" “Vorondur for obvious reasons,” Finrod replied and Glorfindel nodded in agreement. “I think I might join you and perhaps Daeron.” " I'm a bit confused about who's speaking the second line. Is Finrod planning to go to Fairbanks? That should send Gareth into a state. :)

Author's reply

Yes, it's Finrod speaking. He's decided to go to Fairbanks with Glorfindel. I'm sure it will send, not only Gareth, but Gwyn into a state as well. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Sasha. I appreciate it.

Lindelea · 16 May 2014 · Chapter 40: Meanwhile, Back in Wiseman…

I like to read mysteries when I'm laid up, too. Mysteries and LOTR were my go-to comfort food when I was down with pneumonia and bronchitis for six months. Feeling that way now, as a matter of fact, with a touch of bronchitis at the moment, and looking for comfort. This chapter just hits the spot. Thanks.

Author's reply

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Lindelea. I hope you get better soon, but I'm glad you found the chapter comforting. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Dreamflower · 16 May 2014 · Chapter 40: Meanwhile, Back in Wiseman…

What a pleasant surprise to be able to read this today! (Still can't access the chapters people posted yesterday or the day before! Hopefully that will soon be fixed too!) So we are back in Wiseman, and the plans are afoot to go fetch the "kids". I love your imaginary mystery. I might just want to read that one day. But I love the way Finrod is beginning to come to terms with and learn from, the modern world. From church politics to sharks to Glorfindel's advice on a more up-to-date leadership style, he's beginning to find out how to put things in context. I'm eager to see them on the way to Fairbanks and to the encounter with the twins, Serinde, and the SCA!

Author's reply

I felt much trepidation when I posted this chapter, wondering if anyone would be able to access it. I was so happy when I got my first review. I hope whatever is going on with SoA, the problem will be fixed so people can access the other stories that have been recently published. I suppose I could've haunted the bookstore or library for a good murder-in-the-hospital-type mystery, but I decided it would be fun to just make up one of my own. I've certainly read enough different mysteries to know how to write the blurb for one. *LOL!* Anyway, I think Finrod is beginning to understand how the real world works these days and is willing to learn from those in the know, whether Elves or Mortals. And on to Fairbanks. We'll see who goes and how they fare on the trip in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing, Dreamflower. I very much appreciate it.

Lady Edlyn · 16 May 2014 · Chapter 40: Meanwhile, Back in Wiseman…

Good morning, meldonya, I really enjoyed this chapter, especially when Finrod went into the church and got to hear the organ and the singing of Panis Angelicus. That is one of my favorite pieces of music and like you I think Renee Fleming's rendition is superb. I like reading mystery novels when I'm recovering from illness or injury. Too bad the book Finrod brought to Glorfindel is fictional, because it sounds like something I'd like to read. Glorfindel made some good points. I could just see Finrod's reaction when he pointed out the differences in their leadership styles. At least Finrod is willing to try new methods and doesn't just write them off as being bad because he's never done it that way before. It was also good to see Alex, Derek and Zach again. The road trip to Fairbanks should be interesting. Take care, I'm looking forward to Monday's installment. Have a great weekend!

Author's reply

Hi Edlyn. Panis Angelicus is one of my favorites, too. I heard it sung by the mother of a young man who was being ordained as a deacon, eventually to become a priest, and it was just exquisite. Anyway, mysteries are good when one is not feeling well, if only because you can say to yourself as you're reading, "Well, at least I'm not dead, like this poor smuck". LOL! Anyway, Finrod has a lot to think about and hopefully he will take what Glorfindel has said to heart. The next chapter will describe the trip to Fairbanks. Thanks for reviewing and have a great weekend yourself.

