Celeth · 27 October 2014 · Chapter 87: A Meeting in the Woods

I certainly agree with Daeron there; I wish Orome and Tulkas had discussed what the slight problem was. But I hope he is incorrect when he says it is not slight. Maybe there are too many Elves clamoring to return to Middle Earth and the Vingilot ticketing office is swamped? Legolas little speech about being a better Elf for having reached out to other races and befriending Dwarves, Hobbits and Men was indeed well-said. He beats even Finrod there, for Finrod never had the chance to meet any Hobbits (I Legolas can tell a tale or two about the hobbits haha). And his attitude of humility and willingness to learn from mortals and the Secondborn is indeed commendable. I hope the others will choose to learn from his example. Beleg's reaction to the appearance of the Valar when they slipped past his guard was amusing; of course, as the former Marchwarden of Doriath I doubt he thinks so. Thank you for another chapter, making Monday a good day after all haha.

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. I think Oromë and Tulkas were a little taken aback by Finrod's diatribe and they were sidetracked, or they allowed themselves to be sidetracked. At any rate, we may learn what the 'slight trouble' is later. Hopefully Legolas' attitude will rub off on some of the other Elves from Valinor and they'll be less haughty around Mortals. Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

sue cooke · 26 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Once again, I'm riveted. Have you thought about writing some side stories about the various Wiseman Elves and their adventures through history?

Author's reply

Hello Sue Cooke. I know a number of other readers have asked for such stories. They would involve a great deal of historical research, which takes time to do correctly, so it's not something I've planned on doing, but I try never to say never, which, as Manwë or Námo would say, is a long time even for the Valar. So, in the meantime, I include tidbits of their histories to give historical depth to this story and I'm afraid you'll have to be content with them for the nonce. At any rate, I'm so glad you are riveted to the story. Thanks for taking the time to let me know. I really appreciate it.

obsidianj · 25 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

The anger management classes were interesting. Each group had a different angle on Legolas' actions. I liked Sunny's history lesson. The elves should have known better. That only shows how much out of their depths they still feel.

Author's reply

You're right that the elves or at least some of them should have known better, but as you say, obsidianj, they are very much out of their depths and not thinking straight. Luckily, Vorondur, Max and Sunny were able to set them all straight. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

obsidianj · 25 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

First day at work. Huh! The officers will either line up to partner with Legolas or they will run for the hills. I have the feeling being partnered with him will mean no nice quiet day at work. I liked the encounter with the Three Amigos. Shows that they have a relationship with Legolas that the reader isn't aware of, but it gives depth to the story.

Author's reply

You may be right about the other officers, obsidianj. We'll have to see how it goes and I imagined that most patrols will be quiet. We'll only hear about the exciting ones. Legolas, of course, probably knew the Three Amigos in Aman as they ran in the same royal crowd so to speak, but you do see something of their relationship here that isn't apparent in earlier chapters. I'm glad you felt it gives depth to the story. I try my best to make the characters as 3-dimensional as possible and make them as real as possible. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 25 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Glad Sunny knows her history. Keeps some over inflated egos in check ;) I don't think the First Born means to disregard us like that. I think they still think of us mortals as people who needed them to help us wipe our noses. I also think the Valinor elves need to take a step back and truly look at what is going on around them. I think they will be surprised at how much we have changed...and yet at the same time. we still needs help in wiping our noses Glad they "ranger" gang is no longer upset with Prince Legolas.

