Another wonderful chapter. I am excited to see what happens. I had a feeling that swimming in cold, dark pools would be involved in their escape. Loverly! Lily

Hey, just wanted to say I enjoy your story (have been following since fanfic.net and have never submitted a review before). But I was wondering when/if Aragorn was gonna get some attention. He is my favorite and like you drama and angst are what makes it interesting. Great writing and I look forward to reading more.

ok. haven't reviewed b4, but am doing so now. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR KNOWING BASIC GRAMMAR!! I'm shocked by how many people haven't heard of the comma, and it's correct use in direct address as well as when closing a statement and continuing the sentence. next - love the plot - a+ for originality, but a b- for lag time. I admire your thoroughness, your representation of charachters (true to cannon! yay!) and your description, but your cliffhangers leave me clawing my hair and screaming, "Will something just HAPPEN already?!?!" So, a common complaint, i know. several things confuse me in this chapter. OK, glad that charachters are working out problems, but - Aragorn and Arwen are having sex in a cave while Legolas has a broken back (that's gonna heal, right? *nervous, pleading glance* i mean, come on - *hopeful smile* yes, I am a Leggy fan *blushes*) Kattica is practically in labor, Faramir is heavily bleeding and his Romany companion is practically gushing arterially (all while being nearly lost in the woods during a storm) and Gimli . . . let me just say, I think you're setting up for MAJOR angst. normally, hey, I'm all for it *grins sheepishly* but in the last few weeks I have come to see that there can be such a thing as too much angst. I mean, who doesn't write angst? (It's so depressing at times that it's actually funny, in a twisted, melancholy and yet hysterical sort of way . . . *giggles*) By the way, major PING pts for good use of comedy - simply the idea of Legolas drunk and hungover was enough to have me screeching/laughing with hysterical imaginings in my computer chair (also drawing the attention of a family which is seriously beginning to believe that i am horribly disturbed . .. oh well!) in an attempt to keep you from starving of "review deprivation", I hope this will inspire you to finish the story, quickly, with quality, and within 5 chapters? (ok, ok, so I can't have my cake and eat it too, but where's the harm in trying? *impish grin* Oh, and of the 3 abovementioned requirements, all give way in the face of quality. but that doesn't stop me from wishing for it to be over, for stuff to HAPPEN!, as i devoured all 40 chapters, (including the laudable and, yes, very sneaky website switch) within the past 7 hrs or so) well, that's all from this quarter, and may the muses smile on you! ciao lembas7

You're right! This site is great...thanks for the link. Wonderful chapter, as always. Mm, just out of curiosity, how many more chapters are there to go? Just wondering. Poor Legolas. Is this paralysis going to be permanent? Depends if your story is AU, I guess. Anyways, update soon! (or else...)

fliewatuet · 16 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

See, I follow wherever you go! Though I must admit that you played a mean trick on your readers at ff.net. But I like it here, so thanks for the hint. But now for the story: The previous chapter was for sure one of the darkest and scariest of the entire story. The image of the injured Gordash being attacked by his own dogs was ... tough. I only hope that he and Faramir will reach some amount of safety soon. As for this chapter: Legolas' awakening, his stray thoughts, the way the events from his surroundings became intermingled with the images his subconscious created was stunning. And it seems as if Bäla has returned! I only hope that Bregus will use her newly discovered powers to heal Legolas. As for Arwen and Aragorn. I loved the atmosphere of the aftermath of their lovemaking you described. And poor Aragorn still struggles with his overprotectiveness. But, as Arwen rightly noticed, he is learning, though it is by no ways an easy experience for him to let her go. And now, at least Arwen has left that cave, but I fear that I am not too far off the mark to assume that he has followed her when she signalled that she needed more rope? I know, Aragorn is tough, but given the temperature of the water ... and, apparently, he has dragged Arwen back into the stream again ... Ahh, the suspense is killing me! If I promise to work on my story, will you promise to update soon (*biiig puppy dog eyes*)? fliewatuet

Nilmandra · 16 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

I have decided that the only thing worse than for Legolas to be caught in a nightmare is to wake up and find Bregus nearby. He is totally helpless and in pain and the sea longing is assailing him, and the witch wants to use him for an evil purpose. Curtik seems that he must be the most evil of the bunch, but I am glad that Mattias seems to live still. Arwen and Aragorn are my favorites though. Filthy dirty people making love in a cave. I am still laughing at the idea of them making babies on this trip! It was good to see Arwen's strength - of body but of character as well. She comes across as very smart and brave. But of course, you couldn't let them just escape.......you had to throw them back into what seems to be mortal danger......you evil person *grin*

Elvenesse · 16 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Your little trick on fanfictiion worked, but was very evil! Writing it from Legoolas' POV was good, and you did it really well, as I knew what was going on and at the same time felt Legolas' confusion. Leaving Aragorn and Arwen in the water was not very nice, hopefully they'll get out soon and I'm waiting to see how you return all the characters unharmed.

WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!...*sniff, sniff*... ok, now after sniffling(after being deviously tricked into coming here)and being glued to my seat while making my way through this chapter, then reading a very long awaited response only to find out it didn't work?!?!?!? *breaks into torrential sobs again* *sniff*...i'm alright now...i think...ok, that never happened before, at least not that i've been told(no, i don't send email to myself...and even if i did, i'd get it back anyway so i wouldn't know if it bounced...*rambles on about nothing*)umm yeah, i think it's safe to say i'm not ok at the moment, but onward!!! could you try again, please!!!!! i know it's probably getting annoying by now(and i would know annoying considering the weird kid that wanders around my house calling me her "sister", i swear there's a conspiracy going on around here*looks around suspiciously*...she made me play cards with her a while ago interupting my so-called reviewing...)well, please try to send it again, PLEASE...!!!! well, now to your story!!!...this is getting long...ANIWHO!!! when i read the story on ff.net, i was soooo excited to finally see something from Legolas' POV. Then it stopped. argh...you are pure EVIL!!!!! so yes...you got me *sigh* The chapter was great!!...especially being able to read the rest of it *glares* I know it's been said a million zillion times now, but i can't help myself...POOR LEGOLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(times the exclamation marks by another million zillion)...finally waking up only to find his friends dissipate and find Bregus and Curtik instead!!! and just because it's written by the ever so EVIL Ithilien, he's racked by ginormous pain only to fall back into the sealonging...argh...*mutters something that sounds like "evil" under breath* Bregus finding out about the sealonging can't be good, can it?? *starts panicking* CAN IT?!?!?!? Loved the Aragorn needing to realize that Arwen has to go...I was getting so excited when she finally made it out(my thoughts at the moment were "GET OUT OF THE WATER!!!!!GET OUT!!!!!)seeing how evil you are...that wasn't it...you just ahve to pull her back into the cave...*sigh* Have i stressed how EVIL you are yet!?!?!?!?!? oh, before i forget, there was a typo in the Aragorn and Arwen part...unless "rjppled" is just a word i don't yet know of...just thought you might want to know...though you probably already do...-.-...(don't hurt me)*backs away from computer* Glad to know that the amulet isn't gone yet, will be looking forward to the chapter it should appear in(only two more chapters 'til that should happen, i'm not forgetting that)i'll be looking out for the halberd too, but for that, Gimli will hve to show up first...and of course, some Legolas action...well whatever his present condition will allow at least... well, as alwayz, can't wait 'til more updates!!!!...please try to send the pfd to me again...please!!!!this is getting long and that weird kid has showed up again, so bai!~ *~SuGaR~* p.s hope i didn't forget anything...hope the length of this will make up for the lack of reviews for you on this site, but i'm sure the numbers will go up well enough without my help...i kow i'm forgetting something..argh, well i'll come back when i remember, adding more reviews...hehe ^.^, well cya!!!~

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM IS WELCOME?! Why anyone would critisize a story like this is beyond me. I certainly won't. Keep going, and certainly keep up the good work!!! I'll sic my vicious plot bunnies on you if you don't update soon!!! :D :P

luinthien · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

another great chapter! I loved how you described Legolas overhearing the conversations of Bregus and Curtik. You really nailed that one on the head. you really captured the surreal atmosphere Legolas must be experiencing right now. I am also glad to see Arwen and Aragorn out of the cave! Now we will see Aragorn doing what he does best, kicking butt! Thanks also for recommending Hostage of Hate. I am in the middle of it right now and its awesome!! Can't wait for another chapter!!! Nightwing · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

I'm so happy to have Legolas' POV. I've been yearning for it, and I knew you'd make it incredible. The poor Elf (such a common phrase, but I think you should hold the patent. "Poor Elf" TM) moving from nightmarish impressions of his friends in emotional pain to a violent assault of sea-longing, mingled with concerns for his people as he continues to be awash in his own physical agony...finally emerging to full consciousness with the realization that he was still in the hands of the witch. You made the transition from one blurry scenario to the next beautifully. Was it difficult to write this part? Games and experiments? Arwen and Aragorn? Oh, and I thought I was going to get a little taste...things were heating up nicely, she did have to notice the light. Darn! But, escape is essential. Loved that little glimpse of Aragorn's terror when he realizes she must be the one to go, and great descriptions of her underwater fight. I knew that knot he tied would hold. Trying to keep her safe. Arrgghh! A fabulous cliffhanger again! Well, things are going to accelerate wildly from here on out. Must be about time for Gimli!