rikki · 16 May 2014 · Chapter 40: Meanwhile, Back in Wiseman…

Finrod has certainly learned a lot of things in this chapter. Talking with Charles has shown him that one can't be in control all the time. And Charles is so matter of fact about death and living and facing the facts that led to his exile to Wiseman. I like Charles positive outlook on coming to Wiseman which must have really hurt at the time it happened. Charles and Makepiece are good mortal sounding boards for Finrod. Finrod and Glorfindel are just so good for each other right now. As gwandors they can freely talk to each other and not hide what they are thinking. I think a light bulb has gone on over Finrod's head as Glorfindel was talking about how he deals with the Wiseman elves. If Finrod starts taking some of that talk to heart the Wiseman elves should be more accepting, though it will probably stir up the Valarian elves. Ya can't win. I feel sorry right now for Helen as she won't come out of her room and the three amigos and Nell need to feel more secure and relaxed. Dropping out of college is not the thing to do right now. Playing Monopoly 24/7 definitely points out that the younger group has no idea on how to deal with what has been going on at Edhellond. Now to get everyone down to Fairbanks. Having Alex, Derick and Zach there may help the twins feel that they are not being overwhelmed by all the elves that will be showing up. I just hope Ron does not lose his cool. And I wonder if possibly that some of the Wiseman elves just might know of Gwyn's and Garath's parents. Its not an impossibility that somewhere and somewhen they have met up with more elves. Have a good weekend and look forward to Monday.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. Yes, Finrod has a lot to think about. Charles is a good person for him to talk to, as is Josiah. And his discussion with Glorfindel probably did more for him than anything else. I'm sure Finrod will start taking a page out of Glorfindel's book on how to manage others. I think, in time, even the Valinórean Elves will appreciate this style of governing when they see how effective it is. And yes, the next chapter will show them heading for Fairbanks. As to who will be going with Glorfindel and Vorondur, we'll see that as well. Thanks for leaving a comment. Have a great weekend yourself.

ainisarie · 15 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

I am really really looking forward to Vorondur's arrival. Glorfindel's too, but Papa Bear will no doubt have words to say. And of course, how things will turn out for the new brothers and the SCA. On a serious note, something seems to be wrong with the site. Anything posted since some time on the 13th will show a chapter list, but I get an error if I try to open one of them. (internal server error) I hope the site has not been hacked as LOTR FF was.

Author's reply

Hi ainisarie. Yeah, it should be interesting to see how Vorondur acts when he finally catches up with the Twins and Serindë, as well as how everyone will react to meeting the ap Hywel brothers and learn about the SCA. The problem you've encountered is sporadic and there's no rhyme or reason as to which stories you can access and which you cannot. It's been going on all week and there are plenty of complaints to Rorrah, so I have no doubt she's looking into the matter and will find a way to correct it, hopefully soon. I just hope my story can be accessed when I update tomorrow. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

harrowcat · 14 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Hi! I've been lurking again but reading just as avidly as ever. But I have had to de-lurk to ask, 'how can the twins let Serende leave on her own even if it is just down the corridor to fetch ice? Ron will be more than angry if they lose her before he gets there. May be I am just being paranoid! The piece of cliff that I have been sitting on has been getting rather lonely but I have had fun reading 'murder at the war' as recommended to pass the time.

Author's reply

Hi harrowcat. I think you're being a tad paranoid here, and Serindë is not completely defenseless. In Elf Academy 2 we see her helping Elrohir teach one of the unarmed defense classes. Also, they're aware of the fact that two Maiar are keeping watch, so they know Serindë is well protected. I'm glad you are reading and enjoying the story. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

FV_Whisper · 14 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Busy days = no time to write a proper review :( Aw well, here we go at last! “I can’t get over you calling the great Finrod Felagund ‘dude’. It sounds… irreverent or something,” Gwyn said, shaking his head. Ah, childhood hero's...Either they sincerely disappoint when you'll eventually meet them, or they'll take a turn for the better. Let's hope for the bothers this will be the case with Finrod! Poor Gareth on hearing Serindë is getting married. Must be hard when after so many years you come across an elleth that is not your mother and find out she's already been taken. Hopefully, someone else will show up in his life instead among the Elves at Wiseman or where ever else there will be more Elves. Nell was already mentioned in the reviews about this and I'm going to agree with that, she'll be just like her mother and take matters in het own hands! Making the Wiseman branch of the SCA a Mortal affair would make an interesting turn in recruiting, it might attract people who would normally stay away from elves, although I agree with Dreamflower here, the kind of people who would be interested in joining the SCA will be more likely the ones who will in general be more open minded about elves already. Oh-oh, Ron's coming to fetch his daughter back and he will not be happy. Maybe he should be taking some pointer from his own anger management classes before driving off to Fairbanks! Also, wanted to ask this for a longer time, I've been reading through the other EA parts, as well as some of your older works for the last few months, I think. Is it okay to comment on them as well? Some haven't gotten any replies in a longer time, but there are several places where I had some questions or comments about.

