Ah, Maglor. It's so interesting to ponder on his eventual fate -- he's a very tragic character. I have my own version I've been putting together off and on as well...
I had not thought of him coming across Aragorn and Co...but there definitely would have been the opportunity...
Thanks for writing!

I would hope that Arwen at least had the opportunity to have come to know her father's own foster-father. I, too, have my own idea as to what became of Maglor, and have had it written for years--but need to bring the rest of the epic up to that point. Some stories I've written the end for long before I get through the middle chapters. I wish I wrote as fluently now as I used to do.

This is still one of my favorite stories. It makes me cry and smile at once.

Good heavens--you wrote this comment a year ago, and I'm only now responding to it? Thank you so--I enjoyed imagining this experience for Maglor. And it is still a thing of wonder to know my writing can so move others. Thank you again, with all my heart.

Nice story. I always felt sorry for Feanor's sons.

I enjoyed reading this very much! Maglor's discussion with Russandol was well done. The acceptance that Maglor had gained from the family despite their knowledge of his past gave him the strength to take the gifts that Frodo had given him; not only the material ones but the spiritual and emotional ones as well. I think the Valar would have moved through Frodo and Russandol's family to show Maglor that he was worthy of forgiveness despite his mistakes. He regretted his actions, unlike Sauron and Sauruman. That scene at the end with Arwen, Sam, and Gimli was perfect! It was so nice to see how Arwen accepted him as her grandfather. Will Maglor return to Valinor now, or will he stay in Middle Earth for a bit longer? I look forward to seeing what might happen between Melian and Russandol! Aragorn and Sam might find themselves having some interesting conversations someday now that their daughters are growing up and young males are taking notice..... Has Elanor met a certain young hobbit yet? I suspect Elrond and Rosie's father would feel a certain amount of satisfaction when the young ladies start courting! Many thanks for posting this! :)

One day I may write the stories you suggest, Teresa, although there is so much I'm still working on elsewhere. I have written the incidents leading up to Maglor returning to Aman, but it's the final chapters to another work in progress, and I am finding that writing the chapters leading toward the ending chapters that have been long written is taking an inordinate amount of time to do!
I regret I didn't respond to your comments when they were made. It was a rather chaotic time when you made them. But I do appreciate them! Thank you so!

Yes, Arwen is as close to a grandchild as Maglor has; it's wonderful that he has finally gained the courage to come meet her. I liked the interaction between Maglor and the various Dunedain, too.
Author's reply
Until he can come home again to Aman, this is where his family has come to, at least. And I do think he needed to meet Arwen, at the very least.
In looking at Maglor seeing the last light of the Silmaril leaving Middle Earth with his remaining fosterling, I do think he'd have felt confused as his rational mind wrestled with the instincts associated with that blasted oath he took. That he might end up being found by a member of the nearest Dunedain village just seemed possible, so how might he have dealt with them in the future? And this might well prove to be one of his last chances to develop a relationship with Elrond's children, after all. Hopefully he would accept Arwen's assays at a relationship, no matter how tenuous.
Thanks so very much, Raksha!

This is a beautiful story. I'm glad Arwen was willing to accept Maglor.
Author's reply
Thank you so, Mysterious Jedi. I am certain that Elrond would leave his children with good thoughts about the one who stood as his own foster father when his parents disappeared into the West. And I'm certain Maglor needed to know that he was remembered well in some quarters, at least.

I would love to have you write a beautiful story like this for me for my birthday which is in the beginning of July.
I seem to have read other stories about Manglor which also show redemption for his sins. I think perhaps he deserves a second chance.
Author's reply
We will see what I can come up with by then, Tari. I'll be planning something for then.
I have more written for Maglor's story, but those chapters are in another tale that isn't up yet. Thank you so!

Like everyone else I want more!
I have always hoped that one day Maglor would forgive himself and find his way back to Aman, maybe this is the beginning of the end for him.

This was a most enjoyable story! I loved the Ranger family and seeing Maglor find some peace.
Author's reply
I don't know precisely why Maglor has been haunting my imagination this past month, but he has. And it took me just about a month to get this written, I found. Some stories are downright stubborn about not necessarily wishing to be finished, I've found!

