shirebound · 8 February 2013 · Chapter 2: The Choice

“Life is a gift,” the old woman had said as the two of them sat before the entrance of her tent. “It can also be a burden. If you are determined to this course, then you must make it less burdensome.” That's one of the wisest things *any* of us can learn. This is such an important journey -- physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually -- and I suspect he will be a different person at the end of it.

Author's reply

Hi Shirebound. It is a wise thing that we can all learn and the physical journey Maglor and the others are taking is probably less important than the spiritual journeys they are on, though they may not realize it at this time. I have no doubt Maglor will be a different person at the end of it (and so will the others). Thanks for leaving a review. I really appreciate it.

Celeth · 8 February 2013 · Chapter 2: The Choice

Thank you for the new chapter! I'd been peeking in the last few days, hoping for it, and now finally its here. Hmm, I somehow suspected it would be Maglor, but I wasn't really sure :-) By the way, I do believe you've lived in Middle Earth for a long time, you are so familiar with the geography of the land, even when its all covered by ice...

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. I post on Mondays and Fridays. As for my familiarity with the geography of Middle-earth, a very good atlas does help. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Ilya of Aewellond · 8 February 2013 · Chapter 2: The Choice

Another amazing chapter! I feel very sorry for Maglor, having to go through all this just so he can let himself die. Hopefully the other Elves will find him before that happens. Not entirely sure why he thinks he needs Feanor's forgiveness- it should be the other way around! Is the crone really a Mortal, or Someone else in disguise?

Author's reply

Hi Ilya. I'm sure he feels that it is safer to ask for forgiveness than to demand it. He might have had a lot of anger toward his father that needed to be addressed. And the crone was probably a Mortal. After all, even Finrod acknowledged that Andreth to ba Wise Woman of the Edain and respected her for her wisdom, so there's no reason to think that the crone wasn't who she appeared to be. Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

UTfrog · 8 February 2013 · Chapter 2: The Choice

Figured it had to be Maglor, but am still pleased to be right. You have fooled me before. Very moving chapter. Poor Maglor has so many individuals to remember. Good descriptions of the horrible weather conditions. This story has wonderful potential. Thanks, as always.

Author's reply

A number of people have wanted me to write a "Maglor goes home" story and this is what I've come up with. I hope it does not disappoint. And having lived (and still live) through any number of blizzards, I had no problem describing the weather here. *grin* I'm glad you found the chapter moving, UTfrog. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Laikwalâsse · 6 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

uh, a new story and such a intriguing one! I must admit I had to look first who Denethor was but now I´m on board and eagerly looking forward whom they have to rescue and bring home. I have some suspicions but let´s see. I will have a lot to read to catch up with EA and to follow this lovely story but that´s a really bearable burden...*g*. Lai

Author's reply

Hi Lai. Denethor, of course, is an OC as are all those who join him in his quest to find the Exiled One and save him. I'm glad you are looking forward to seeing whom they have to rescue and bring home. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

galathil · 5 February 2013 · Chapter 0: A Conversation Among the Valar

Hi Fiondil;I ask my self how did I miss this chapter. Answer I don't know.Have read and am hooked, about to read the next chapter. It will be interesting,to see who the Valar send (Wish we where having a "little bit" of snow and ice instead of this heat wave Australia)to meet with The Elf. I have my own opinion on who our elf is,be interesting to see if I'm right.Off to read the next chapter.LOL Galathil

Author's reply

Hi Gaalthil. Possibly because I just posted this chapter, as this is a new story. And I would rather take the heat wave then the snow and ice that I have to deal with any day of the week, trust me. *grin* Hope you enjoy the story. THanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 5 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

To have hope once more is a truly great gift. May their journey be swift and not too fraught with peril.

Author's reply

Yes, it is, Larner. But I fear your prayer for a swift and safe journey for them will not be answered (or where's the story?) but it will be (hopefully) interesting, at least for the reader. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 5 February 2013 · Chapter 0: A Conversation Among the Valar

So, hopw]e of return remains even in this cold age. And the way is frozen? Interesting--then north might prove the way indeed. Now--which?

Author's reply

We'll find out as the story progresses, Larner.

bookworm · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Oooh new story *puts bets on Maglor*

Author's reply

Hi bookworm. We'll find out soon enough if you bet correctly. *grin*

6336 · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 0: A Conversation Among the Valar

I have been trying to figure out which of the Valar are having this conversation, Manwe and Namo obviously and, I think, possibly, Irmo. This is snother of those occasions when being a fly on the wall would be an advantage! I remember the kerfluffle when you wrote the short story that this is an expansion of. We live in interesting times! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. I suspect all the Valar are in on the discussion but the only two of them we can say for sure are there are Manwë and Námo. I purposely did not specify who was saying what, though in one instance you can tell it's Námo speaking because of what is said, because in speaking mind-to-mind, they are all in on the conversation wherever they happen to be. And we do indeed live in interesting times.

Laer · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Hope is such a good feeling to have. It seems to brings the smell of cherry blossoms to me when I feel there is hope. They seem to be excited to have something to do besides wait and freeze their behinders off.

Author's reply

Hope is indeed a good feeling to have, Laer. Interesting that you smell cherry blossoms, but it's understandable. And yes, having a purpose in life does make one excited. Thanks for revieiwing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 0: A Conversation Among the Valar

I love your writing. It makes me want to brush out my paper and pens and draw. Creating is such a wonderful outlet for feelings. And you, sir must have some very good ones to create something so wonderful and addicting. Hmmm now who can it be? ;)

Author's reply

Hi Laer. I wish I had the talent to draw some of the scenes that I write, but I don't. Do feel free to draw them yourself. *grin* As to who it can be, we'll find out soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

shirebound · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Oh my goodness, how fascinating. I'm totally hooked already and can't wait for more!

