That would be a hard thing to accept, now he's just begun to respect the man and his competency! But Thorongil has his reasons, as WE know....

Author's reply

Yes, one is itching for him to tell Imrahil - but we know they end up friends. LBJ

A wonderfully suspenseful chapter! Can't wait to find out who Oriel is!

Author's reply

Glad is was. Oriel - well, I will keep you guessing what happens to her. LBJ

Great chapter! I'm really enjoying this story and I can't wait for the next chapter. I really like the way you write both Imrahil and Aragorn. :)

Author's reply

Thanks - glad they come over well. LBJ

Please, don't leave us hanging here anymore! It's been almost 2 weeks since this cliffhanger. :(

Author's reply

Sorry, not been too well. Update tomorrow. LBJ

utfrog · 9 February 2010 · Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Great story, but what an awful cliff-hanger ending. Hope the next chapter is ready for a quick posting!

Author's reply

Sorry about that - but you won't be kept in suspense for long. LBJ

Radbooks · 3 February 2010 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

I'm really enjoying this story!!

Author's reply

Great! That's what I like to hear.LBJ

Larner · 2 February 2010 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

I see how the boys are proving helpful--and adding complications as well. Now--to get in and then out again!

Author's reply

Yes, without any more complications! LBJ

whitewave · 2 February 2010 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

I like Jibran very much--such a smart and spunky little boy. Will he play a part in future chapters as well?

Author's reply

He is certainly around for a bit longer.LBJ

daw the minstrel · 2 February 2010 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

I really like the way the boys' rescue leads to solving one problem (how to signal the ships) and complicates the plot later with the addition of the rescue plans. That connection of events is very nicely done.

Author's reply

Thanks. Its true that one event can have a marked effect upon another. LBJ

utfrog · 2 February 2010 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Hooray for a rescue mission. No wonder Captain Thorongil and his men were such heroes.

Author's reply

Yes, it's quite fun playing with this as we don't know exactly what went on.LBJ

How quickly pity and mercy are rewarded! Imrahil will not kill a boy; he will not be as evil as his enemies - this when he still thought the boy might be one of those enemies. Instead, Jibran proves the key to sucess. As time runs short, he wouldn't have been able to take the fortifications. Gandalf said it once about Gollum - the pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many. It's equally applicable here.

Author's reply

That's a good correlation, and Imrahil's mercy has other implications yet. LBJ

Larner · 30 January 2010 · Chapter 4: Chapter 4

A nice, fairly neat win here! And I'm glad they're taking the boys. What a life to live! Wonderful victory--now to the next stage!

Author's reply

Hi Larner, A few more wins needed yet. And more for the boys to do. Thanks for taking the time to review.LBJ

Larner · 30 January 2010 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Wisdom indeed he shows, and a keen appreciation for the newly met captain as well as the locals. Now--to get in there and subdue the place in a hurry!

Author's reply

That captain has a knack of inspiring appreciation, as we well know. LBJ

Larner · 30 January 2010 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Finally--some time to read and comment! A wonderful first meeting, and love the thought here, too, that Thorongil might just prove a half-brother to Denethor--yes, an excellent reason for Denethor to distrust the man! Love the descriptions given, and the plan is wonderful! Now, to execute it!

Author's reply

I thought that a believable scenario, glad you did. LBJ

galimeril · 26 January 2010 · Chapter 4: Chapter 4

A nice addition, I like the idea of the boy, I'm glad Imrahil is getting him and the others out, no one should be forced to live like that. May the stars shine upon you and your muse never desert!

Author's reply

Jibran came from nowhere, but makes sure he cannot be ignored! The Muse disappears for a while sometimes but luckily the next few chapters are written.LBJ

You capture the brutality of warfare well. Imrahil's men kill when they have to too, but their prince, at least, draws the line at harming children. Go, Imrahil!

Author's reply

Well, my Imrahil has to be honourable. And his compassion will be put to the test.LBJ

galimeril · 21 January 2010 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

*gasp* evil cliffie! *shakes finger* you naughty authoress you! Can't wait for more, as always! ;D

Author's reply

It certainly was - but they got out of it. LBJ

Radbooks · 20 January 2010 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Nasty cliffhanger - in more ways than one! :) I'm glad Imrahil and Thorongil were able to talk out their differences. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's reply

LoL. I never thought of it as a real 'cliffhanger' until a couple of people mentioned it.LBJ

Stefania · 19 January 2010 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Hi LBJ - I like how you've left us with a true cliff hanger--Imrahil and his cohorts practically hanging off a cliff. You move the story along well with physical challenges for Imrahil and his men and engaging descriptions of ship board life. The character moments between Imrahil and Thorongil were well drawn, though I wonder if Imrahil is 100 percent on Thorongil's side as of yet? I'm sure we'll find out soon. - Steff

Author's reply

Thanks. We have to leave room for a little doubt. Imrahil will need to be convinced. LBJ

daw the minstrel · 19 January 2010 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

I really like the detailed sense you give of understanding sailing and tactics, not to mention the relationship of men fighting along side one another.

Author's reply

I do know a lot about sailing - but not much about tactics, so I am glad it sounded OK. I can only say it's an enjoyable challenge to write, LBJ

galimeril · 14 January 2010 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

awesome scene! can't wait for more!

Author's reply

Glad you like. Thanks a lot for reviewing. LBJ

whitewave · 13 January 2010 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I like reading about a younger Imrahil here and especially enjoy his easy rapport with Thorongil and with a younger Sergion. I'm looking forward to more action in the next chapter.

Author's reply

The action starts in the next chapter and continues for a few more - so I hope you enjoy, Thanks for taking the time to review. LBJ

Stefania · 12 January 2010 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Lady Bluejay, I am rubbing my hands together with glee after reading the first chapter of your story. A pre-Ring War story starring Imrahil in his youth, Aragorn, Denethor--the mind boggles. These are some of my favorite Tolkien characters, and you've gotten them off to an excellent start. I'm eager to read your next chapter. BTW, you use the term "sell-sword." The author George R.R. Martin uses that term in his series "A Song of Ice and Fire." Have you ever read "A Game of Thrones" and the other books in that series? If so, did you know that HBO/BBC are creating a miniseries based on those books, starring Sean Bean and Jennifer Ehle? I'm so excited. And I am quite excited about your new story.

Author's reply

Hi Stefania. I do hope you enjoy the rest of the story - thanks a lot for reviewing. I don't know the books at all, but have now looked them up. Will order the first one to read and see how I get on. Anything with Sean Bean in is usually good - so I shall look forward to that. LBJ

daw the minstrel · 12 January 2010 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I like the spirit Imrahil shows here, and the self-awareness. And he's shrewd, which is good. It can be difficult to write two strong characters in the same story without shorting one of them, but this is nicely done.

Author's reply

Thanks - there will be more about Imrahil but I hope I have done justice to Thorongil as well. I always write my grown up Imrhails much the same - enigmatic and strong, so I had to reflect that for his youth. LBJ

Larner · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

I'm looking forward to following this one, LBJ. A young man having to follow a mercenary doesn't sound comfortable--but I suspect Captain Thorongil will surprise him!

Author's reply

Well, I have always had this feeling that they must have met before - because Imrahil - Gondor's highest vassal - accepted Aragorn's claim as king so quickly. There just had to be a story in it. Thanks for reviewing.LBJ
