walkerskye · 23 June 2010 · Chapter 16: Secrecy

okay, I know I can't ask too much, I'm glad you're writing more about Trotter elsewhere, but I've been watching and waiting to hear more of THIS story too. can't wait to see where you go with this.

Author's reply

*grin* It's always lovely to hear from you! I hope to be updating this one frequently over the next eight weeks, as-- like "Trotter"-- it won the poll as my Finish-a-thon fic this year!

GamgeeFest · 23 June 2010 · Chapter 16: Secrecy

Mirime seems to have rectified the situation. The Elves will not lightly disregard her warning. Now to see what comes of this all.

Author's reply

No, they'll take a warning from one of the Maiar very seriously!

GamgeeFest · 23 June 2010 · Chapter 15: Encounter Among the Trees (part 2)

Tuk seems to have made quite the impression, on more than just the Elves. It's easy to see why Mirime was impressed with him.

Author's reply

He's an impressive young hobbit! But then he's the source of the gene pool for all of our hobbit heroes, so he's got to be rather special!

Virtuella · 22 June 2010 · Chapter 15: Encounter Among the Trees (part 2)

Oh, I'm so glad you've picked this up again! Interesting indeed, and delightful to imagine an early friendship between Elves and Hobbits.

Author's reply

JRRT hints that some of the hobbit customs and words can be traced back to Elves-- they had to have some early contact with them. And considering their location in their earliest days, the Elves of Greenwood seem to be the most logical.

Andrea · 21 June 2010 · Chapter 15: Encounter Among the Trees (part 2)

“Well, Cousin Tûk, that was interesting!” exclaimed one of the other hobbits. It was, indeed! So, now that they have met each other they might even develop a friendship. I'm not so sure, however, that Tuk can withstand "the call" of the forest! I wonder what will happen then...

Author's reply

We will see! I hope to be updating this fairly frequently now.

Larner · 21 June 2010 · Chapter 15: Encounter Among the Trees (part 2)

I love seeing her spying on these so-small folk in this way, and seeing the interactions between them and Thranduil's folk. Excellent!

Author's reply

Yes, their first encounter with the Fair Folk!

GamgeeFest · 27 March 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

I see that Mirime was meant to take hobbit form! She has just the right sense of humor for it! Most intriguing. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Author's reply

I think you are right! I'm sure that's part of what attracts her to them!

Baggins Babe · 16 February 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

I always squeak happily when I find an update for this story, Dreamflower! I love the whole idea that one of the Maia would have fallen in love with a hobbit (who wouldn't?). She certainly has a sense of mischief but perhaps she wants the Elves and hobbits to get to know each other.

Author's reply

"perhaps she wants the Elves and hobbits to get to know each other." I think you are quite right!

Virtuella · 12 February 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

That's an interesting scene, quite different from the others and indeed unlike any I've read before.

Author's reply

It was different for me-- I had no idea what Mirime was going to do until suddenly she did it!

Andrea · 12 February 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

That's interesting! I did not expect her to do that! There might be two reasons: She wanted to protect Tuk (unconsciously!), or she wanted the hobbits and elves to meet and come to know each other better. Let's see what will be the outcome!

Author's reply

Neither did I! She just decided to give things a little push. I think she may have wished to see how the hobbits and the Elves would react to one another...

Larner · 11 February 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

Seems we've heard that command before! Heh! It's one that Frodo particularly must know well. She wanted the Elves to be noted by the Hobbits! Now, to see what comes of the meeting.

Author's reply

Well, it's one of the few Elvish phrases I know, LOL! But it seemed appropriate for the occasion! Yes, she did indeed want them noticed...

Celeritas · 11 February 2010 · Chapter 14: Encounter Among the Trees (part 1)

So glad you've updated this! I think what I liked most about this installment was Mirime's "spirit of mischief," which immediately added something fresh and almost youthful to her character--it was unexpected, but it fit her, the way that any Powers should be simultaneously familiar and strange. I also like the fact that she did something proactive... though what it will lead to I guess I'll have to wait and find out!

