Sunny · 2 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Well, SashaHoneypalm, there is also the amusing little fact that the Hradani are the Bahzellverse's version of Orcs, though the Hradani's fits of homicidal rage might clue the reader in. It's not said so in the books, but was, I think, mentioned in discussions on Baen's Bar. I'm not sure what Finrod would think of that. And if Tomanak is like Námo, surely Bahzell is rather like Glorfindel with his cheek and (apparent) lack of respect for the Gods.

Author's reply

I never related the Hadrani with Orcs, although that is certainly what their original role was to have been, though, by the time we meet them, that is no longer who or what they are. And you're right, Sunny, that Bahzell is rather like Glorfindel (or vice versa) which is why I find him such a fun character and the way he speaks to Tomanak makes me laugh out loud at times.

Larner · 2 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Ah, but trust Namo to turn up at that point! Heh! Plans are progressing, and all are returning to their proper places once more. Be interesting to find out who the agents were who took Felicity, of course. Glad that Alex is finally awake, and that Finrod is feeling up to taking up duties once more.

Author's reply

Hi Larner. Well, we know Námo's not likely to stay away long. *grin* We'll see how things progress from here. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Lindelea · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Lovely end to the chapter. Namo is so feared, and yet to see him so tender, here... Words fail me. Glad to have Derek and Zach back. Glad Farrell is under observation. I wouldn't put it past whatever is pulling his strings to walk him out of the hospital, even if he wasn't conscious. Creepy thought. And Alex woke up, really woke up, and Finrod seems to be the perfect person to be there at the time. (Along with Namo. Does Alex see him? Or is this one of those gestures that is so important, yet goes unseen by everyone but the giver?)

Author's reply

Hi Lindelea. We see Námo in his most favorite role as Consoler. And yes, Alex does see him as we will see in the next chapter. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

SashaHoneypalm · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

I wonder what Finrod thinks of the Weber-verse versions of elves (and relative abundance of half-elves). And what his reaction will be when he gets to the scene in book 3 or 4 where Wencit explains the origin of said elves. My guess, it will include laughing and falling off his chair. ;)

Author's reply

I'm sure Finrod will laugh himself silly whenever he gets that far in the story, Sasha. And at least in the Weber-verse, monsters are monsters and not angsty, tormented souls looking to snog someone. LOL!

rikki · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

A wonderful catch up chapter. Everyone is home for now and Gareth is up to help start the SCA group with Jud and the others. I think his visit will be good for him and for the Valinorean elves. Hope he gets to meet the younger of the elves, even though they are lots older than Gareth. He needs to see he is fine just the way he is. Derek and Zach are back and ready to get back into the groove of things once they have seen Alex though I am not sure if they should have told the elves that they were going back to Derek's apartment or not. Yes, they are grown men, but I can hear your evil cackle and clapping of hands. I have a feeling that we are also gearing up for another roller coaster ride. Things are too quiet and too normal to last for long. Alex waking up and realizing that he has done something stupid is a great start. I loved Namo coming to Alex's room to welcome him back. And everyone may want to wring his neck, but I think they will all be happy that Alex is alive and recovering. Hope you had a great holiday.

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked the chapter, rikki. Gareth will eventually meet all the Elves living in Wiseman and we'll see what kind of reception he gets. And while there's a roller coaster ride in the future, it won't be immediate, so just sit back, take a deep breath and relax. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

jaccairn · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

By a strange coincidence the book I'm currently reading is 'The War God's Own' the next book after Oath of Swords. That book shop is a lot better stocked than some of the main ones in Britain! Very much enjoying this story but I thought it was coming towards an end. Your comments about Legolas suggest otherwise.

Author's reply

Hi jaccairn. The entire series is a lot of fun and I've read it more than once. I like the second book especially because of how Bahzell lessons Vaijon. That was a lot of fun. I'm glad you are enjoying the story, but believe me, there is more to come. Elf Academy 3 will continue well into the New Year. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it very much.

