I love the humorous details in this chapter! :)
Author's reply
Thank you very much! I figured it would take something dramatic and unforgetable to bring Haldir around. LOL! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Larner · 29 August 2012 · Chapter 11
Well, it IS well past time for him to do something about the situation! Poor fish.
Author's reply
Haldir just doesn't get it sometimes. And it was indeed about time he did something. He has indeed met his match in Gilwen and I suspect she will remind him of this frequently. LOL! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
curiouswombat · 29 August 2012 · Chapter 11
Ha! I am a firm believer that hitting someone over the head with a fish does them a lot of good - and Gilwen is clearly a young lady after my own heart. Looks as if she has proved my point, too...
Author's reply
A little fish upside the head does prove to be effective in enforcing and re-enforcing behaviours. LOL! I really like Gilwen, too. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Agape4Gondor · 28 August 2012 · Chapter 10
Oh I love this. The clashing of the two cultures was rich! Nicely done!
Author's reply
lol! Poor Haldir was sure he had thins all figured out. WRONG! Thank you for appreciating the clash of cultures. It is amazing how simple things can be and how very complex society (even elven society) tends to make them over time. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Agape4Gondor · 28 August 2012 · Chapter 9
I loved the ceremony. It's funny to think how Haldir and his friends are creating things that they learnt from their ancestors. *g*
Author's reply
Thank you on the ceremony :-) I had fun trying to figure out the meaning behind the different parts of the ceremony when Fiondil had no clear meaning in mind when he came up with the ceremony other than to make it seem distasteful and barbaric in the eyes of elves from Aman. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Ellynn · 23 August 2012 · Chapter 10
He-he, very interesting and funny misunderstandings. :) I just wish that there had been more about how Haldir and Gilwen fell in love. It would've been much more interesting to see how their relationship had developed, instead of just reading at some point of the story that they were together now. Looking forward for more! :)
Author's reply
There are hints and passages throughout about their relationship growing. It isn't the romance novel that my Crossroads of Time is though. I felt that the way the story was progressing, going more in-depth on the relationship didn't quite work for some reason. This story has been a tough nut to crack all around and has been at least 5 years in the making so far. I'm glad that you are looking forward to more!
Larner · 22 August 2012 · Chapter 10
Oh, I LOVE this! About time he made it official! Silly Elf!
Author's reply
Aren't cultural differences fun? Especialy those one doesn't expect to encounter. It is so much fun wrong-footing Haldir. LOL!
eiluj · 22 August 2012 · Chapter 10
Life without tables isn't to be contemplated! We have already begun work on the maps. Haldir and I have attempted one of all of Beleriand based on what we could remember from a map we saw in a book in Elrond’s library a few ennin ago. -- This actually makes me glad I don't know any elves.... So there Haldir was, in a blue funk, having pilfered all the Lórien elves' arrows ... most of said arrows stuck in targets quite a ways away from him -- I actually expected the next scene would be an orc attack on the village. A good thing Damrod had this conversation. Otherwise Haldir'd still be practicing his target-shooting....
Author's reply
Yeah, I have a hard time thinking about what I would do with no tables in my house. It would have been terribly funny to have an orc attack once all of his arrows were used up. However, the assault which assailed Haldir was one he found more horrifying, I'm sure. Sometimes leading a horse to water isn't enough, and he has to have the liquid poured down his throat to make him understand he is supposed to drink it. Poor bewildered Haldir! Thanks for your comments!
Ellynn · 15 August 2012 · Chapter 9
The whole ceremony is very nicely described, I like it. :)
Author's reply
Thanks! The real trick was figuring out what the meaning and symbolism were behind each of the parts of the ceremony when Fiondil didn't know even though he made up the ceremony. Fortunately I had good literature teachers in school and can find symbolic meaning in just about anything. LOL! Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 15 August 2012 · Chapter 9
And so he has instituted the very traditions by which he was initiated as a warrior! Excellent!
