I love Elrond (book Elrond) -- he's so calm and welcoming... :-)

Author's reply

I love the Professor's description of him as "as kind as summer".

This is absolutely lovely. It has a peaceful air to it.

I'm so pleased you like this, and I'm extra-special pleased to have you back in our lives and loving arms. *smooches*

*squee* What a wonderful scene with one of my most favourite characters, Elrond! I love this glimpse on the younger Bilbo just about to discover the big world at the start of his Adventure. "Still, perhaps I should encourage the artisans to craft a few pieces of hobbit-sized furniture, and put them aside. Just in case." Lovely line! ♥

Author's reply

Awwww, thank you. I really enjoyed imagining this scene. Who's to say that Elrond didn't have a bit of insight about this future possibility?

Linda Hoyland · 3 February 2013 · Chapter 1

This was just lovely. I always wondered how Bilbo knew he could retire to Rivendell!

Author's reply

Thank you, Linda. Bless the Professor for leaving us so many lovely gaps to fill.

Just in case Very nice! So, Bilbo knew that he would be welcome in Elrond's house when he set off after his birthday party. And he must have been very surprised (and pleased) to find hobbit-sized furniture already awaiting him :-)

Author's reply

Thanks, Andrea! I do think it would comfort Bilbo to know, in years to come, that he would be welcomed back to Rivendell.

Thank you so much ! Isn't it nice to be able to imagine so many "what if..." and "I wonder..." scenes?

What a lovely little scene between Bilbo and Elrond. I can see this conversation happening at Rivendell. I would love to see Elrond's library. Now we know how come Elrond in "Master" and why Bilbo is so sure he can go and live with the elves.

Author's reply

Thank you. I greatly enjoy imagining these small (yet significant) moments.

hello Shirebound, I squeed in delight at this story - having just returned from my 7th viewing of the film. A perfect depiction of our beloved Bilbo and Master Elrond, and I too would want to live in Rivendell - if I didn't want to live in Bag End even more!

Author's reply

BB, I love hearing from you! I'll take up residence in Rivendell, and we can send letters back and forth between the Last Homely House and Bag End. :)

What a sweet story, my dear! This would be indeed be a splendid place to live for all of us for the reasons Bilbo gives. I'm reading Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit by Corey Olsen (great book that I recommend) and he was saying this is where both the Baggins and Took sides were both satisfied. So cute of Elrond to have the foresight to build some hobbit furniture. Bilbo is so lucky - in more ways than one! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

That sounds like an interesting book. Thanks for the rec! Oh yes, wouldn't we all love to visit Rivendell, or indeed live there? I'm so glad you like this little story. Think how delighted Bilbo would have been years later, to find furniture all ready for his comfort.

Oh, what a plesant surprise to check my e-mail and find this. This does explain why Elrond is refered to as 'Master Elrond' in the books and not 'Lord', which he was, as the last, uncrowned king of the Noldor-in-Exile in Middle Earth. Keep these little gap fillery thingies coming, it apears that your Muse is raring to get back to work! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Thank you, Lynda. I'm glad my Muse is peeking her head out again, hopefully in anticipation of inspiring a larger story. Author Reply: Thank you, Lynda. I'm glad my Muse is peeking her head out again, hopefully in anticipation of inspiring a larger story.

And so it begins, though it will be another sixty years before Elrond's vision comes true. A lovely little vignette, Shirebound. Like Bilbo, I wish I could live in Rivendell, too.

Author's reply

Thank you, Fiondil. I wish we both could live there!

This makes me feel very warm and cozy, as any piece about Rivendell and hobbits should! What a wonderful friendship arose between Elrond and Bilbo, and I like your take on it very much indeed.

Author's reply

Thank you so much. You know how much I love 'warm and cozy', and it's clear that this special friendship must have started somewhere.

Lindelea · 31 January 2013 · Chapter 1

Awww. I don't wonder that Gandalf (and now Elrond) have a soft spot for hobbits. So do I! ...and various and sundry others, who write delectable hobbity stories for the consumption of such as myself. I am confused, however -- how is this movie, versus bookverse? It has been too long since I read The Hobbit, and I'm not sure how they differ at Rivendell. I do know that Bilbo calls Elrond kind as summer. Or does he? Now I'm truly confused and going to seek out some chocolate for consolation.

Author's reply

Awwww, thank you. Gentle hobbit tales will always be first in my heart (and pen). This is movie-verse because in the books (LOTR), Elrond is always referred to as "Master Elrond". In the movie, it's "Lord Elrond". I have no idea why PJ chose to make this change. I hope you enjoy the chocolate. *wants*

Larner · 31 January 2013 · Chapter 1

Lovely images here, and a bit of foresight from the son of Earendil regarding the joint future to be shared with a particular visitor to his small but important land. Lovely, Shirebound!

Author's reply

Thank you. I really appreciate how much the film shows us Bilbo's love for Rivendell, from first sight to last.

Laikwalâsse · 31 January 2013 · Chapter 1

lovely moment between Elrond and Bilbo. This scene I could imagine in the film. Sadly it was not there but to read it now was just as satisfying. And now we know why Elrond is called Master...thank for this lovable little story. Lai

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I got to thinking about how Elrond is called 'Master' all through the books LOTR, but 'Lord" in the films. It was fun imagining this scene between these two.