Author's reply

Hi Laer. Sunny knows her job, that's for sure, and certainly did her homework. I'm sure the Firstborn don't mean to disregard us in that fashion, but there is a superiority thing going on with them, especially with those recently from Valinor. It's easy enough for them to fall into it because those who once lived in Middle-earth have only the memories of earlier Men to rely on and we modern-day humans aren't like our ancestors who were probably more in awe of the Elves than the people of Wiseman are. Eventually, though, I think they'll get a clue and treat us as we deserve. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Atya, This chapter was wonderful! I especially loved the discussion about how the Ranger-aspiring elves thought Prince Legolas would lead them, and didn't bother to ask, and Haldir going 'soft in the head' - imagine what Celeborn would say, especially how evil that one can get with him *remembers Dinner With Namo and Vaire and snickers* Oooh, and Gondolin Legolas getting smacked down "you don't think a Mortal is good enough to lead you? What about Tuor??" Hahahaha...*grin* Yeah, really, what ABOUT Tuor?? *smirks* Sunny doesn't pull her punches, does she? Yes, Legolas, do try to keep your head down and behave - but that's from your lips to the Valar's - and Atto Fiondil's - ears, my friends. I suspect things will just get more...*cough* *interesting* for our Thranduilion from here on out... Now, where IS Glorfi's ring? And I still wonder about the Great Elven Politics Mess-Up and where it will take Wiseman... Longing to see how the SCA plays out!! Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta, Atya! Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Celeborn would certainly take Haldir to task for making assumptions the way he has. Luckily, he's not there, so Haldir's safe. *grin* But it has to be embarrassing to be called out by a mere mortal. And Sunny was right to smack down Gondolin Legolas and the others for their wrong thinking. One really has to ask if Turgon just put Tuor in the House of the Wing because he had to put him somewhere or if Tuor legitimately earned the right to lead the House and its people. I think the latter, so it stands to reason that elves are as capable of following a mortal as mortals are following an elf. Glorfindel's ring will eventually turn up and we'll see what results from the Great Elven Politics Mess-Up later as well as the SCA, though we probably won't see much of that until EA4. Thanks for reviewing, Kaylee. Tye-melin.

Dreamflower · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

I liked this chapter. I'd hoped we'd see one of these sessions when they were first begun, but then thought that it wasn't going to happen with all the other exciting things going on. And now we get to see all these different sessions. I was not surprised at the reactions of the Elves who'd hoped Legolas would join them as Rangers: it had never occurred to any of them that they'd have to follow the structures and rules of the mortal organization, nor that it meant they'd have to ultimately answer to a mortal. Legolas had. It's one of the advantages he has over most of the Elves from his previous experiences. He deliberately placed himself under the authority of Aragorn, both in the Fellowship and later on in Gondor when Aragorn became King. He did not have to do so--he was, after all, a high-ranking noble of another realm altogether. He chose to do that because it was the wisest course of action, and he sublimated his own authority because of that. Few other Elves have ever done this, and none, I think to the extent that Legolas did. He learned to appreciate the strengths and natural abilities of many kinds of mortals. (In fact, it has just occurred to me, he's the only Elf in a position to have done that with every single race of the Free Folk: Men, Dwarves, Hobbits and Ents! Wow, thanks for giving me that bit of food for thought!) If he had not been attracted to police work, he might indeed have joined the Rangers. But he would not have taken authority over his fellow Elves who joined, but would have insisted instead that they place themselves under the rightful authority of Paul (who after all, is the one legally in charge and the one who knows how things are properly done). I think both Max and Daeron made some good points about how others are going to perceive things, and not only Legolas and his success with the police, but what any of the Elves will face as they begin to make their way in the modern Mortal world. There will be those who will accept them as people and friends. There will be those who are in awe of their abilities, and may put them on rather uncomfortable pedestals. There will be those who are jealous of their "uncanny" abilities and will resent them. And then there are those who hate them on principal just because they are "other". They've encountered the first and the last, but as they mingle more, they'll see more of the awe or the resentment. Anyway, great chapter!

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. I purposely did not show anything of these anger management classes except in mention because I didn't want to get too bogged down with them, but I felt it necessary to show one such session after Legolas joined the police force because I knew there were issues about that that needed to be addressed. Legolas is indeed unique in his relationship with the other races of the Free People, and when you stop and think about it, he must have also had dealings with the former enemies of Gondor after the Ring War, perhaps even acting as Aragorn's emissary on occasion. He may well have developed friendships with the odd Haradi or Khandian. At any rate, you're right that had he joined with the rangers he would have insisted that the other ranger-elves place themselves under the rightful authority of Paul and the other senior mortal rangers and he wouldn't have thought it strange or unnatural to do so. And something of this will be addressed in the next chapter. We will also see how Legolas takes to heart what both Daeron and Max said about being careful not to cause too much resentment among his fellow officers in the next chapter as well. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Good awareness for Legolas to keep in mind as he deals with many likely to find him intimidating and horning in on their territory, as they see it.

