Oh,ouch! Alex, you gotta look where you're going Kid! On the other hand, Woo, Hoo! Way to go Alex!!!! It's a good feeling to finish a thing against obsticals, falling down a cliff and embracing a tree is a good example of an obstical, but oh, boy he is going to be one soild bruise from head to toe! And just where were the Maia in all of this or are they behind the conversation with Junior? The other activities sounded like fun, I make a mean Chili but I don't think I would be any good at climbing over barrels! Waiting for Friday, Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Yes, Alex is going be in a lot of pain for a while and his recovery will not be quick as we will see. Perhaps the Maiar were behind the conversation with Junior or perhaps Alex's own subconscious supplied the conversation as a goad to get him moving. Who can really say? Anyway, I'm glad you liked the descriptions of the other activities. Thanks for reviewing. You know how much I appreciate you doing so.

harrowcat · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 46: Search and Rescue

OK, I'll go with the refrain for this story - Poor Alex! Great rescue story and i am glad that the trees cared enough to help. This reminds me of a very old song about whispering trees.

Author's reply

Hi harrowcat. Glad you liked the rescuse and the trees. Poor Alex, indeed, and we're not through with him yet! LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Sunny · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 46: Search and Rescue

Another set of "Fun and games with an Elvish twist"? Poor Alex - again. :-p You are really quite hard on your characters, Fiondil! Glorfindel also got knocked out - or fainted - almost every other chapter in EI 1 and 2 (or so it seemed) and it is the same with Alex in this story. ;-) The tumble certainly knocked Alex' wits loose - hope he won't _remain_ a few shy of a happy meal. Though he hasn't been acting very smart during much of the story. Obviously it is Derek who has the brains and smarts in this story! At least Alex had managed to rattle off an e-mail to Shanna Machell before he rattled his brains loose of its moorings. It will be interesting to see what will come of that. Is Alex going to have more interesting dreams? It would seem to be a waste to not make use of such a convenient knock on the head... ;-)

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Yes, another "Fun and games with an Elvish twist. And as the song goes, you only hurt the ones you love. *grin* Alex will recover well enough though he's not quite out of the woods yet as we will see. As for Alex's dreams, I can't really say at this point. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Lady Edlyn · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 46: Search and Rescue

Dearest meldonya, I just want you to know that I'm sitting here crying. Heartwrenching is truly the only appropriate description of this chapter. I know we all keep saying "Poor Alex", but in this case the adjective was well-deserved. I'm very glad he wasn't too severely injured--physically, at least. Alex's stubbornness reminds me of a certain Ranger-turned-King and I admit that I'm curious about whether "Junior" was just due to delirium and hallucinations caused by Alex's injuries or if a certain Maia or two were involved just so that Alex's survival instinct would raise its head in time to save him. Either way, I'm very glad that he's safe among friends again. Now I''m going to go dig out my new box of Kleenex and get to work. Gorgeously, written, meldonya (and I'm sure that every emotion this chapter wrung out of me, it was ten times more so for you). Take care and bless you! Edlyn

Author's reply

Hi Edlyn. It was heartwrenching to write. I so felt for Alex as he struggled to finish the race. As for "Junior" who can truly say? I have no doubt Maiar were looking out for him. They couldn't prevent what happened but maybe they helped cushion the blow. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate if very much.

someone · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 46: Search and Rescue

And (almost) everything is all right again. I have to admire Alex' determination to finish the race, thought it was a stupid thing to do. Junior... Did the Maiar do something to Alex' dreams again while he was unconscious, or did he only now remember the older dream?

Author's reply

Hi someone. Yeah, Alex is pretty stubborn, but I think he needed to finish that race for his own sake. As for Junior... perhaps the Maiar were responsible for that or perhaps Alex's own subconscious took over and a residual of the dream made its self known to him. Does it really matter which? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read and review. I greatly appreciate it.

UTfrog · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 46: Search and Rescue

Deeply moving chapter. I love it when mortals show the elves real determination. Hope I am the first to ask "who is junior".

