Ah, bless our beloved Frodo for his wisdom and mercy--and his delight in this book and its influence on his pleasure in his wife!

Nice to learn the continuing stories of those we've come to know here in this village, as our lads will not return here again.
Now, to follow Greenjade, Smeagol, and Radagast....
Author's reply
They left their mark on the village. Now it remains to be seen where else they will leave their mark.........

It's good the healing is continuing for both Smeagol and Greenjade. I'm sure Frodo will intervene if he can.

Perhaps the best thing she could have asked him, I think. Poor Greenjade--he will need a good deal of fortitude, I suspect.

Yes, he will! Perhaps thinking of his stepfather will help...and maybe he'll even be able to forge a bond with Smeagol now.....

I'm glad he carved the rose on the casket. And I can understand his confusion and questions.

Not a good thing to do at all. And there are more temptations ahead of him still. His redemption is clearly not going to happen overnight! Things are going to be a bit messy, I fear.....

I think he would go too, as I have written. There are indeed limits, but Frodo had already pushed himself far beyond what he thought those limits were in the first place, he would push himself again if need be. Greenjade has much to learn and his stepfather's example is certainly a good one.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I guess there's no way to know if he would go or not. He's a fictional character, after all.;) If he were to refuse, I doubt I could find it within me to blame him.
Once I read a book called The Things They Carried about american soldiers in Vietnam, and the narrator ponders why it was he went to Vietnam, instead of fleeing to Canada. He concludes that perhaps he was "afraid to be a coward," and therefore cannot really be considered a hero. It's what got me to mulling over the reasons people do the things we consider heroic. Are such deeds completely selfless? Or might there be more to it?

I don't believe she believed him--or at least not yet. And I'm sorry that he had to know such grief. Frodo has had a far more profound effect on him than he'd dreamed, I think, for him to be this honest and hurt that she was doing as she did for the reasons she's given. I'm so sorry for him!
Author's reply
Maybe she doesn't quite believe him...but I'll bet she will eventually. Yes, he has become completely human, yet his past seems to be catching up with him a bit. Well, I'm starting to be sorry for him too! I've already started on the next chapter after a serious bout with writer's block.....

But at the moment, I think the temptation will prove just a bit too strong for him....As to whether he will do the right thing, it remains to be seen! The Muse has been known to throw me a curve ball....:)

A sadness, but I suspect it is one of the good sadnesses, actually. Certainly he is growing. And to read Frodo's own words, know Frodo's own secret thoughts as he carried that blasted thing....
Good to see another chapter.
Author's reply
Yes, he is coming to know his stepfather, and wondering if he really wants to know certain things. A good sadness in a way, but certainly doesn't feel good to him in the moment. The things that make us strong rarely do, surely...

I love the comment about spoiling which is I would think the best part of being a grandparent - and dear me, Frodo that! :) I certainly love being an aunt. I love that letter and I love that Sam read it and passed it onto Frodo and that Smeagol wrote it. I hope little by little he gains some peace and contentment.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Oh yes...how many grandparents have I heard say that the best part of being a grandparent is being able to spoil their grandkids and then send them home to their parents? Quite a few of them! LOL And yes, being an aunt (and great-aunt) is just about the next best thing.....
I think the road will get a bit rough for Smeagol once this interlude is over...but I'm sure he can weather it and find some peace in the end. Thanks for commenting!

Interesting to see his curiosity and awareness being stretched.

Yes, he's told of being on land many times before. And at least he is seeking the right sort of knowledge now...and not the kind that was "to make him as a god"...but rather the sort that will make him a man.

Oh naughty bunny! =;3 *petpetpetpet* Yes.....we're reasonably certain Frodo will most likely hear that letter...and perhaps see it for himself someday....privileged as he is with occasional visions of Sam's doings courtesy of the Glass, and the way he just *knows* whenever there's a new addition to Sam's family....

Frodo DOES bring out the best in others, doesn't he? Oh, this is wonderful, that Smeagol wishes to tender his apologies while Greenjade finds himself wishing the good will of others for what he does, not merely what he is! Yes, they learn!
Author's reply
And I dare say Frodo will receive word of Smeagol's change of heart sooner or later...and as for Greenjade's mother....hmmm! And Greenjade is figuring out the reason now why the powers did not see fit to plunk him right down in the middle of Mordor from the get-go. He needed some training first! Of course!

Yes, it does appear living as mortals is indeed growing somewhat difficult for them. That wasn't the nicest trick to pull on the girl, but she DOES deserve it. As for the pantomime--it appears that Greenjade has some growing to do to fully appreciate it. Poor Pierrot!
Author's reply
Yes, difficult indeed...and that's just the beginning, and yes, Floria definitely had it coming. Hopefully she'll mend her ways, but that might be just a bit too optimistic. Actually I dare say Greenjade understood the pantomime all too well, and that "Pierrot" may well be the lucky one after all, at least in comparison to himself. Well, what with Smeagol getting himself into an accident, looks like they'll be spending a little more time in the village than they had planned on....hmmmmmm......

This is definitely a folksong appropriate for Radagast the Brown if any is! Love how Greenjade is beginning to change whether he would or no! He's not certain what to think of all this, is he? And he's almost accepting that the apparently Dunedain mercenary deserves Nell.
I find myself wondering about the relationship between Radagast and Nell, myself. Wonder if his farmer's wife was from this area?
In places your writing is so very lyrical!

Very appropriate indeed;) (although I had to leave out a couple of verses that rang a trifle anachronistic and not too p.c.) Greenjade is making quite a bit of progress considering he's only been human for less than two days! Ok, maybe not wholly believable, but with a story you've got to suspend disbelief at times whether you like it or not. I think he has just given birth to a conscience, however, and has a suspicion that acquiring a human soul is not going to be all fun and games and hearts and flowers. And he already knows he is not worthy of Nell and may never be--how's he going to explain his past to her, after all??
I find myself wondering about the relationship between Radagast and Nell, myself. Wonder if his farmer's wife was from this area?
Could be, could be....maybe Nell is his great-great-granddaughter? He may never know.....but there has to be *some* reason why he sees fit to visit this particular village once more;)
