· Chapter 18: Waking on a Winter Morning
*lol* I see the other Hobbits have not forgotten how Frodo liked to welcome them with the first snow!
Author's reply
Yes--the second morning of the snow they're bound to get their own back, and aren't above enlisting Aragorn's aid! Heh!

· Chapter 17: Fighting Stereotypes
Ah, our dear Boromir still has a lot to learn about Hobbits! It's easy to underestimate them, isn't it?
Oh, foraging should be a speciality of the Hobbits, considering their appetite, or what does Boromir think where they get their food?
Good point - Frodo might not like to use his weapons, but he still hurt the troll, and his stubbornness and determination have to count for something. It's really amazing that he stood up to all of the Nine, and at a time when he was already feeling so bad!
Ha, Boromir was brought down by Frodo? That will give him something to think, no doubt! He should be glad he didn't get to feel the punch.
Author's reply
Yes, as written here he does have a good deal to learn, doesn't he? Now he begins to appreciate just how capable they are.
To appreciate these child-like creatures are not childish as well takes experience. They are eminently capable of taking care of themselves, and I strongly believe Bilbo would have seen Frodo and Sam well trained in scavenging, a skill they would have shared with others. And by this time Frodo has little personal innocence left, and will lose that, too, before all is said and done.
As for Frodo's ability to deliver a perfect punch--neither Aragorn nor Boromir knows of that skill as yet.
Thanks so, Kitty.

The title is very appropriate, you know *grin* Never say never, indeed!

· Chapter 15: The Question
No, you must NOT!
That can only be Saruman, I think. Gandalf might have the same power, but first, he was more sensible, and second, 'benighted land' sounds so much more like Saruman.
Author's reply
Yes, Saruman indeed. Gandalf has far less hubris than to believe that he has the personal power to outmatch Sauron by himself, and appreciates what he would become should he allow himself to become caught by the Ring. And that "benighted land" sounds as much like Saruman to me as it does to you! Heh!

· Chapter 8: What Might Have Been
Poor Sam, for having had to witness such a thing. Yes, that would be a hard question to answer.
Author's reply
Oh, indeed so. Hard to watch someone you love so taken by such a thing, and very hard to try to explain to your child.

· Chapter 9: Plans for Seduction
Oh my goodness, little wretch! Yes, there was no saving him, and no wonder...to steal from the thief and lie about it, then use the silly trinket to lure in...I really don't want to imagine too much of that. Pathetic!
Author's reply
Indeed, my Lady. Definitely the product of his parents' raising, and learned too many things better left unlearned at his mother's knee.
Yes, Lotho is very pathetic as I see him!
Thanks so.

· Chapter 10: What Was Found
*stunned*
Wow.
What else is there to say? So much power in such a very few words.
Author's reply
Thank you. When writing in drabbles it's necessary to be quite succinct, I find. Sometimes that strips things of sufficient detail as to leave them feeling unsatisfactory; sometimes it increases their power. I'm glad that in this case it was the latter. Again, thank you. But I suspect this is how Frodo felt after the quest.

· Chapter 11: Miscalculation
LOL! Trust them for something like that! Hilarious!
Author's reply
Oh, but this one was simply fun to write! Yes, trust the two younger Hobbits to think of such a thing, and probably having found some of the ingredients for Gandalf's fireworks to put in that pipe! Heh!

· Chapter 12: Preservation
Oh but now I want to know Freddy's answer! Never mind that I could guess at it...I want to read it! :P
Yes, returning home and finding even the peaceful, quiet Shire falling apart, Frodo's astounding efforts must have felt to him like a waste at first...it would have taken time for him to see it wasn't so.
Author's reply
Maybe I will do an expansion on this one some day--some I find already beg to be expanded upon. And you are right about Frodo's response to what he finds on his return, I think. Too right.

· Chapter 13: What He Cannot Say
Aw, poor Frodo...who can blame him, though? Goodbye is a terribly heavy word to say, and sounds so sad, even without that fear connected to it.
Author's reply
Indeed. It was interesting to explore Frodo's deepest fears and self-wrought superstitions.

· Chapter 14: The Promise for Next Year
Oo, I love the imagery, and it's pleasant to see Pal as a farmer, somehow, considering all the trouble he and Pippin had later.
Author's reply
Even as Thain he had to oversee the planting of the farmlands and fields associated with the Great Smials, so I think he'd never give over his appreciation of a good field beginning to spring! Thanks so very much!

It might have been the POV of Gandalf, were Gandalf that self-delusional; but in this case it's Saruman.

· Chapter 16: Never Say Never
Wow, true, and startlingly thought-provoking. It's so easy to say "I'll never!" right now...but the truth is one never knows, really.
Author's reply
Oh, yes, my Lady. It's a lesson I'm still having to learn from time to time, and I'm almost fifty-nine now!
Haha! Can we say Boromir should have sufficiently learned all his lessons by now? ;)
Author's reply
Oh, I DO suspect he has learned them now, whether he would or no! Heh!

LOL! Not fair, not fair! Poor Frodo wasn't even fully awake yet--talk about hitting a man (er Hobbit) when he's down!
Still priceless though...hehehehehe!

No, not particularly fair, but considering what he's done in the past I think he deserves it! Heh! So glad it gave you a laugh.

Ah! Good to see the hobbits enjoying themselves before they embark on the Quest.

Love that middle one! Frodo may have never fought in physical combat, but his battle was all the more fierce, even if it was 'invisible' to others. *hugs him* Like also the resourcefulness of the first and third at the end. Good things came in small packages! :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Yes, very resourceful, our Frodo! And as one who's but four foot eleven, I've always felt that sentiment was a good one! Heh!

oo i love all of them. I loved how you use the typical stereotypes of hobbits being weak and we see in several instances how Frodo and the other hobbits prove Boromir wrong in his initial perspective of them.
Very nice drabbles--very brilliant. :)
Author's reply
Am glad you agree! Somehow this one called for three drabbles instead of just one as each of Boromir's stereotypes was dealt with! Thanks so, Periantari!
