Periantari · 7 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

aww what a sweet scene--i like that they liken Gandalf to him being their light.

Author's reply

Oh, thank you, Periantari! Yes, he was the one who lit the way for them originally.

Agape4Gondor · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

I love Sam's comment... bless him!

Author's reply

Oh, I'm so glad you do! Each responds in his own way, but Sam always tends to see more clearly than he perhaps gives himself credit for. Thanks so, Agape.

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

Elven music must have been particularly good at getting to the heart of the matter. Makes me wish I were there to hear it, even if the topic is so sad.

Author's reply

I, too, wish I could have been there to hear. Some of the greatest beauty is rooted in grief as well as delight. Thank you.

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Making Things Right

Glad to see your take on the "Ask her already, Sam!" issue. I never thought that Rosie was too pleased by him up and leaving without saying anything, and I imagine her family wouldn't be too happy either. But here Sam's already taken matters into his own hands. Good for him!

Author's reply

Yes, Sam finally felt he had things sufficiently on the way back to normal to ask her at last, so saved himself from a thumping from his best friend. Heh! Her family must have wondered what was taking him so darned long!

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

Oh, dear, that Took is starting to peek out in him already! I'm assuming that that end quotation is from poor Bungo, isn't it? Fellow must have been at his wits' end when his son started taking after Mother...

Author's reply

Ah, yes, Bungo is speaking out there. And I love to think that at times as a child Bilbo did take after the Took side! Heh! Thanks for the feedback!

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 3: An Unexpected Gift

Aaaaah, Letters! Quite simply one of the most amazing books about Tolkien! This was a cute way of working your experience into your fan fiction.

Author's reply

Well, the suggestion was to think of something that pleased me first, and then work it into Middle Earth--so I did! Thanks.

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 2: From a Guardsman's Letter Home

Heh heh heh... Yes, this definitely goes on the list of "worst jobs ever." Though when watching RotK for the first time I decided that guarding those beacons in the middle of nowhere would be much, much worse!...

Author's reply

Both have to be tedious jobs. Although at least those who watch the beacons are able to get out and about! Heh!

Celeritas · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 1: Reasons During the Quest to be Grateful

Ah--never really did think of where Sam would have learned his fire-making skills, if he wasn't intended to have a job that would take him anywhere. This explanation makes sense.

Author's reply

I'm glad you find it makes sense. But he had to have learned somewhere how to make a fire.

Antane · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

I love Pippin's image! Very nice drabble here. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Yes, Pippin is very Tookish at the moment, his imagination kindled as it happens with his family from time to time.

Raksha The Demon · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

Worth major brownie points for the last line alone; but I loved the rest of the drabble for the glimpses of Belladona's character and little Bilbo's. Now you've got me wondering why as lively a person as Belladonna would marry so staid a soul as Bungo? Was he really that stodgy? Anyway, great drabble!

Raksha The Demon · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

A wonderful little piece, that not only captures the deep love that the four Hobbits had for Gandalf, but the differences in their own personalities, particularly the un-hobbity intellectual otherness of Frodo.

Author's reply

Oh, am so glad you find that, Raksha! Thank you!

Cairistiona · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

Another lovely drabble... music does indeed soothe the soul.

Author's reply

Indeed--it soothes and inspires. Thank you so, Cairistiona.

shirebound · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

It's lovely how the hobbits are interpreting and 'hearing' the music in their own way.

Author's reply

Yes, each in accordance to the personality he has. Thanks so, Shirebound.

Linda Hoyland · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 6: A Lament for Gandalf

Beautiful and moving

Author's reply

Thank you so, Linda!

Linda Hoyland · 6 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Making Things Right

And high time too that Sam marries his faithful Rose!

Author's reply

Oh, indeed, Linda! Thanks so!

Agape4Gondor · 5 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Making Things Right

Very nice indeed - brought a small blush to my cheeks at the thought of Sam 'speaking' with Rose........

Author's reply

It did? How flattering! Thanks, Agape.

Lindelea · 5 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Making Things Right

Seems as if Sam spoke just in time!

Author's reply

Apparently. I have a feeling that if he hadn't Tom would have considered pounding him a bit! Heh! Thanks.

Cairistiona · 5 March 2009 · Chapter 5: Making Things Right

Ah, so Tom's taking matters into his own hands with a procrastinating Sam... although apparently he didn't need to. Very sweet!

Author's reply

Well, just how long were they supposed to remain patient? Rosie was remarkably patient with Sam, I always felt.

Linda Hoyland · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

I'm glad Bilbo had a little of them all in him!Delightful.

Author's reply

Yes, if Frodo was the product of a complicated Hobbit pedigree, the same is true of his nominal uncle. Glad you enjoyed it, Linda.

Linda Hoyland · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 3: An Unexpected Gift

What a lovely idea to write a drabble about the delightful gift you received.

Author's reply

I am so glad you appreciate it. Thank you!

Linda Hoyland · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 2: From a Guardsman's Letter Home

I love this,it is just so true to life and I admit I've thought the same about the dead tree!

Author's reply

Yes, as standing around unable to do anything all day long can be dead boring! Heh! Thanks, Linda.

Linda Hoyland · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 1: Reasons During the Quest to be Grateful

How fortunate that Sam had learned from Bilbo,it would serve him well.

Author's reply

Oh, indeed yes, Linda. Thanks so!

Andrea · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

Except for her lamentable habit of singing comic songs in public LOL!!! I like Belladonna very much! Not only her son, but also her - well, I'm not as good as hobbits when it comes to describing relation grades, but I mean Frodo - tried this out, but only once, I believe ;-) And of course, spending time with Gerontius must have roused young Bilbo's Took side even more! Dragons and treasure, indeed :)

Author's reply

I, too, am finding I like the hints I get as to Belladonna's character. Yes, her great nephew did follow in her footsteps at least once that we know of, so we know he, too, had his Took side! And undoubtedly Gerontius did rouse the Took in young Bilbo, at least some. At least as a child Bilbo was preparing for his destiny. Heh!

inzilbeth · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

Ah, it's all the fault of that Tookish blood, that's for sure! Very well done.

Author's reply

Indeed yes. Thanks so, Inzilbeth!

Antane · 4 March 2009 · Chapter 4: I Want to Be Just Like ...

Cute! I think of the Hobbit where Gandalf is expecting a hobbit seeking adventure in Bilbo and finds that is not the case! But he has his adventure anyways and the rest is history... :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