Author's reply

Hi FV_Whisper. To answer your question first, by all means feel free to go back to earlier stories and leave reviews. I still get reviews for older stories, either by people who discover my writing or by long-time readers who go back to earlier works and make additional comments. We'll see how the brothers feel about Finrod when the finally meet him and vice versa and perhaps they will both find an elleth to love eventually. As Elladan says, the floodgates have been opened and there should be more commerce between Wiseman and Valinor, so the chances are better now for finding mates. We'll see who else comes with Ron to Fairbanks. I'm sure Holly has already warned him to take a few deep breaths and a step or two back as he always likes to say and stay calm. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Larner · 13 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Well, at least they are coming up with more workable solutions to the need to teach people to protect the world when the time comes! Gwyn and Gareth do sound a bit starstruck when discussing Finrod, though! Heh!

Author's reply

Well, Gwyn and Gareth are young. *grin* And I would be a bit starstruck too if I knew Finrod (or Glorfindel) was for real. The SCA is a great way to train people without raising any eyebrows in certain circles. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it.

Ellie · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

The previous chapter and this one are so much fun! Lots of interesting info about the past and the possibilities of a new involvement in the SCA. Those will be some fun tournaments to see with the twins involved! LOL Loved the comment about food allergies. What a hoot! I think the brothers are in for some disappointment when they meet the heroes of legend for real. teehee

Author's reply

Hi Ellie. Well, if we ever get to the point where we are describing SCA tournaments with the Elves competing, I imagine they will be very fun. And we all feel disappointment when we meet our heroes and find out that they're just like the rest of us with good points and bad, but that doesn't stop them from being heroes when push comes to shove. Thanks for reviewing. I know how difficult it's been for you to do so lately and I appreciate you making the effort.

Sunny · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Gareth's disappointment that Serindë was not available for a romance was really quite cute - I bet he (and his brother) will be doing their best to charm the unattached ladies into a few dates. Wonder how that will turn out - and if the great Finrod Felagund is going to be too scary - and generally awe-inspiring, living legend that he is - for his niece to be a prospect for dating. Heh. I suspect Nell is very like her mom. In which case she may well take matters into her own hands, and ask Gwyn or Gareth out instead of the other way around. I see that the three runaways have been given firm orders to stay put, and that they are rather nervous about Hurricane Vorondur's arrival. Definitely looking forward to the fireworks!

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. We'll see how successful either brother is in securing dates from the available ellith in Wiseman soon enough. And Nell is pretty much a carbon copy of Galadriel in that respect. We'll just have to see how it goes once the brothers meet all the other Elves. And the fireworks won't be long in coming. LOL! Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Lyana · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Awww - poor Gareth! Well, at least now he has hope that available elleth exist nearby. :-) Hmm... wonder if Kyle and his tranq are coming along; daughters will be forgiven, but Papa Bear Ron doesn't sound like it will be a happy reunion with Dan and Roy, no matter that they are all ages-old adults!

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. Well, I'm sure both Gwyn and Gareth will be happy to learn that there are possibly available ellith just up the street from them. *grin* We'll see who ends up joining the posse to Fairbanks in the next chapter and then we'll see how the reunion goes after that. Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

rikki · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Lots of good information on SCA. I have never been involved in anything like this and the intricate levels of cantons and baronys are very interesting. Having the mortals do the establishment of the Wiseman SCA group will also help to make it plain that the mortals are a big part of the planning process. The Valarian elves should really get into the fighting with swords part. In a way the twins and Sarah should not have run away, but I am hoping that the space and time have given everyone time to slow down and let a lot of anger cool before they face each other again. Communications folks! That has been 99% of the problem from the beginning here. Hopefully everyone will listen to the other when they do meet. If Glorfindel can make the trip, it will go far in easing the tensions that are going to arise when Sarah's father makes it to Fairbanks.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. I tried to give as much information as newbies would want without bogging down the chapter, as I know that not all my readers would be familiar with the organization and how it's structured. And while the Twins and Sarah shouldn't have run away, obviously they were meant to find Gwyn and Gareth, or more precisely, the Valar took the opportunity to introduce the two groups to one another when the three from Wiseman left and went to Fairbanks. I think eventually the two groups would have met, but not necessarily in this manner. Once the Twins made the decision to leave Wiseman, contingency plans were set in motion and this is the result. We'll see how things go when the posse shows up. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