Tapetum lucidum · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Ok, you dragged me around the internet. If my connection wasn't slower than a hobbit leaving the dinner table I wouldn't mind. It was worth it. Now I am going to leave Daw's review here too just to confuse her. Poor Legolas was really confused. Your stream of consciouness/muddled thoughts had me confused at first. I was wondering if I had missed a chapter. Then I realized he was completely delerious. It is reasonable for him to attach his best friends the the voices he hears around him. Arguing connects the argumentative. Healing connected to the healer. Uh oh, now Bregus knows about the sea longing. I imagine she will use that against him. Aragorn and Arwen are getting a little frisky in the dark! After the scene when Legolas returns the Evenstar to Aragorn in TTT I can't blame her for not wanting to nibble his fingers. The contrast between the two in the movie was humerous. I really liked your reference here as well. A light at the end of the tunnel... At least they are finally getting out of the cave. I hope poor Arwen doesn't drown. I know Aragorn won't be far behind. Please stay in one place!

Lamiel · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Well, here I am, and this chapter is well worth it. Poor, poor Legolas. He finally struggles to consciousness, only to washed away again by the sea-longing. You know, for most people a broken back would be enough. But no, our Elf has to have that PLUS an agonizing mental torment/longing/relief. It's Tolkien's fault, really, for coming up with the whole sea longing bit. I'm thrilled to see Aragorn and Arwen working together--and that opening moment between them was wonderful. Real intimacy and respect and love the way the Master intended. And an honest acknowledgment of Aragorn's . . . less than Elvish hygiene. Hee hee. It isn't often that you can find that sort of physical intensity in a well written fic--and no slash, thank the Valar. Glad to hear you liked my ideas for "Release" too. I certainly had fun with it. There's a hidden part of me that longs to write a real trashy Elf-torment/passion fic, but I haven't the courage. Plus it would make my beta reader blush. Okay, I'm going to join up with this site. I probably won't post my fics here until they're finished, just to avoid multiple postings and polishings. After "Deep Places" is done I'll send it here and Henneth-Annun and any other good sites I can find that will accept it. Thanks for the recommendation, too--it's always a treat to find more good writers and non-Mary Sue stories.

I'm pleased that my original instinct about the water leading out in an underground tunnel wasn't completely off. Too bad A&A didn't discuss before hand a signal that she'd gotten free. The part with Legolas was fascinating. Very realistic, imo, the sort of strange dreams he would have. I'm so excited to have the privilege of reading another chapter of this fabulous story.

LOTRFath · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Aha. So at last Legolas is awake. Though I bet he wishes he were not. Poor elf. Why must we torment him so? What has he ever done to deserve such torture? Oh, I like it. lol I love how Arwen is stepping out on her own, though still under the protection ofAragorn. :-) Great chapter! Until next time (which will be soon right?:-) Namaarie! Faith

JastaElf · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Oh, I hope I'm the number One reviewer here... (evil grin) So, Evil Woman Writer of Doom, you think to tease us all over at the Evil Empire with your plots and plans? Hmmm?? Well-- Well, OK, it worked. :-) So here I am, and oh my GAWD what a fantastic chapter! I feel like I just got off the Apollo's Chariot ride at the amusement park... slow, tortuous climb upward, then a 800 foot precipitous drop into water... Argh!!! From poor Legolas's horrible torment, to Arwen and Aragorn snuggling scruffily in the underground, to the water and the almost free, then (of course because you are EVIL!) not exactly free.... This is just one of the best, tightest, most incredible stories I have ever read, and I get the feeling that in Valinor, Tolkien is wriggling in his slippers with delight as each chapter sees daylight. :-) Well done--OH, well DONE!!! And of course I want to see more, more, more.... :-) May your review count climb higher. Now go read all my stuff here and leave reviews for me, because I suffer from the same disease! (grin) Hugs, Jasta

daw the minstrel · 15 August 2003 · Chapter 39: Awakenings

Legolas is really in trouble! I liked seeing this from his point of view. The sea longing is an interesting concept. I haven't done the research on it, so I've never been sure if it's a physical illness or just unhappiness. This is a very gripping description of an attack. Wow. So near to escape and yet so far for Arwen and Aragorn.