Author's reply
Well, after getting so upset and defensive about the braids, Hal and company had to give them to others. I don't think he intended to start the tradition but he did just that in the very act of perpetuating it. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
I hope Sulion's silence is not ominous! I rejoice the injuries are relatively slight, and that the egg sacs and their defenders are destroyed!
Author's reply
Sulion's silence is more brooding than anything. An ego is a terrible thing to bruise...LOL! Those egg sacks and spiders were a nasty lot. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
eiluj · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
Not the neatest of military actions, but Haldir & Co. killed all the bad guys, while none of the good guys were killed or maimed. And the eyes of the new elves were opened! Interesting that Lothlórien had Fëanorian lamps. I don't know if the Noldor would still have been making them in the late Third Age, or if perhaps there was a large supply because of all the elves who had departed Middle-earth, but surely Galadriel could have seen to it that Lórien was well supplied. [Wow -- just think of all the stuff left behind by the elves who departed in the course of the Third Age! Talk about plot bunnies....) I am deeply thankful nothing worse than egg sacks was discovered in the cavern. An Ooops you may wish to correct: When the way opened up into a wide room, Haldir suddenly stopped. Brethil a grandson of Lord Saelon sidestepped to avoid running into him and cursed and sore angrily -- I think Brethil is swearing rather than being pained (though of course a wound can be angry too).
Author's reply
I may have completely messed this up but I seem to recall some lines in FoTR talkign about the shuttered lamps used in Lorien. If not, then Galadriel would have had contacts and woudl have been a scavenger of all things Noldorin. I think so anyway. I liek the plot bunnies you have released concenring this idea. I hope someone adopts a bunny if I don't have time to myself. Thanks for pointing out the oops. Posting did terrible to things to my formatting and then I changed some wording slightly and apparently I was slighted by my change. LOL! Thanks for reading, reviewing, and correcting!
curiouswombat · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
That's certainly a well written description of the spiders' lair - I was quite glad I read it before dinner rather than after! And I love the idea of Angaril as a 'more tolerable' suitor.
Author's reply
When I first wrote the spider lair description, I was alone and it was late evening and my black dogs, which are in visible in the dark, decided they missed me and were tired of being outside. So...they jumped up and scratched at the windows and about scared me out of my skin. This cahpter was as exciting to write as it is to read! LOL! I find I rather like Angaril and find him more tolerable myself. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Fiondil · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
One of my favorite chapters of the story so far. Sûlion is a piece of work, isn't he? That the Celos Galen warriors were able to be effective against the spiders speaks well of their training by the Lothlórien Six. Poor Haldir having to twice save Súlion from the spiders. Someone must really hate him. LOL! Great chapter, ellie.
Author's reply
I'm pleased you like this chapter so much. It is one of my favorites as well. Sulion really is a piece of work and he really doesn't know when to shut up - until the spiders silence him. As you already know, Haldir finds many instances to be "Poor Haldir" and it really just doesn't let up much for our intrepid hero in so many different ways. LOL!!!!! Thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate it very much!
eliza · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
There must be some award for poor Haldir for putting up with Sulion and why do I think his quietness going back is not good? Geat description on the spiders and their nest, I had to put down my lunch once or twice while reading it. Yuck E.
Author's reply
Haldir knew he had to win over the people and save of the settlements by vanquishing the spiders and proving the value of warriors as well as the value of hunting the enemy. He was pretty much forced to put up with the annoying guy but what better way to win the annoying guy over than to save his sorry skin - twice. I watched the Shelob scenes several times to get the feel of the spiders just so. Sorry for disturbing your lunch! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Agape4Gondor · 8 August 2012 · Chapter 8
Another great battle scene. Haldir has once again shown himself a true warrior - patient even. Wow.
Author's reply
Haldir did have to be patient for he knew that the concept of warrior was on trial in this endeavor as was his own future in the settlement and the futures of his comrades. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 3 August 2012 · Chapter 7
Definitely a step forward here toward securing the safety of the settlements.