SashaHoneypalm · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Oh my, uh, Eru! I was just reading David Weber's War God series the other week, and I was at frequently thinking to myself that his Tomanak was a lot like your Namo! That is hilarious.

Author's reply

Hi Sasha. I have to admit that I sort of, kind of modeled Námo on Tomanak, just a little. *grin* There are obvious differences, of course, but the similarities are there, especially in attitude. Vairë is sort of like Tomanak's twin sister, Chesmirsa, in her down-to-earth manner. I'm glad to know another War God fan. Thanks for commenting. It's appreciated.

Eruherdiriel · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Gareth has some good points. It was interesting to compare his worldview to those of the Valinorean Elves. Glad Alex is awake. His first comment was hilarious. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

It is interesting to see how Gareth sees the world compared to the older Elves. Alex's first comment is indeed funny and very typical of him. Thanks for reviewing, Eruherdiriel. I appreciate it.

Laer · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

I a glad Finrod was there when he woke up. At least he will hold off on the lectures until after Alex has been awake for a while. ;) That will be one packed area very soon with all his well wishers being there and whoa be to thee if you try and stop Felicity from seeing him. I just know she will not be an easy one to stop. LOL I need to learn to savor these. I inhale them as soon as you publish them. Then go back and reread them to see what I might have missed. Then after I put my two cents worth in, I read everyone else's review to see what they saw that I may have missed. See you on Friday!

Author's reply

Hi Laer. I'm sure they'll all hold off on the lectures until a little later when he's more awake and alive. And they'll need to sell tickets for all the people who will want to see him at once. LOL! I can imagine it's hard to read slowly, but at least you can reread as often as you like to get everything out of the chapter you can. Reading other people's reviews is fun as well. Everyone sees something different or has a different response to what they've read that can be quite illuminating. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Celeth · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Ah, it was a long weekend waiting for Monday, and now its going to be an even longer week waiting for Friday. I wonder what Lord Namo will say to Alex, he sounds so glad to have him back. Now as to what Finrod and Glorfindel are going to say to him...and Derek too. Alex is so lucky to have such a caring gwador, not to mention an elf prince of Eldamar no less (so far Prince Legolas seems to be keeping a low profile...), an elven king, an elf lord, and all those other elves on his side. I just keep wondering what will happen when Farrell finally wakes up. Maybe somebody will listen to Daeron and Farrell will no longer wake up. Everybody would be happier - and safer - that way. But then, where would be the fun in that, as you like to say. There I go again, wishing I could speed dial a number just to hear someone at the other end say, "DelaFiore. I'm on my way." How exciting haha.

Author's reply

Hi Celeth. It just seems long but it's not really. We'll see what Námo has to say and everyone else who shows up. Alex is indeed lucky to have all these people care about him. And while Prince Legolas appears to be keeping a low profile at the moment, that will change soon enough, I promise. As for Farrell, we'll see what fate has in store for him. Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it.

UTfrog · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Love the ending! Glad Alex is back, as well as Derek, etc. please give us a small update on how Finda, etc are doing in school. We have had so much action that there was little space for us to catch up. Garath continues to be a great character. Thanks. Hope you have a great Labor Day.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. I'm glad you like the ending and we'll see something of Finda and his gwedyr in later chapters and learn how they're doing. That's the problem with so many interesting characters: it's hard to get all their stories in. And we'll be seeing a lot more of Gareth as well. He and his brother, Gwyn, are very interesting characters. Thanks for reviewing. Hope you have a great Labor Day as well.

Sunny · 1 September 2014 · Chapter 71: Awakenings

Nice, quiet chapter. So Garet has gotten to meet the Elves at Edhellond, and has given a hand in starting the SCA group. And hopefully the SCA group will be able to change the minds of some of the naysayers in Wiseman. Alex is conscious again, which is a nice thing to see. Tee. hee. :-D The War God series by David Weber! I'm seconding Fiondil's recommendation, and for the curious, you can download the book here for free! http://www.baenebooks.com/p-297-oath-of-swords.aspx

Author's reply

The War God series is loads of fun and I have all the volumes to date and hope Weber writes more about Bazhell. And it is hoped that the Wiseman SCA group will be instrumental in changing some people's minds about the Elves, but that remains to be seen. The group is in its infancy and they have a long way to go. Thanks for reviewing and for seconding my book recommendation, Sunny. I appreciate both.