I agree you can't stop at this chapter! There has to be more! I would very much like to see Gimili and Maglor converse, that would be interesting. As for the children of Elrond and the other elves, I think Maglor just might be surprised. After all Arwen called him daeradar.I love the fact that Russando/Timriol and his family accepted him,and they knew his history.

The story of Maglor is well known throughout Middle Earth, after all, and I suspect that considering how relatively few Elves appear to have been given to wandering about the place on their own a few individuals at least would be able to figure out who he was.
I may expand on this one day, although I couldn't guess when!
Thanks so!

Oh I would so like to think that such an encounter, and such a greeting, took place. Thank you.

I found I had to revisit Maglor in the early Fourth Age once more! And thank you!

I love the idea that Maglor might have reunited with Arwen and Aragorn's family and the other members of the fellowship, and that he might have made friends among the Dunedain.
I wish it had been longer, but its still a very lovely story and I appreciated the themes of reconciliation, forgiveness and acceptance woven into it. Hoping for more stories...
Author's reply
I've explored Maglor's possible view of the leaving of the ship on which sailed Elrond, Galadriel, Frodo, and Gandalf, and always wondered how he must have felt when he realized that Frodo bore the light of the Silmaril when he left Middle Earth. Tolkien himself was interested in the very themes you named, and so I wanted to look at some of the pressures that might have been brought to bear on Maglor to inspire him to seek out reconciliation himself.
There is a story that I've written that expands upon this one in a certain way, although it remains to post the relevant chapters involving Maglor. Much of what is in this story is expanded upon in that one. One day it WILL be finished--I so vow!

Loved this story - will there be a continuation?
It is obvious that Sam and Gimli have learned a lot about compassion from Frodo.
It is equally clear that Arwen as been influenced by her father with regards to her "grandfather" - I can't imagine other than that Elrond would have received his foster-father with open arms, if he had only dared to reveal himself. And I would guess that Elladan, Elrohir and Aragorn would do the same.
What other Elves might think I don't know. I imagine that there would be quitr a few who still would not welcome Maglor among them. Elves are immortal, after all, and so it would be difficult for their grudges to die, too. But two Ages have passed since the First Age, and that would be a long time, even for Elves, and hopefully enough time to let many would be willing to let bygones be bygones, even if they aren't quite ready to forgive all.
Author's reply
I have some expansion of details in this story already written, although I've not gotten far enough in what I've written of THAT story posted to get the chapters dealing with Maglor receiving a shirt crafted by Arwen or Frodo's shirt studs posted.
I am certain that many Elves with too long of memories still detested Maglor for his involvement with the kinslayings in Alquallonde and during the First Age of the Sun; but I doubt that by this time Cirdan would still wish to see Maglor condemned for what he did over two Ages of the Sun past. After all, he was considered to be among the Wise himself!
Perhaps I will find myself expanding upon this particular story and learning whether Maglor would agree to come to the Citadel in Annuminas to be formally presented before the King of Arnor and Gondor. But I cannot imagine Arwen being anything other than gracious and caring as she greeted him.
Thanks so for your comments--they do mean so very much!

What a beautiful story. I love the idea of Maglor watching the King return to the North. That Arwen was so gracious and loving is perfect. (And I'll add my voice to the others, that it'd be nice to see more... I'd love to see him meet Aragorn!)
Author's reply
Oh, I'm so glad you liked it. And perhaps I will one day expand upon it to see whether he'd agree to meet with Aragorn and possibly the twins and Celeborn, and under what circumstances. I have written how he ended up with a shirt made by Arwen and Frodo's shirt studs, but that is still not posted, I'm afraid. It WILL be posted one day, when the time is right!

A fascinating, very moving story. One wonders what will happen next, and whether 'Lord Morgil' will allow himself to live at peace.
Author's reply
I have written the description of how he ended up with a shirt made by Arwen and Frodo's shirt studs, and what that led to in the end for him, but that is not yet ready to be posted. It will be posted one day. Maglor came to have reason to know just how compassionate Frodo could be in that portion of the story that is yet to be posted--in a different longer tale, unfortunately.
Thanks so very much, Shirebound!
