Oooh, this sounds promising! I enjoy stories where Pippin is the unlikely hero, and this has all the makings of it. Don't leave me hanging, I want to know what kind of nightmares he has to wake his friends up from!

Hello Indigo Bunting. I see you are still writing - The River remains a great favorite of mine - and this new effort looks like it will be a very satisfactory tale indeed. And utterly different. This is a very cool idea you've hit on. I happily wait to see what sort of trouble a shattered palantir can cause our Fellowship friends.

Hello :) That was an intriguing story. Is there any hope for more chapters? :) Please? :) There was always so little of good Pippin's adventure plotlines that I want more of this :) Pippin is never the one to be on his own in adventure LOTR or post LOTR stories. Usually he is with Merry or Faramir or Eowyn or most of the Fellowship. That he would be by himself and saving all of the Fellowship is q. an unusual plot. And here he will be in a dream world. I had a very stressful 4-5 months becouse both my parents was very ill and I'm a bit ill too so now when they are getting better I need some hobbit's adventure for cheering :) Recently I search for a bit of funny, fantastic or adventurous fanfiction plots. I greatly enjoyed Larner fanfictions but it is usually more solemn and painful and mystical. Now I need chereful stories or some with much adventure and action but with happy endings :) I greatly recommend the story about Bilbo in Valinor writing letters with Sauron - "the Prisoner and the Hobbit" by Dreamflower. Greetings to you Indigo and greetings to Larner :) Love your stories :) tal

I was stunned then delighted to see an update from you, my dear. It has been so long since I have heard from any of the 'original' but long absent, members of our Fellowship and this gave me hope that even tho' we haven't heard from them, that they are still out there thinking of our heroes still. I adore this story you have a wonderful knack at hooking someone and reeling them in, no hope to escape (even if I wanted to). I hope we get another update soon, but completely understand how life can be messy and block out the things we love to do. Cheers and much love (and admiration)!

Wow! On the one hand I am relieved that Pippin is not alone, on the other hand the only way to save his friends is to join them in their "deep sleep". I really hope Gandalf will not lose control!

Dreamflower · 20 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

Oh, this is exciting and mysterious! It's very suspenseful--I am eager to learn what Merry is dreaming of, and how Pippin will be able to help him. BTW, I love stories in which Gandalf and Pippin get the chance to interact--this chapter is just lovely for that alone!

Kitt Otter · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

This about to get seriously epic!! I am dying to know what each of them is dreaming about. Pippin's got his work cut for him!

Marianel · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

Oh dear I must have slipped on the keys and I meant infront and enter ofcourse below here

Marianel · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

i have been waiting for this update indeed and I was pleasantly surprised when I read it today:)Pippin is a brave hobbit and I have. faith in him and Mithrandir to help their friends come around again. I can see them infernot of me in that little crammy room as I believe it is, at least in my head as Im a bit claustrofobic. If I was to enheter there I would like A wisard too! very wellwritten and thank you.

shirebound · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

I'm greatly enjoying this creative tale. Pippin and Gandalf make a wonderful team.

Larner · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

Truly an eerie situation to find himself within. Now--to find Merry and to convince him to waken!

Bakoneko · 19 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

Such a cool story so far! I'm a huge fan of The River - I reread it regularly - and it always seemed a real shame that you hadn't written anything else. So I'm so glad to see something new from you, and I'm enjoying this so much! Thank you! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Molly · 18 January 2014 · Chapter 2: A Broken Stone

So exciting to see another chapter! Some of the mystery is revealed--the Fellowship touched a palantir--but more remains to be solved (how was it broken?). I know Pippin is nervous but I have no doubt he'll succeed at his task. Thanks so much for sharing.

PennyRavenclaw · 24 December 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

I love this story, the amount of detail you've put in is really good. I hope you update :)

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I'll keep updating... it'll just be slow going is all.

Andrea · 15 December 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Oh my, what a beginning! I think "hooked" is just the right word, I'm hooked, too ;-) But I can't figure out how Pippin should know that he MUST not touch any of his friends! I'm looking forward to reading more.

Author's reply

Thanks Andrea! I think your question will be answered in Chapter 2.

Marianel · 1 December 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Oh My god Im intrigued!I just cant wait for the next chapter because this one was so very good and exiting!I saw the places in my own head while I read.

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of the story as it's posted.

