spy, miscreants, the evil woman in the forest and things stirring down there.

Author's reply

Aradunnon is a fun character--so much a product of being raised in Greenwood, no matter who his father was. And Galithil loves that side of him. He (and Legolas) also love that proper Dolgailon knew about hiding behind the tapestry too. I had originally included that part of the dialogue where Dolgailon reveals that and we see Galithil's reaction, but it got cut because this chapter was so long. Galithil loves learning stuff like that about his brother. :-) But yeah, you should be worried. Obviously nothing good is going to come of Galithil being tempted to go south alone. For anyone. Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate them so much! :-)

Elena Tiriel · 18 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Bad Influences

Curiouser and curiouser! So Legolas was right that the only way Thranduil would let those two malcreants go to their former villages is to catch them out? Smart kid! And Galithil does not like Maidhien in that way? And he can't imagine ever thinking about a maiden "that way." Hee hee hee! Naive kid. I loved the details about Thranduil's mother weaving tapestries to document Oropher's life, and his wife doing so for his life. It shows how the Elves' everyday life was graced by art. Anastor and Noruil are Trouble. Incarnate. Am I right that they are going to entice Galithil into wrongdoing, even if he has the best of intentions? And that Legolas will then become involved? And Legolas finally put his foot down. Go Legolas! Wonder how long that will last.... I think my favorite line was Legolas watched Galithil go from angry, to concerned, to amused, to sincere, flitting from one emotion to the next like a bee in a bed of wild flowers. What vivid imagery! Nicely done, Elliska! - Barbara

Author's reply

Legolas knows his father! ;-) And poor Galithil. He does like Maidhien. Of course he does. Boys are just so amusing to me at that age where they are determined not to 'like' girls. Even kids these days seem to go through this stage where they refuse to admit they've noticed the opposite gender. That's cute. I'm glad you like the bit about the tapestries. Since Dieneryn and Lindomiel both weave, it seemed a logical way to decorate the Great Hall to me. And I am glad you liked that line. When I first wrote the dialogue that inspires it, it amused me because it is so like Galithil and his father and I was trying to imagine how someone who was angry would react. It would be jarring to watch someone cycle through a whole range of emotions when you are trying to be serious. The line was the result. I liked it too, enough to leave it even though it does pull the reader out of Galithil's POV a bit too much. :-) Anastor and Noruil are Trouble. Incarnate. Am I right that they are going to entice Galithil into wrongdoing, even if he has the best of intentions? And that Legolas will then become involved? Oh you absolutely are. :-) Yes, we go back to action for the rest of the story from here on out. Trouble for all involved.

daw the minstrel · 17 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Bad Influences

Galithil's admiration for his father is charming here. And the boy is at least smart enough to see that Anastor and Noruil are heading for big trouble. Realizing he does sound like Legolas must have shaken him a little. LOL. I was relieved when Dolgailon showed up, though, because I was afraid Galithil would rise to the "coward" bait. I'm stil not sure he won't. The discussion about Maidhien was awkward, but good for Aradunnon for making the attempt. Galithil probably did need to have his eyes opened to what others, including Maidhien, might think. Legolas is very clever to guess his father's reason for allowing Dannenion and Dolwon to travel from the capital. All that exposure to how his father governs has evidently had an effect. I predict the spy and the kids will have interesting encounters.

Author's reply

Poor Galithil. He really is smarter than Anastor and Noruil, even if he is still much more impetuous than his other cousins. And he is the only one amongst them that has been south, so he has some real idea how dangerous it is. Yeah, all that's nice but... I am not a parent, but I think The Conversation would be really hard to do. Galithil has to be the only person to not see he likes Maidhien. Legolas definitely does. Galithil does need to think about it because can you picture Thranduil's reaction to having Dannenion in his family? Not good. Gonna have fun with that. ;-) I predict the spy and the kids will have interesting encounters. You betcha! ;-) I hope they seem interesting, at any rate. :-) Thanks so much for the review, Daw! I appreciate them so much!

perelleth · 14 March 2009 · Chapter 4: Making Descisions

Ok, at last! I read the chapter at the beginning of the week but did not have the chance to sit down and review properly. That tapestry is oging to cause a lot fo trouble! I could not hold back my chuckles just figuring the children packed there and listening to the terrible tale! But I really liked this glance at the events in eriador seen by the other side of the mountains and the river. Indeed the elves of greenwood did not take part on those event, snot even when Lorien sent in help of beiseged Imladris, and yet the outcome will no doubt affect them. But it was wondrous! The tension and implications and how the children noticed by the place in which Araduronn was seated the gravity of what was going on!!! galithil is surely going to be a pain for his father! And jsut if it ws not enough that in his eagerness and mixed motivations he has a reason to worry, Dolgailon reopens the wound of his beong sent to the capital. This part of THranduil's family is wonderfully complex, Elliska. Araduronn sounds as hote headed as his adar, and yet he really made me proud when he quickly decided to pull his village back. And then I really liked his patient conversation with his hurried son. And yet, troble is ahead for all of them, I fear. Well. I'm waiting.

