Agape4Gondor · 1 April 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Hooray! For Merry and Frodo! The folk of the Shire just did not comprehend the sacrifice.....

Author's reply

No, most of them never did appreciate what was done "out there" and what that meant for the Shire.

Agape4Gondor · 1 April 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

Slat that woman hard on the face!!!!

Author's reply

She would deserve it! Ah, dear Lobelia! And at the moment she thinks she's getting away with it!

Agape4Gondor · 1 April 2009 · Chapter 28: Spring of Memories

Indeed, this was lovely. I too would love to go to that field and 'see' where all had come after the battle to refresh and prepare for the greatest day Middle-earth had seen in a very long time!

Author's reply

I would love to do so, too, Agape. And instead we must visit it with our reading and writing! Thank you so much!

Andrea · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 31: The Debate

Frodo made the right choice in the end, at least from my point of view. It was a difficult choice, which he delayed for as long as possible. But in the end yesterday as well as tomorrow were unreachable. *Today* was when the decision had to be made. I liked these drabbles very much. Thank you, Larner :)

Author's reply

Yes, indeed--today is what we have to work with in the now, and a lesson hard learned by our Frodo. It was a joy to write these, but also a stress, and I've let other works languish too long. Didn't join the "Finish-athon," but perhaps ought to have done so. Now--can I actually get something DONE? Thank you so, Andrea!

Andrea · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Bravo, Merry! Merry's response shows that Fred and the four travellers think in completely different dimensions! Fred is only concerned with himself, his shop and maybe the Shire. But Frodo saved the world!!! I don't think it likely though, that Fred understands the full meaning of Merry's words! It's like "casting pearls before swine". But it had to be said :)

Author's reply

Merry's eyes have been opened to much more than the Shire, while Fred's not had that opportunity. I suppose we can't judge him too harshly. But at least one common Hobbit from the Bucklands should know Frodo did something extraordinary out there! Thanks so, Andrea. I love Merry here, and he's the one who I'm certain would say such a thing to someone like Fred Oldbuck.

Antane · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 31: The Debate

That must have been such a agonizing choice and he made the right one for hope and Hope, if you take my meaning, were both there, one awaiting to welcome him, one he would await and welcome. But how terrible until he knew down to his heart and soul that it was right. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Yes, a painful decision, born of all the lessons he who was made wise by experience had ever taken in. But the right one in the end, of course. And the better part of his joy will be returned to him, once he is ready to embrace it. Thanks so for following these, Antane.

Cairistiona · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 31: The Debate

Very thoughtful look at what must have been going through Frodo's mind as he considered whether to sail or not.

Author's reply

Thank you so, Cairistiona. Yes--accepting that one cannot remain in the past or live in the future without welcoming today is difficult--and for him to find that fulfillment he must sail. One project down--four more to work toward completion!

Kitty · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 31: The Debate

Yes, that's what Frodo must have pondered before deciding to sail. Thank you so much, I enjoyed this series of ficlets!

Author's reply

I do believe you are right, Kitty. And thank you so for following them with me! Now to post these last few on LJ, and get back to my longer tales, which have languished too long now. Although I am much further along in the next chapter of "Stirring Rings!" Perhaps I'll be ready to post it today!

Kitty · 31 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Such an idiot ... *grumble* Without leaving the Shire and learning a thing or two about courage, about fighting and strategy these four would have been only four more intimidated Hobbits - and I don't want to think about what would have happened to Frodo if he had been there with the Ring. But of course, one can't expect Fred to understand so much logic :/

Author's reply

Well, he's not had the chance to grow they have known, both literally without and within. You're right that it's likely these would have been little enough without the stretching the quest gave them, probably indeed a few more frightened, intimidated Hobbits before Lotho and Saruman's Big Men. But Fred's not to understand that as yet, I fear. Thank you so!

By dhip or by grave, with hope or with out. Decisions, decisions! More please, Lynda (Yes, I know this is a little flipant, but it is 10:25 and nearly time for bed!)

Author's reply

The last one in this series, although you know there WILL be more! Heh!

Celeritas · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 31: The Debate

Very nice clincher, since so many of these (all?) deal with Frodo Baggins. I particularly liked the "tomorrow"... "today"--since Frodo's getting increasingly "elvish" I think his perception of time would be changing.

Author's reply

No, not quite all dealt with Frodo, but certainly a good majority of them did. Yes, I agree about his appreciation of Elvish time-sense changing. Thanks so for following all of these! Now, to get back to OTHER projects!