Author's reply
It is a step forward, but a cautious one and not one to be taken lightly. We'll see how it goes for our intrepid heroes and the newbies... Thank you for reading and for your comment!
eliza · 1 August 2012 · Chapter 7
Another great chapter Ellie, well done. I wonder if all warriors, no matter what the age go through this? needing to fight but not wanting to fight. ***sighs*** Since you ended with sort of a cliff hanger hope you post soon. E
Author's reply
Thank you very much! I suspect that most warriors do go through this at some point, understanding the need to fight but not wanting to necessarily. It has got to be tough, too, when you don't know the terrain as well as you would like and knowing, too, what history may ultimately be throwing at you. I will update again next Wednesday. Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Ellynn · 1 August 2012 · Chapter 7
And now I'll be in fear for the elves who will come with Haldir... Another great chapter, dear. ;)
Author's reply
Haldir can handle quite a bit and has taken green recruits into battle before. He may not be thrilled about it, but he knows how to get a job done. I'm glad you are continuing to enjoy the story :-) Thank you for reading and reviewing!
curiouswombat · 25 July 2012 · Chapter 6
“Could…could we be influencing the future of the Galadhrim by imparting our knowledge to them such…such that it changes the time from which we come?” Good thinking Rumil - although it might be that you are in a logic loop, and only because you went back to teach them did they learn things so that someone was then able to teach you when you were an elfling...
Author's reply
It is true that it could be an infinite loop of cause and effect, but they really can't know waht thigns they caused to happen and what things would have come about anyway. It could cause one to second guess himself though... Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Ellynn · 25 July 2012 · Chapter 6
Oh, the last words sound so sad! :(
Author's reply
The last words do sound sad and that pall does hang over them always it seems, yet there is good to come as well as they certainly do deserve. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 25 July 2012 · Chapter 6
Definitely thoughts to ponder at the time. Changing the past could indeed cause unlooked for changes to many threads leading to the future. But they have done what they are trained to do, after all.
Author's reply
They have done what they are trained to do and what they were asked to do so they are in a difficult position. Even if they had thought of it all sooner, I don't know that it would have changed their behavior. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Agape4Gondor · 25 July 2012 · Chapter 6
As peculiar as it might sound, I find I am having difficulties leaving comments as this story progresses. I've tried to figure out why and have come to this conclusion. I feel like I'm reading Tolkien. The longer the tale goes, the more I am reminded of the tales of the horrors when Feanor and those who followed him from Valinor came to Beleriand and died amidstnpain and betrayal and courage. The tales of the Elves has always been a tragedy, to me. I weep and suffer at their struggle. This is a difficult tale, emotionally, to read. Bravo in the midst of my sorrowing.
Author's reply
I am honored that you feel as if you are reading something that Tolkien himself might have written when you are reading this story. The tales of the Elves are indeed full of tragedy and pathos and it is sometimes as difficult to write about them as it is to read about them. However, in Tolkien there is also ever a striving for what joy may be had among the elves, and the things in which they find joy are sometimes surprising. Thank you for your comments, Agape. They are very much appreciated.
Larner · 19 July 2012 · Chapter 5
Well, now the folk of Celos Galen see the true worth of experienced warriors, I deem! Shelob's brothers and sisters, or perhaps earlier get?
Author's reply
Yep, the ellyn of Lorien have proven the usefulness of a warrior. The spiders are an earlier get. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Larner · 19 July 2012 · Chapter 4
Aha! The penny has at last dropped! It is a horrible thing to contemplate, I suppose. But perhaps the warriors from this settlement were so excellent because Haldir, his brothers, and their companions were brought there when and as they were.
Author's reply
He and his friends are horrified, but they do at least have an explanation and some much needed understanding now. You will see how Haldir and his comrades come to shape things and be shaped in return. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
