Larner · 10 December 2011 · Chapter 40: A Chance Meeting on a Lonely Road

Aha! What a wonderful display for these poor men. May they indeed find purpose again with the aid of the Rangers. No wonder Gandalf allowed them to set off the fireworks, as it brought in the end their salvation! How Bilbo would have loved then to see the dragon firework, which was to be perfected for his own 111th birthday!

Author's reply

I had fun with this story because it was much different from what I usually write and it was fun to see Gandalf and his fireworks and giving the reader a glimpse of Third Age history that we rarely see in fanfiction. I'm glad you enjoyed this, Larner. Thanks for commenting.

Larner · 10 December 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

It sounds as if were a truly stunning experience for Legolas. And if it makes it easier to stay true to his love for his mortal friends, then it was truly worth all of the effort put into the crafting of the harps and the time spen within the Hallow.

Author's reply

I'm sure that the experience helped him tremendously to stay true to his love for his mortal friends and his promise to remain until after Aragorn died, Larner, and the people of Middle-earth were made richer for it for now the first wind harps had been created and I'm sure they became very popular among the Elves and mortals. *grin* Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Larner · 10 December 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

Now, this ambassador certainly does sound as if he put on quite the show! But Aragorn would definitely stand out in any crowd should he so choose, no matter what he wore!

Author's reply

I totally agree with you about Aragorn, Larner. He would definitely stand out in any crowd whatever he was wearing. He doesn't have to be a gaudy peacock for others to notice him. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 4 December 2011 · Chapter 40: A Chance Meeting on a Lonely Road

Atya, This story gave me some shivers! But I liked it all the same, although I do feel very sorry for the hobbits! The bandits used up their fireworks! I hope the bandits can be reformed and taught a better trade than thieving. I hope you'll expand on what happens when the Rangers catch up with the bandits, Atto! I'm curious. Tye-melin! Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. I'm glad you liked this. I'm sure Gandalf had plenty more fireworks for the Hobbits. The ones in his cart were bait, after all. *grin* I don't know if I'll expand on this tale or not. I think we know what will happen to them and that they will fare well under the Rangers' guidance. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 4 December 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

Atto, Glorfi took such good care of Legolas here...you know, I think he should save those wind harps for Arwen! She'll need them to comfort her. *hugs Arwen* But anyway, I thought this was lovely. I can always use more Glorfindel, and Legolas of course!! Tye-melin, Kaylee P.S. Where can I get one?

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Glorfi is good at taking care of people. *grin* And I have no idea where you can get one. I'd love one myself. You'll have to go online to see who makes and sells them. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Tye-melin.

obsidianj · 2 December 2011 · Chapter 40: A Chance Meeting on a Lonely Road

LOL! These "bandits" took on more than they could swallow. But Gandalf baited them nicely. Telling people who are intent of robbing you not to do something is a sure thing to get them to do just that.

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. Well, reverse psychology works on just about anyone, children and adults alike, and Gandalf is nothing if not a master of human (and elven) psychology after all these milennia of dealing with them. *grin* Glad you enjoyed this tale. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's very much appreciated.

Fantasia · 2 December 2011 · Chapter 40: A Chance Meeting on a Lonely Road

Bittersweet, but beautiful, very in tune with the Season. I know for sure that second opportunities were not easy in the old days. Hopefully, it was better in Middle Earth. Thank you Fiondil, it is always a pleasure to read your stories.

Author's reply

Hi. Fantasia. I'm glad you enjoyed this little tale. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

6336 · 2 December 2011 · Chapter 40: A Chance Meeting on a Lonely Road

Well I hope the Old Took was not too disapointed at not getting his fireworks for Midsummer, I am sure Gandalf was able to come up with an alternative. Desperation will drive you to do something you would not normally do, at least Rolf was not a murderer, but he was a thief and for that he should be punished, let's hope he does not mind a little hard labor. The prospect of a new begining when he has served his time is heartening. I am glad you posted this today I was going into withdrawal not having a new chapter from you, all I have to look forward to is a new day on the Advent Calendar! Huggs, Lynda (Who is off to check it out!)