Lindelea · 30 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Very odd. There's something that doesn't add up, between Farrell and his helpers, and then Agent Colson thrown into the middle. Glad to reach the hospital, that the (not) girlfriend is well, that Alex is responsive, that Dave is on the ball, that Glorfindel seems to be feeling better, and that Ron and Holly have something to look forward to. Probably missed something, but am distracted and in haste. Still, looking forward to the next installment. Got nice healthy Paleo style food (meat and veggies, nicely seasoned) all stir-fried up and ready for the buffet at the Cliff House.

Author's reply

Hi Lindelea. Odd indeed and probably something that will never be fully explained, but much of real life is not so why should it be here? There certainly is a lot going on in the chapter, that's for sure, and I think you covered all the bases. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Eruherdiriel · 30 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

So Farrell's cohorts weren't as crazy as he was. That's good to know. Is Terri Colson related to Phil Colson? ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Hi Eruherdiriel. Actually Phil's last name is spelled "Coulson", and no there's no relation. They're not even in the same universe. *grin*

demeter d · 30 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Is not anyone else wondering if it really is safe yet, if the ones who helped Farrel escape are still at large? And out to nab Alex? Might they not still try to grab others of his friends? Just what is THEIR agenda? Are they from the "DARK SIDE" of the Agency, or are they really some more sinister force. I do not think we are really "out of the woods" yet. Not in one of YOUR stories, we aren't!

Author's reply

I'm sure they're all wondering about the guys who were helping Farrell, but they would have no motive to grab Alex or anyone else at this point, Demeter. Farrell may well have told them that once they released Felicity, they should leave. So, who knows? Whether we're "out of the woods" where Farrell is concerned or not remains to be seen. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

rikki · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

A nice healing chapter. I had to laugh with the other readers at Special Agent Colson. Glorfindel only paid her back by using his looks and voice to do what she was trying to do in using her looks to get her way. Only on an elf it would be to the nth degree. She never had a chance! They really don't need any more agencies wandering around Wiseman and causing more havoc. Luckily, Farrell will stay in Wiseman and will be safer than if he were in Fairbanks where the Agency would have access to him. I know, paranoid thinking. It was another lighthearted moment when Dave is able to handle the elves. I am sure he was one the first ones to sign up for language classes when they were available by the elves and now he can use them to great advantage. They may grump, but the elves will give him the edited elf version of the rescue to Dave. He will be the one to dot the I's and cross the T's to make sure that all that is happening will come to a good end for the elves and the citizens of Wiseman. I like the way you have portrayed Felicity in this chapter. Comparing Felicity to Galadriel had me chuckling. By all appearances, she is handling the kidnapping, but there are signs like her nervousness and anger that point to a long session somewhere along the line of letting it all out. Maybe she will take Alex's solution and go out in the woods and scream. Lynda, I am up to cleaning the Cliff House with you. With Labor Day (American holiday) coming up, there is sure to be a last cook out to celebrate the last hurrah of summer even though it looks like the temperatures are not dropping out of the upper 90s here. Will bring lots of non-alcoholic as well as alcoholic beverages for everyone to enjoy as we wait for Monday. Have a good weekend Fiondil.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. You're not too paranoid because they all agree that they don't need more official notice than they already have. Agent Colson really didn't know that her mission was doomed before it ever got started with the Elves involved. And Dave is pretty cool. You're right that he was probably in the very first classes for both languages and he's going to make sure that all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed to bring this case to a close. I'm glad you like how Felicity is portrayed here. She has her own story though we probably won't learn any of it until later. I'm sure she'll be in a screaming therapy soon enough. It'd do her good. Thanks for reviewing. Enjoy the holiday weekend yourself.

