demeter d · 7 August 2012 · Chapter 54: A Lesson for Adamanta, (part 1)

Oh, the poor dear! I have a friend who is from Germany. She married a second generation Mexican-American serviceman, then came here with him to live. She knew how to cook German food, but the only places she could get ingredients for that, thirty years ago here, tended to be expensive delicatessens! Not on an enlisted man's salary, thank you. She threw herself on her immigrant Mother-in-Love's mercy, and begged cooking lessons. By the time I met her, half a dozen or so years of marriage later, Hilde could make the BEST pan of Enchiladas! I have a notion that the thing a Hobbit mother would like best next to cooking would be teaching her family to cook!

Author's reply

*nods* I did learn to cook from my mother, but I learned far more tricks and new things from my mother-in-law! And I agree about Hobbits! Skill as a cook would be highly valued, and passing it down would be considered almost a sacred obligation.

Larner · 7 August 2012 · Chapter 54: A Lesson for Adamanta, (part 1)

What a disappointment for her! I'm glad she cheated but the once, though.

Author's reply

So am I. I think she learned that the secrets of hobbit cooking could not be achieved with shortcuts, and also that her power was not there to be used lightly.

GamgeeFest · 4 August 2012 · Chapter 53: Lunch at Adamanta's Hole

That is a high compliment indeed, though I'm sure Sam would be embarrassed by it. :) Frodo's learned a trick or two from Pippin, it seems. Can't wait to hear the tale!

Author's reply

Sam's always embarrassed by compliments, I think. It's just part of his nature. Frodo knew who the best wheedler in the family was-- he got wheedled often enough himself! I hope her tale lived up to your expectations!

Virtuella · 3 August 2012 · Chapter 53: Lunch at Adamanta's Hole

All I can say is, I'm glad I've had dinner already, otherwise I'd be very hungry now!

Author's reply

LOL! I make myself hungry sometimes!

Andrea · 2 August 2012 · Chapter 53: Lunch at Adamanta's Hole

LOL! Pippin would like that scene. And he would say that he himself is better at it ;-)

Author's reply

Yep. You are right! And he'd be listening just as intently for the story!

Larner · 2 August 2012 · Chapter 53: Lunch at Adamanta's Hole

Ah, but she has managed to attract the attention of a Hobbit loremaster of sorts, and I love that he's using Pippin's ploys on her. How he must bring back memories of her own children!

Author's reply

Yes, Frodo always wants to know! *grin* I think when Frodo was small, his own ploys were probably much like Pippin's! I always think that their natural personalities were very similar, only Frodo's was tempered by the loss of his parents at first, and by the Ring later on. I'm sure he does remind her of her own children!

Virtuella · 2 August 2012 · Chapter 52: Good Things Come to Those Who Bait

Not realised he missed elevenses! Ah, there's more to that frodo than meets the eye! ;-) It's a lovely morning here just now, so this was the perfect story to waken up to!

Author's reply

*grin* There's always more to our lad than meets the eye! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Larner · 1 August 2012 · Chapter 52: Good Things Come to Those Who Bait

The title has me grinning! Aha--still another fishing story--this seems the month for it!

Author's reply

I had loads of fun thinking up the title! Ever since I mentioned the little River in the Vale, I figured Frodo would want to go fishing there!

GamgeeFest · 1 August 2012 · Chapter 52: Good Things Come to Those Who Bait

A lovely morning fishing! And he didn't notice missing elevenses, fitting for the lad who would read through meals as a child. ;)

Author's reply

Yes, and someone who tends to get engrossed in one activity, will usually do the same with others!

Antane · 1 August 2012 · Chapter 52: Good Things Come to Those Who Bait

Sweet! I love that he is enjoying his home away from home. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

He truly is enjoying himself, and getting a chance to do some things he hasn't done in a while!

Linda Hoyland · 31 July 2012 · Chapter 0: Prologue: Behind the Rumour

What a lovely and plausible idea about Yavanna's handmaiden!

Author's reply

Thanks! It had long seemed to me that the most logical explanation for the Took "fairy wife" was one of the minor Maia! I'm glad that you find it plausible as well!

Virtuella · 24 July 2012 · Chapter 51: Hole Sweet Hole

I hadn't realised how far I had fallen behind with this. Some delightful chapters here. I very much like the idea of Adamanta building herself a smial. If she took on the body of a hobbit, it needs a proper hobbit home! And yet this reflects a different world, one not as provincial as the Shire, but where folks of all size mix. Nicely done.

Author's reply

Yes, this hole reflect the place she lives now; not the Vale, or even the Shire, but a place where her hobbit-self can live in comfort while accommodating guests of other sizes.

