I am really enjoying Maidhien as a character, and especially her relationship to Thranduil's family. I do miss seeing Legolas and Thranduil interact, though. I hope more of that is coming up :)

One day, I will find time to add all the 'Interrupted Journeys' series to my favorites :) Until then, I'd just like to say that you're a great writer, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series too! Especially to find out who did mother Legolas' sweet little girl in the very first chapter of the series, and what happened to her... Somehow it's not looking to be Aewen, but you never know!
It's so different and very interesting to see Legolas as a teenager, almost of age, and being really mature, but at the same time relapsing into mindsets we can all relate to :) And your characterizations great, Legolas and Thranduil and everyone has a believable personality. Plus all the the little romances were so sweet, can't wait til Leggles ( xD how cute!) goes through romance like Thrandil and Lindomiel did, because I found it so real and just lovely :)

UH oh, the plot is thickening, and now we are left waiting! I do not like how this sounds and I do not like that Maidhien may seem to be getting in deep waters and being too confident of her own forces!
I think Thranduil is right that Aradunnon's children really "disappointed" their father in their way with the ladies, so it's somehow safe that he isn't around to encourage Legolas, LOL.
I missed Dolgailon here, but seeing how things are evolving, I fear there's some angst coming up for him...poor Tulus as well...
Thank you elliska, I really enjoyed having again a story to look forward to! :-)

I found the Queen's concern about Maidhien very touching. BUt she certainly is a stubborn little girl, so she'll be ok with any task as long as she's convinced she wants to do that. Legolas , on the other hand, hasn't been so lucky.

Sorry I haven't been reviewing. I have been reading and enjoying it. Legolas (and even Galithil) are very grown up in this one. It certainly is a terrible age, the first attempts at dating. Legolas got some privileges in the last story for being the king's son. Now he sees some of the down sides. Inevitable, I suppose.
But the worst development is that the children seem to now be involved in the plotting against Thranduil. And Tulus really made a mistake here, didn't he, at the end. Telling his son that Thranduil is setting a trap. Obviously that is privileged information and he just made sure it would go straight back to everyone the trap is being set for. I hope he is on the 'right' side of things and not just a better actor than the others.
Looking forward to the next part.

So soon? Hope that the next part comes fast.
I feel so sorry for Tulus, his son is a problem, I recall that Glilivan was a dear friend to Dolgailon, how he felt betrayed and then how he didn't believe at the end that he was a traitor. I even can justify why he took that path, but by now, he should have repent and follow his adar's steps. What a mess.
Love Legolas and Thranduil interaction, so hard to be a prince and to understand that not everybody is prepare for the responsibilities, so clueless, he even see it as a honor, not a burden. Poor guy, it will be hard to find a bride.
Thanks Elliska, hurry up with the next part!

· Chapter 8: The course of true love
Once there, he unstrung his bow, unbuckled his quiver and laid them both on its surface. He removed his knives and their sheaths from his belt and boot and placed them on the table as well. With a grin, he reached into the pocket of his tunic and pulled out a gold coin. He looked at it a moment and then slid it under one of the sheaths. Then he turned to walk towards his washroom while working to unfasten his tunic
I liked the intimate little details here. Legolas feels very unselfconscious and at home. Until his father makes himself known, of course. Bad moment! I suppose Thranduil's suspicions of what happened are normal enough, but I still feel bad that he judged Legolas more harshly than he deserved. Not that he was being a Very Good Boy or anything, but he wasn't taking advantage of anyone. I liked the discussion of what the coin was worth. I think this came up in an earlier chapter too--one of his friends saying he or his father had no use for gold. It's a very different kind of society, and you can see how Legolas in particular might not understand how much that coin would mean to someone. Thranduil was a good king to see to it that the First Year would be taken care of. And in the end, he does tell Legolas that he's proud of him for more than one thing.
I fully understand Legolas's reluctance to talk about Aewen. He must feel sad and humiliated both, and the fewer people who know about it, the better it would seem. But Thranduil came through and his advice to talk to Aewen worked out.
Thank goodness Tulus decided to stay on as Legolas's guard. He's much better than Belloth would be. Much! But it doesn't sound like Glilivan is being particularly wise.
Now what could the meeting that's happening later be about? Maybe telling the boys about the threat to Galithil? I suppose I'll just have to wait for the next story to find out.
I was very happy to see this today. When I got home from the mountains and didn't see a new chapter, I hurried to see if maybe this story had ended and I'd missed it.