Kevana · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

This chapter is just delightful. We've had Elves and Elf Academy, Elves and spies, now Elves and SCA - I never can guess where you're going to take this next and it's wonderful. The more I think about it, the sillier it seems that some of the Elves would look down on the Twins for their bloodline - if anything, they have quite the impressive pedigree. You addressed that earlier in the story but the mention of it here just brought it back. That said, Mortals certainly have a lot of hangups about this stuff too so it's a realistic take on it, I think. Oh goodness, yes, the Twins and Sarah really will be out of the picture for a while, won't they! I hadn't thought about that. It's a very, very good idea to have the Mortals be the ones to step in and form/lead the SCA in Wiseman. I think they hit on a winning tactic there, not only as a way to get the group going but as a way to maybe attract some of the Elf-fearing folks and introduce them slowly. All the SCA history/info is really fun, especially for people like me who've never been into it. I appreciate the backstory you give here. Oh dear, overprotective Daddy Elf on the loose! :P Great chapter, these last few have been especially good, and now I'm excited to see the upcoming reunion and, presumably, resulting fireworks show. Ha! Thanks for the update and have a fabulous week! -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. I like to keep my readers guessing. *grin* I'm glad you found the chapter delightful. There's a lot going on here even if it's all just "talk", but certainly the Twins and Sarah see the possibilities of the SCA being the perfect vehicle for recruitment and training of Mortals. I am glad you found the backstory interesting. I tried not to bog down with too many details yet give enough information about the SCA and its organizational structure so people who are unfamiliar with it would understand. I'm glad it worked (at least for you). And the Reunion won't be long in coming, so stay tune. *grin* Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Kevana · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 38: Meeting the Locals

This is entirely too much fun! Gwyn and Gareth's reaction to all the famous Elves is just too adorable. It's okay, Gareth, I'd be right beside you fangirling at Finrod. (And there is nothing wrong with working in a bookstore, Gareth - Einstein worked as a patent clerk, Lincoln was a lawyer, Jesus was a carpenter, etc. :P ) Did I mention that Iron Fist is a truly epic name? I like all of the newly-introduced Mortals, too! Very interesting bunch and clearly good people to have around. I'm still confused on the "are we fighting with swords or not" thing, myself! What, or who, exactly are they going to be fighting? All the orcs are long gone, and you'd think you wouldn't be using swords against humans with guns..*bizarre mental image of Morgoth out in space, breeding alien monsters to attack Earth* Ah well, even if we never find out, just the idea of Elves (and Mortals) fighting aliens with swords and bows and arrows is enough to keep me happy, LOL. The memory alteration thing is weiiiiiird. I keep thinking back to Men in Black with Will Smith asking Tommy Lee Jones if he erased his memory, "Did you ever flashy-thing me? ... I ain't playing with you, K, did you ever flashy-thing me?" Heehee, Elves have built-in Neuralyzers. At least they're pretty gentle about using it, even on people causing trouble for them. I imagine they could really do some damage if they weren't scrupulous about it, considering even the Valar have had difficulty in that realm before. And speaking of weird mind-stuff, the interview process is too funny. But it's also interesting that the Valar weren't just going "okay, take this person and that person and this person," but actually setting up a way (if I understand correctly) for both the candidates and the selection committee (ha) to work things out for themselves. Wonderful chapter with lots of info, and they know Glorfindel's awake! I bet that will make the Twins and Sarah feel a lot better. Although they should probably start expecting an incoming pretty soon. And on to the next chapter - there are some benefits to getting busy and having to catch up, more chapters at once. I am greedy. ;) -Kevana

Author's reply

Hi Kevana. I think everyone is confused by the "are we fighting with swords or not", including the Elves. If you recall, Amroth has a vision, which he no longer remembers, of Alex and Derek fighting side-by-side in what he realizes is the Dagor Dagorath, using strange weapons that Amroth does not recognize. I have left it all purposely vague, mainly because I have no clue either and this leaves everything open both for the reader and for me. The dream interview is a way for Gwyn to know for sure if someone he's thinking of joining the Iron Fist (and it is an epic name) is suitable. Having the interview in a dream protects Gwyn and Gareth because if the person is not suitable than there's no point in inviting him and perhaps endangering themselves. Yet, no one's free will is abrogated in this process, as we see when Gwyn ignored the results of one such dream interview. Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter.