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. I'm sure Gandalf had some more hidden away. The fireworks in the cart were obviously bait. And I'm sure Rolf and his men will welcome the chance to start new lives. Sorry for the withdrawal symptoms. I know others are suffering them as well. I'm suffering from a reverse form of withdrawal: remembering that I DON'T have to post on Mondays and Fridays anymore. LOL! Anyway, I'm glad you liked the story. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

6336 · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

Thought this was yours when I read it on the Teitho website. I very much enjoyed it, Glorfindel nearly always has the right answer! Helping Legolas in this way will enable him to withstand the pain of waiting for his Fellowship Brothers to pass. I don't think we will ever learn the depth of Glorfindel's powers, his own and the ones the Mair and Valar have taught him. I like him both ways you have written him, an Elf Lord in all his majesty and a Re-Born just learning his way again, they are both powerfull charecters. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. I'm glad you enjoyed this. And I'm sure you're right that we will never fully grasp the depth of power Glorfindel has. I doubt even his fellow Elves in ME could, either. And I'm glad you like him from both ends of the spectrum. He is fun to write no matter what. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

eliza · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

Spirit Harps, you wrote about spirit harps!! *** claps hands merrily*** I had heard of them, thanks in part to my Native American heritage. lol. my grandmother would thank you profusely since she had tried to beat some stories into a little girls head who was more interested in Barbie dolls. Anyhoo. Lovely story (as usual). I enjoyed Aragorns little tantrum as if he can't stand to be left out of an adventure....whats that saying "boys do not grow wiser, only taller". lol. Not sure how I feel about Glorifindel reminding Legolas of the dangers of loving mortals, sort of unintentionally rubbing salt in an open wound though I know he would never intentionally hurt anyone. Thanks for taking care of legolas though... E

Author's reply

Hi Eliza. So I made your day, did I? Or perhaps your Grandmother's day? *grin* Glorfindel, of course, is speaking from long experience. He doesn't actually tell Legolas not to have mortal friends but simply points out the dangers of an Elf having one. And I was very happy to take care of Legolas. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate very much.

Laikwalâssê · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

what can I say apart from fantastic? Trust our Glorfindel to help our `youngling`. What a wonderful gift for Legolas. I had never imagined that anything could counter the sea-longing. In the movies I found it also odd to guard a tree but no longer after reading your sentence: "He hid a smile at the absurdity of Mortals feeling a need to guard a tree, but his amusement fled at the thought of two Trees that should have been guarded and were not." How true. I love this story so much and for me it´s first place. Thank you Lai. P.S. I could need such a wind harp for myself right now.....

Author's reply

Hi Lai. It is indeed a wonderful gift, one that only Glorfindel could give. And guarding a tree may seem ridiculous at first glance but when life of the kingdom is bound up in said tree, people are going to make sure nothing happens to it. I'm glad you enjoyed this tale, Lai. Thanks for reading and reviewing and letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

Fantasia · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

Beautiful, just beautiful. How wise our Glorfindel is after so many years. I'm sure they won't recognize him in Valinor. I wonder how surprised they will be with him after his return. I'm sure that his experiences in ME gave him a different knowledge that cannot be achieved in Valinor.

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. Yes, our Glorfindel has gained much wisdom over the millennia. I'm sure many in Aman would be shocked and surprised to see it. LOL! Glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for letting me know. It's much appreciated.

Rhyselle · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

What a precious gift Glorfindel gave to Legolas! Oh, Fiondil, this was just astoundingly beautiful. As I move through the discords of my day, I'll keep this in mind, and seek for the Music within my own heart to find comfort. I think the only unanswered question is now: What is Glorfindel going to do with the wind harps? :) Thank you, and Well Done!

Author's reply

Hi Rhyselle. Perhaps Glorfindel gifted them to Aragorn and gave him the instructions for building them so other could enjoy them and I'm sure Legolas took at least one of them with him to his own lands. I am glad that you enjoyed this tale. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

shirebound · 10 November 2011 · Chapter 39: Soul Song

That's a very beautiful, and powerful story. I'd love to come across one of those harps myself.

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound. I appreciate you letting me know how much you enjoyed this. You can hear what Aeolian harps sound like by going to YouTube. There are several selections, all of them quite interesting and hauntingly beautiful in sound.

Tari · 9 November 2011 · Chapter 37: The Cost of Friendship

I knew from the beginning this was about Beleg, who is one of my favorite elves. Well done!

Author's reply

Hi Tari. Some people guessed right off and others didn't. Beleg is one of my favorite Elves, too. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

harrowcat · 20 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

I have always thought the black and silver to be quietly elegant. I liked this colourful description. It reminded me of the team entrace scene in 'HP and the goblet of fire'. I always enjoy your vivid descriptions of clothing.