This is getting better and better. Two more stories to know Dannenion'f fate? My, you really want to make us suffer...
And where is Galithil's brother? I really liked him, he was so guilt ridden after his parents dead. He was a character that I liked a lot. Hopefully, we will see a litle more of him?

:-) I definitely like to make you wonder what will happen. :-) And yes, Dolgailon will be back in the next story. He has a fairly large role in it, tied to his continuing guilt, actually.

· Chapter 7: Do good he does not intend
Poor Legolas. All he wanted was a little cuddle and Aewen dumped him and he got the blame. Where's the fairness in that? No wonder he felt like punching everyone. But OMG, I was reading along thinking of how grown up Galithil is getting and then he came out with the claim that the First Year needed a lesson. So, first of all, someone needs to tell him, that Aewen made up her own mind and this "snot" isn't responsible for her actions, only his own. And second, ack!
I was thinking after the last chapter that I felt sorry for Anastor and Noruil. They're starting to come around and be decent and I was afraid their fathers were going to ruin their lives. But I figured it would be in the future. I suppose an "intervention" to keep Galithil from marrying Maidhien would sort of be in the future too, but basically, Thranduil didn't even have to wait and set spies of these guys to have an excuse to get rid of them.
Thranduil was funny in his oblivion to Legolas courting Aewen. And by the time his wife broke the news, it was too late anyway. I thought it was very sweet that Lindomiel found her son's courting "charming." And in turn, Thranduil was sweet in what he hopes for Maidhien. A family and a good one. Just what she needs.
It was interesting to see how quickly her change in status had been communicated to the guards. She gets to go right in and see the king in his nightie!
Author's reply
Hehe! We can't have Galithil being too mature, can we? ;-)
And I'm glad to see your thoughts on Anastor and Noruil. They have some tough times ahead of them. And Maidhien definitely does. Very true.
She gets to go right in and see the king in his nightie!
ROTFL! I am bad to say that that comment conjured in my mind a much...more interesting, is how I will phrase it...picture than the one I intended Maidhien to see? ;-) (or the one you likely intended when you used the term 'nightie' but I guess I am in a silly mood this morning).
But yes, Thranduil does want her to feel part of the family. He needs a daughter. :-)

Thranduil is really cunning. With his concession he has ended this dreadful stand-off. If Dannenion acts against his King now Thranduil can also act accordingly and banish him for good. Serves him right. And poor Legolas. I feel sorry for him right now. Another great chapter. Thank you so much. Lai

· Chapter 6: Cut a new path
You have to love Thranduil. He's tough as they come. Except:
Maidhien's expression would have brought Thranduil to his knees
LOLOL. As I believe he observed in the last chapter, it's a good thing he doesn't have a daughter. He knows Dannenion, though. He sees what will move him and what won't. So he tries love as a motivator first but isn't surprised when he has to move on. If I were him, I wouldn't trust Dannenion either. His eagerness to hang around court when he hates Thranduil can't be good.
I liked this too:
"Please explain to me why you find Galithil so objectionable," he said, changing tactics, "while he is still young enough that I might endeavor to correct any character flaws you see in him."
If I were Galithil, I might have flinched at that one. I liked his hesitation over whether he should stand when Dannenion starts giving him orders, the way he would for Thranduil. The use of body position to mark dominance, respect, etc, is foreign to us for the most part, but it's interesting. I think we react to it even though it's unfamiliar because it's body based.
And speaking of body based, I laughed at Thranduil's reaction to the suggestion Galithil and Maidhien had been too cozy. Eirienil is unlikely to thank Maidhien for announcing that she's been kissing boys. It's a good thing Legolas isn't there to hear the start of the news about Aewen. Though given what comes later, perhaps he would have appreciated the warning.
This made me laugh:
In fact, Thranduil had appeared quite eager to get he and his cousins out of the family quarters. Legolas wondered if that had anything to do with the fact that his naneth was due back to the stronghold at any moment and might take Thranduil to task for agreeing to a betrothal without even speaking to her. Not that Lindomiel would object, but Legolas imagined she would not be pleased to be completely left out of the decision either and he suspected that omission had occurred to his father rather belatedly.
Maybe Thranduil should kick her in the ankle.
Legolas had a sobering talk with Tulus. That was very moving. But then Conuion makes a good point about how Tulus was supposed to be the one with judgment while Legolas is still young. I guess some things can't be undone.
Author's reply
Hehe! Yep, that conversation ultimately ended well for Galithil, but it had to be uncomfortable for him a several points, and certainly the two you pointed out. I imagine Galithil definitely would have preferred for Thranduil to go without learning about the swimming incident. :-) And you're right that Maidhien was a little blunt to make Eirienil happy. Legolas would have killed her if she'd been allowed to finish her sentence. ;-)
Maybe Thranduil should kick her in the ankle.
ROTFL!!
I'm glad the conversation with Tulus came off ok. That is the part I fussed with the most here. This was a serious mistake on both Legolas and Tulus's part, but it seems there are at least some extenuating circumstances for both of them too. I'm glad Conuion has to deal with it and not me. ;-)
Thanks so much for the reviews daw. I appreciate them so much!

