Oh, a virus in an enclosed environment can be a nasty thing. This does not bode well for the student population or human administrators. At least Alex was instructed to sit tight by Maddy, that's a step forward.
I'll look forward to your delayed "thank you" for the review because it will mean that you're on the mend :-) *hugs*

Well, as I have five minutes before I have to leave for hospital, why delay? *grin* The better sign of my recovery is finding a new chapter on Friday. Anyway, the Norovirus is a nasty critter and we'll see how it affects the Academy. At least the Elves can't get it even if everyone else does. Thanks for your prayers, good thoughts, and reviews. All are greatly appreciated.

Germ warfare. It hasn't escaped my attention that Christy was on the original 'possible agents' list. Alex is acting almost like one of the staff but I think that Grace may be wise enough to work out what the change implies about Alex's knowledge of the Elves.
Prayers going up for you!

Alex takes it rather well when he discovered who dropped him off in the woods. I think this time he really had a reason to fly off the handle. But his head hurt probably too much. The elves are rather high-handed. They should be careful. Humans have a tendency for nasty surprises and there are still other agents out there.
What is going on at the agency? Is there a third party at play aside from the elves pretending to be a third party?
I love the idea of putting the other agents on "ice". Maybe they can take it as a forced "vacation".
Author's reply
Hi obsidianj. Well, maybe he's just getting used to Elves and their quirky sense of humor. *grin* But, you're correct that the Elves should be careful and not be so high-handed. That will cause a bit of trouble later, as we eventually will see.
As for what is going on at the agency, I'm not entirely sure myself, but I kmow there are forces at work and not all of them are on the side of the angels.
And I thought 'putting them on ice' for real was a nice touch. *grin*
Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

It would be fun to be a fly on the wall when Maddy gets that picture of her agents. If she gets it, that is. I really wonder what is going on in the Agency, with that nasty bit of work Farrell being sent to meddle in Alex' investigation, and all the backup _he_ (Farrell, just to be clear) is getting. I also wonder what sort of explanation Max gave to ensure that those agents would remain "guests" in that Inuit village all through the coming winter.
Farrell must be almost frothing at the mouth by now... :-)
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. It would be fun to be that fly, wouldn't it? *grin* We will get a hint later on that all is not well at the Agency, but to say more than that now would spoil things.
I'm sure Max simply called upon clan loyalty to help him with the agents. And Farrell is absolutely rabid by now.
Thanks for leaving a comment. I really appreciate it.

Well, they made it really very realistic, abandoning Alex unconscious in the wild! I trust a Maiar was keeping watch so he was safe.
*lol* Now that's an idea I'd never have thought of to keep Finlay and the others out of the picture without harming them! That's funny to imagine them sitting in that Inuit village in the middle of nowhere during the arctic winter and being unable to leave or in fact do much of anything! And with the Maiar around, they will have to stay and can't harm the Inuit, either. Love that idea! It's great how the people of Wiseman help the Elves. And to send the photos to Maddy ... I'd like to see her face when she gets them and finds out what happened!
Seems it's rather convenient to have Fionwë around to keep Farrell off track when necessary. They really have formidable and useful allies in the Maiar.
You know, if I'd keep my mails as short as Alex, I might actually be able to keep up with my inbox ;)
Oh, that was to be expected that Farrell would turn up to demand answers. For some reason, it's quite enjoyable to see him so much at a loss and annoyed because he lost more than half of his people and got tricked as well.
Keeping my fingers crossed on Monday!
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. I'm glad you like what the Elves came up with for the agents, literally putting them on ice, as it were. I thought is was genius, myself. We'll hear more about them from Fionwë in a later chapter when he gives Glorfindel an update on them. I think when those agents are finally allowed to leave, the first thing they're going to do is resign from the Agency, then move to the tropics. LOL!
And of course, Alex was very truthful to Farrell when he told him he had no idea where the other agents were, which really has Farrell feeling at a loss. Unfortunately, his frustration makes him that much more dangerous.
Thanks for commenting and thanks for your prayers. Both are much appreciated.

