Independence1776 · 13 September 2009 · Chapter 6: At The End Of All Things (Rainbow)

I'm sorry for not reviewing sooner-- I'm in the middle of moving and my Internet time is severely limited. Stunning drabbles. I love the rainbow in this one: a sign of promise.

Larner · 3 September 2009 · Chapter 7: The Wood Of Green Leaves (Green)

Beautiful, and so proper to this warrior king!

Larner · 3 September 2009 · Chapter 6: At The End Of All Things (Rainbow)

Oh, so perfect!

Larner · 3 September 2009 · Chapter 5: Banners Before The Gate (Violet)

The day's tragedies leave the field the color of mourning in the end.

ellie · 3 September 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

These are all haunting and beautifully done.

Larner · 28 August 2009 · Chapter 4: A Wind From The South (Blue)

I have always loved the thought of that first patch of blue as the winds begin to tear away the murk!

Independence1776 · 27 August 2009 · Chapter 4: A Wind From The South (Blue)

Ooh. Wonderful hint of what's to come with the arrival of the ships!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 27 August 2009 · Chapter 4: A Wind From The South (Blue)

These drabbles are lovely Jay! A Wind From The South is probably my favorite so far but that's just because I love blue, I think. *grin* Although you are using the name for the Indigo story for it in the summary! I loved the image of the blue sky patch...so pretty Kaylee

Author's reply

Thank you for catching that error - I've fixed it now! I'm glad you like the drabbles - and at least this one is more hopeful than some!

Ainariel · 25 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Dawnless Day (Indigo)

Wow...Love this whole series, but this is my fave so far. Very powerful!

Author's reply

Thank you - but Tolkien created the scene. I just wrote about it!

Larner · 25 August 2009 · Chapter 3: The Dawnless Day (Indigo)

This image is fantastic, Jay. It says so very much!

Author's reply

Thank you. It was such a powerful image to work with!

Baggins Babe · 20 August 2009 · Chapter 2: Beacons (Orange)

I have often wondered about those poor guards, waiting on lonely mountain tops. I loved this - it was written with such beautiful economy and the repetition at the beginning and end show that this guard is one link in that vital chain. Perfect!

Author's reply

I think the beacon guards must have lived very lonely lives. Thank you for mentioning the repetition - it was very deliberate, and seems to have worked!

Larner · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 2: Beacons (Orange)

I love the further images of flowers and petals within this one, Jay. Beautiful!

Author's reply

I was hoping to continue the floral image throughout the series, but it didn't work out. I'm glad you liked this, though!

Cairistiona · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 2: Beacons (Orange)

Yes! Someone has finally written a piece about those lonely men on the mountaintops between Rohan and Gondor. I've often thought about writing something about the vigil they keep and how it must have felt when at long last the time finally came to light the beacon. Shaking hands indeed! Well done.

Author's reply

I've sometimes wondered about the beacon guards - was it an honoured position, handed down from father to son, or was it a punishment duty and a chance of redemption? It must have been strange and terrifying when the time came to act.

Cairistiona · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

I love how with such a small drabble, you've still managed to paint a very immense cavern. Elladan looking at the distant torches really brings that point home. Also loved that he was more concerned with the smoke from his own torch than with the Dead following. Few would be so calm.

Author's reply

The cavern and the passages must have been vast - but in the darkness it would be impossible to see that. The torches were a way of showing that distance. I don't know about calm - Elladan just didn't like the smoke in his eyes!

Independence1776 · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 2: Beacons (Orange)

Love the repetition at the beginning and the end-- it shows quite well this man is just a link in the chain. But at the same time, he's vital. Loved it.

Author's reply

Thanks - yes, the repetition was important to show the chain of beacons continuing. To be a beacon guard must have been a dull, lonely job - all that waiting!

Lindelea · 17 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

Ooo, very evocative. I can clearly see the scene as you've set it.

Author's reply

Thank you - what a dark, eerie journey that was!

Vilwarin · 16 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

*shivers* you do a great job setting the scene.

Author's reply

Thank you - but it was such an eerie place, I didn't need to do much.

Independence1776 · 15 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

You do a good job of showing the details of walking the Paths of the Dead: the gloom, the composition of the stone, and the light that will bring hope.

Larner · 15 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

Excellent response to the prompt, and one I find myself responding to!

ellie · 15 August 2009 · Chapter 1: Torchlight (Yellow)

Very creepy, and nice use of flames and yellow. Not good reading for late at night. Too eerie!

Elena Tiriel · 14 August 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

Very beautiful, Jay! The imagery is vivid and stunning in its emotional impact. Well done! - Barbara

Independence1776 · 13 August 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

Stunning imagery. It somewhat reminds me of "In Flanders Fields." Wonderful drabble! ~ Indy

Author's reply

Yes, the poppies in Flanders were very much in my mind as I wrote this - hence the title!

Larner · 13 August 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

You know--great minds think alike! I had just started writing a story in which I was headed to much the same imagery, although it will be far longer than a drabble when I get it done! Heh!

Author's reply

Oh, I shall look forward to reading that! I always like to see how different writers produce totally different tales from a similar prompt.

Mum's the Word · 13 August 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

Devastatingly beautiful. Thank you, Jay.

Author's reply

Thank you!

Vilwarin · 13 August 2009 · Chapter 8: On Pelennor Fields The Poppies Blow (Red)

Ah, that gives a really nice image and also is a fitting allegory. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Vilwarin.

Author's reply

I've seen several pictures of the poppies in Flanders, so this scene was easy to write - I could see it so clearly! Thanks for reviewing.
