What a delight to be idly browsing and come across this delightful story! Not only do the characters and their conversations ring true, but just reading it brought back so much joy. Our beloved hobbits certainly didn't enjoy their adventures as much as we did, did they?
Thank you for remembering!

This is so cute and funny! And it makes a good point about writing a story! Although now I want to hear Pippin's terrible romantic poetry and Sam's stories about Bill!

I think I've read most of these myself! Heh! And as one who bites my own nails, I've had to make Frodo biting his as Elijah Wood does part of my-verse!
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
Author's reply
Personally, I think that Frodo has such a strong sense of personal self control that I couldn't see him getting into bad habits like that, but it just wouldn't do to write a hodgepodge of fanfic without including the one that the largest number of people are familiar with. So glad you enjoyed the fic!

Oh, dear--we do have some who want more stuff in there! Heh! And love all the references I myself recall reading, from "The Care and Feeding of Hobbits" to Indigo Blue's wonderful story and so on! Heh! Ah, yes--all of the Yule tales we've all written....
Poor Frodo!
Author's reply
I'm sure Pippin will be pleased with the fact that so many fanauthors agree with him!

I laughed out loud the first time I read this. Now I shall have wonderful hours rereading the referenced fix! Thank you and brilliantly done.

Dreamflower did most of the heavy lifting for this, but thank you!

"...all those genealogy lessons we gave Boromir..." Oh! Oh, I did one of those! *grins* For B2MEM 2011 at GFIC, remember? =)
I recognized "One Hundred Apple Pies", but quite a lot of these were new ones to me. I shall have to check them out!!

However, to be fair, Dreamflower and I wrote this before B2MEM 2011. But it does seem to be a popular one, and understandably so!
I hope you have fun checking out the stories!

Very funny! New Beta-readers who hadn't BEEN there might be a good idea! Though some of those omissions sound pretty interesting... planning to write them?
Author's reply
Perhaps we would, if other authors hadn't beaten us to it! Right now we're putting together a list of all of the fics we referenced, with links, so if you're interested, you can check them out in a little bit!

//people would be forced to conclude we couldn’t--I couldn’t--take three steps without falling into some fresh and deadly peril//
A pretty accurate summary of fanfiction, I would say. ;-) Thank you, this made me chuckle.

And that is precisely why I have trouble writing gapfillers...
Thanks for reading!

While I recognise quite a few of these I am a little curious as to the authors of some of them, so a listing of titles and authors would be helpfull, as one of your other reviewers has mentioned.
I found my way to S.O.A and Findils epic E.I 1 and 2 from a rec on f.f.net!

So much to giggle about here--I don't know which amused me more, what the characters might think about all we fanfic writers have put them through, or the idea that too many betas spoil the sauce. I suppose too this is a good reminder to look at each fanfic as though no other fanfics have ever been written!
*humming 'One hundred apple pies on the sill, one hundred apple pies....take one down, gobble it down, ninety-nine apple pies on the sill....'*

I think that even one beta was too many for Frodo, lol!

*chortle* Well, clearly you've either been around forever or read all the right fics!
I wonder if you'd consider adding a chapter/author's note to identify them for newbies?
Author's reply
It's the former for Dreamflower, who did most of the research and brainstorming for this. What little I know, I've learned through osmosis.

*giggles* I'm honored to be the source of one of the tales Pippin deems important to be included in the Red Book! I recognize so many of these. Poor Frodo... at least he has loyal readers willing to fill in the gaps. :)
Author's reply
I don't know how loyal he'd think they are, if they're willing to fill them in with all sorts of things that embarrass him! *giggle*
Author Reply: [from Dreamflower]
I am sure that there would have been even more of yours if Pippin had dared to bring them up. But remembering how cross Frodo got over Legolas and Gimli and their bickering, he probably thought it better not to mention that.

Bwahahah!
I can imagine even more additions to the "real" story... like, when Gandalf made Aragorn forget that he actually knew Frodo for quite a long time and he had to forget for the sake of the quest *nod* (Shirebound's wonderful Quarantined series)
Or all of those ridiculous things that happened in their four days of Moria!
You know, that's a lot of Legolas, Boromir, and Hobbits getting in trouble there. I am sure that Aragorn got in bad trouble at least once during the Quest that Pippin didn't mention and Frodo didn't write down... *grin*
Oh, to imagine the possibilities!
Author's reply
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he did, and if he didn't, I'm sure that there are plenty of Dunedain (to say nothing of the sons of Elrond) who will be glad to fill in the rest of the gaps in his life with trouble!
~Celeritas
Author Reply: [from Dreamflower]
Well, we decided to just concentrate on west of the Misty Mountains, because if we had covered all of the rest of the Quest we'd still be writing. And I am sure that Aragorn had his share of trouble; Pippin seemed to concentrate most on the trouble the hobbits got into!

LOL!!! Great story!
I think I read many of those stories Frodo left out, including the "pissing contest" ;-)
And I find it a wonderful idea that Frodo himself gave the permission to write all the other stories down (which includes the fan fiction writers):
and if you’d like to include any of the other things that happened on the Quest, you’re more than welcome to write them down yourselves!
Author's reply
Well, who's to say that fanfic writers haven't just been translating everyone else's private memoirs?
~Celeritas
Author Reply: [from Dreamflower]
That certainly sounds like blanket permission to me!

And what about Aragorn? Why did you leave out the time when was captured by the Orcs and Galdalf had to distract them with fireworks so Legolas and Boromir could save him? Or how he sang the entire Lay of Leithian for three day, and then forgot where he was when Bill bit him from behind, and started anew? And the time when Legolas forced him to use his scented soap, and then he found out he's allergic to it? Or when... :P
Author's reply
I hope Frodo is glad Aragorn wasn't there to add his criticism then! :D

Too funny! The tribulations of a writer are the same, whether one is a 21st fanfic writer or Frodo Baggins himself. I loved all the different adventures that Frodo left out; he'll have to write up some as AU's someday...
Author's reply
Well, of course, the advantage of fanfic writers is that we can make things up! ;)