Author's reply

Good awareness for them all as they interact more with the Mortals. They must all be careful not to be stepping on toes. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it.

Eruherdiriel · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

This was a cool chapter. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's POVs. Mithlas is going to have to deal with questions from children. They are always curious. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, Eruherdiriel. I'm sure Mithlas will get a clue about dealing with children. There haven't been elflings for so long, he's forgotten just how curious and unself-conscious the little tykes are. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Sunny · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Lots of good advice all around here. I particularly liked the way Sunny put those wannabe rangers on the spot and got them thinking, and made them realize that their plan (with the inherent isolation from Mortals) would not have been a good idea. Hopefuly Legolas' next shifts will be pleasantly boring. All in all a nice, quiet chapter - which probably means a new disaster is right around the corner! *does a quick check of the Cliff House, tops up the stores of tea and coffee and fills the cookie tins with a fresh batch of cookies*

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Sunshine is one smart cookie and knew just what to say to show the would-be rangers the flaw in their plans. As for any new disaster, I guess you'll have to wait and see. *grin* Thanks for commenting. I greatly appreciate it.

6336 · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Very true, we do not always see ourselves as others see us. Liam/Legolas had better hope that his next few shifts are so boring they grow moss on them! And just what is wrong with swinging on lamp posts? Have a good weekend, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. We'll see how Legolas handles things with his fellow police officers in the next chapter. And there's nothing wrong with swinging on lamp posts, but if you're trying NOT to draw attention to yourself, swinging on lamp posts isn't the way to go. Have a good weekend yourself. Thanks for reviewing.

rikki · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Three groups of anger management classes and definitely three different approaches to the theme of the night. I thought that your interpretations of how each group perceived Liam joining the police force was spot on with the personalities in each group. It was interesting that Ron's group was mostly reborns and I would add, the management of the elves. Their perceptions of how Liam made a decision to look for employment without consulting the rest of the elves was enlightening. It led to the fact that Glorfindel needs to start delegating some of his responsibilities to other elves and that Finrod needs to step up in some of his duties. Sunny did her homework in the history of elves to really show that she is aware of interactions between elves and mortals. I really liked the way she was able to rebut the other elves by talking about Tuor and Gondolin that showed elves were able to work with mortals and work under mortal supervision. It certainly put in perspective that the elves were considering Liam their group leader and that they would have separated themselves from the mortals which was doomed to failure from the start. I think the elves considering becoming rangers will have to rethink why they are becoming rangers. Max's group was probably the most interesting in that it was attended by Liam and that it was in a conference room, which puts people in a more structured environment as they are sitting around a table versus sitting in a more relaxed setting. Max was certainly correct in that Liam may face some resistance from the mortal police officers for his outstanding catching of criminals twice now. But I think in the long run Liam will be able to defuse any situation and learn from it. Great chapter! Unless your background is in psychology you had to do some research into how to conduct group meetings to discuss difficult topics. It showed in how you had each group reacting to the theme of the meeting. Have a great weekend. Looking forward to Monday.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. While I took Psych 101 in college like everyone does, I can't claim to have a background in psychology, but I like to think of myself as an observer of the human condition, which is a good thing to be if one is a writer, even a writer of fan fiction. And while each group dealt with the the theme differently, they each brought to light some of the problems the Elves, especially those recently from Valinor, are facing or will face as they seek to integrate themselves into Wiseman's society. We'll see how Legolas takes Max's advice in the next chapter. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I very much appreciate it.