Kitt Otter · 29 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Ahhh, so much suspense. Moria is my favorite chapter in all LotR -- I love the exploration of deep, ancient places. My appetite is whetted. I'm hooked!

Author's reply

Thank you, Kitt! I like the Moria chapter a lot, too. My favorite part of the books is when the whole Fellowship is together.

Fantasia · 27 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Well, you really got my attention. I do remember your other story very well. It was very good and I loved it. I'm sure this one will be as good, if not better than the other one. Thanks for posting. Time for Pippin to show his quality, I suppose

Author's reply

Thanks Fantasia! It's great to hear that you liked "The River". I don't know if this one will be better; I suppose it depends on what kind of story you want. This one doesn't seem destined to be quite as deep, but there will still be obstacles to overcome. I hope the rest of the story will prove to be enjoyable.

Dreamflower · 27 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Ah! At last! I got to read the chapter last night, but then when I went to comment, I had some internet navigation trouble. I think I'm going to love this very much. I like the opening chapter in Merry's POV, and I am very intrigued with what it could be that has befallen the Fellowship. I also love that you show how Pippin has matured: enough to swallow his own disappointment at not being able to explore with the rest in favor of carrying his own weight and fulfilling his responsibilities. Very nicely done! (BTW,in case you are interested, I wrote an essay on gapfillers in which I used your story "The River" as an example: The Classic Lord of the Rings Gapfiller: How to Keep Folks Reading When They Know How the Story Turns Out I keep forgetting to post it here!)

Author's reply

Thanks, Dreamflower! Sorry it took so long to reply to this review. I do hope you like the story. Writing Pippin is a bit of a challenge for me. I like all the members of the Fellowship, and I love the parts of the books where they're all together, but I feel less affinity for Pippin than for some of the others. I think we all have characters that we find easier or harder to work through. Hopefully I will do him justice. I don't like it much when Pippin is written as childish. He's somewhat impulsive, but if he were childish, I don't think he'd have been selected to go on the quest. I read your essay, and I'm overwhelmed! It's an honor to have been chosen as an example in such carefully crafted piece of work. I can tell you've read a lot of fanfiction and spent a good deal of time thinking about the craft of writing. The other stories you used as examples are solid works (though I haven't read one of them). Some of those authors were inspirations for me to start posting my own ideas. The response I continue to receive for "The River" nearly seven years after I finished posting it continues to amaze me. The most rewarding thing for me is that people genuinely seem to get into it. (Did you know that someone designed a book cover for the story? I'll post the link below.) My goal has always been to write stories of the best quality I can manage. I'm just fleshing out things from my own imagination. And if other people can take pleasure in them too, so much the better. http://papaveracee.tumblr.com/post/49603295298/the-river-by-indigo-bunting-the-fellowship-must

Larner · 26 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Oh, dear--couch a fragment of whatever the stone was and fall asleep, eh? Now, to see how Pippin does at getting them out without touching the fragments himself! So wonderful to see you writing again! Welcome back!

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner! It's good to be back, and it's nice to have a review from you again!

Dreamflower · 26 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

OH! Oh my! I wish I had time to read this first chapter NOW. But I will as soon as I get home from work! I just finished re-reading "The River" again, and wishing you had written more fic! I'm SO excited!

Author's reply

Yay! If you were happy to see this new story, I think I might have been even happier to see a review from you. I remember how insightful and encouraging you were during the posting of “The River". I looked forward to your comments with every new chapter. I don't know if enough readers understand just how much solid, thoughtful reviews mean to the writers, regardless of whether those reviews are positive or negative. Your reviews are golden. I’ll admit to being a little nervous on setting out again. “The River” went so well that I think it’s going to be a hard act to follow. I was very satisfied with it, and the readers seemed to be, too. I’m hoping everyone enjoys the follow-up.

shirebound · 25 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

Oh my goodness, this is so suspenseful and mysterious! I'll eagerly look forward to chapter 2 whenever you're ready to post.

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound! I'm excited to be posting again. Hopefully folks will enjoy the story.

Molly · 24 November 2013 · Chapter 1: The Lost City

You don't know how much I needed this today. I loved "The River" and I'm so eager to see where this story goes, even if it takes a while. Poor Pippin! Seems as if he has quite the task on his hands. Thanks for sharing.

Author's reply

Thank you so much, Molly. I know what you mean about how something good to read (especially when it's unexpected) can help turn a bad day around. I'm honored if this is one such story for you. I hope you enjoy it!