Author's reply

I remember that scene, Harrowcat. It was indeed very colorful, but I agree with you that black and silver is quietly elegant, which is probably why Elendil chose that particular color scheme. I'm glad you enjoy my vivid descriptions of clothing (not everyone does). Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

eliza · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

Oh Fiondil, I think this is the very best chapter so far. The last line express it all, no matter what happens or what situation you find yourself in, a best friend can always make you feel like you can do any thing. thats got to be better than all the gemstones and pure black chargers in middle earth. Well done Mellon, this is going to be my favorite

Author's reply

Hi eliza. Thank you so much for your lovely review. I totally agree with you that all the gemstones in the world don't add up to the honest love of a friend and Aragorn realizes this with Legolas' words of affirmation. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how much you enjoyed this story. Thanks again.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

Atto, Well, this is a colorful story! I loved all the descriptions. The Khandians were a surprise, lol! And I think Legolas is absolutely right (about everything!) Poor Aragorn! But I hope the meeting went well, after that, um, very odd opening! Perhaps your Muse would like us to know how it went? =) Tye-melin! Kaylee

Author's reply

Hey Kaylee. I'm sure the meeting went well. And I'm glad you think Legolas was right about everything. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Tye-melin.

Fantasia · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

It is a very nice story. I remember when I was a child and read the Arabian nights stories (In my country it was named The One thousand and one nights). You always imagine those beautiful dresses, all colorful and silky, all the jewels and gold. Just beautiful. Well, I think that your ambassador overdo a little bit. In my home country, in the tropic, we tend to dress very colorful, a lot of flower prints in the fabrics, and bright, bright colors and we a lot of jewels. When I came to USA, it took me a while to dress down my colors, I couldn't understand why wearing black and grey in winter time, when in my mind, it was needed a lot of color to bright the days. That was in Ohio. Now I lived in Southern California and I'm getting back to the colors again. I thought that was a geographical thing. But then, I have a friend that lives in Sweden, and they dress with a lot of color in winter. So, maybe is cultural. Don't know. Anyway, sorry for all the nonsense comments, it just came to my mind. As usual, I love the way that you write the friendship between Aragorn and Legolas. Thank you

Author's reply

Hi Fantasia. I suppose it might be a cultural thing. Last winter, which was particularly brutal here in the Northeast, I found myself very depressed and I realized that part of it was because all my clothes were drab colors, dark blues, grays and blacks. I went out and found brighter colored shirts - yellow and green, etc - and immediately felt better when I wore them. Anyway, I remember reading the Arabian Nights (or The One Thousand and One Nights as it was also called here) when I was a kid. I loved them and all the color descriptions. I will admit I had those stories and the musical Kismet in mind when I wrote the descriptions of the Khandians. Tanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

This is delightful. I wish an artist would capture this as well with ink as you have with words. Thank you.

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed this UTfrog. I wish an artist would capture this as well. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Estelcontar · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

That was a most delightful witty gap filler, which I very much enjoyed reading. It really lightened my day. It would have gotten one of my votes for Teitho this time. Unfortunately, I was a total nitwit and missed the deadline this time.

Author's reply

Hi Estelcontar. I'm glad you enjoyed this and tat it lightened your day. I've missed a couple of deadlines myself, so don't feel too bad. Perhaps next time. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it.

6336 · 19 October 2011 · Chapter 38: An Ostentation of Colors

Well that was colourfull, if not to say gaudy! I think Aragorn is more interested in the man in the clothes than the clothes on the man. Bright clothing and ostentious trapping could hide a shrewd negotiator! Hope this makes sense, Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Makes perfect sense, Lynda. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

panzer71 · 14 October 2011 · Chapter 16: A Mystery at Long Lake

Your one of the better storytellers writing Tolkien fanfic. Over the past several months I must have read a couple hundred submissions by various authors and your entries do stand out, thank you. This was short but engaging and I can't help but wonder if The Elf Lords were thinking of Winglot(spelling)? I wonder how the mayors wife reacted when none other than Thranduil and Cirdan arrived as house guests for the night? Must have been funny. Thanks again for sharing your imagining in a free forum, Sincerely,Lou.

Author's reply

Hello Lou. Thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how much you enjoy my stories. You may be correct about the Elf lords thinking of Vingilot. Certainly Círdan might have been, having been there when Eãrendil built his ship.

Ellynn · 7 October 2011 · Chapter 37: The Cost of Friendship

Such a touching, poignant, sad, beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.

Author's reply

You're welcome, Ellynn, and thank you for reading and letting me know what you thought of this. I appreciate it very much.

Larner · 6 October 2011 · Chapter 37: The Cost of Friendship

And surely this is as much the fault of Morgoth as any other ill, that Beleg died at the hands of Turin. Well done!

Author's reply

Absolutely, Larner, and thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to read and reivew.