Dreamflower · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Ah, the slow progress from canton to shire to Barony! I'd love to see an SCA group in Wiseman--be fun to see who signs up, though I'm not sure it will do much to convince the naysayers. In my experience, the sorts of folks who are already naysaying the Elves also tend to be negative about the SCA. ("My mind is made up; stop trying to distract me with the facts.") I used to hear that sort of person describe the SCA as a cult. Clearly the twins and Serinde know their elders all too well, and have already figured out most of what was happening back in Wiseman. I do get a big kick out of Gwyn and Gareth, and their shock at hearing Finrod described as "dude", and their disappointment at learning Serinde and Elrohir are engaged. But there is at least one other available elleth in Wiseman...

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. You're probably right about the naysayers, and I know what you mean about people who are so narrow-minded they label such organizations as a cult without actually understanding what that means. But not all naysayers are painted with the same brush, so you never know. Some of them who are teetering on the edge may end up joining the other side. Gwyn and Gareth are a lot of fun, being so much younger than all the other Elves. We'll be seeing more of them as the story progresses and we'll eventually meet their parents who, I think, are a hoot. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Soledad · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

Oh, my! Vorondur as the Oncoming Storm descending upon Fairbanks! Will any building be still standing when he's done? *g* I'm really curious to see where the SCA plotline is going - if Alex and Derek will find it worth their time and join up?

Author's reply

Well, Vorondur is no Glorfindel but he is not a happy daddy. LOL! We'll just have to see how it goes. And we'll be seeing more of the SCA in this story (and possibly the next) and we'll have to see if Alex and Derek decide to join. Thanks for reviewing, Soledad. I really appreciate it.

UTfrog · 12 May 2014 · Chapter 39: Joining the SCA

From what we know of Elves, the Second Generation seems interested in ellyth at an earlier age. Poor Garath. Please have someone from the Wiseman/Valinor group for him. That concerns me somewhat given the snobbish attitudes portrayed, but we do not know everyone in that household. Poor ellon took one good luck at a pretty girl and fell! SCA planning should be a good group activity that does have potential for bringing humans and more elves together. I will have limited internet access for your next 3 postings. Never think that I will not find a way to read the chapters, but reviews are unlikely. Thanks for a good chapter.

Author's reply

Hi UTfrog. Well, both Gwyn and Gareth are around a thousand years old, so they're not *that* young even by Elvish standards, but considering the fact that they've never met *any* ellith, naturally they are curious about the ones living in WIseman, as any red-blooded ellon would be. And you're right that the SCA is a good vehicle for bringing Elves and Mortals together. We'll see if it actually works. As for reviews, that's not a problem. When you have better internet access, feel free to go back and leave reviews for the chapters you've missed if you are so inclined. Thanks for reviewing this chapter. I appreciate it.

Lyana · 10 May 2014 · Chapter 38: Meeting the Locals

I can't imagine what a shock this visit must be to the two brothers. Talk about legends coming to life! And it's really going to be interesting to add to the mix Elves who have known nothing more than the last 1,000 years of human history. Putting it into the perspective that the youngest of the Valinor elves are about the same age as their parents... wow. I'm glad Elladan was able to help them start to put some of the pieces of the larger puzzle together before insecurities ran too rampant! The Mortals seem to be handling all this quite well! Should we be worried??

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. It must have been quite the shock for them, more so than for the Mortals with them because for the Mortals what's more Elves? But for the brothers, thinking they were alone and there were no other Elves in Middle-earth except their parents and then to learn there are others... that would really be shocking. Being older (and supposedly wiser), Elladan was able to see the purpose behind what the brothers were doing and what the connection between them and the Wiseman Elves should be and assure Gwyn and Gareth that what they were doing in Fairbanks was as important as what was happening in Wiseman. (Hope this response makes sense; I'm still waking up. *grin*) Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

obsidianj · 10 May 2014 · Chapter 37: Gwaith-en-Angbor

So, new elves and younger elves. I hope we see their parents soon. They sound interesting. Had to laugh at the Batman/Starwars reference. That was too funny. Seems Namo is busy planting small cells to get the preparations for the Dagor Dagorlad started. I wonder how many more there are.