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. I'm glad you found this chapter moving. Junior appeared in Alex's dream that he had in the previous chapter, in case you've forgotten. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

harrowcat · 24 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Glorfindel is one sharp pool player - but then he has had a lot of practise with hand eye coordination over the ages! Interesting to see that it is not only the Elves who find it hard to trust those with less, perceived, experience. I am becoming a little concerned that Amroth will be effectively 'out of action' looking after wife and children, (and quite rightly,)just when he is needed most. And watch your feet Alex! Trees like being hugged but not battered!

Author's reply

Yes, Glorfindel definitely is one sharp pool player much to Alex and Derek's dismay. *grin* And of course, Alex is merely being arrogant, seeing himself as better as trained field agent than someone who's never been in the field and never will be. As for Amroth... he'll be fine, as we will see. Good advice, unfortunately a little late, as far as Alex is concerned. *grin* Thanks for commenting, harrowcat. I appreciate it very much.

someone · 23 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

For some reason, I had first hard time imagining Glorfindel playing and even more hitting those balls so well, but I shoudn't have wondered, he has probably played that game for a very long time *grin*. Lovely, Derek can join an almost-Iditarod race! But what is Alex doing, falling off a cliff?! A bit late, but Happy Midsummer!

Author's reply

And Happy Midsummer to you, someone. And you're right. Glorfindel has had many years to hone his skills at billiards and pool. Maybe he even took lessons from Fats Domino. *grin* As for Alex falling off a cliff, we'll see how he fares over the next couple of chapters. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

someone · 23 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Derek is smart. The Elves and Alex are lucky that he's on their side, otherwise everyone would have thought that termination order real. I wish Alex contacted Maddy and told her everything Farrell has done, it might make her believe that this whole operation had been Farrell's personal revenge on McKinley masked as a hunt for a former agent who happened to look like McKinley.

Author's reply

Derek is indeed smart and both Alex and Elves are very lucky to have him on their side. Well, Alex has contacted Maddy (he mentions that fact in one of the chapters after the botched kidnapping) but whether Maddy is getting his emails or plans to do anything about them is another matter. We'll find out eventually what's up with both Maddy and Farrell. Thanks for the review, obsidianj. It's greatly appreciated. Author Reply: Oops! I meant, thanks for the reivew, someone. Sorry about that.

Agape4Gondor · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

I really can't imagine, after all these two friends have seen, that they'd think they might have a snowball's chance in... with Glorfindel and pool. *g* I've got my fingers crossed for the agent in Washington. Hopefully, she'll prove to be an ally. As for Alex and his .... I was in the movie theater for the first LotR movie and a woman loudly said something to the effect: 'Why does that Frodo always seem to get hurt? Why is he always the one in trouble?' She couldn't put two and two together - that Frodo carried the Ring, the Ring called out it its Master, and Sauron and everything else evil fought against Frodo. I'm beginning to wonder if that's poor Alex's lot in life. Are you sure, Fiondil, that Alex isn't carrying the Ring??? *g*

Author's reply

No, Alex isn't carrying the Ring. LOL! But there is a reason, other than my being sadistic, for why things are happening with Alex as they are. This will be addressed in a later chapter. And I'm afraid neither Alex nor Derek have been around the Elves long enough to know better than to challenge them even to a game of pool. As for Shanna... that remains to be seen. Thanks for commenting, Agape. I truly appreciate you doing so.