GamgeeFest · 21 July 2012 · Chapter 51: Hole Sweet Hole

Will she have neighbors soon, I wonder? ;)

Author's reply

I don't know yet-- she hasn't told me! I was very surprised when she told me she wanted her own hole!

Andrea · 20 July 2012 · Chapter 51: Hole Sweet Hole

In other words: A smial in which hobbits and elves can live comfortably. A great idea! She will have lots of guests.

Author's reply

Yes-- she knows she will have Elven guests as well as Bilbo and Frodo, so she has planned accordingly.

Larner · 20 July 2012 · Chapter 51: Hole Sweet Hole

What a lovely sounding smial! I suspect all will be most comfortable there!

Author's reply

I think it will be very comfortable. As JRRT puts it..."it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort..." *grin*

I'll be very interested to hear if you do fix it becsaue buying a tablet is high on my shopping list but I've always been put off by possible lack of GIMP support.Good luck!

skLmKWtFFZWy · 15 July 2012 · Chapter 3: The Tookish Inquisition

Brother rightly plecas some things in perspective and says some important words, but the most important one is missing: SORRY. Even though it is true that things must be placed in context, and the evils of the Inquisition are often completely overblown, there is simply no doubt that the Inquisition WAS responsible for countless atrocities not only against invading Muslims but also for Marranos Jews, often converted to Catholicism by force, whose only crime was to try to retain some of their ancient Jewish customs that had been, after all, instituted by God Himself. Can the cruel expulsion of ALL Jews from Spain in 1492 be justified under any circumstance? It seems to me that in this case no apologies makes for a very bad policy and very un-catholic attitude. Did the Lord not teach that humility (and not triumphalism) is a virtue? Instead of denying or sweeping away the sins of our forefathers, might it not be more Christ-like to just say sorry'?Pope John-Paul II began this process of humble repentance, but it sure still has a long way to go ArielCatholics for Israel (www.catholicsforisrael.com)[]

AvulvIsyYM · 15 July 2012 · Chapter 37: Adamanta's Children: Briar Rose

Exactly right Josh. I don't think there are many products left to enrsdoe from that era.@Stinky Pete Sutter has been given a crapload of money to produce Sons, while Weiner had to beg and scrape to create Mad Men. If he wants to be compensated for making AMC into one of the top channels in America, let him. I am the biggest fan of SoA, less a fan of Sutter.

Andrea · 14 July 2012 · Chapter 50: Hole is Where the Heart Is

What a wonderful idea! And the location seems to be perfect for building a smial. Who would have thought that! So, Frodo's and Bilbo's fear that she might lose interest in hobbits was completely unsubstantiated :-)

Author's reply

Clearly Adamanta thought of it, LOL! And yep, completely unsubstantiated! *grin*

curiouswombat · 13 July 2012 · Chapter 50: Hole is Where the Heart Is

What a lovely idea - and what an excellent project to keep both Bilbo and Frodo occupied.

Author's reply

I think so! 8-)

Antane · 12 July 2012 · Chapter 50: Hole is Where the Heart Is

A home away from home... It may be painful at first but it will be so lovely. And won't Sam be surprised too when he sees it! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Oh, yes! I am looking forward to seeing how gobsmacked Sam will be when he meets her, as well as when he sees the hobbit hole!

Larner · 12 July 2012 · Chapter 50: Hole is Where the Heart Is

Ah--what a gift to her--and in its way to them as well! It sounds perfect for the Hobbits they are at heart! No wonder Frodo's heart twists within him!

Author's reply

Yes, this will be a gift of sorts to them all.

Larner · 11 July 2012 · Chapter 49: Adamanta's Announcement

Oh, but THAT is a momentous decision! Lovely news!

Author's reply

It is quite a decision, and she is making very clear where her true heart lies!

Larner · 6 July 2012 · Chapter 48: Life By the Sea

How wonderful their whole lives must have been. Both fulfilled in most ways, and finding joy in the company of others, and particularly these two women they most likely never thought on much in their old lives.

Author's reply

Yes, they are finding a new fulfillment in their new place in the world, and finding new friends along with it!

Larner · 6 July 2012 · Chapter 47: Understanding

Yes, both now know that their children did well by themselves, even if Celebrian will not see her daughter again until after the remaking of the world. And for Adamanta to realize how well her own progeny have done by the world is a gift beyond measure.

Author's reply

Absolutely; they have a lot in common, these two. And Adamanta's encounter with Bilbo and Frodo is truly a gift for all concerned.