Author's reply

We will meet Gwyn and Gareth's parents eventually, though not immediately, and they are very interesting (at least I think so *grin*). Námo has been one busy little Vala, that's for sure. Being considered one of the Ainur's greatest strategists, along with Oromë, setting up such 'cells' would be in his purview. As to how many more there are, I have no idea and Námo hasn't said. Maybe we'll find out someday. Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

obsidianj · 10 May 2014 · Chapter 36: What the Twins and Serindë Get Up To

Who is this Gwyn? I was surprised that this was a man, since the only Gwyn I know is a woman. Oh, well, I can make that adjustment. Is he another elf or a Maia? Obviously, the twins need some help in calming down. This group seems to be too conveniently meeting outdoors and the strange way they got there left me wondering. I guess I just have to read on since the next chapters are already posted.

Author's reply

Well, by the time you read this response, you'll know who Gwyn is. *grin* In Welsh, Gwyn is considered a man's name. The feminine equivalent is Gwen; both names means 'white'. A lot of names in the Celtic languages, particularly Irish and Welsh, that in those languages are considered masculine, have become gender-neutral as parents have given such names to girl children in recent years (especially here in America), so I can understand your confusion. Thanks for leaving a review, obsidianj. It's appreciated.

Larner · 9 May 2014 · Chapter 38: Meeting the Locals

So, Irmo is involved, too? Sounds good to me that he has his own way of contributing to the building of the Army of Light. I wonder if Lorenzo is now in Wiseman?

Author's reply

I'm sure all the Valar are involved to one extent or another, Larner. As for Lorenzo being in Wiseman, I have no idea, but I rather doubt it, or perhaps I should say, I hope he isn't. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Sunny · 9 May 2014 · Chapter 38: Meeting the Locals

Rather amusing - The Twins, Glorfindel and Daeron were in the thick of things, spying for the pope in the 14 century, and undoubtedly up to their eyebrows in plots and counterplots, while Serindë's family left Italy _because_ of all the political goings-on. Gwyn's reaction to earing that Finrod is in Wiseman was quite amusing. But I do wonder what Finrod's reaction would be to hearing that he is a fairytale hero to Gwyn, but also to the Twins. And it would be even more amusing to seeing Findalaurë's reaction. Speaking of reactions, it would also be interesting to seeing Findor's reaction to having his niece meeting two elves who are locals and definitely not relatives! And the Three Amigos will undoubtedly find Gwyn and Gareth great company. Heh - Glorfiddle! *snickers* Here's a vid of a song called Fairytale - and there's a fiddler in it, too! :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DaRhiCKGMk

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. It's not only amusing, but rather ironic, I would think. I think Finrod would be appalled and embarrassed upon hearing the fairytale stories about him that Gwyn told Gareth or even those that Glorfindel told the Twins when they were elflings. And it would be amusing to see what Findalaurë's reaction would be. Gwyn and Gareth will eventually meet Finrod as well as Nell and the Three Amigos, so you'll just have to wait to see how that all goes down. Interesting vid. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the review. I appreciate it.