Kevana · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

D'oh! Ahh yes, that makes it clear why Felicity didn't get hurt. And that Derek got notified. Good all around. Apparently I had a brain-wire short out this morning when I read this chapter the first time. Thanks!

Author's reply

No problem, Kevana. Early mornings aren't always a good time for reading and comprehending when your body is still waking up. *grin* I'm glad I was able to clarify things for you.

Larner · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Good enough, then. I still wish to hear the interrogation of Farrell.

Author's reply

We may never hear the interrogation of Farrell if he remains in a coma, Larner. We'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's appreciated.

FV_Whisper · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

So, for the last week, either: a. I was too busy to write a review b. the site didn't work for me c. my internet connection didn't work. Go figure lol I've always had a soft spot for David Michaelson and he gave me quite a laugh here. I loved his reactions to the Elves. I would not put it beyond him if he even practiced these phrases beforehand just in case he would need them. Either way, it worked out well for showing a. how he's not one to mess with and b. earning the Elves respect while doing so. Like Atar said, Felicity was fine and able to take care of herself (but then, why should we not believe Him?). It's interesting how Felicity thinks she's been through worse. It's interesting she's reminding Finrod of his sister, I think Felicity on her own is a force to be reckoned with too, and she'd better be if she's going to stick around with Alex. I also loved Galadriel being mentioned on a personal note: as part of an early birthday present, I got myself a Galadriel Barbie doll (I guess the little girl inside me never grew up) and spend the whole evening yesterday fixing up her hair. So I was pretty much in a Galadriel mood. Like most others, I loved the FBI agent with the Elves scene. First of all, I think Terri Colson makes a huge mistake in underestimating the Wiseman police, who are more than capable of dealing with Elves, let alone anything else. Unfortunately for her, the Twins are unimpressed with her antics, well she's not the least unimpressed with them! And if the Twins were not enough, there's also Glorfindel to deal with *snickers* Off you go now and off she goes. Still, it sounds like Terri Colson could be a potential source of further trouble. It;s good to hear Alex is at least responding to the voice of his non-girlfriend. And it seems Ron and Holly are in for some good time lol

Author's reply

Hi FV_Whisper. Life happens. Glad you're back online. Dave has grown to be one of my favorite (mortal) OCs in the Elf Academy universe and we'll be seeing more of him as the story continues. Felicity has her own story though at the moment she's reluctant to share, but maybe someday. The FBI and Elves scene is my favorite in this chapter. I had a lot of fun with it. Agent Colson never knew what hit her. LOL! Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Laer · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

ahhh such a beautiful fluffy ending :) Special Agent Colson kind of poked one bear too many didn't she. She didn't have a chance with the twins and when "Loren" did his magic she was toast! LOL!

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked the ending, Laer. And yes, Agent Colson just didn't know who she was dealing with and never will. Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it.

6336 · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Ah, yes, Glorfindel in 'I will be obeyed mode' is not easily denied. Besides he has routed more important people than Agent Colson in his time! Well it looks like Felicity will be doing O.K. with Ron and the Elves help, she does need to go out in the woods and scream though, letting it all out will be a big help! Dave Michaelson is not a country bumpkin, far from it. Why do big city law enforcement always seem to think small town or out the way places law enforcement are? In some ways they are better equipped to handle there local issues better than some big cities, they know just about everybody on a first name basis which is a big help. Hm, I am not sure about Ratty, if he does recover will he remember what happened? As for the other three they were in, a way, led astray by Ratty, though they did seem to enjoy beating up on Derek and Zach. So Voronder and Ercasse are going to get frisky are they, they had better make the most of it while they have the house to themselves! Looks like things will be calming down for a few chapters, we can only hope! Time to give the Cliff House a through cleaning, check supplies etc., any volunteers? Have a good weekend, Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. Felicity is a survivor. She'll be okay eventually. Dave is definitely not a country bumpkin. Whether Farrell recovers or not remains to be seen. Things should calm down a bit for a while but no promises. Have a good weekend yourself. Hugs back.