Author's reply

So sorry to be so long in answering this. I was without Internet for a bit. I am catching up on online life today. :-) You're right. The tapestry is going to cause trouble down the line! But it would be completely irresistible, don't you think?! I had fun showing the Mirkwood Elves' reactions to the fall of Angmar. It had to be hopeful and terrifying all at once, because as you said, the Wise understand these are events that will affect everyone. galithil is surely going to be a pain for his father! Boy are you right. I love Thranduil's family, but times are getting darker for them. Thanks so much for the review! I really appreciate them. Now I am off to do some reading myself. :-)

Elena Tiriel · 13 March 2009 · Chapter 4: Making Descisions

Ah, a good character-building chapter (am in the midst of writing one of those for my WIP, so I'm especially interested in how well you pulled it off). We really get to see the differences between the children, in how they act.... each in his or her unique way. Galithil was perfectly happy to shave some of the truth when they were apologizing to their parents, but Legolas was not.... And Anastor and Noruil reacted, as usual, like jerks when Galithil told them about the planned hunt. And Eirenil is so prim, but doesn't hesitate to eavesdrop when she thinks (rightly) that something important is being discussed. And Aradunnon surprised the heck out of his brother. I like how you play with point-of-view here. For example, it never occurred to me that "Last King" was such a silly name to saddle an heir with. And the dry historic recounting of the fall of the North-kingdom and the flight of the Witch-king in the Appendices don't have nearly the emotional power that you imbue them with, as the Elves learn of them for the first time. Nicely done, and I'm glad you survived your exams intact..... - Barbara

Author's reply

I am so sorry to be so long in answering this. I was on a little mini vacation and I forgot my laptop. :-) I like writing 'character' chapters. They are fun. I'm really glad the differences between the children, especially Legolas and Galithil come out ok. And I amused myself with the idea of Eirienil already being behind the tapestry listening. She so would do it though, for something she wanted to know. ;-) I also had fun with the Last King name. If you didn't know why he had that name, it would seem horrible! Poor guy. Thanks so much for the review! I appreciate it so much!

Sulwing of Mirkwood · 8 March 2009 · Chapter 3: Unexpected Encounters

You're going to be tired of hearing from me soon... :) I was just looking at the other reviews and I wanted to lend my sympathy with the rest to the poor, poor men. ;) Also...YAY! One of my guesses was right! Though not completely, I confess, because I really was thinking that the men would be evil. Whatever. Oh, I also wanted to apologize for using the wrong verb. Something about "let" instead of "leave." I am an insane perfectionist when it comes to things like that. It rankles me when I find errors AFTER I post a review. Of course, then, half the time I mispell words on purpose...okay, whoa, stop. SO SORRY. I JUST GOT COMPLETELY RANDOM ON YOU, WENT OFF ON SOME TANGENT. I APOLOGIZE! :( I love Interrupted Journeys!!!!!!!!! (There, that's better, right?)

Author's reply

Never! :-) Yes, the poor, poor men had to have been stressed out by the end of this chap with elves dropping out of trees left and right. ;-) Good thing for Legolas and cousins they weren't evil Men. Though eventually in other stories we'll be back to evil men again, so the other part of your guess will come true eventually too. Hehehe! Typos. You are speaking to the queen of typos. And I don't think 'leave someone to do something is bad English, is it?' Not in my part of the US, anyway. :-) The wonderful thing about the review function at SoA is the ability to have a few 'tangents' every now and again. They are fun!

Sulwing of Mirkwood · 8 March 2009 · Chapter 4: Making Descisions

Well, not as much action in this one, but still very entertaining. Okay, so Legolas doesn't always make the best decisions. Just when the elflings get off easy on one misdemeanor, they go commit another one. They are going to get caught eavesdropping one day, and it won't be pretty. Oh, wow, I was so not ready for Aradunnon to actually agree with Thranduil on the village issue. I guess he couldn't put off the inevitable. By the way, I like how you tie up the history of ME with your story; it sort of gives it a more, um, cannonish feel? Er, realish? Or something like that. Hope you get the drift. ;) Hope your exams went well. I just finished mine the other day! :) Spring break! Hmmm...how to spend it...oh I know! Stay up all night reading LotR fanfiction! What can I say? I'm obsessed! ;)

No this chapter (and the next one) will be a bit of set up before things go drastically downhill again for everyone involved. :-) Okay, so Legolas doesn't always make the best decisions. Just when the elflings get off easy on one misdemeanor, they go commit another one. They are going to get caught eavesdropping one day, and it won't be pretty. Hehehe! You are sooo right. There will be more conversation about that in the next chapter, but there will be more in another story too. Oh, wow, I was so not ready for Aradunnon to actually agree with Thranduil on the village issue. LOL again! Neither was Thranduil. I think news of Arnor falling to the Witch King would have to be a bit of an eye-opener for everyone involved. You can deny in your mind the seriousness of a situation if you try really hard--right up until you are confronted with a reality like this. It bothered Thranduil, but it really made Aradunnon think. By the way, I like how you tie up the history of ME with your story; Awesome! I love doing that too, but it is a balance. Trying to use things, but not overwork them. I just finished mine the other day! That feels good, doesn't it!! I have Spring Break next week and a big long list of fanfic to catch up on. Yes, it is very good! :-) Thanks so much for the review!

So so cool! I looove this story! :) Thranduil is very cool fighting and his relationship with his brother is very amusing... Legolas is so very wise (in this chapter at least) and would certainly have made his adar proud if he had seen what happened. I like how in the beginning Legolas leaves Berior to do the tracking and instead pays attention to their natural surroundings...it's sort of like how he lets Aragorn to do the tracking in the Two Towers. Finally, sorry I haven't reviewed in a while but I was dancing along my merry elven way when suddenly, from out of nowhere, popped REAL LIFE. :( Okay, now I'll go read the next chapter... :)

when suddenly, from out of nowhere, popped REAL LIFE. :( Yeah, real life has a lot of nerve getting into our important time, doesn't it! I was feeling that last week with school too. I love Thranduil and so I absolutely adore getting to write about Warrior!Thranduil. And I think you're right Legolas did a really great job in this chapter. Thranduil would be proud. it's sort of like how he lets Aragorn to do the tracking in the Two Towers. Very true! Cool! Thanks so much for the review!