Author's reply

I'm so glad, shirebound, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Thanks for letting me know.I appreciate it.

curiouswombat · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Oh yes - I am really looking forward to reading this as it progresses.

Author's reply

I'm so glad, cuirouswombat. THanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

ellie · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

I loved the "scent of a new story" comment made by one of the other reviewers. From the outset they just have hope to go on, yet that hope is such an important gift that the Valar will give them. Hope inspires people to many things. Let's hope that their hope is enough for the one they are sent to save. What an amazing adventure lies ahead!

Author's reply

So do I, ellie, it's a neat image. And hope is sometimes the difference between life and death. These Elves have chosen life over death: death of the spirit more than death of the body. We'll see how the continue to keep hope alive as the adventure continues. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Tari · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 0: A Conversation Among the Valar

I'm hooked and waiting for more. Who are the mysterious Elves, she wonders?

Author's reply

You'll just have to wait and find out, Tari, but I promise I won't leave you hanging for long. Glad you're hooked. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Kevana · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

*sniff sniff* The yummy scent of a new story. It smells like ice and juniper and wooly mammoth fur and cold wood. Unexplored time period! Ice Age! Long-lost Elves! A perilous journey! A distant home, calling and calling... Oh, this is gonna be good. *grin* Poor Denethor and the others, thinking they wouldn't be able to go home after all that time. That must have been truly frightening and it's amazing they didn't slip into despair from it. -Kevana PS: I seem to have gotten in the habit of leaving peace offerings on my reviews so please do enjoy the supposedly most soothing piece of music created to date*. Weightless by Marconi Union. Don't listen while driving. It might not be That Famous Lullaby but it sure conked me out pretty quick. https://soundcloud.com/justmusiclabel/marconi-union-weightless *According to some sources Have a lovely week, Fiondil, and thanks for all your hard work and the new story!

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Thanks for the music file. I'll listen to it while I'm working and hopefully it won't put me to sleep. *grin* I think Denethor and the others were in despair, or at least were apathetic and merely going through the motions by this time, so this adventure is just what they need. They now have a purpose and a goal and that is always important for anyone, Elf or mortal. Anyway, I'm glad you're all excited for this new story. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Fantasia · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

This is great! I was thinking that I will miss your updates every week and here we have another story! I won't speculate who is the Exiled One, I have an idea, but with you, it is better no to guess, you really like to surprise us. Thank you

Author's reply

You're most welcome, Fantasia. I'm glad you are looking forward to reading this story. Hopefully it will not disappoint. It's a bit different from my usual fare but I've had fun writing it. Thanks for your support and encouragement. I appreciate it.

6336 · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Ooo, a new story, but not about the Elf Academy crew, differant Elves with a differant purpose. I do know who they are tracking down, let's hope they journey swiftly and safely, but where would the tale be in that?! Waiting for Friday, Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. No, this is not Elf Academy, and the journey will neither be swift, nor safe, or, as you say, where would the tale be in that. Hope you like this one. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

Ilya of Aewellond · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Yay, something else to read! I hope Denethor and the others find the Exiled One soon (I think it's Maglor, but it's just a guess!) Is Denethor's father Mablung of Doriath or is the name a coincidence? Wonder if this band of elves will meet any of the gang from Elf Academy? No doubt the Valar will interfere again as well ;) Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's reply

Hi Ilya. The names of the characters are just common Sindarin names and they do not necessarily belong to any canon characters per se. There is only one canon character in this story for most of it, all the others in Denethor's group are original characters. As for the Valar, we'll see to what extent if any they interfere. You may be surprised at what they do and don't do. Anyway, I'm glad you're looking forward to the next chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Sunny · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Yay! The Maglor and the Harthadrim story! *does happy dance*

Author's reply

I figured you'd be pleased, Sunny. Hope you like how I did this story.

UTfrog · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Wow! I was not expecting a new story this morning. If you announced it, I missed the news. Of course I am delighted. Do not have much to say yet other than cries of joy. We have new characters and an adventure ahead. Thanks so much.

Author's reply

I did make mention of it while answering reviews for the final chapter of "Christmas at Edhellond" but it wasn't an all-out announcement. Anyway, I'm glad you are looking forward to this story and I hope you enjoy it.

Celeth · 4 February 2013 · Chapter 1: The Dream

Yehey! Another new story to look forward to. I wonder who they are going to rescue? I'm really looking forward to this one. I loved your other stories, specially Elf Interrupted (1 and 2) and Elf Academy (all three!). Anything with Glorfindel in it is sure to get me hooked. Good luck with this new story...and someday, I hope you will have time to write about Glorfindel again, from the time he met Elrond on the dock at Lindon, until the time Elrond left him to sail for Valinor...surely he wasn't twiddling his thumb in Imladris during the War of the Ring? Thanks again for all the beautiful stories...

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. We'll find out who soon enough who they have been sent to rescue. I'm glad you're looking foward to this story and have enjoyed my other stories. And writing about Glorfindel from the time he arrived in Middle-earth and meets Elron to the time Elrond left to go to Valinor is a very long time to cover but we may see something of what he was doing someday or at least hear about it when he tells others about his life. And no, I very much doubt he was twiddling his thumbs during the Ring War. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.