Celeth · 24 October 2014 · Chapter 86: Discussions on Coping with the Mortal World

Poor Glorfindel. So the loss of his ring has been bothering him more than the others realized. Maybe the Maiar can help him recover it? But as they keep reminding the Elves, they are not to interfere directly. On the other hand, maybe this is the Valar's way of "weaning" him off his dependence on that ring, and he learns to accept help from his fellow Elves instead. Good point by Sunny there hahaha. Lucky for her that she has studied the history of the Elves. I suppose she had to do that before beginning her counseling sessions. I forgot to mention in the last chapter, but its great how the Three Amigos have adapted so quickly and so well into Mortal culture. Its interesting to read about them interacting with their friends/classmates as equals, so far removed from the shock of their encounter with Alex and Derek when they first arrived. Thanks again for another chapter and happy weekend!

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. The issue with Glorfindel's ring will be addressed in a later chapter. Sunny's had three years to learn the true history of the Elves, so I'm not surprised that she was able to counter the Elves' arguments as she did. I'm sure they were impressed. *grin* The Three Amigos have certainly come a long way in a short time from when we first meet them. They obviously took Alex's lessons to heart and learned from them. I doubt their friends back in Aman would even recognize them now. LOL! Thanks for reviewing. Have a great weekend yourself!

Laer · 21 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

You go Liam! Glad he is finding his way, and I think he will enjoy this. Not to sure what the other mortal's will think of elves becoming officers. Especially when they are so quick. Here is hoping no one gets jealous of all the attention the "newbie" is getting :/ In the mean time I think the majority of the mortal officers will get along with him and will be thrilled he is on their side. :D

Author's reply

Hi Laer. I'm sure those who are friends of the Elves will welcome the idea of Elves becoming police officers. We'll see how Liam handles the possible fallout of his "success" with the other officers soon. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Larner · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

At least Lopez now has reason to realize that Legolas has some experience with patrols, even if the time was long, long ago in a kingdom far, far away. (Key the Fairy Godmother singing "Give me a Hero!")

Author's reply

LOL! I'm sure Lopez was very happy to have Liam with him on his patrol. If nothing else, it made things interesting. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I very much appreciate it.

Eruherdiriel · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

What was Officer Lopez going back for? What sort of repercussions is Legolas on the police force going to have? Do you know why I got a false update alert last week? It was very disappointing. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hi Eruherdiriel. Lopez went back for the police car which is parked a couple blocks away from where the prowler was apprehended. As for repercussions, you'll have to wait and see if there are any. Sorry about the false update alert. I was making corrections on a later chapter and accidently hit "publish" instead of "preview". I try to be careful but sometimes... Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

Atto, It's been another long period without any reviews from me. I'm sorry. :( Real Life has gotten in the way again and kicked me down hard. Root canal, VNS implant surgery (which interrupted the root canal procedure), amongst other things mean I haven't had my head on straight to think up a good review for Elf Academy, which nonetheless, I have been reading faithfully all along. It's just about the only thing keeping me sane. The Elf Politics Mess-Up is giving me chills, btw - I wonder how divided the people of Wiseman really are on the Elf thing! Still, obviously the Valar are on the Elves' side here, I'm looking forward to what the Mortals of Wiseman will decide about the Elves in their midst - oh! And that clothing store! Yes, yes, they should buy it and hire Mortals! I'm especially amazed by the triplets, especially how two of them are identical twins. I don't know all that much about triplets and I do wonder how the Three Amigos + Nell are going to take hearing about the new additions to the family growing by one! Oh yes, CSI: Wiseman seems just about right for our intrepid Officer Prince here! I agree with everyone else. I especially liked Legolas calling the Three Amigos "Orclings"! It reminded me of some reviewers calling their little ones "orclings", as well as in mine and Emma's fics, elfling Thranduil's older cousin referring to him as "little orcling". Oh, and I did love Officer Orlando (hah!) "Lando" Lopez! More of him, please. :D Please, don't think I've forgotten you or Elf Academy, Atya. It's just been a very rough RL ride, and I'm glad I'm finally collected enough to review. I've been cheering for the Elves all along. I wonder how things will go from here, especially with the prowler being one of the Elf-haters... Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta, Kaylee

Author's reply

Hi Kaylee. Sorry to hear that real life has been such a drag. I'm glad you're doing better and that you are still enjoying the story. I'm sure there are neighbors who are no longer speaking to one another over the Elf issue, but there you are. Politics of any flavor often brings the worse out of people who feel strongly about an issue or a candidate. We'll see Officer Lopez later on, though he's not a major character here. We may see more of him in Elf Academy 4. I suspect he and Legolas will form a friendship that goes beyond being coworkers, but we'll have to see. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, hinya. It's very much appreciated. Tye-melin.