Author's reply

Yes, Mireme rather surprised me, as well! I am learning about her as I go, and she is revealing some interesting personality traits!

Andrea · 1 December 2009 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

Tûk was the boldest of them all. The fount of all Tookishness indeed! And undoubtedly the first Took who ever had an adventure! I wished this chapter would not have ended after 300 words, though ;-)

GamgeeFest · 29 November 2009 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

Sounds like Tuk was quite the adventurer, going into the Greenwood! No wonder Mirime took notice of him.

Author's reply

Yep-- he's the fount of all Tookishness! How could he help but charm her!

Kitty · 29 November 2009 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

Ah, now Adamanta's story is beginning to get interesting! While Bilbo and Frodo may know that bit about the beginning of their race, the part about Tûk ought to be fascinating. I really look forward to learn how these two got together and how she told him about her true identity!

Author's reply

Yes, I know how things need to go, it's getting them into 300 word chunks that are more or less self-contained that takes time...

Virtuella · 26 November 2009 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

Ah, mushrooms were a favourite from the dawn of time then? Very apt!

Author's reply

Absolutely! *grin* Hobbits have always had a passion for mushrooms "exceeding even the greediest likings of the Big Folks"!

Larner · 26 November 2009 · Chapter 13: And So It Begins...

How wonderful a description of the Fallohides, although I understand that Tolkien commented that of the four Travellers Pippin was the fairest haired. But to know that Frodo strongly resembles the original Tuk is delightful!

Author's reply

This is very far back in time, and the bloodlines of the Fallohides are not yet scattered among the other clans, and hair color is less varied within the clans. Pippin's description of being almost golden-haired is only in the unpublished epilogue-- which is years later. Perhaps his hair got lighter over the decades...

Armariel · 15 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

My but this recipe sounds good, and I'm not even that keen on mushrooms..... Hope to see more of this tale soon! ~~~~~{~@

Author's reply

It really is quite delicious... And the new chapter is up.

Armariel · 15 November 2009 · Chapter 6: Chip the Glasses and Smash the Plates!

I picked this story almost at random from the list the other day, and was instantly captivated. It's delightful, so far. Now to get to the next part.... ~~~~~{~@

Author's reply

I'm so glad you are enjoying it!

Kitty · 14 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

Adamanta certainly knows how to make a Hobbit happy - cooking mushroom stew! Frodo's comment "You certainly cook like a hobbit." is certainly the biggest compliment he can make ;) Now Frodo's last question is one I'd love to know the answer to, too! I have to admit I am quite curious about the answer.

Author's reply

Sorry to be so late in replying! Adamanta is beginning to answer their questions...

Virtuella · 10 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

What a delicoious chapter! The spinach and pear salad sounds particularly nice! :D

Author's reply

Yes, just as I described: baby spinach, thin slices of pear, some dried cranberries or other dried berries, a few chopped nuts (I use pecans, but walnuts or other nuts would work). Dress with a little oil and vinegar... *grin* Glad you liked!

GamgeeFest · 4 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

Now *that* is an excellent question and one I am very eager to have answered. Someone must have had suspicions at least, or where did the rumors come from? Sounds like a delicious meal, too!

Author's reply

Yes, indeed. We are finally beginning to come to the heart of the story... (And I got quite hungry writing about this chapter...)

Antane · 4 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

I love that she made them mushroom stew - home cooking indeed! :) *hugs her* I think she knows Frodo very well. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Well, perhaps she is able to surmise some things about him, from her knowledge of his ancestor... She definitely knows him rather better than he would expect.

Andrea · 4 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

Frodo gave a smile of dreamy contentment. "I don't think I've had mushroom stew like that since I was a small child. My mother used to make it like that." That was a success! But it was only the first step. I think Adamanta has still a good deal of speaking to do. And I'm curious to know how she'll accomplish that.

Author's reply

We are going to begin to get to the heart of the matter soon, alas, 300 words at a time!

Larner · 4 November 2009 · Chapter 12: Home Cooking

Ah, a meal fit for Hobbit heroes, and a good preparation for the talk to come. Lovely!

Author's reply

Indeed! *grin* 8-D