Lady Edlyn · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Oh, no! I hope there's a Maia or two hanging about keeping an eye on things! Poor Alec is going to be in misery once he wakes up. Being overheated from the race, getting bashed up by hitting the tree and then lying unconscious who knows how long in the snow and cold... * sending healing thoughts Alex's way * A very nice chapter, meldonya. I especially liked Fionwë and Olórin's little mission into Alec's dreams. Let's hope that Shanna can get Alec something useful on Farrell. Are we going to get Derek's stroy about what happened in the mini-Iditarod eventually? I'm sure that after he wakes up and is safe back at the Academy Alec will want to know how Derek did at least. I'm looking forward to Monday's chapter. You do cliffhangers so well! Have a great weekend and please take care. Hugs. Edlyn

Author's reply

Hi Edlyn. We'll see how Alex fares in the next couple of chapters. He's down, but not yet out (metaphorically speaking). I'm glad you liked Fionwë and Olórin here and their little mission of inspiring Alex. We won't get an in-depth description of the mini-Itditaod race but we will learn how Derek did. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend yourself.

6336 · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Erm, Alex, I think you're supposed to go round the trees, not through them?! Let's hops Shanna is able to come up with some information on Ratty and is also on Alex's side! I really, really want to be a fly on the wall when Matty finds out just what has been going on! The Mini Iditarod sounds like fun, so does the snowshoe race, do we get a description of the other activities? You only hurt the ones you love! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Yeah, that's the general idea, but I don't think Alex was in any position to choose. We'll see about Shanna. We'll learn in the next chapter what the other activities were. "You only hurt the ones you love!" -- How very true! Thanks for your comments. You know I really appreciate them.

Lyana · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Aaaand he's out again, folks! Well, I guess Alex had it coming - it's been a whole 6 chapters since he'd been rendered unconscious. :-) Love the dream (and Maiar commentary!), and looking forward to the revelations of what Shanna might dig up.

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. Yup. LOL! Glad you enjoyed the dream and the Maiarin commentary. We'll see about Shanna in the future. Thanks for leaving a review. I really appreciate it.

obsidianj · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Oh, no! It had to be Alex who lost his footing. Alex is awfully accident prone for an agent. Or is he just enjoying himself too much and needed a reminder to be better aware of his surroundings? I just hope he didn't break anything or is out of commission for long. He already missed too much time being in the hospital. Loved the dream sequence. Luckily his old friend didn't scare Alex away or made him feel guilty. Funny, Alex forgot nearly everything from his dream, but the name and he knew what to do with it. I loved the interlude with the two Maiar.

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. I think he was enjoying himself too much, plus he really wasn't paying attention to where he was walking, being too intent on finding the trail. We'll see how he fares in the next couple of chapters. I'm glad you liked the dream sequence and the two Maiar. It was fun to write, especially "Junior". Dreams are like that; you forget everything but one important part and really, that was all he needed to remember at that time. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Larner · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Oh, poor Alex! He's had his share of disasters during this course, hasn't he? I hope he doesn't stay too long in the cold snow. Now, if only Fionwe and Olorin are still keeping an eye on him. (And I know that this Shanna isn't a field agent, but it would be interesting if she were the one just ahead of him on this leg of the race.

Author's reply

Yes, he has, poor guy. We'll see how he fares in the next chapter. And while it's an intriguing idea, I'm afraid Shanna is still in Washington and not in Alaska. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it.

UTfrog · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Back to cliffhangers! You really are good at plotting them.

Author's reply

Hey! I live for cliffhangers. LOL! Thanks for commenting, UTfrog. I appreciate it.

Whispy · 22 June 2012 · Chapter 45: Dreams and Races

Derek has now learned a valuable lesson about Elves...never bet against them in a tests of aim and accuracy. ;) Ah, so Alex potentially has a new ally in Shanna Mitchell...Good. Very good. And ouch! I swear, Alex, you just keep getting beaten up. -shakes head- Not that I should be talking...I've had a few very graceful "crashing-violently-into-a-tree" incidents myself that my friends enjoy reminding me of frequently. ;)Hopefully, he'll escape with only a few bumps and bruises. Looking forward to Monday's update! Whispy

Author's reply

Hi Whispy. Yeah, Derek has certainly learned a valuable lesson about Elves. *grin* We'll see what happens with Alex after his fall in the next chapter. We're back to "Poor Alex" again, at least for the next few chapters. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

obsidianj · 21 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

How many times have I asked for Farrell to have a nice little accident? Now he stoops to forgery. It's a clever little game he plays. No matter what Alex does, Farrell gets rid of him and Amroth. At least that's what he thinks... But he forgot Derek. I like his reasoning. It may give our heroes the ideas they need to avert this plot. Things start moving and I hope I can read the new chapter tomorrow.