Lindelea · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

“Remember to breathe every once in a while,” he reminded the younger ellon. I wonder if Finrod told himself that on his first day at the bookstore... OTOH, he (almost) always seems so calm and self-assured, it seems as if he takes (almost) everything in stride. Huh. Learned something today. So "Adam-12" was referring to the day shift, was it? I used to love that show when I was little, along with reruns of Dragnet. Is Officer Prince perhaps going to become an old-cop-show fan? And an Elf studying to become a lawyer... or several of them... could be a good idea at that. Perhaps inspiration will come in the form of old Perry Mason reruns -- those used to be on at noon both when I was a kid, and again years later when my children were little. They had a fascination for the show on sick days from school.

Author's reply

Hi Lindelea. Finrod always strikes me as very together in just about any situation he finds himself. I guess it comes from being a king where he has to always act as if he knows what he's doing even if he doesn't. I never knew the about "1-Adam" either until I was doing research on the ten-code and such in preparation for this chapter. I loved that show as well and even the original Dragnet with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan. But I promise I won't have Legolas saying, "Just the facts, ma'am". LOL! Daisy (Eirien) was a paralegal in Chicago before coming to Wiseman. Maybe she'll decide to go for her law degree. We'll have to see. And yes, Perry Mason was another favorite when I was growing up. Thanks for the review. It's much appreciated.

6336 · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

Oh, that was fun! You really will have to do a spin off series of Prince of Wiseman : C.S.I.(Yeah, yeah, I know, too many bunnys in the hutch already!) Loved the Orclings comment, my Orclings are apparently growing up fast, too fast if you ask me. Legolas might try braiding his hair back, it might stay tidier longer with all the running about he is doing, just tying it back only works if you are not bouncing around. How did the carving go, still got all your fingers I hope and no Tengwar! Ah well off to get my tea and call S.S., maturing is a pain and signing up for Medicare is one of them! Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. It seems that everyone wants to see Wiseman: CSI. LOL! I stole the orcling comment from you, in case you didn't know, but it seemed appropriate for Legolas to called the Three Amigos that. I suspect that Legolas will indeed be putting his hair in warrior braids soon enough, for he will see himself as a warrior battling against the criminal element. The carving went well. I'm seriously thinking of designing my own stencil with Tengwar for next year just for fun. Have to decide what to say, though. Well, I have a whole year. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. Hugs back.

Kevana · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 85: Prince Legolas’ First Day

First day on the job and he's already making a name for himself with an arrest! Of course I'd expect no less. Glad he managed it without getting hurt or hurting someone else - that poor lady, how scary for her! I kind of wonder if Legolas is in for a bit of an earful from somebody about not being a little more careful with traffic, at this rate. Can't argue his effectiveness, though! I cackled out loud at the "late for an appointment" excuse. That's so realistic! I still remember the story of the guy who said he ran from the cops just because he'd always wanted to try it. Nice job with the 10 codes, I listen to them all day long on the scanner. You did great portraying that aspect of it, right down to the thing about only a few of them being used frequently. 10-50, car wrecks, are what I end up hearing the most. It's always fun to listen to the chases both on foot and in a car. Oh, I wonder if Legolas will get to be in a car chase! Lopez seems like a really nice guy! I think he and Legolas will get along very well. CSI: Wiseman is coming together nicely. I'm so happy with these chapters following the prince's adventures! It's been so fantastic getting to see him step up and carry the action. These last few chapters have been moving things forward quickly, I feel like you're building up to something and can't wait to find out if I'm right, hehe. Superb job, wonderful writing as always! Hope you have a great fall week amid the New England autumn leaves! I've finally had to hang up my boogie board and stash my beach chair for the winter, but you've inspired me to check out some of the wooded national parks within driving distance. Take care! -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. I'm sure when Michaelson learns about it he'll read him chapter and verse. I'm glad I got the 10 codes right. I had several sources and they didn't always gel but most of the common codes were the same so I kept to them. I'd been wanting to showcase Legolas for some time now but it wasn't until Dreamflower showed me her character sketch based on "Christmas at Edhellond" that I found the right vehicle for Legolas to shine. I've enjoyed writing him as a police officer and he'll be seen in several upcoming chapters engaged in other aspects of police work. Thanks for leaving a comment. I very much appreciate it. Have a great week yourself.