FV_Whisper · 9 May 2014 · Chapter 38: Meeting the Locals

Ah, yes, meeting the locals. Always a good thing. The locals seem to be an interesting bunch, and really serious about the Gwaith-en-Angbor, it seems some allies can be found there. Gwyn and Gareth get more interesting too. Any idea's on what happened with them in the 14th century that they needed to survive? Not the most friendly century there was around, but like mentioned in the story too, at least the Elves did not have to care about the Black Death. (Sound like a name Námo could appreciate, now to think of it) So Serindë and her family lived in Amsterdam for some time? (I'm Dutch myself ;) ) Again, I envy the Elves for knowing all the languages like they do! Ah, boyhood hero's. Gareth sure has a thing about Finrod and hopefully he will meet his hero some time soon. I hope it's not that bad for him the real Finrod will be different from the ones in stories I wonder what Finrod will think about those tales, and even more about the tales Glorfindel told the Twins. At least Gwyn didn't know any better when making up those tales. - “Dude?!” Gwyn exclaimed. “You call the King of Nargothrond dude?” - *snickers* I feel sorry for Gwyn, he worked so hard getting into the position he is now, and now there's another group of Elves who in his eyes are taking things over. It's a bit the same as with the Wiseman elves who've been feeling somewhat overruled by the gang from Valinor. I hope what the Twins told him will help him to see thing in a better light. The dream interviews are quite interesting, sounds like something Námo could come up with indeed. Gareth telling the others about this is worth a laugh, he's being so much the younger brother here. "Gwyn finally had to… um… alter his memories of us and a short time later he moved away." This is slightly disturbing. I know the Valar could be able to do such a thing, but do Elves have that power too? Also, seeing by the timeline Glorfindel has been awake for some time now and hasn't caught up with the Twins and Sarah so far does mean at least someone was able to talk a bit of sense into him? *snickers* What is interesting in this light is how the Twins first even consider moving out of Wiseman. Now after the news Glorfindel is awake, they realize they'll have to return to Wiseman in the end. I guess Glorfindel really is the only one who can hold on to the Twins! Oh, and I raise my hand for some cherry crisp with vanilla ice cream too!

Hi FV_Whisper. I'm glad you are finding Gwyn and Gareth to be interesting. I do know something of what was going on with them in the 14th century but I reserve the right not to talk about it here. I'm sure we'll learn something of their history in time. Obviously, it was not a safe century (what century truly is when you stop and think about it?) and while they might not have been able to contract the Plague, that does not preclude other ways that they could have been in danger of dying. As for altering the guy's memory, even vanilla mortals can do that with the right kind of drugs and hypnosis. We call it brainwashing. I think the Elves have a more delicate touch that would not do permanent damage but simply ease the memory so after a time the guy just thinks it was a dream or something. We will be getting back to Wiseman and checking in with Glorfindel soon. We have one more chapter dealing with Fairbanks before we can head north again. Thanks for reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

G&G have something to learn about diplomacy, don't they? You'd think that after all this time in the SCA they'd have figured out that dismissing it as children playing dress-up would hurt people's feelings. Maybe their surprise at seeing other elves has loosened their tongues a bit, made them forget their manners? One question I've had for a while- I thought the Valar were supposed to stay in Valinor. (Mostly in Valinor mainland at that, judging from the reactions on Tol Eressea in EI). Yet they're popping up all over the place in EA. Are they breaking their own rules because of the whole "end of the world as we know it" situation? I have to say, this is the fastest-updating fic I have had the pleasure of following. I came here from the MEFA site when EA3 was at Chapter 15, and I've had the tab open ever since. Such a nice break from wonderful stories that end in the middle and haven't been worked on since 2008. (PS, is it just me, or is there only one CAPTCHA for Stories of Arda? Every time I've posted I've gotten "VALAR" as my word).

Hi Sasha. I think diplomacy went out the window as surprise and shock came in by the door. And Gwyn is feeling a bit bitter thinking that all his efforts have been for naught. Hopefully, the Twins will set him straight on that score. The Valar are the Guardians of Arda, all of Arda, which actually encompasses our entire solar system, not just Earth, and indeed they are the Guardians of Eä, of the universe as a whole. They may reside permanently in Valinor (everyone needs a place to hang their hat) but they are not bound there. They are, after all, creatures of pure spirit who simply clothe themselves in a physical form so as to be able to interact more easily with incarnates, whether Elves or Mortals. And the secret of updating frequently is that by the time you were reading the beginning of EA3, I had been working on this story for over half a year and was many chapters in advance to where you were in the story. I am, in fact, presently winding up this story, the end of which you won't read until January. That should give you an idea just how long this story is given that I post two chapters a week. Unlike other writers, my rule of thumb is not to begin posting a multi-chapter story until I have at least 20 chapters written, and usually, I have many more than that, so that gives me a comfortable margin to work with. Since I write everyday, I average two new chapters a week. So, once I finish writing this story (hopefully sometime this month), I will go on to write the next story. By the time EA3 is posted in its entirety, I will have been working on the next story for 7 or 8 months. Even as I am posting the first chapter of that story, I may well be finishing it and going on to some other project. And no, it's not you. The CAPTCHA is always the same. Maybe you should consider just signing up so you can automatically log in and not have to deal with the CAPTCHA all the time. At any rate, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