Awww! this chapter was aboslutely great on so mnay lines!!! First, I loved Thranduil's cunning. It osunds like he's playing with fire too, I fear, but then Dannenio hasn't given him any other chance, so he's really getting his rope and strnagling himself, sadly. And also loved Conunion's stance. And the promise to LEgolas "I have guarded three generations of your family, as I told you. All of them eventually managed to marry, despite the presence of guards This made me laugh so hard.
And poor Legolas, what a shock!!! Well, such is life, bu surely it must have hurt, even more after Galithil and Maidhien managed to solve their problem! Great chapter!
Author's reply
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! Thranduil is definitely playing with fire, but at this point he will be happy to let Dannenion hang himself. He is comepletely disgusted with him.

And Thranduil being unable to glare at Maidhien was really amusing.

"Getting rid of Dannenion might indeed be possible" That is the best solution, place a spider under his bed and bye-bye...really, what a mess, Romeo and Juliet fell short with these two.
Maidhien will be such a great addition to the Royal Family; she is a formidable and loyal elleth. I'm impressed with Galithil maturity, is a far cry for those wild years before his parents dead. He will be, without doubt, a great asset in Thranduil court.
Thranduil's fury in the court room, with Legolas guards, was very well done; I was able to feel it, Poor Tulus and Colloth. And poor Legolas, so clueless and in so much trouble, it certainly seems that the whole Kingdom hates him!
Thanks Elliska.
P.S: Love Calderon de La Barca quote, another one appropriated to Galithil and Maidhien could be "y los sueños, sueños son"(Ok, I have no idea how to translate that to English) Right now, everything seems a dream for those two.
Author's reply
LOL! I bet Thranduil would love your solution. It's a lot easier and faster. Maidhien is going to be a good addition indeed, as you will see. Poor Legolas indeed. He is miserable.
And I totally wish I'd thought of "y los sueños, sueños son"! You are right that is perfect. It doesn't sound as nice in English as it does in Spanish though.

I forgot to say, "Yes, Legolas, girls talk." One time I was talking to a friend who'd told her husband something about a third friend's married sex life. He said, "How would you even know that?" And the friend I was talking to said, "She told me." He was rocked back on his heels. Girls/women tell one another pretty much everything.
Also, I thought it was funny that Thranduil has no trouble being firm with Galithil, only the weeping Maidhien.

· Chapter 5: When love is not madness, it is not love
I know the young ones are in all sorts of distress here, but on finishing this chapter, my first thought was "Poor Thranduil!" LOL. He was just having a boring work day and all this landed in his lap--guards who apparently failed, including one who's been in a problems before; a bunch of squabbling and murderous and pregnant Men; a son who was obviously not where he should have been for reasons Thranduil probably doesn't want to think about; a treasonous subject demanding his daughter and Galithil's scalp; a nephew/foster son in a hopeless romance with a girl whose father is intent on sending her to live in extreme danger. I mean, how much worse could his day get?
Thranduil and his advisors did come up with what sounds like a pretty good solution for the Men though. Legolas made the right decision in taking them to his father.
While Legolas is going to have some 'splaining to do, I'm more worried about Tulus. If he's pays some big price for this escapade, then Legolas is really going to be sorry. I suppose he needs to learn that his guard has to take figurative arrows for him as well as literal ones, so Legolas better not put him in harm's way.
Author's reply
:-) I agree. In its original version the court scene was written in Thranduil's POV. I honestly liked it better that way, but I decided it had to be Legolas's POV, since this is his story ultimately. But yeah, Thranduil has to be wishing for some nice simple petitions at this point, poor guy!
And hopefully, the situation with Tulus has made Legolas feel plenty guilty. It should! But, yes, this has consequences later.
Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!