Kevana · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 84: Council Meeting and a Conversation

I can't stress enough how much I love the conversation between Legolas and Finrod. Two of the Elves who knew other races better than any other Elves, ever, talking together. This is perfect. Great part about fanfiction, getting to see characters interact who never interacted in the canon. The reference to Finrod's work as a Fëanturnildo is a wonderful reminder that he might still be working to find his feet in a new (old) world, but he has a powerful purpose already no matter what changes come his way. I'm so happy with your characterization of Thranduil. While I don't personally think of him as "less wise" at all, I also don't think he's nearly as hard-hearted as a lot of people make him out to be. I always remember that he diverted his traveling party and went to help the people of Laketown after Smaug's death, even sending supplies ahead. While I'm sure he had his strategic reasons for it, I don't think a lot of Elven leaders might have done that. He comes across as very strong-willed and shrewd but not necessarily as scary or, I guess "vicious" as people might think (or at least that's just me, LOL). And the fact that he was the only one to protect a realm despite not having a Ring of Power is so, so true. I think he definitely passed that strength down to his son. I don't think somebody without a balance between strength and wisdom could have raised a son like Legolas or held a realm for so long. Bless you and your patience, Nimrodel, I would've smacked a couple of those healers. Why do people always think it's okay to put their hands on pregnant women's bellies without asking? Honestly. :P Ron and his notebook made me giggle. It would be fun doing the craziest stuff on occasion just to see what he'd do. Maybe carry another notebook around and take notes of him taking notes. How very meta. Really enjoyed the council meeting and seeing some old, familiar faces from previous stories! -Kevana

Author's reply

To be honest, until people began pointing it out to me, I really didn't make the connection between Finrod and Legolas and their particular background where mortals are concerned. I just knew that Finrod, being who and what he his, would naturally wish to speak with Legolas about working for mortals and what that might mean to him. And Thranduil is... Thranduil. He's probably a little rougher around the edges and not as sophisticated as Elrond, but he's powerful and he's savvy and he's nobody's fool. I've always felt Thranduil gets a bad rep for no reason I can think of unless it's because people don't like how he treated the Dwarves, but if he were truly evil he would've just had them executed on the spot. Anyway, anyone who has a son like Legolas can't be all that bad, can he? *grin* Ron is something else entirely. He's really having way too much fun these days. Thanks for reviewing, Kevana. I appreciate it very much.