Celeritas · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Good for Merry! I'd buy him a drink for that, but I don't think I'm old enough by Shire reckoning of ages.

Author's reply

Well, Pippin was drinking in the inns at twenty-eight, and appeared to be well aware of the quality of beer at the Golden Perch in Stock. I doubt it would have been too much of a problem! Heh! As for me--don't know if the card folks in the Shire, but I doubt they'd do so with me--am definitely looking my age!

Lindelea · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Merry's comeback has to be one of the best I've heard in a long time! (Leave it to that hobbit to find the right word at the right time... LOL!) (Though on second thought perhaps that hasty, almost thoughtless response left Frodo wincing. Poor Merry.)

Author's reply

Merry had the right word, although Fred is unlikely to understand, and as you noted Frodo is wincing terribly! Ah, but such is life! Well, the last drabble for this month is finished, written, and posted. I hope all enjoy it, as it's quite angsty. Oh--rehearsal for concert? Ooh! I'll try to see about lunch.... Got Tales from the Perilous Realm today and The Maps of Middle Earth--now have full representation from both Alan Lee and John Howe. The former is actually just a compilation of Tree and Leaf, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, Roverandom, and Smith of Wooten Major, so it's not like I don't have the works separately, of course. What makes it worthwhile is that Lee illustrated it. The maps were done by Howe, and has commentary by Brian Sibley. Life continues on in fits and starts, of course.... Thanks so, Lindelea.

6336 · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

Yes, indeed! More please, Lynda

Author's reply

One more in this series, and as Dawn Fegalund had the prompt posted early, I have it already written and posted! This series is now officially closed!

Antane · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

You tell him, Merry! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I agree, Antane! Thanks!

Cairistiona · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

“He was saving the world.” Perfect answer!

Author's reply

I would indeed think it was indeed the perfect answer, Cairistiona. Thanks!

shirebound · 30 March 2009 · Chapter 30: Accusation

*claps and whistles*

Author's reply

Merry bows deeply in return! Thanks, Shirebound.

Antane · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

That tells them off! :) They should be glad they just got away with his words instead of The Look also. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Heh! You have it there, Antane! Thanks for the giggle!

Celeritas · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

Oho! Good thing Frodo has relations looking out for him!

Author's reply

Oh, I agree, Celeritas. Thanks!

6336 · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

Just how the Sackville-Bagginses could live with them selves I just do not know! More please, Lynda

Author's reply

Ah, but thankfully Lobelia isn't replicated all over the Shire! One of her was ENOUGH! And she did repent at the end, for which we can be grateful. Love to you!

Dreamflower · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

*Grrrr...* Ooh, Lobelia! I know that JRRT gave her a chance at redemption at the end of her life, which was I am sure of great benefit to her. But for all the people she had hurt throughout her life, I think it was too little, too late. But I'm glad that Frodo and Esme were together when they heard that. Both of them know the truth.

Author's reply

Oh, yes--trust Lobelia Sackville-Baggins to be hateful! Esme doesn't know for certain that Lobelia has her locket, but she'll find out one day! Now, to get this one sent to the lists! Thanks so much, Dreamflower!

Kitty · 29 March 2009 · Chapter 29: Presumed Guilty

Oh, that nasty piece of work! I'm absolutely sure Lobelia herself has stolen the locket! In fact, wasn't there in an earlier story something along that line, though I can't remember if it was Esmeralda or Eglantine? Anyway, to blame Frodo was absolutely mean and left me furious. Sadly I can't post my opinion of her here, SoA is a family friendly site, after all ;(

Author's reply

Yes, this was detailed in "Second Mum." Indeed, Lobelia was a real piece of work! And it made you that angry? Obviously I'm doing something right in my writing! Thanks so, Kitty!

grumpy · 28 March 2009 · Chapter 28: Spring of Memories

It is great that Aragorn gets to show Arwen arround, and that they are all alive so he can do so,

Author's reply

Oh, yes--that is one thing I'm certain even he must have wondered thirteen months earlier whether or not they would all survive! Thanks so, Grumpy! Always a joy to hear from you!

Antane · 28 March 2009 · Chapter 28: Spring of Memories

That's neat that a grove of athlelas would be there now. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I like to think that this site might have its share of blessing! Thank you so, Antane.

6336 · 28 March 2009 · Chapter 28: Spring of Memories

Ah, nothing like going back and reliving good memories! Keep them coming, Lynda

Author's reply

Oh, indeed, Lynda. Thanks so.