Author's reply

You and everyone else, obsidianj. *grin* But that would be too easy, now, wouldn't it? And of course, he doesn't even know about Derek, which is the Elves' saving grace. Thanks for commenting. It's greatly appreciated.

obsidianj · 21 June 2012 · Chapter 43: Further Conversations

Glorfindel and Daeron in the 14th century? That would be a story I would like to see. Loved the conversation between Olorin and Eonwe. Good to know that the Maiar keep watch. I'm not sure that inventing more and more complicated plots to divert the attention of the police is going to work in the long run. Somebody is bound to slip at the wrong moment.

Author's reply

Yeah, I'm sure those two have LOTS of stories to tell of their adventures throughout history but we're not likely to hear about any of them at this time. And you're right about inventing more and more complicated plots. Someone is bound to slip up, since such plotting usually ends up not working anyway. Thanks for reviewing, obsidianj. I appreciate it very much.

calenlassiel · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

ok, I think am worried about all of the elves, I am worried about people finding the elves' DNA all over the world. I hope Alex can help the elves out.

Author's reply

Hi Calenlassiel. I wouldn't worry too much about that and I'm sure Alex will be very helpful to the Elves as we will see as the story continues. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

Whispy · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Wow...I haven't gotten to review your story, but tensions are really cranking up...Some pretty scary stuff to think about. I can't help but wondering if Farrell was told about the Elves' "freaky mind powers" by his little henchmen before he did them off. How would he react to that...I suppose the Elves could have made them forget, but... And, on a positive note, it's nice that Alex and Derek are gwedyr. I really think that Alex needed a friend. Oh, and also, we haven't seen Zach for a while. He isn't the star of this story, I know, but I rather like him. What is he up to? Whispy

Author's reply

Hi Whispy. Yes, the tension is increasing. I have no idea if his henchmen got a chance to tell Farrell their story before they were killed. Maybe yes, maybe no. We may never know. Alex definitely needs a friend and Derek will prove to be a good one. We'll actually see Zach later. He has a minor, but important role to play in this story yet. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Agape4Gondor · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Amazing chapter. I was sure Amroth would have to go under deep cover. Very glad Derek was around and had the sense not to jump to conclusions. Not that I blame Alex. It's been a real roller coaster ride for the poor man.

Author's reply

Amroth refuses to run and hide anymore, not after having finally found other Elves and the love of his life after all these long millennia. Derek is very level-headed and is proving to be a great asset to Alex and the Elves. Alex has indeed been on a roller coaster ride and it isn't over with yet. *grin* Thanks for taking the time to read and review, Apage. I really appreciate it.

Larner · 19 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Farrell is really pushing his luck here. I fear that in the end it will be he who will be terminated with prejudice. And we still need to learn who is the one behind this attack on the Academy and Amroth.

Author's reply

He is indeed pushing his luck here, Larner. We'll see how it comes out eventually. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it very much.

Lyana · 18 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Go Derek! Fresh eyes are always a good thing, and Derek is proving himself to be invaluable. How did Alex get along without him all those years?! Sounds like they've got a good plan (but we all know how badly the best-laid plans can go awry...) Now to get Amroth and Nimrodel safely ensconced somewhere for a few years.

Author's reply

Derek is proving himself very invaluable to the Elves and he will be more invaluable as time goes on. And, of coure, plans can go awry. Hopefully, theirs wont' go to badly. Thanks for leaving a review, Lyana. I very much apprecite it.

Fantasia · 18 June 2012 · Chapter 44: New Orders

Derek is a genius!

Author's reply

You betcha. LOL!