· Chapter 29: Gambit
*grin* Looks like Alex has already switched sides, even if it was more of an unconscious act than a conscious one. Not that I am surprised; it was to be expected.
Hm, maybe Alex should have talked his plans over with the Elves before sending that mail. On the other hand, the Elves have been rather reluctant to do anything, so he may have to actually force their hand. Not sure yet; only time will probably tell. And they certainly need to neutralise Farrell and as many others as possible.
Serindë hasn't taken it very well how Alex attacked her father, it seems. He's right, for her age she can be rather naive. After all that happened lately, it's completely understandable that he lost control, and even if I'd prefer he had not attacked anyone, it was still better he did it at Edhellond and with someone who can defend him self, not in the Academy. I hope she's not going to cause trouble, they have enough of that already.
Um ... it seems Alex hasn't thought this plan through very well. Not sure how that is supposed to work, to bring them here and then convince them to leave them all be. To involve the Maiar has its appeal, though I suspect they would play along only by their own rules.
*snicker* Maybe they should give Alex a huge picture of Farrell for archery practice. He'd outdo himself in proper aim!
Derek is really a dear, and I hope Farrell isn't goint to hurt him just to lash out at Alex. And I think it's good that Alex had the counseling session he only used as a cover before; he really needs to talk this out.
So, if Alex knows some of these men, then they are at least really from the Agency, I guess, not someone else just pretending to be and working for Farrell instead. There goes my idea.
As for the end, I can only once again say to you what Derek said to Alex: "You are evil, you know that, don’t you?" Somehow I believe I've said the same to you a few times already. Couldn't they think of a way to make Alex seem tricked, too, without knocking him out?
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. Well, the whole idea was for Alex to join with the Elves; it just wasn't clear how or when. Not that the relationship isn't going to be rocky for a while, as we can see here.
Actually Amroth isn't Serindë's dad, Vorondur is, but she's obviously upset that a Mortal would attack any of the Eldar.
Alex is being impulsive and probably feeling out of his depth. As he keeps telling everyone, he's never had a situation where others are calling the shots. He's always been the one doing so, and with Farrell getting in the way, as he sees it, he's feel as if he's losing control of he situation (which he is in a way).
And the Elves always play by their own rules. *grin*
Thanks for the compliment. LOL! You're not the first to call me that, nor, I suspect, you'll be the last. And thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

"Elves with attitude" indeed! Glorfindel really knows how to make things interesting. Good riddance where the other agents are considered, although I feel sorry for the Inuits. Now if they just could do something really nasty to Farrell! He's way too trigger-happy for the peace of my mind.
In any case, it was really nice to come home to this after the Week of Hell.
Author's reply
Hi Soledad. I always loved that line and was happy to be able to use it. I'm sure the Inuits are having a grand time with the agents, as we will learn eventually. It appears that Alex is indeed learning to trust the Elves and their respect for him is growing - that's very good! And the agents stuck in a remote, non-english speaking Inuit village for six months?! LOL - That's genius! Those Elves don't do anything by halves.
Now to come up with a plan to smoke out the other three and neutralize Farrell... That might not take too much if they keep messing with his head by "disappearing" vans and such. But he's the type that would become even more dangerous as he becomes more unstable - they'll have to tread carefully. And I don't like the sounds of Maddy not responding - something VERY fishy is going on.
It made me very happy to read that there were still 30+ more chapters to go - loving this story!
Author's reply
Hi Lyana. Trust, of course, is a fragile thing and it will take time for both sides to trust each other completely. Dealing with Farrell and the other three agents will be a little harder now and other events will interfere with Alex trying to deal with them, as we will shortly see.
I'm glad you are loving this story and looking forward to more. Thanks for letting me know. Its very much appreciated.

Ouch! Poor Alex! Well at least they gave him some blankies to snuggle in! And came and picked him up.
Maddie is going to have some very bored, very stinky agents come spring thaw and someboidy finally goes to pick them up! Max seems to be the kind of friend to have, can you hide five people, no questions asked.
Ah, second Honeymoons, one of these days B.H. and I will have one of those!
I do wish something nasty would happen to Mr.Farrell and soon, he is getting frustrated and frustrated people do stupid things. Pulling a gun on Alex the way he did was an indication of this. Somebody is going to get hurt and it won't be Alex or Farrell, or one of the Elves but someone with no connection to the Academy.
Good to see the Maia are making themselves usefull, handy folk to have around!
Thinking good thoughts for Monday.

Hi Lynda. Poor Alex, indeed, but he's had worse happen to him. Max, of course, is in with the Elves and would do anything for them.
Everyone wants somethng nasty to happen to Farrell. We'll have to see just what the Muse has in store for him. Even I don't know all the details yet. You're right that someone not even connected to the Academy could be hurt by Farrell's actions.

And that was the whole point, making it look convincing to Farrell. As to why Maddy isn't responding, we will hopefully find out eventually. It may not be as sinister as it seems, but with spies, who can say?