Kevana · 20 October 2014 · Chapter 83: New News

Finally, that longer review I wanted to do! Ron sniffing Olórin's drink is fab. No drinking on the job, huh? A pair of rascals, the both of them, for all that they're celestial wavelengths of divine intent from before the dawn of Time. I have no doubt they did hang around for the show, although thankfully it wasn't as rough as it would've been if they hadn't shown up to break the tension. Good on ya, guys. (Does make me wonder what a Maia's favorite alcoholic beverage would be. I suspect there's a pun in there somewhere but my brain is too tired this morning to go looking for it.) That's a very good description of Legolas's personality indeed! Also reminds me I owe you an email about typing. Alright, add my name to the list of people who would watch CSI: Wiseman with Legolas as the star. What a fantastic development! It has me eagerly anticipating where you take it! Ah right, the election, no wonder Glorfindel's been stressed. Local elections in small towns, usually all you have to worry about is the tax rate, not the future of the world and your small group of people in particular. Running their own store is a great idea, Finrod, er, Quinn working at the bookstore has been such a wonderful way to connect. Maybe they can even start a new fashion trend. They can name it Helcaraxë Designs: clothing tough enough to get you through an Arctic winter. /ducks thrown objects And yes, the triplets! What a shocker! Eru waits till the end of days to pull a fast one on the Elves, one of many more to come, I'm sure. Haha. I can't help but wonder if Nerdanel would be jealous, sympathetic, or impressed. Maybe some of each. *grin* -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Yes, Fionwë and Olórin are a pair of rascals, aren't they? *grin* CSI: Wiseman... if only. LOL! Glorfindel has a lot to be stressed about and the election is just one thing. And Helcaraxë Designs... I rather like the sound of that. LOL! Eru is indeed pulling a fast one on the Elves with the triplets and, you're right that there are many more to come. What a first day! I enjoyed seeing Legolas' nervousness when he headed out, and the way he was put at ease by his first partner. I like Lando (funny that his first name should be "Orlando", isn't it? ;D)and his way of explaining things and putting Liam at ease. The encounter with the Three Amigos was fun, and they'll enjoy teasing Nell for missing out on it. I loved Lando's reactions to the ages of Elves. These two will have a lot to learn from each other; I hope his future partners are as congenial. But I'm sure Dave will put a lot of thought into who he pairs up his valuable new recruit with! I really liked them chasing down the prowler. Legolas' solicitousness for the woman in the car was cute (as was his calling her "my lady"--something she will enjoy telling her friends about once she's calmed down from her fright, I suspect). The crooks and bad guys of Wiseman had better watch out!

Hi Dreamflower. Even Elves can feel nervous, though they are probably pretty good at hiding it from Mortals if not from other Elves. Legolas calling the woman in the car "my lady" is just a fallback to his own culture, of course. He hasn't yet learned proper mortal addresses, such as "ma'am" or "miss", but he'll learn soon enough. And yes, I'm sure the word will be out soon among Wiseman's criminal element: watch out for the Elf cop! LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Poor Liam can't catch a break. So it is a small, quiet town and he and Lando have already managed to catch a prowler in their first half hour of work. I was chuckling throughout the chapter at some of what we would consider normal things that Liam finds confusing, like the graveyard shift and the ten-codes. And another chase scene. You are getting a workout here taking Liam through the alleys and over the rooftops of Wiseman. I could just see him sprinting down the street after the prowler. Thank goodness the lady was able to avoid hitting them with her car though it probably scared ten years off her life. I would suggest a good old-fashioned cop tv show if Liam wants to learn the ten-codes and other aspects of police work. Though I have a feeling that he will pick up the procedural aspects of police work quickly, including the paperwork that will have to be done now that the prowler has been arrested. I did find it interesting at the end that the prowler was complaining because Liam was an elf. Is he part of the group that attacked Glorfindel? It could be revealing if you continue why the perp is so concerned with elves. Another exciting chapter. Looking forward to seeing what the reaction is going to be at the police station as well as at Edhellond. Glorfindel may want to get a police scanner so he can keep up with what is going on with the Prince.

Hi rikki. Liam is still relatively new to Wiseman so some of the cultural aspects that we take for granted still escape him. The prowler isn't necessarily part of the group that attacked Glorfindel, just someone who has no use for Elves. Being a criminal, he has no use for anyone except his fence. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

A good beginning for Officer Prince! But that means that Officer Lopez did not get his hoped-for dull and quiet shift. But I guess it could have been worse, though the day is still young. ;-) So Legolas' first cop partner's Christian name is Orlando? I wonder just how you found that name! tee-hee. At least the two of them seem to be getting along just fine, and hopefully most of the rest of the cops will be the same.

Hi Sunny. Yes, a very good beginning and I thought "Orlando" apropos. *grin* I'm sure the other cops will get along with Legolas just fine or Michaelson will have something to say about it, you can be sure. Thanks for leaving a comment. It's appreciated.
