Ah, but I can SO see these two situations happening--the father who is afraid to accept his son's "gentler" gifts for fear that son will lose focus on the need to protect the realm demanding such a sacrifice, while the lord and friend who recognizes that gift and that the father secretly was proud of it now encouraging him to express it as often as possible. Wonderful contrast here.