Oh man, what a mess! I'm not sure that was a smart move on Alex's part to start this plan without consulting with Amroth first. It sounded pretty lame when he had to say he had no plan for every question Glorfindel asked.
So, who was the bait after the elves made Alex's plan their own? I just hope Alex is okay and didn't get too bad of a concussion from that blow. I loved Glorfindel's move with the camera and the reference to Candid Camera.
They have now flushed out 5? of the spies, but there are still some out there. After this they are warned. It will not be as easy to get to them.
Author's reply
A real mess indeed, obsidianj. Alex has no clue as to what happens when Elves take ovet a plan devised by a Mortal. Alex is fine, but he's not going to be very happy when he finally wakes up and realizes what happened, as we'll see in the next chapter. And, yes, with only five agents accounted for there are three others still out there who are unidentified and they can cause trouble for Alex and the Elves if they are not flushed out in time.
Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.
Finally some action, and even though Alex was knocked out and is probably in for a bad time, I think down deep he is happy that at least he is doing something to bring all of this to a head. The humans are definitely in the minority and underpowered here, and I'm finding I don't mind that at all :-)

Vorondur, despite Serindë being your daughter, she is not a mushroom. Or shouldn't be one.
Alex, you really should have consulted with Amroth before you set up this thing with Farrell's backup - the Elves would likely have had a lot of good idea for the sting. Being on the other side of the "high-handed" thing is probably good for them - and besides, Alex' instincts are telling him to move _now_, while the Elves would probably put it off.
It sounds as if Farrell is rather carefully controlling what information the other agents are getting. They should have known that their target is married. It makes me wonder just what other information Farrell may have obscured. Or directly falsified.
Poor Alex - out cold again! I hope his brains aren't too badly rattled! But yay for ninja Elves! :-D
Silly docs, having to postpone something like what you face is not fun - but I hope they manage to get their ducks all lined up on The Day. Sending good vibes your way.
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Well, I suppose Serindë just isn't used to seeing a Mortal attack an Elf, so give her some slack. Elrohir will give her the facts of life and straighten her out. Like the other Elves, she has much to learn about dealing with Mortals.
Alex, of course, should have consulted with Amroth first, but obviously he's so used to doing these sort of things on his own it never occurred to him to do so unti he'd set up the sting (sort of)
And yay for ninja Elves, indeed. LOL!

I really liked the action and Alex' sudden - or not so sudden, as the truth may be - shift of alliances. His plan was a risky one, and he really should have discussed it with the Elves first. Helloooo!!!!!
Firstly I want to say that I really don't like Serindë, she is behaving as a 10/15 year old child/adolecent who sees everything in black and white, I mean you know there are serioues issues with an elf/elleth when said elf/elleth of 7 THOUSAND YEARS behaves so childish and immature. Also the argument that she is young may apply to those ANCIENT elves, but COME ON she lived through some very dangerous times, and she is innocent and naive???? HA!!!! What did her parents had her in a cave or a bubble where no one touched her and she could see nothing of the world???? I really can't see what Elrohir sees in her, I would be all like mmmmm you may be cute but I think we shoud wait another 10 THOUSAND YEARS for you to maybe MAYBE GROW UP!!!!!! In the meantime I will see if I can find someone more mature, and who know maybe SHE will be the one. Because really it's like Alex is forbidden to show some emotion after the shocks he's had: elves exist, he nearly dies, meets maiar and then valar, has the pressure of some psycopath to kill someone he doesn't want to, it's a wonder he is sane at all. I would like to see her face were she to meet ERU, that would be quite a shock for her even so she KNOWS HE EXIST, but it would be somewhat comparable to the shocks and pressure poor Alex has enduered.
Also I am really getting exasperated with the way the elves treat Alex, I know he may appear a child to them, but he is a rational being that knows what he is doing and should be shown the according respect. I am starting to have issues with Amroth and his exasperating way of treating Alex as a nothing compared to them MAGNIFICENT ELVES. I mean how many times did Glorfindel complain about the treatment he recived form the Valar???? He said something about them interfiring with everyones life and them thinking that ELVES don't have the intelligence ERU gave them to make decisions on their lives.
As a last point I think it the height of irresponsability on the side of the elves to have Alex in a potentially dangerous situation without being ARMED!!!! I mean he coud have died!!!! I still don't know if he died (which I hope not, since then they would have to find another mortal spy considered special by another elf agent)or was taken by the enemy or was simply knock out by his "allies", those who treat him as a child with no intelligence.
I love this story!!!! I know it may not show with my complains and dislikes, but I really like it and I anxiously await the chapters of Monday and Friday every week.
Hoping Alex is alive and that the elves learn to show some courtesy to mortals.

But I don't think he's going to like that, not one little bit - if my hunch is right, those newly found loyalties are about to be sorely tested. I think he'll eventually acknowledge that it's what needs to happen - he's got to come out of this smelling like roses so Farrell's not tipped off - but yikes!