Sunny · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Hah! Alex' fate is clearly sealed - he just doesn't know it yet. And I found the comprison with Gladriel quite amusing - but then I suppose a strong-minded person is required to keep Mr Super-Secret Agent in line. And if Valar and Maiar start dropping in on her, as they do with Alex and the Elves, I suspect she won't take any nonsense from them either. ;-) I do wonder about her past, though, when she says that getting kidnapped (even if her kidnappers were both gentle and polite) was far from the worst that had happened to her. I see that Michaelson is taking no nonsense from the Elves. Good for him! Tee-hee. I guess that Terri Colson is going to find out the hard way tht vamping Elves just isn't going to work. Somehow I suspect she is going to be a slow learner, even allowing for the way Mortals' brains tend to melt and dribble out of their skulls when confronted woth Elven gorgeousness!

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Yeah, Alex is doomed. LOL! We may learn something about Felicity's past, though not in this story. You'll have to wait until the next installment. And Terri Colson never had a chance with either the Twins or Glorfindel. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Kevana · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

I'm starting to wonder if cutting off the head (Farrell) is simply going to create a hydra. It seems there are many people involved with this if someone dropped him off. It's almost a little strange that they just let Felicity go and treated her so nicely. They sure weren't that kind to Zack and Derek. I'm glad to see she's okay, though! I think she's a lot tougher than Glorfindel and Vorondur are giving her credit for. Chicka's got some history to her, huh? Maybe if she someday feels like sharing that with Alex, it could help both of them. Bwahaha, nice zinger, Dave. I bet he learned that phrase pretty quickly. I was wondering if/when another intelligence agency was going to start getting involved. Glorfindel, you sneaky supermodel with your golden hair! I hope Helyanwë gets dolled up sometime and puts his jaw on the floor so he gets a chance to know what that feels like, LOL! I'm sure the exiles will be glad to get back home, but somehow I think Derek's going to be in a state. Did anybody call him and give him a heads-up about Alex? Oh, dear. Great chapter, do hope somebody's thought to clap those handcuffs on Farrell...unconscious or not, it doesn't bear taking risks with that dude. Yikes. Have a spectacular weekend with much fun and hopefully an extra day off! If anybody needs me I'll be over here pouting about the end of summer coming waaaay too quickly. ;) -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. Ron told Holly that Derek was called. I guess you skimmed over that part of their conversation. *grin* The people who took Felicity were not the same who hurt Zach and Derek. They are still behind bars. These people helped Farrell to escape. Felicity was merely the lure. Had Alex stopped to check on her he would've found that she was indeed missing. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was keeping an eye on him even as Finlay was and as soon as Alex headed for Mt. Horace, they released Felicity since her "role" was done. Dave is nobody's fool. I'm sure the Elves' estimation of him went up a notch or three. We had summer? Where? *looks around a bit bemused* Have a great weekend yourself. Thanks for leaving a review. I greatly appreciate it.

Laer · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 69: Rescue Operation

Wow, to be able to see this would be something very special in deed for all that were present. Loved the idea of the snow fort (?) Glad that the brother wolf remembered them from before and helped out with the food also. Poor Finlay would have been needing a ride with Life Flight with out all the help. Great rescue sceen :)

Author's reply

Yes, it would've been quite the sight. I tried to make the rescue as dramatic as possible. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it, Laer. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

UTfrog · 29 August 2014 · Chapter 70: Aftermath

Hooray for Felicity. Her background may be more interesting than we thought. Or she is in denial and needs help. The FBI agent interaction with the elves was so funny. Well done! I am sure you have plenty planned for us, but at least I can climb down off the cliff for the weekend. As always a huge thank you.

Author's reply

Felicity has depths to her that we are only just beginning to glimpse. The scene with the FBI agent is my favorite in this chapter. I'm glad you found it amusing. I do indeed have plenty planned for you, so sit back and enjoy. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, UTfrog. I very much appreciate it.
